Brilliant Sounding Hammer


Born in the south, in the hills near Kirighast, a boy named Pulkin was born 40 years before the disappearance of the Empress. Here he took up his fathers trade of blacksmithing as well as his religion as a fervent follower of Ahlat. The tribe’s cattle were constantly in need of defending and the ways of the warrior are well known by every man of fighting age and many women as well.


Decades past and one night forces from two rival tribes banded together to steal all of Pulkin’s cattle. Fate dictated thought that an alarm would be sounded and the tribe would not die in its sleep. Some men instantly picked up sword and spear, but Pulkin knew this was no normal raid and decided to don his armor. A full minute into the battle he drew his two hooked swords and went out into the fray.


Outnumbered and surrounded there was no chance for Pulkin’s tribe until the glory of the Unconquered Sun shown down. Visions of the wonders of the first age filled Pulkin’s mind as the Unconquered Sun gave him a brief view and understanding of what could be possible. Then and there Pulkin vowed to help bring that vision to life, no matter what. It was then that the Unconquered Sun bestowed upon him his new name, his Sun Name: Radiant Sounding Hammer.


While the battle was not short, its outcome was certain. With one of the Chosen of the Sun on only one side, the other would loose. Brilliant Sounding Hammer knew that if he stayed in his village, with his tribe, that it would soon be visited by the Wyld Hunt. Those that were loyal to him because of his exploits in battle would be killed. All of his efforts would be lost to the forces of the Realm.


So, Radiant Sounding Hammer left his village and wandered into the mountains. It was many years before he wondered back out again, having found a refuge to allow the Unconquered Sun to work his chosen towards a brighter future. Now Brilliant Sounding Hammer is looking for more of his kind anywhere and everywhere using his Sorcery.


He knows now all to well that in the first age the Solar formed group, circles, to perform their greatest deeds. Bringing the Celestial Hierarchy back in line and recreating the glorious creations of the first age certainly falls under the heading of Great Deeds. Sooner or later the Deathlords will have to be dealt with.

GEMSTONE OF THE WHITE JADE TREE


(MANSE •••)


This blue-violet cabochon glows with a pale inner


light. This stone hardens the bearer’s skin; any damage


the character suffers after soak is cut in half (rounding


all fractions upward). This same hardness reduces


the possessor’s movement speed by half, rounding all


fractions down. This penalty applies to all forms of


movement, but can be cancelled by removing the stone


from its setting. Doing this also instantly cancels the


stone’s benefi cial effects.


JEWEL OF SWIFT COMPREHENSION (MANSE ••)


This colorless ovoid of ice-clear crystal speeds the


comprehension of visual information, from reading a


text to searching a room. The bearer may accomplish


such tasks a number of times faster than normal equal


to her permanent Essence +1, without any loss of


detail or understanding. A character with an Essence


of 3 could thus read four times faster than normal. In


addition, this jewel also reduces the diffi culty of all


Lore and Investigation rolls that involve reading or


visual observation by 2 (to a minimum of 1).


MEMORY STONE (MANSE •)


The character who carries this iridescent white,


cubical hearthstone will never forget anything. Every


image or incident, from a face seen in a crowd last


week, to the contents of a treaty that he hurriedly read


before being chased off by guards, will be remembered


in perfect and exact detail. The wearer’s player can even


make (Perception + Awareness) rolls after the fact for


his character to notice further details about an event.


Although this hearthstone does not allow the wearer


to learn Abilities, Charms or spells any faster or easier,


the wearer could read an ancient 1,000-page tome and


perfectly remember every word and illustration 50


years later. These unnaturally sharp memories begin


to fade to normal memories if the character ceases to


be attuned to this stone for more than one day.


UNBREAKABLE BONES OF STONE


Cost: 20m


Target: Caster


The sorcerer begins the Irresistible Song of Stone,


the song that earth elementals sing to themselves while


they sit deep in the soil (also used in the Sleep of Stony


Safety; see p. 60). She sings it wrong, however, and


the local earth elementals—perfectionists unable to


resist correcting such a thing—croon the song to her


correctly. The sorcerer’s silver-burning Essence absorbs


the corrected song, turning the sorcerer’s bones to stone


until the sun crosses the horizon twice.


The spell adds an amount equal to the sorcerer’s


permanent Essence rating to her Strength and Stamina


Attributes. Moreover, any wound penalties are halved,


rounded down, for the duration of the spell. Any


damage taken from falling is also cut in half, rounding


up. The sorcerer’s eyes turn the color of granite, her


skin becomes cold, tough and ashen, and her weight


increases by 50%.
