Realistic or Modern Brimwater - A Supernatural Mystery/Horror Story

Dealer's Choice: Embrace the Urge New
  • Embrace the urge. Drink it.

She snatched it quickly, tearing off the small nozzle on the end and gulping down the red contents of the bag.

The sensation was like nothing else. It was as if her tongue had tasted the purest form of heaven. It was practically orgasmic... probably because she had forced herself not to feed on blood till now. The bag was emptied quite quickly, and soon she crumpled the bag up in her fist.

The woman that had brought the bag to her smirked. "Fastest I've ever seen someone down a blood pack. Bravo." she said. Selena cut her a look in response.

Then, the man spoke again. "Do you feel better now?" he asked.

Selena paused for a moment, before nodding slowly. "Y-Yeah...pains are gone." she said, looking to the well-dressed man.

He nodded. "Good. Now, to introduce myself." he said, smiling as he placed a hand to his chest. "Sir David Tanner. Co-owner of the Obsidian Underground... where we currently are. You recently drank some of my blood."

Selena stared at the man for a moment. "...You're a vampire?"

David nodded. "Correct. And now you are. Either intentionally or accidentally." he replied. Selena's eyes slowly drifted away from David, moving towards the woman whom brought her the blood pack. The woman was grinning. David motioned to her next. "This is Nikita. A long time friend, whom I sired centuries ago. She's... well, your clan sister now." he explained.

Nikita's grin grew wider. "Merveilleux! I've always wanted a sister!" she said, looking between David and Selena.

Oh god, she's fucking French. Selena shook her head rapidly. "What the hell do you mean 'clan sister'?" she said, trying to wrap her head around... well, literally everything that was happening.

"You and Nikita both have my blood running through your veins now. You're part of my clan, just as she is." David explained, "...There aren't many like you. I'm... selective about who I sire."

"What he means is he has to have a legitimately good reason to turn you." said Nikita, taking a seat next to Selena on the couch. Selena glanced to her briefly, scooting away from her a few inches, before looking back to David.

David then spoke again. "Now, there are a few questions on both my mind as well as Nikita's... From who, or rather how, did you acquire my blood? How did you die? Does anyone else know that you turned?"

Selena hesitated for a moment, her eyes darting to a few places on the floor, before she answered. "I... I snatched a vial of your blood from the autopsy lab at the police station. I was looking into who killed Charles Cooley... and found it along with a few other vials of blood."

David interrupted quickly, before Selena could move on to answering the other questions. "So you found a vial of my blood that was in the possession of Agent Dark." he asked, a look of dread soon washing over his face as he glanced to Nikita next to her.

Selena nodded. "Yeah. I guess they were checking Cooley's body for traces of your blood or something, I don't know." she said before continuing, "I also took some files, intending to show them to the Sheriff. To prove that Dark and the others aren't who they say they are. On the way back to my apartment, Cooley's murderer tracked me down and shot me. I drank your blood to see if it would heal me, because I saw in one of the files that vampire blood heals people if they're wounded. She eventually hunted me down and... I guess she shot me to death."

"Vampire blood does heal mortals." responded Nikita, "The problem is if you die after drinking it, you're resurrected a short time later as a vampire. It has to work its way out of your system in order for you not to turn."

Selena's head snapped around, eyes locking onto Nikita's. "...S-So that's how... people get turned...?" she muttered softly.

"Oui, ma chère." responded Nikita, "...A bite does nothing. Its the exchange of blood, followed by death, that does the deed. The same goes for lycans, except lycans don't have to kill you to turn you."

"Lycans?" asked Selena, looking back to David.

"Lycanthropes. Wolfmen. Werewolves. There's several terms for them." responded David, "...There's a lot that we'll have to fill you in on, since you're part of our world now."

Nikita got Selena's attention once more, as she spoke again. "...There was that other question you didn't answer. Does anyone know you've turned?"

Selena shook her head. "No one. We were alone when she killed me." she responded.

"...Good. At least there's that." stated David, sighing afterwards. "...I'll have a talk with Agent Dark, and sort things out. You didn't know what you were doing, and I'd rather spare you another needless death."

"Death? What, is Dark going to kill me?"

Nikita chimed in. "Normally, she and the other agents would either kill you or capture and contain you. Standard protocol for rogue vampires and other unauthorized supernatural entities. David, however, is going to take you in as one of his own to prevent that. We'll teach you what you need to know, so you don't damage the Veil."

She sat back in the couch, getting comfortable as she continued. "There's a lot that goes into keeping supernaturals out of the public eye. Both from our side of things, and from the world governments' side of things. Just enough is known to make us seem like we're just something people made up a long time ago. Myths and legends instead of the real deal."

As Nikita spoke to her, Selena watched as David stood from his seat. He drew a phone from his pocket, tapping a few buttons on the keypad before lifting it to his ear as he walked a few feet away from the pair. Eventually, however, Selena felt Nikita tug on her arm. She glanced back to the woman and noticed her leaning towards her with a softer look in her eyes.

"...You're going to be alright. We'll make sure you're safe and taken care of. I promise." she said softly, flashing her a smile. "I have a few more questions for you, but it's more just me being curious."

Selena shifted a bit, looking away briefly. "Shoot." she muttered.

"...Do you have any family?"

Selena didn't respond, instead just staring down at the floor. Nikita noticed, soon sitting up and wrapping an arm around her. "I'm sorry...You... don't have to answer that, ma chère..."

Selena let Nikita hug her, simply continuing to stare at the floor. However, after a moment, she spoke. "...Nah. They died years ago. The only person even remotely close to being family is the Sheriff. He was my dad's best friend. He... got me out of a rough spot in Chicago, and brought me back here to Brimwater to help get me back on my feet."

"...Surprising." said Nikita, "...In my book, all cops are bastards, but... at least he cares about you."

"Yeah... at least there's that." responded Selena.

Nikita then asked her next question. "...Got a job anywhere yet?"

"...Finishing the hiring process over at the Blockbuster downtown. Just gotta finish signing some paperwork." answered Selena. "Why? Gonna offer me a job?"

"Oui. We can always use more people here at the Obsidian Underground." she said, smiling again. "Night shift, of course. How well can you handle booze? Like, serving and mixing drinks."

"...Its been a while, but I'm a fast learner."

"Good... I'll talk to David about getting you a job here as one of the bartenders in the VIP lounge. That way, I can keep an eye on you. Pay is twelve dollars an hour. Sound good?"

  • Alright. Sounds good.
  • Nah. I'm fine with Blockbuster.
  • ...I'll have to think about it.
