Backstory:
Born to a German couple in the homeland, Friedrich grew up rather well under the wing of his surgeon father and real estate selling mother. He was raised with good food, comfortable home and the best teaching that money could buy. And yet something off about the child. From a young age onward he was distant and cold, staying quiet and tucked away as often as he could. It scared his parents so much that they requested the help of doctors and, as they'd feared, it was worse than just an anti-social streak.
This never stopped him from being just fine in non-social fields however. He was almost exclusively private schooled and there he accelerated, on par with college level material in his early high school days. Despite his severe unease he eventually took after his father and began taking medical classes for college, graduating top of his class and landing a job rather quickly. While not 'world renowned', he became one of the top surgeons and doctors in the region despite a lack of bedside manners or overall social grace.
In his mid twenties he made the decision to leave home and move to America where he landed another job and gained the same mix of respect and ridicule as he'd had before. The country's ease on firearms eventually landed him with owning his own handgun and finding it one of very few hobbies that he could get into after work. He had a pleasant enough life... until the T103 hit.
Being a doctor meant being one of the first to hear about the new outbreak. He saw plenty of the first wave of infected rush to his hospital and was fascinated by the whole ordeal. Studying the virus became a short lived past time before the violence started. A few innocents in other wings of the hospital made him start bringing him gun to work and before he knew it he was getting use out of it. Everyone who wasn't dying was going feral and ever so slowly the social structure of the world began to erode.
For the first time in his life he felt his emotional distance was an advantage rather than a condition that plagued him. If it wasn't fear that made people shake, it was the nerves of killing another person. Friedrich's aim never wavered. Even if his survival skills were subpar, he'd long since detached himself from the world crumbling around him. The compromised were simply a danger. There was no reason to hesitate if another sane human tried to hurt him. He lost more sleep over how dirty he was more so than the live he'd taken along the way.
A few months of hunkering down followed by occasional wandering lead him slowly to the safe house. While social interaction is something he could do without, the odds of surviving with more hands was something he couldn't doubt. Maybe the sound of other voices and a place to do something productive would outweigh the silence he'd gotten so use to.
Personality:
In a word, Friedrich is stoic. His presence is almost nonexistent as he avoids social interaction with anyone outside of what's needed. He rarely has a desire to speak to others and seems more at home by himself, seemingly more comfortable with isolation than anything else. He's next to impossible to shake, more annoyed by non-life threatening hardships and shrugging off negative or positive feelings others may direct at him. He's quiet and focused, able to get a job done in record time if he has the know how and no distractions. He's more particular about his environment than he is about the people around him, tending to clean and stack things in a particular way and quickly fixing anything that's displaced.
