Bittersweet Revenge

Classes went by pretty uneventfully, as always. When the bell signaling it was lunch rang, Slader was nearly jumping out of his chair to exit the classroom.

He stuffed his math book into his locker, and began walking toward the courtyard where he knew his friends would be sitting.

His eyes locked onto Dean and Cambree for a short moment before he regained his composure. After all, he was the best at acting like nothing ever happened, even if deep down his insides were tearing apart from stress and guilt.

"Ello boys. Ladies." He greeted with a charming grin. They always had a few stray, single girls at their table just dying to talk to one of the guys. Typically Slader.

He sat beside some bombshell blonde named Karry and slung his arm around her shoulder playfully. "How is everyone this fine afternoon?"

School sucked, especially today. All she could think about was what she'd done. She knew drinking was dumb. It was just even more dumb with the school's biggest womanizer. He didn't even have to try.. He was just hot. No, fuck. She's not suppose to think that. Why was this so confusing to her?

She barely said a word all day and at lunch, she just sat quietly next to Dean. He didn't seem to notice though. Her eyes flicked up from her phone, hearing Slader's familiar voice. She grinned a little bit, watching him sit down and put his arm around some girl. At least he was doing alright.

As wrong as it was, all she could think about every time she looked at him was doing it again. Why? She had no idea.

"I feel like it's been forever, man. How was your weekend? You missed an awesome party at Gregg's house," Dean told his best friend.

She looked over at Dean when he bumped her playfully after seeing her basically staring at Slader. Cambree just grinned and kissed his cheek. Dean was a guy... He just didn't always his priorities straight.

Slader smiled warmly at Dean and removed his arm from Karry's shoulder. "It was pretty good, I guess. I heard it was great, kinda bummed I missed out. But I had some fun of my own." He replied vaguely.

Derek, who was sitting on the other side of Cambree, laughed at Slader's comment. "Fun? You call watching chick flicks fun?" He scoffed.

"Nah, I had other plans. The movie, or whatever the fuck it was, sucked. Don't ever let a girl convince you of something like that." He shook his head, laughing gently.

A few other girls seated themself at another table directly across from them. They were what you'd consider "popular" and we're stealing glances at the guys. One, a red head who's name was Britanny, sauntered over and flirtatiously smiled.

"Slader, Dean, boys. There's going to be a bonfire tomorrow night at my house. You should come." She winked at Dean playfully.

Cambree grinned slightly at Slader's answer but then looked over at Derek and laughed a little bit.

"Chick flicks aren't that bad," Cambree chimed in, looking back towards Slader. Guys were just so brainwashed to think that they were bad because they actually had feelings in them and not violence. What a concept.

The look on Cambree's face when Britanny came over in a skippy shorts and boobs popping out must've been a Grade-A Bitch Face. Especially when she saw her wink at her boyfriend. She expected Dean to decline the offer but he didn't.

Dean didn't even looked phased though. In fact, he smiled at her. "Of course. It'll be great," He answered, his smile turning into more of a smirk. Cambree crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. Oh, so he'd go to a party to see a girl but couldn't bring his own girlfriend. She felt like she didn't even the right to be jealous or upset. She'd cheated on him afterall...

Slader looked up, his face expressionless. Honestly, he wasn't interested, but seeing that Dean went, he knew that he couldn't decline. "Cool. But I'm bringing beer. Sorry." He shrugged and took a sip of the powerade he had brought to school with him.

Britanny grinned excitedly. "Oh, I wouldn't expect anything less out of you, Slader." She teased before strolling back to her own table.

Red heads are weird... he thought to himself. The normal conversation picked up again, and he couldn't help but glance at Cambree a few times. She must be feeling ten times worse than he was. Sighing, he returned his attention to Karry and his powerade.

Cambree pursed her lips and looked back down towards her lap. She wanted to call out Dean but she knew it wasn't her place now. She began to chip off the pink nail polish she'd put on them a few days ago. God, this whole situation sucked.

She looked up and leaned over to Dean, telling him that she'd be back, although he barely even looked her way. She bit her lip and stood up from the table, grabbing her bag which sat on top of her. She glanced in Slader's direction before walking out of the courtyard and towards the cafeteria. She hadn't brought anything to eat today and was kind of hungry, so she figured that they vending machine must've had something. Plus, she really just wanted to get away from the group.

It wasn't that it was awkward, because it was only the two of them that knew, but she felt like she couldn't say anything now because something might just come out. Like a wrong comment or something. She was probably just being paranoid.

Slader frowned thoughtfully as Cambree left. After a few minutes, he decided that he'd go after her to make sure she was okay. "I'll be back, I'm going to go smoke really quick" he announced.

Once inside, he hurried over to where he saw her turn, and found her at one of the cafateria's vending machines.

"Hey..." He said quietly as he placed a hand gently on her shoulder. "How are you holding up?" He asked.

It probably wasn't the best that he just had been ignoring her, but he didn't know what to do either.

Cambree walked into the cafeteria and shifted her weight slightly as she stood in front of the vending machine, trying to figure out what sounded good.

Her heart stopped for a second, hearing Slader behind her. She bit her lip at his touch and shrugged a little bit. "I'm not?" She answered honestly and laughed a little bit as she fed the vending machine her dollar. She punched in the number for a Poptart and then turned to face Slader.

"Am I suppose to tell him? I don't want to ruin everyone's relationships, Slader. It was all my fault and it's my responsibility but I seriously don't know what to do," She told him sadly,"I'm really sorry for dragging you into this..."

Sighing, Slader rubbed the back of his neck and laughed nervously. "I let us get drunk. It wasn't just you. It's both of our faults." He lowered his voice a bit.

"Look, why don't you come to the bonfire with us. Maybe you and Dean can have some alone time. Act like you did around me, but with him. Then maybe you'll forget all about it." He shrugged.

That was the best he could come up with at the time. She needed to get her thoughts back on Dean and forget about Slader. Though girls hardly did.

Cambree pursed her lips in thought. "It was fun at least," She told him with a little bit of a smile,"Right? I wasn't a totally shit?" She remembered the majority of the night and she didn't think that she'd been a total dab. She hadn't vomited all over his room so that was good.

She crossed her arms when he suggested that she should go to the bonfire. "If he even lets me," She responded with an eye roll,"That stupid red-heads got it out for him. I know he flirts behind my back and whatever but... I don't know. It bothers me that we can't go out because of it," She told him.

She sighed and leaned down, picking up the Poptart that had fallen from the machine and then stood back up again. "Act drunk? Is that what you're suggesting?" She asked him almost jokingly with a laugh.

Slader smiled softly. "It was fun," he agreed. It was a hell of a lot more than just fun, but now was not the time to be thinking or saying such things.

"Just go. If he flirts with girls, flirt with guys. Then maybe he'll see whatta catch you are." He suggested with a harmless wink. He wasn't flirting with her, just stating the facts.

"No, I mean dress like how you were and act all flirty and sexy." He corrected her, his face emotionless.

Cambree was happy to hear that he thought it was fun. At least he didn't totally regret it then.

She grinned a little bit and nodded. "Yeah, I guess so," She said, figuring it couldn't hurt to try. She guessed if he ended up not wanting her to go, she could just show up and show him that she could hang with his friends and go little get togethers.

"You think I'm sexy?" She asked him curiously with a bit of a raised brow. She wasn't sure if she'd ever been described that way. She knew that now wasn't the time for that but just came out. She obviously had a filter problem, especially around him.

Slader gave Cambree a smile in response and turned to head back go the guys. He threw her a wink over his shoulder, basically go confirm that indeed, she was sexy.

Once out with the guys again, Derek began talking about some Mediterranean chick who he had hooked up with last weekend. The girls with them made faces as he explained the whole scene in gruesome detail.

Cambree smiled to herself when Slader turned around. She'd take that.

Instead of going back to the table, she stayed inside the cafeteria and headed to a table where a few of her girl friends hung out. Her best friend and her didn't sit together at lunch anymore because she didn't really like all the guys they hung out with. She couldn't blame them. She sat down with them and smiled, hugging her bestie, Carly, and then began to eat her Poptart. It was nice to actually hear about things like clothes and makeup and boys for once.

(Skipppinggggg)

The next day, Slader sat in his black outside of Dean's house. He had agreed to pick him up, but had forearmed his friend that he may have to drive back.

A case of Bud Light was in the backseat, ready to go. Typically, he would drink that much himself, but he was feeling generous.

Cambree bit her lip, looking at herself in the full length mirror in her room. Once again, she was all dolled up and ready to go, but second guessing it. Her shoulder-length hair was curled and tousled and she had dark eyeshadow that brought out her hazel eyes. She even put on red lipstick. She looked great in her (outfit) too.

She considered going with Dean but she realized that if she wanted to bail, just in case something happened. She walked over to her desk and grabbed her purse and phoned, then headed out of her room and downstairs.

Tonight would be good, she was convincing herself of it.

Slader pulled up the large estate that belonged to Britanny. Typically their iron gate was closed, but tonight she must have purposefully left it open. Their house was huge, three stories, and beautiful. They lived on ten acres of property; a perfect place for a bonfire.

Speaking of which, the flame from the fire was rising up in the distance and the silhouettes of teens partying could be seen. It was already dark by the time him and Dean arrived.

They got out of the car and made their way toward the others. Britanny came up, all dressed up in the sluttiest of outfits. "Hey boysssss. I see you brought the booze," she winked and ran a hand across Slader's shoulder before skipping off.

He was dressed in his usual, just without the jacket.

Cambree walked out to her car and got in, then started on the way towards Britanny's house which Dean had sent her directions to. Technically she wasn't invited but it wasn't like she'd kick her out with Dean around.

She pulled up to her street, which was totally packed. She parked near the curb, then got out and headed up to the house. It was a really nice house.. Not wonder she was so snobby.

She followed the trail of people who were coming and going and headed out towards the backyard. The bonfire was a little farther out in her backyard. She put her hands in the pockets of her Army jacket and walked along with everyone. She considered calling Dean but she thought it'd be better just to surprise him.

Slader patted Dean's shoulder. "Alright buddy, I'm going that way. There's a cutie over there in less clothes than is legal and I wanna know her name." He smirked.

He was assuming this particular girl was foe another school, because he didn't recognize her. She wore high waisted cut offs that just barely covered her ass, and a bandeau style top. Her black hair was pulled back in an elaborate braid. She was hot.

"Hey, what's your name?" He asked, beer in hand and putting on the charming smile he was famous for.

Cambree walked up to the party and over to a cooler, grabbing herself a beer so that she could fit in with everyone else. She looked around for her blonde boyfriend, getting up on her tip toes to peer around all the party.

She smiled when she saw him, standing around. She walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey big boy, looking for some fun?" She asked him teasingly before taking a drink of her beer.

Dean turned around and raised his eyebrows, looking down at his girlfriend. "Oh shit, Bree," He said and then laughed a little bit,"Babe, you look hot." He leaned down and kissed her and Cambree grinned, kissing him back. That was probably the most action she'd gotten in a week.

"Matison. And you?" The black haired girl responded. Her green eyes lingered over the guy before her as she leaned against a truck that was parked behind her. It must've been one Britanny kept out back.

"Slader. You don't go to WestRidge, do you?" He asked her to confirm his suspicions that she didn't go to his school.

"Nope, but I really should if they've got guys like you there," Matison responded with a smirk. Damn, she's got better game than I do.

Slader grinned slyly and ran a hand through his tousled, dark hair. Just then, a girl that did go to his school ran up to snag Matison. They must've been friends. He laughed as he heard the words "the Slader..." And "soooo hot" coming from the two girls.

Cambree smiled and laced her fingers with Dean's.

"You're drinking?" Dean asked her curiously with the raise of an eyebrow. He plucked the beer from her hands and basically swallowed half the bottle before handing it back to her.

"Just trying to have some fun," Cambree responded with a smile, taking another drink. She followed Dean closer to the fire and to a small group of his friends who were talking about some half-naked chicks on the other side of the bonfire who had been eyeing them since they'd got there.

She tilted her head to the side to get a look at them. Plastered with makeup, booty shorts and a bikini top. Yum. What a great taste in girls they all had...

Slader returned from said half naked group of chicks and walked up to his friends, a stupid grin plastered on his lips.

"I pretty much got all of their numbers." He exclaimed triumphantly, sliding his phone back into his pocket. That would make four more easy hookups. Score.

Deep down, though, he really felt bad for thinking about those girls that way. Someday he planned to settle down with the right one. But for now, a little fun wouldn't hurt.

"That were practically swooning that they were talking to 'the Slader. Am I really that famous?" He winked at the group and popped open another beer, taking a long excessive gulp. He momentarily smiled over at Cambree. She looked good, even with actual clothing on.

Cambree looked up when she heard Slader's oh-so familiar voice bragging about getting a bunch of girls numbers. She wasn't surprised. He could just say his name and ran his hand through his hair and their panties dropped.

She smiled a little bit, listening to him. "It would appear that way," She agreed to him being famous. She grinned when they locked eyes, then looked back towards the group, taking another drink of her beer.

Dean's eyes focused on the girls across the bonfire who were looking at the group of guys and giggling. They were hot. Easy, for sure. Hell, they'd probably all join in and have a foursome in some shed in the backyard. Craig and Nick smirked and started to walk in their direction, nodding Dean to follow along. Dean looked over at Cambree and thought for a second before smiling. "I'm going to get a drink, sweetheart, alright?" He excused himself from her and started to walk along with the guys,"You comin', Slader?"

Cambree's grin fell from her face, watching Dean begin to walk with the other guys. Her eyes shifted to Slader when he was invited to go to. She sighed quietly and chugged back the rest of her beer. He tasted disgusting but getting a little tipsy sounded great.

Slader shook his head. "I've had enough sluts for one night." He explained as he took another swig of his beverage. He turned to face Cambree, an apologetic smile on his lips.

"He's not going to do anything but flirt. I know that doesn't help, but he's harmless." Unlike us.

"Keep your head up and have some fun. Remember what I said, he flirts, you flirt back. Pick any guy at this party and go smother him with your cuteness." He suggested, gesturing with his bottle at the multitude of people surrounding them,
