From a gameplay perspective you don't need to ask, just join the luxuries guild. From a character point though you should totally send some people. It'd be interesting to see the two groups interact and mixed species projects have always had interesting results in the past.
The Finecians want to resolve tensions and take a different approach by trying to integrate themselves into the colony fully, spreading roots if you will. More profitable that way. Weeds you could call them.
