Gentle rustling caught Raphael's eye as he walked along the road, his eyes following every ripple or wave of the grass. This rustling was different... it was hectic. The grass, as it moved, he noticed just how large it was. It wasn't a small disturbance going through the grass, it was large. Raphael took a slight step backwards away from the edge of the grass, further onto the road. "I don't think now is the time for talking. We have been found!" Raphael reached down to his waist with both hards, pulling out two knives from what looked like small scabbards, the inside of which was nearly blinding white. The two blades, held in between his thumbs and first two fingers, had no hilt. No, the knife has two blades, one on each side. The entire knife was roughly six inches long, and appeared to be made of a pure white metal which gave of a light glow.

Suddenly, a strange abomination of a creature burst from the grass, barreling into the group. it appeared short, maybe two feet tall, with a bloated stomach. It's sin was scorched black, similar to charcoal, with sinful mist floating out of it's mouth. He had no idea what this creature was, but it was not alone. Another jumped out, and another. There was at least a dozen of them, all ready to strike.

Raphael placed both knives together, and then, he was prepared. Knife Clone (Failed - refunded virtue).

[dice]3484[/dice]

Raphael attempted to leap backwards, leaving behind a clone of himself, but it didn't work. It did not work at all. No, in the attempt, he slipped up, falling backwards on the path, landing on his back, vulnerable. his arm twisted awkwardly, as three of the creatures jumped on top of him, and slashed at him with their claws. He attempted to move away, lose them, and avoid the damage, unfortunately, they had the upper hand, which handicapped his attempt. (-1 to dice rolls to evade).

[dice]3485[/dice]

Two of the beasts struck him, the third failed to get bast the other two for it's chance at his flesh.Luckily for Raphael. Unluckily, the strike invoked pain, it hurt, a lot. These creatures claws were fairly dangerous. Raphael had but one release for his pain, a loud, and straining shriek. 4 damage.

Noel - Encounter Round 1

"Anything to add?" Stross said to Noel questioning his inquires. The hunter's own tone turned negative and hostile. It didn't seem like he enjoyed being questioned when it came to atuhority. He acted as if he was a supervisor or a floor manager in a factory back within the sanctuary. This only served to frustrate Noel more. He wasn't some common worker, he was far beyond the merit of a mere hunter, even if the hunter's skills were better than his own.

Noel glared at the hunter with increasing intensity now, however he refrained from trying to get too upset over the issue. Regaining his posture slightly, but never backing his gaze down in the duel of stares, he spoke with some clarity: "I just don't understand how a forest is safer than an established path. I mean consider..."

[dice]3486[/dice]

Noel stopped mid-sentence however when something caught his eye. A small split appeared in the rustling grass. Trying to remain focused on Stross he didn't give much concern about it in the beginning. After all he wasn't certain if it was anything more than the wind at first. However when Raphael yelled, it didn't take long for Noel to pull his sword out on an instinct.

Noel stood amazed at his own weapon for a few seconds, not even sure where the thought came from to wield the blade in such a way. Pointing towards the grass, he felt confident as Raphael quickly threw his mystical blades of light, only to feel some form of shock when both missed the targets surfing through the prairie grass. Not certain what to do, he moved towards Raphael, once again on instinct, even as the tiny blobs of fat and skin tackled Raphael and bit into his flesh. Raphael let out a whimpering scream, but this did not deter Noel (for reason's he wasn't yet sure) from coming to Raphael's aid and swinging his blade.

[dice]3487[/dice]

It was but a few seconds, yet Noel was certain he was dreaming. It was something similar to his horrible days of training when trying to be a militia-man. Except this time he actually hit the target. Panting slightly from his charge, he swung his sword against one of the blobs biting in to Raphael's flesh. Like a sack of fat, it spilled out blood and other guts after piercing its thin skin. The hit was so proficient however that Noel managed to hit the other blob that was trying to eat Raphael. He did not damage it but he at least unhinged its fangs and its claws and knocked it back into the grass.

However his focus on the two clinging to Raphael distracted him from the others lurking in the field around the group. Especially the one that was so near to him, the one that failed to attack Raphael in the first strike.

[dice]3488[/dice]

Fortunately, just as the monster seemed to lunge forward at him, Noel managed to move out of the way and stand over Raphael. Protecting Raphael's body from further attacks until he could get back onto his feet.

Elisa turns to the two arguing. "I.. I really think you should both just stop fightin-"

[dice]3489[/dice] She lets out a small shriek as they Pile on to Raphael, and one strikes him hard- before she realizes what's going on, she draws her blade in an flowing, smooth movement completely alien to her- and at the same time, deeply comforting. And that's why she doesn't notice, as a trio of surgers amble at her from behind, claws out and mouths wide- expelling the rotting and stinking clouds of sinful energy.

[dice]3490[/dice] [dice]3491[/dice] [dice]3492[/dice]

As she turns, just in time- her innate reflexes saving her from the first two- as the first charges, and she spins- blocking it's strikes with her blade, causing a horrific shrieking of claws on metal as it's claws rake harmlessly down her blade- and she sidesteps the clumsy charge of the second- stepping right in to the way of the third, which claws her up her back, tearing her dress slightly and drawing blood as it shrieks out- and it is to this one she turns her attention, as she shrieks in a mix of unholy rage, and pain.

[dice]3493[/dice]

Sadly, that very rage combined with her lack of real belief she can do it, seems to throw her strike off, as she misses the little bastard completely, swinging right over it's head.

He had been walking ahead when the people started screeching. The rapid drawing of blades seemed to add to the urgency behind him. Ebon whirled around to see what the cacophony was about when -something- leaped from the tall grasses at him! He turned to one side just a fraction to late as 'whatever in the name of Blood' went flying past him, taking a chunk out of his arm.

Another galloped out of the tall grass and pounced for his face, vile claws hoping to rend flesh and bone. Without thinking, Ebon ducked, and the Rotting Surger flew over his head and onto his back, digging into his flesh with it's razor-sharp claws found purchase.

The third of the trio that sought his body for their lunch came at him as he was crouched, swiping at him with talons that would put most swords to shame for their sheer sharpness. To avoid them, Ebon rolled backwards, letting the Surger hit nothing but air. The thing was faster than he gave it credit for though, and it sunk it's teeth into his thigh and started shaking it's head to side to side, trying to prise the meat from his bones.

Ebon leapt up off the ground and drew his axe. The thing vibrated in his hands, eager for blood. Eager to kill. His teeth gritted to the pain, he growled out some advice to the others. - He'd seen his fair share of fighting after all. "Everyone, pair up, back to back so these things can't get you in the weak spots!" If only they'd moved quicker, they wouldn't be getting made into lunch by these leaping horrors...

Sathel hadn't really been looking for anything while she heard the other fighting. She simply shook her head at their snapping and when she heard the brushes rustle she looked over at them with a bit of interest. When the first creature pounced out she hadn't been prepared for it though it wasn't jumping out at her it did shock her quite a bit though she hadn't been attacked right away.

"What the-"

A Rotting Surger tilted its deformed head at her and her eyes narrowed at it quickly as it jumped around her a few times before finally pouncing at her. Sathel moved quickly to dodge it and when it pounced again she wet the blade with her own blood before throwing it at the creature.

[dice]3498[/dice]

The creature was hit with the blade in the shoulder but hardly looked phased. It pounced at her again and she attempted to avoid it's attack already having given up some of her own health for that attack.

[dice]3499[/dice]

Sathel moved out of the way quickly and smirked. Not even nicked! This seems easier then I thought it would be! Bute no sooner then the thought had crossed her mind had the creature moved to attack her again. Okay... you need to stay down, she thinks and pulls out another one of her knives.

[dice]3500[/dice]

The creature fell and Sathel ripped her knife from its skull, hearing Ebon and nodding stiffly. Small victory but shortly lived due to more work. She couldn't imagine getting mulled form the back was a very good ending and she wasn't going out today. At least this way they would be able estimate how many of these monsters were coming after them.

"I can't imagine killing over three hundred of these things is going to be very easy at all," she hisses and glanced back at the others.

As the creatures sprung out of the grass and began attacking the group, Stross stepped backwards, drawing his bow.

"There is no reason for me to get in close, I'll simply be at a disadvantage." Stross thought to himself. He scanned the field quickly, noting that ten creatures had already burst out of the grass, their deformed shapes easily seen on the road. Most of his compatriots were either doing fine, or seemed to have someone helping them, however it seemed the mender was knocked over and mauled, and the noble had no other people watching his back.

"The mender can help me more in the long run. I'll just have to hope Ebon lives long enough for help to come."

He looked towards Raphael and Noel, his eyes narrowing as he raised his bow with the experience of years behind his movements. Inhale. Draw. Exhale. Release. The arrow accelerated towards it's target, cutting through the air, producing a whistling note for those nearby to hear.

[dice]3501[/dice]

The arrow hit the abomination, not through the stomach where it had been aimed, but through the thigh instead. Luckily, the downward angle allowed the arrow to still preform the intended job, pinning the creature in it's place in front of Noel, allowing him to quickly finish it, or to concentrate on the third monster attempting to rend flesh from Raphael's bones.

"Disgraceful." Stross thought to himself. "It seems I need to work on my aim. Now, which one is next..."

Avvros had been casually walking, enjoying the strange new environment. In a way it was creepy, but he did not seem to mind. His pace had slowed down to the point where he was behind the others. They had been arguing and discussing strange things, about blood amounts, camping and other stuff he could not be bothered with.

What he could be bothered with however is that he saw strange creatures suddenly jump out and attack his new friends, he saw Raphael get attacked, then again, falling to the ground. He saw Noel stand over him, but it was better if he was removed from harm's way.

"Raphael" he shouted, unsure why he called out his name, the magic just seemed natural to him, and then they switched places.

[dice]3507[/dice]

Raphael was a few feet back where Avvros was, in safety and Avvros was now on the ground behind Noel. This had all slightly distracted Noel who had been concerned with Raphael's safety, before a Surger could attack him however, he swiftly moved his Halberd and stabbed right in between Noel's legs, a massive pole extending in front of him now, striking the Surger in it's mouth, pushing it back.

As Raphael laid on the floor, monsters crawling all over him, Noel came to his rescue, slashing one of the monsters in half, and knocking the second one off of him. Strange how one can go from being the protector to the protected. Last time they met, they were both young children, but the rolls clearly reversed. A wisely sound could be heard off to the side, as an arrow pug into one of the beasts to Raphael's side, pinning it down. Then, without even noticing, he was standing up, looking over at Noel and Avvros lay underneath. It seemed like everyone was trying to keep him safe. If only he was strong enough to keep them safe instead.

However, the two damaged enemies seemed to turn their claws onto their own guts, a vile laughter coming from their mouths. Raphael couldn't help but wonder what they were thinking.

[dice]3550[/dice]

Raphael had no knowledge of what the creatures were doing, but It was clear what the creatures intention was very shortly. As their claws dug into their flesh, and the wound glowed purple, then suddenly, there was a flash of violet light as the creatures exploded into a shower of blood and guts in an area around them. Raphael did notice those two were damaged, but alive before they seemed to detonate. "You got to finish them off! Leave them wounded and they'll blow!"

Raphael saw all of the creatures running around, and knew it was time to bring on some real attacks.

[dice]3551[/dice]

Pulling out Two new knives from his scabbards, and then, with a slip of his thumb, the blades seemed to duplicate into two. Then, as he thought about the people he needed to protect and help, he closed his eyes and slowed his breath. The blades split again, into three. With six knives split between his hands, he opened his eyes then looked for some targets. He found three, all surrounding a girl, Elisa.

Raphael last out, throwing a spray of knives into the three beasts which surround Elisa.

Two Daggers into each Rotting Surger. The first Three Dice are 2 damage, the last three are 1 damage. These related to Enemies 8, 9, 10.

[dice]3552[/dice]

The knives turned around in rapid circles and moved with deadly precision. Only two did not strike. Raphael recalled the explosion that just occurred, and with that he knew he would need to finish of the ones he damaged. He quickly reached into his scabbards, pulling out two more knives and threw them with haste towards two f the damaged enemies.

One Dagger into each Rotting Surger 8 and 9. The first dice is 2 damage into 9, and the second is 1 damage into 8.

[dice]3553[/dice]

both blades struck their mark, and the final assault ended in one dead, and two wounded painfully.

Final Results:

Enemy 8:
4 Damage

Enemy 9: 3 Damage

Enemy 10: 1 Damage

It all happened too fast. So fast that Noel couldn't even recognize what was occurring anymore. Everyone in the group seemed to be dealing with the bloated sacks of skin as they tried to bite and slash. Standing over Raphael, Noel took a second to breath in not noticing up until that point that he was hyperventilating from all the physical activity. It looked like seven of the tiny demons still were alive, and were surrounding the group in a similar manner to stray dogs. Looking at his sword, Noel tried to think about what it was that he needed to do.

[dice]3555[/dice]

There was one alternative that he knew of, as all who wield their weapons know of their abilities, but it was far too dangerous as it would inflict damage to everyone around him. Not knowing how much Raphael was hurt, he didn't want to act. Yet staring at the blade allowed Noel to catch one thing: a tiny flicker of purple light. Even though he already was alarmed by the screams and screeches the tiny creatures made who tried to approach him and Raphael, Noel at once seemed to piece the screams and the light together as if it were a chemical equation. "Explosions!" Noel said to everyone.

[dice]3554[/dice]

However before Noel could brace himself and protect Raphael, which was a thought in the back of his head, a sort of instinct took over him. Immediately he jumped back to avoid the violet explosions that came forth from the tiny creatures. Noel only narrowly escaped from the blast radius, as tiny purple embers engulfed his robe-like vestments. Nothing of his body was harmed but portions of his white shirt were charred even after he quickly reacted to pat out the purple flames before they grew.

Panting more, he looked around the battle to examine the entire situation. This was nothing like any war games he played as a child. The explosion left him shaking slightly, but not enough to actually daze him. The violet smoke of the explosion had not yet cleared from the blast radius when Noel's worries of his childhood friend were cleared. Not because he saw Avvros in Raphael's place, but because he saw Raphael standing safely behind him some yards away.

Confident that everyone escaped the attack, he thought to attack one of the other creatures so that they could not have a chance to explode.

But Noel was still raddled by the explosion. So much so that even though the two other bags of flesh that stood over Elisa started to screaming and hissing as the one's who just exploded, he couldn't bring himself to run towards a living-bomb. Instead he tried to make himself useful and ran towards Ebon hoping to remove at least one of the targets pinning him down.

[dice]3556[/dice]

In a way he succeed because just as Noel was aiming for one of the monsters that were attacking Ebon, another one adjacent to his target jumped off of Ebon and tried to cling itself to Noel. Startled by this, Noel almost forgot about Ebon and slash right through his own pouncing attacker. The blade went right through it like butter, killing it (Rotting Surger #6 for 4 damage).

[dice]3557[/dice]

However even as the blood and guts got all over him, Noel somehow managed to stop in his tracks and take a few steps back with his blade pointed towards the other creatures climbing on Ebon. A few more steps though, and Noel would have tripped over Ebon's body and probably have found himself pinned by the monsters within the next few seconds.

Final Results:

Her eyes widen as the first one explodes near Noel- then she see's the two near her, beginning to spasm in a similar fashion. She nod's to Raphael, momentarily- before leaping backwards in a graceful motion- seeming to almost flow through the air, the woman land's a good distance away, as the two near her explode.

[dice]3559[/dice]

Her eyes wide, almost frozen in shock, she look's around before spotting the one running at the Archer from behind- not quite at him yet, but likely about to close the distance. She closes her eyes for a moment, and without understanding, raises her blade skyward, and utters a simple sentence. "You have been Judged, and found wanting." Even as she speaks, a beautiful white light shines from her sword- then blasts into the sky. This is followed within a second, by a rather large blade, falling from the sky upon the monster, and obliterating it from existence in a shining white light.

[dice]3560[/dice]

Her eyes widen at the near total annihilation of her target, and she staggers slightly as the energy flow's through her.

Dodge rolled away from the two about to explode, then struck Surger Number 7 for 10 Damage, Overkilling it.

The 'Thing' was still on him, climbing on his back and trying to bite off his head. This sort of behavior did not bring out the best in Ebon. He'd spent too many years brawling and fighting in the back alleys of the Sanctuary, too long learning that respect meant spilling others' blood for him to let the thing simply devour him. How dare it attack him! How dare the others watch as he got eaten! The old rage that he'd suppressed so well these last few years reared up and roared.

He grasped the handle of the axe slung on his back, and roared in concert with his temper...

Dealing 4 damage (1 life + 3) with Explosive Pain

The soiled cloth and plate of his surcoat erupted along the line of his spine, a crimson explosion that blew the Surger off his back and hit everything else behind him, leaving a ragged gash down his spine, The surger twitched on the road, it's body split in twain by the force of the explosion, one claw twitching as it slowly lost control of it's limbs.

Avvros was exteremly pleased that he was able to get Raphael to safety, he didn't know he could do that, but it came to him as natural as breathing. He was sure he would discover and try out new skills in the future. However his prideful thoughts and satisfaction at his new feat where interrupted when Noel suddenly jumped out of the way. Two of the creatures exploding near him.

[dice]3653[/dice]

He managed to successfully avoid one of the explosions.

[dice]3654[/dice]

Then the second one.

He looked around and attempted to assess the situation. He couldn't figure out which one to go for next.
