Futuristic BioGenesis: Surviving the Post Apocalypse

He looked at the group as they moved deeper into the darkness. He breathed a sigh of relief for them leaving him in his solitude. He looked down at the corpse. The skin was festering and carried a yellow tint with blisters bloating the skin a variety of places. The cheek bone poked through with its pure white color in contrast to the rest of the of the body. "He must have been hit here at some point for the decay to eat away at that spot so fast." he muttered to himself. The eyes were a brilliant pink color a result of blood capillaries popping in the inner eye. He looked at the black ooze pouring from his neck filled with Biocide wanting with all its genetic code to gain a new host. He pulled open the corpse's jacket to study the torso. "This could be grand." he thought. Like cheek he knew this guy took a beating as some of his ribs showed through clearly. Judging from the fact that he was still walking around when they got there he must have infected some of his companions, more then a mere two or three. He looked up to see that the lady tuned on a bright light source to keep the group moving. He felt the night air chill down his spine. He looked out the doors to see two figures at the gate. They wouldn't know what he was about to do. From his left coat pocket he pulled out a dog whistle and blew into it. The house came alive as the screech of the inflicted from the depths of the house heard me clearly but no human soul did of course. I'm sure everyone head the call of hell though, it beckoned. I moved out quickly and sat on the stone steps to let things take there course or least I hoped so. No matter either way I thought.

Frank sat gripped his wood splitting ax and was standing in a closet with the door slightly open in order to peer out. He waited patiently looking through the crack of the door peering out into the living room of a broken down home. Furniture was ripped apart and wallpaper was hanging from the the stained walls. Carpet was ripped up in placed showing the rotting wood floors underneath. Frank stood in the darkness of the closet until he noticed something walk by the door. He thought to his self, "Finally, I've been in here for ages." Quickly he slammed the door open knocking the humanoid creature to the floor. Lifting his weapon above his head the yellow flaky face turned to him as he swung ax into the monsters skull. A quick thud and it was over. Blood spots freckled on his black duster. Removing the bloody ax he walked towards what now was the kitchen and grabbed small candy bar off the counter. With a grin he smiled and said, "Got ya."

He had noticed the candy bar through the window as he was going through the city, but he had also noticed a infected one had been residing in the house as well. Frank ripped open the wrapper with his teeth and spit out the plastic covering. With a quick chomp into the bar he made his way outside the rotting house. Looking to the sky he thought of his next move. It was going to be dark soon, he needed to make camp before it got to out of hand. Even near the coastline it was still dangerous at night. Past experiences have taught him it was better to hide at night and scavenge in the day.

A red streak exploded into a bright red light and slowly fell to the ground in the distance. It was rather close. He knew immediately it was a flare due to his military background. It was probably a trap set up by some looters or bandits. However it was close to night, it could possibly be someone in need of help. Frank thought it over quickly and thought,
"Meh, might as well check it out." He could scout it out and if it looked to dangerous he could always go the other way.

After making his way towards the flare he caught glimpse of a gate covered in vines and shrubbery. Along with that a smaller women near the gate. He was close enough to her to see that she seemed to be in tears. Possibly the one who shot the flare and needed help. He tossed the remaining bar to the side. Frank decided he does not like marshmallow filled candy bars. He decided t. Clinching his ax in his hand and a small blood stained bag slung around his shoulder he spoke.
"Excuse me miss. Uhm.."

At this point he noticed that she was speaking the female behind the bars who apparently was on guard for the person ho shot the flare. He spoke out in general,
"I could help you stand guard until your friends return if you like. It is getting dark soon..."

Carter's face lit up as she spoke. "Y-you talk." She said happily. Human. A pure, flesh and blood human. "Oh, you're very welcome!" She said. Carter was so happy that she couldn't stand still. She started to jump up and down and then side to side, obviously ecstatic about the whole situation. "Wait. You're telling me there's more?!" Carter asked. At this point, she was in tears. "More of them. more of you? Not exactly you, no. Different individuals. Different personalities!" She didn't know how to feel. The warm tears slid down her face, collecitng the dirt and dust off of it and soon revealing her skin. "Please. That would be wonderful!" Carter said excitedly. She hadn't noticed until she lifted her hand to wipe her face that her whole body was shaking. "Would you look at that.." Carter said, looking at her wet hand and then back up.

Suddenly, she heard a voice behind her. Carter turned to see a man.
"A- a man. A person." She reached out her hand and touched his arm then quickly retracting it. Carter then laughed. It was odd, she had no reason to, but she did. 'Not alone. Not anymore.' Carter thought, gleaming at the possibility of never being alone again. "What he said." Carter said, glancing at the two, overjoyed.

@CalamariHero

@FootlongOak

Slowly, she retracted her box of crackers and continued to eat, "She didn't take the crackers..." Sinikka thought. This girl... She was exceedingly energetic. It almost made Sinikka feel uncomfortable, because she didn't know how to respond to such energy. "Yes. Don't hurt yourself. There are... four more people?" She counted the number of people in her mind, "Something like that."

From behind Carter, Sinikka heard a voice. It was certainly quite a bit lower than Carter's, and this time, a spontaneous voice from the blue didn't startle her, "Well. Eh... Sure. From what I can see, it looks like you can certainly handle yourself, and any assistance would be useful. I'm not much of a fighter." In all honesty, Sinikka couldn't see him very well.

"Well, this is pleasant," Sinikka thought, "These two seem like nice company."

'

Sinikka stood up tall, a few inches taller than Carter, but was quite a bit shorter than Frank. "If we are going to be working together, then perhaps," She said, reaching out for a handshake, "We should introduce ourselves. You may call me either Sinikka, Jinan, or Eirene."

After blowing the dog whistle he felt nervous being near the building knowing that they would swarm due to the sound. I moved towards the group at the gate an noticed a new person. "They just keep coming" I thought. The new person seemed bigger and far more of a threat then the two girls. He seemed to be in good health considering the times. The blond haired girl from before seemed to be nibbling on some crackers so I approached them. Better to not be suspicious he thought...

Chris heard the voices. They screamed bloody murder. That meant one thing: They were alerted. "OUR COVER HAS BEEN BLOWN! EVERYONE, BRACE YOURSELVES FOR COMBAT!" He looked around to see what had made noise enough to alert the house. "WHO THE FUCK ALERTED THEM?" As soon as he finished, he saw the group. About ten to fifteen infected, running viciously towards the group. "CONTACT! TEN O'CLOCK!" He pointed at the group, and backed off, waiting for them to strike.

The young girl laughed touching his arm and he looked down at her arm as she retracted it. This girl was just a tad to excited to see a non-infected human. Peering back up towards her face he could tell she had been through hell. However, if we were the first non yellow humans she encountered then she was quite lucky. Looters tended to not trust easy and would kill on sight. But then again, Frank didn't encounter many non-infected for a while now. He almost thought he was the last of everyone. Turns out that more people are still kicking then he thought. "I'd say you are lucky. Plenty of evil people out there that would kill rather then help."

Looking over he was greeted by the other female. He reached out his large hand and went to shake it softly. "A woman of many names. My name is Frank. It's a pleasure to meet you Sinikka." It had been ages since he had last talked to anyone. Sinikka seemed innocent, not really meant for this type of world. Frank could agree with her that she didn't look like the fighting type, but he wouldn't dare say that.

Looking back to the original girl he noticed the dried blood on the girls face he reached into the chest pocket on his duster and grabbed a small clean cloth. He spoke, "You got a little something.." And pointed to his face then handed the cloth to the young girl next to him.

Carter's eyes practially sparkled as she spoke. "I won't hurt myself!" She said, trying to comfort her worried. "But wow... Four others that aren't.. Those things?" Carter questioned, trying to come to reality for it. As te woman continue to speak, Carter became drawn to the words that left her mouth. In a way, they were melodic to her. Each syllable that danced upon her lips was like heaven for Carter. "Don't fret, I'm not a good fighter either." Carter seemed more calmed now, less jumpy and happy and more practical.

Carter caught onto every word the girl said.
"Which one do you preffer? I'm Catherine, but I go by Carter." She explained. 'Those are beautiful names she has.' Carter thought, suddenly cut off by her thoughts from a man approaching behind her. "Oh, he-" She was, once again, cut off by yelling.

OUR COVER HAS BEEN BLOWN! EVERYONE, BRACE YOURSELVES FOR COMBAT!

WHO THE FUCK ALERTED THEM?

CONTACT! TEN O'CLOCK!

Carter held onto her machete tight after hearing the mysterious voice yell. "Maybe we can comprimise?" She asks, trying her best to lighten the mood. Carter then glanced at the man when her heard the yelling. "Maybe we can help? Or possibly open the gates and we can hold them off from here?" She asks, trying the keep calm so that others may be calmed as well.

He looked at the girl stained in blood who seemed less energetic upon hearing the screams of the damned. "No worries I have a feeling none will approach this general area unless their eyes start working and they can see flares." he said to the three. The whistle's range was limited due to the thick walls of the building. Only the lovely residents inside heard. He wasn't worried in the least.

Lena snapped her head in Chris's direction. Sure enough, a group of infected were surging towards them. Swearing internally, her arms were up and ready to strike. When she looked over her shoulder, she could see Chris backing up. They were thinking the same thing. Chris lingered back, and she would head it up.

"
Cover me!" She called over her shoulder.

The group of infected moved closer, and she took a breath and held two knives between her fingers. They were right there now. She charged forward, making contact.

It was a blur. She connected one knife with the neck of one, the other in a stomach. Then she was on the ground, kicking out legs from the floor . As they fell, she used the heel of her boot to crush in faces with a cringe. She wasn't going to think about it now. Right now, all she could comprehend were her knives, hands, and the infected in front of her.

Hearing the alert he put the cloth back into his pocket. Thinking to his self, "Looks like it's to early to clean up." The blood covered girl mentioned holding the gate and defending here. Holding the gate would stop any of them from coming in, but it looks like they were already inside. Looking at the other male who approached as he spoke and confirmed his suspicions. It appeared the infected inside were alerted.

Frank pointed over to the building behind the fence. As he looked to the blood covered female. "That one. If we have any unwelcome guest they will be coming from inside the gate. From inside that building." Frank gave a look of confirmation to her letting her know that she could count on him for help. Looking back to the two inside the gate. "Let us in and we can help."

"Another hero another death" I thought to myself. I felt like saying no but I didn't. Instead I opened the latch to let myself outside. "Feel free to enter at your digression if you will." I taunted. I knew from the screams there was more then a mere man could handle. Maybe a group indeed could but not without suffering in turn. I could only wonder a bit if they knew how fragile the outer wall was around the estate with just the vines and their roots holding it up. A rusty gate wouldn't do much either way.

Carter turned to face the guy and gave him a small nod. "But there are some others inside the building that need help." She said to him, turning back around and looking at Frank. Carter didn't even notice him handing the cloth. "Oh, yeah." She said awkwardly before using her free hand to pull her hood back up again. She faced Frank again and looked at the building. "Right." She said.

Carter was an agreeable person. She agreed with what most said or what she thought would be the right thing to do. Although normally, Carter didn't stay where she was, she'd be already be far away from the chaos that commenced inside the building. But for some reason, she stayed. Most likely the fact that these were the only human beings she had seen in forever but then again, she felt some sort of confidence around them tat she didn't have when she was by herself.

Carter saw the gate that was infront of her slide open.
"Thank you." She said to the man. Carter was frightened. No, beyond frightened. She felt like she'd die from a eart attack any second now. "Should we go?" Carter asks, mentioning towards the screams. Her mind was telling her not to go. To just run like she's done the million of other times, but her heart told her to run. Suddenly, an idea sprung to her mind and she took off, racing towards the screams.

Carter saw the clowns.
"Those things used to be humans..." Carter thought outloud but smiled. "Hey you sickos! Fresh meat over here!" Carter yelled, taunting the clowns, hoping they'd chase after her so that she could distract them. Carter's whole body was shaking from a mixture or fear, adrenaline, and anticipation.

Side note: To Carter, the Compromised are clowns or circus freaks to her.))

Watching the gate open and the man welcome them in, he smiled and spoke in agreement with Carter, "Yep, let's make it happen." He watched Carter run inside ahead of him. Thinking to him self, "This one has spunk, I like her." Taking a tight grip of his ax he grinned and ran behind her towards the action. The fellow man seemed to not want to have anything to do with it, so Frank ran past him.

Her plan looked like to lure them out as a sort of distraction as she taunted them. She began yelling and dancing around trying to get ones attention. Although she kept cool during the whole scene, Frank could taste her fear. He could hear the subtle shakiness caused by the excitement. Frank couldn't help but think, "This small girl fighting to protect people she doesn't even know, she must have good heart."

Time for thinking was over though. A yellow skin started to make his way out the door and towards her. It seemed like the her little plan was working after all. The flaky monster pushed his head outside the door to see what all the noise was, but it was too late. Frank had already ran towards him as he anticipated the yellow beasts movement. With his ax above his head, he gave a mighty swing crashing the ax blade into monsters neck. The humanoid monster was quickly pulled to the ground with the weight of the ax. A small splatter of blood squirted as the ax smashed its head into the ground.

Pulling the ax from the ground and neck of the dead beast with a soft grunt, Frank stepped back calmly and waited for another one near the door. Keeping his eyes on the door he muttered,
"Nice job. Keep it up."

He watched as the two seemed to dance easily around the afflicted. He wondered if the group inside was dead considering some were coming from the front door he recently exited. Judging from how the afflicted were not bleeding as they walked out, at least before they met the big guy, suggested they came from another part of the house. Even though Carter seemed to be in control of her movements he could see her shaking a bit like his students during evaluation day. What he could only call a brute as he crushed the afflicteds' skulls into the dirt seemed compassionate to help others. All important details to him. He pulled out his leather journal and took his time during the chaos to write some notes about these new people.

Chris hurried to Lena's aid, hacking and slashing everyone who stood in his way. The weird blood was covering the ground, and the cloth that was covering Chris's arms were taken off, showing to the air the burn scars of his past. He raised Lena up her feet. "Are you okay? No bites?" He looked at her arms and feet. None visible. "Good, because there's more coming." Chris heard one of the survivors screaming "Hey you sickos! Fresh meat over here!" He waited for some of them to start running at the girl, and slashed their feet, making them fall. Then he proceed to maul their necks, severing it from the rest of the body. Seeing the brute with the now bloody ax, he gave a smile. "Glad finally some help arrived. Come in! There's more on the way!" He turned again to the main hall, and charged for the remaining Compromised. He couldn't help but to start thinking. What happened? Suddenly, out of nowhere, the Compromised started attacking. What in the world startled them? Chris shrugged these thoughts off and killed one more of the Compromised. "Lena, you handing yourself well there?" He called out to Lena, to see if she need some help.

Sinikka stood in the area between the front of the building and the gates, simply watching the fray before her. She kneeled down to grab her knife. "What on Earth did I get myself into?" She muttered to herself. She had no idea what to do. She clenched the handle of the knife, considering her options. She could fight, but she could be knocked down easily and dispatched. She could also run, but her chances of survival would likely drop. Not to mention, if everyone else survived, Sinikka would not be well regarded. Almost all options had some form of potentially bad outcome.

As Sinikka was lost in thought, she was attack by one of the infected on her right, knocking her prone. She had tried fruitlessly to guard with her forearm. With all of her might, she swung the knife blade in an attempt to sever the neck of the infected being. She had put no mind into remorse. She barely recognized it as living. The knife blade collided into the creatures neck, cutting straight through the spinal cord, and hitting Sinikka's right forearm, cutting deep. The creature went cataplectic, and Sinikka crawled out from under the infected being. She dropped her knife and put pressure on the deep cut in her forearm. She certainly was not accustomed to fighting or injury.

As he was writing in the journal heard a yelp of pain. Only a few feet away from the gate the girl Sinikka was jumped by one of the Compromised. "I forgot about her." he thought. He considered helping but it ended in a few seconds. She crawled out from under the limb body breathing heavily it seemed, covered in dirt. He saw blood pouring steadily form her fore arm. The others two were still occupied. I looked towards her and said " I hope none of the infected blood entered your wound little missy". I wasn't too worried. It takes a while for someone to turn. It was not his choice to decide if she was or not. He continued writing.

Sinikka was kneeling on the ground, hoping, no, praying that none of the blood entered the wound. "Don't worry, Sinikka. It's fine. You've done just fine thus far." She thought, trying to calm herself. "So long as the blood didn't enter the wound, I should be alright. Even if the blood got in the wound, maybe the injury interrupted the circulation, preventing the virus from spreading and becoming a threat. And even if the knife already had something on it, it would probably be inert. The most I would get from the knife would be an infection." Sinikka thought frantically. Even in the dilapidated environment, Sinikka rarely felt true sadness, worry, or fear, but now she was panicking for her life. The injury itself, she knew, was likely not life threatening. Stop the bleeding and prevent and or treat any oncoming infection. But the virus. If the virus had entered her bloodstream at any noteworthy concentration, she'd be a goner. She let her wound bleed for for a few seconds, hoping that any infected blood that entered the wound would bleed out. However, She was no doctor. She didn't know if this would even work or not, it was just her being hopeful. After the wound bled for what she deemed to be long enough, she applied a tight grip to her wound, now trying to stop the flow of blood.

He looked towards the hampered Sinikka. He felt a sense of pity as I would for an animal. "She isn't good at handling pressure." he thought. He thought long term keeping her alive would have a plus."As long as you return the favor I can ensure you won't be infected as it were little miss." he said. "Do we have deal perhaps? he questioned. "If so come here quickly." he said in a harsh tone.

Sinikka whipped her head to the side, hearing Mitch's offer. She thought for a moment, "If it has any chance of helping, I must act, no matter the consequence." Sinikka stood and swiftly made her way out of the fray and over to the fence where Mitch was. "Whatever you have, if it can help, I will take it. We have a deal. I am not ready to die yet." Sinikka spoke. She could see there was something that she couldn't trust. His description of returning the favor would likely be something big. Perhaps something to regret. But Sinikka was adamant, and determined to live no matter the cost. She didn't even request to know what the favor may entail. Sinikka was clenching her wound tight, still trying to slow the flow of blood as blood lightly dripped through her fingers.

Hearing footsteps, Frank knew someone was nearing the door. Gripping his ax tightly he readied his body for another swing. However, a younger male ran out of the building and welcomed the help. Frank relaxed his attack pose and calmed his stance. The boy ran back inside to continue the fight and motioned to follow. As Frank was about to follow he noticed Sinikka crawling out from a dead corpse and appeared to be a bit of a panic. Looking towards the other male he just continued to read or write in his journal. Worthless.

In order to stop the onslaught he would need to go in and help clear the building. But it would be pointless to let them stay undefended outside. Frank decided to let the others continue the fight inside the building while he would help defend the people outside. The individuals outside seemed to have little fighting expertise and were in need.

He began running towards the male and Sinikka when he noticed another yellow skin climbing over the wall. Looking back to Sinikka he realized the male and her were finally talking. It seems the man must of ended his book and realized we were fighting. About time. If he could help her then he could deal with the extra monster on the wall. Changing direction, Frank sprinted towards the yellow skin on the wall. Frank arrived at the wall while the beast was still attempting to climb down. Grabbing it by leg he ripped the monster from the wall causing it to come crashing down to the ground. As the flaky human looked up to see what pulled him down, Frank shoved the hilt of his ax into the skull of the monster crushing it. Softly speaking he said, "That makes two".

He felt a grin grow upon his face but quickly gained composure at how this was going. "Well holding infected blood against your wound isn't the smartest idea to start off with." he mocked. He moved Sinikka's hand off the wound to inspect it. The cut dug slightly into the muscle, but the blood it released was of pure red. "Well then time to begin." he said. From his backpack he pulled out a small small steel cube with the letters GT printed on it, though they have faded form fiction in the bag. The outside was rugged but once he opened it the inside was composed of polished steel. Inside it held three glass needles filled with an unknown liquid and on the side sat a device that was only as tall as your middle finger and just as slender with a polished metal encasing with a sharp metal protrusion on top that was none inviting.

He pulled it gently out as one would hold a child. "You don't see these much anymore." he said proudly. "Well promise that you will keep your side of the bargain and I promise you that I can ensure that you will not rot like so much of the world." he said strictly. "Swear to me Ms. Sinakka" he said with tainted breath looking down at her.

Raising his gun Mika shot at the compromised taking down a few. Thankful for the silencer he had on his gun he ducked back behind the wall he had been hiding behind and reloaded his gun. If this continues I'm going to run out of bullets. Then again I can always use my bat. Grimacing as he realized that he would need to do that or risk running out of bullets and sheathing his gun grabbed his bat where it layed in the golf bag on his back. He had picked it up in the last town but didn't use it much since honestly up close and personal wasn't his favorite way to fight. To much blood. Standing he began helping the others taking down the compromised noticing some of them were distracted. Damn you big heart why didn't I run when I had the chance?

'This is the dumbest idea you have ever had...' Carter thought to herself, doubt filling her head as she continued to distract them. She then saw Frank come into the room and start to slash at them. 'Oh, thank god..' Carter thought, reassuring herself that she'd be alright. The others that were in to room started to kill the clowns as well. 'I'm starting to think that this group is going to be good.' She thought, continuing to spout nonsense to the diseased corpses. "Come at me you diabolic pieces of shit!" Carter yelled with more confidence this time.

Carter didn't notice Sinikka go down at first. In fact, she didn't even notice that she came in in the first place. Carter didn't notice the man from earlier come in either. But she noticed it when she yelped. Carter's attention was then drawn to Sinikka.
'Blood. Bit? Injury? Cut?' Carter furrowed her eyebrows, worried. Sinikka was talking to the male now. 'Maybe I should go talk to them... She doesn't seem okay.' Carter contemplated. 'Make it safe first.' Carter thought as she continued to distract them.
