Blood Oath ((Deth x Detective Rascal))

"It was okay, I liked it. I breezed through school, good grades and all that. Then I moved out of my ma's place and got my own, was in an apartment building, and I had a few pretty cool neighbours. Job was okay, worked at a cafe, but really it was there to keep me alive and pay the bills, and supply my art habit."

Kalla gave herself a moment to think before she continued on, having to think about whether she should continue.

"I was actually going on a walk when I found you, thought you were dying. There were all these men about, and they tried to kill me. But well, they didn't, your the one who did that. But after I fended them off, I stayed with you so you wouldn't be alone when death came for ya. I thought that I could at least be kind to someone after being so violent with so many others, I'm not a violent soul by any amount."

((Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner :D Got busy with family))

Shain chuckled softly, "I see. Sounds like a normal life to me." he said with a shrug. "I'm grateful for your kindness. Even if it ended up in a way you probably hadn't wanted." he said sheepishly.

((Bah! Daughter woke up... will reply more next time!! ...Weekends... suck. lol j/k))

"Eh, I've pretty much accepted the fact that I am now a Vampire. I guess that didn't take me so long to do so though."

Kalla was trying to make sure that Shain didn't feel too bad, a basic instinct of hers, even though it was entirely his fault for Kalla turning into a vampire.

"Though I guess you didn't get the best out of the deal either, you now have to cart around me everywhere, which I'm sure is a drag on your normal daily life."

Shain shrugged at her comment. "Actually, it's nice having someone to talk to that isn't always condescending to you." he said with a grin. He sighed, and stood from where he sat, stretching. "Come on. Let's keep moving." he said lightly, taking a few steps. He thought about offering a hand to help her up again, but after his previous two attempts, he figured it would go unwanted again, so he just shoved them into his pockets again.

"Really? Fine."

Kalla got up from her position on the floor, and followed Shain once again to where the colony was. Sticking behind him to make sure that she didn't lose him, her only guide to the vampire world.

"Wait, do we sleep? Or do we just need a sit down every so often? Did we just do a vampire's version of a nap?"

Shain laughed and shook his head. "No. We do sleep, but not as often as humans. I sleep every couple of days, or when I'm feeling extra tired." he explained with a shrug. "It all depends on the vampire. There are some who kept the habit of sleeping like humans, and there are some who didn't. I, for one, didn't." he laughed again as they continued walking. "Let me know if you need to sleep." he added gently.

"Well, I don't need to sleep now, but I like the idea of resting. It's not like I got a good nights sleep each night when I was a human."

Kalla continued followed Shain, keeping up with his footsteps so that she was still close enough to talk to him. She was a slow walker, and it seemed as though Shain was a faster walker than herself, but then most people were.

"So, really vampires are just like humans, only there's little differences here and there."

Shain nodded, "Yup. That's about the jist of it. The only major difference is the fact we need blood to keep our strength up." he said with, yet another indifferent shrug. He fell silent as they walked, slowing his steps as he noticed she walked slower than he. After a while, he glanced at her, "Any other questions?" he asked with a grin.

Kalla give herself a second to think before answering Shain, she had gone through all the question that she had whirling around in her head, but then Kalla knew that she was bound to think up more when she needed to know something she hadn't already covered.

"I think I'm good for now. I still don't know anything about the social rules and stuff, but half of that would just be me learning from actually seeing it happen than rather asking about it. So I think I have all the basic things,"

Shain nodded, and fell silent. He wasn't used to company, having normally kept to himself. They walked the rest of the time silently, stopping occasionally to rest. It was the middle of the night when they reached the border between the human territory, and the vampire's territory. Shain looked around, studying the ground and surrounding area. "We're clear to cross." he said softly, and continued forward. "There's a small colony a little bit farther away. We can stop there for some food." he explained.

"Food? As in chips or as in, the other food."

Kalla was suddenly very nervous, she probably did need to drink blood, she hadn't yet, but the idea of drinking blood that used to be (or was still) inside someone suddenly got her a little scared. She had no clue as to what to do when it came to that, eating chips she could do though, she'd done that a million times in her life.

Shain chuckled, "Both. And no, we don't drink directly from a living body, if that's what your thinking. Well, not normally." he said, adding the last part a little sheepishly. "We get shipments from the blood banks from the different races." he explained, glancing back to Kalla. "If you have trouble with idea of drinking it, you can lace some wine with the stuff. It makes it a little easier." he suggested, smiling reassuringly.

"Can I eat it with my chips? I don't really like wine."

Kalla felt better with Shain's reassurance, she wouldn't have been able to handle drinking from someone so soon. But then, she also didn't like wine, and she wanted to lighten the mood

Shain nodded, "Yeah. You can do that to." he said with a short laugh. As they walked, he continued to explain. "You're new, so they will probably act indifferently toward you. Ask me any questions you have, not them. If one of them is speaking to me, please wait until they have finished. It's all a game of politics with vampires. I'm their leader, so they will fuss over me. If you can, just watch how they act and treat each other." he said as a small group of houses came into view. "If anyone asks, remember. You were willing, and we've been in contact for a while. You know enough to make the story passable." he said softly as they neared the colony.

Kalla nodded at everything Shain was saying, soaking up everything and just building herself up on the inside so she was prepared to face whoever came to them.

Usually, she would have been cool with something like this, Kalla was could at least pretending to be confident in front of people, but the apprehensiveness of everything that had happened did rattle a little inside of her chest. Though Kalla was ready for it, taking in Shain's advice so that she could pull it off.

((Sorry it took me a bit to get back. :D But I'm here!!))

Shain glanced back at her before he continued his way into the small colony. Almost immediately there were people, other vampires, coming out of the homes. He greeted each of them lightly, introducing Kalla to them as a new member of the race. They, as he had said, glanced at her, but paid her no real attention. The two were whisked off to the main building, which was slightly larger than the rest, and treated to a meal.

Kalla did her best, she made sure to not say anything, and nodded to whoever made eye contact or even looked at her, and she made it through the ordeal. Though it was definitely interesting to see all the other vampires, and her first experience with more than just the one went pretty well, or at least Kalla thought it did. Shain hadn't scolded her yet, so she must have at least done some things right.

But finally they had a break, and a meal was a good idea after all that Kalla had been through.
