Fantasy Beast Souls of Taman - accepting

Name: Xaman'Ek
Form: Human
Place: Burning Tavern
Two steps left. Strike. Dodge. Two steps back. Wait. Dodge. Xaman'Ek fought in alternating bursts of movement and stillness just hoping to delay the arachnid. Dodge. Parry. Wait. The chitinous armor was too thick to pierce. The weak-spots. The eyes, mouth, and joints were hidden behind clicking fangs and thick hairy legs. Strike. Dodge. The creature was quick. It lurched forward to duck sideways. The erratic movement hid the joints and eyes. The venomous fangs forced Xaman'Ek to keep his distance. Another step back. Flames started to curl around the sides of the hallway. The tribesman didn't have much longer. The spider lunged forward, fangs speeding toward the man's heart.

The creature shrieked in pain as it's momentum pulled short. An arrow had buried itself in the rightmost eye. The hind legs were cut off at the joint as a short-spear pierced it's front. Acid slowly poured from the wounds like pitch, burning all it touched. Xaman'Ek nodded his thanks. Pulling his spear from the carcass, he surveyed the battlefield in an instant. Massive White Bears wielding flame fought alongside red and white Avians to force the spiders away. The furred ones, reptiles, and all manner of warmbloods fled through the opening they had provided. Suddenly there was a deep crash as the burning building began to collapse. Xaman'Ek's vision snapped from the flames to the warriors that saved him.

"Outside. Now."

The Atheris was already running.

Elena peaked her head up; there was now a proper reason for why the fire had become so prominent - it was being used very effectively against the eight-legged creatures that were assailing the establishment. Despite this, it appeared that even some of the mightier warriors were struggling with the chitinous hides of the enemy. The fox's earlier assessment was correct - she wouldn't be helpful in the fighting here. Her thoughts were quickly interrupted when an avian spirit crashed near her, cradling a young mammal in its claws. Elena waited, watching it, trying to see if it would move. It was unconscious, as was the boy, or at least she didn't think it was conscious: no point in helping them if they didn't remember who saved them.

Her eyes snapped back to the fighting - more had joined the fray, possibly with the worst amount of timing as the fire intensified. The building itself seemed to be creaking and straining and Elena wasn't very much interested in staying around when the tavern finally decided to collapse; the hilltop would be ideal for a relocation, and as the warriors returned, if she made herself useful, then they would surely have a very positive opinion of her. One last factor would hammer this home.
The fox scurried across to the fallen vulture and the young raccoon. She crouched down and scooped up the young mammal from the vulture's grasp, carrying the boy in both arms. Only then did she discover that the bird was still alive. Elena didn't stop however, and she ran as fast as she could back towards the hilltop. The wounded that she had saved were seeing to themselves and Elena didn't want to disturb them from their vital work. She did want to make sure her charity reaped the biggest benefit it could, though.

Gently laying out the child, she wrapped him in her cloak to keep him warm. However, she distanced him from the fire; she could only assume that being in a burning building didn't exactly constitute a favourable opinion of it and she didn't want the child to panic when he woke up.
Elena sat beside the boy, looking at the assembled warriors and then at the unconscious mammal with an almost motherly expression - it was part of her facade, but it was convincing nonetheless. She glanced up and, mentally, she was grinning; the wounded she had saved held only sympathy and thanks in their faces: with any luck, one of them would be of some high esteem, but if none of them were of societal importance it didn't matter, she would be paid back eventually - she would make sure of it.

Name : Zhihan
Form : Human -> Anthro
Place : Tavern inside -> outside
Thankfully, her archery skills had not gotten rusty in the time she'd forgotten to take up the bow and practice. The arrow stayed true and pierced into one of the multiple eyes of the arachnid, buying enough time for the man to finish the creature off. Breathing a sigh of relief, Zhihan surveyed the battlefield around them. Despite having just joined, the fight was almost at its end as most of the monsters had escaped from the flames. If not, then the tavern would bring a swift and burning end to the struggle. The man was shouting orders for them to get out and, by the looks of things, everyone shared his thoughts. The people around them began evacuating, finishing off their own fights and going off to help others. She too turned to help the wounded and weakened.

The warriors as a united mass, made for the safety of the outside and, thankfully in no time, almost everyone was out, save for a few who were helping the stragglers. Zhihan was helping lay down one of the more heavily wounded when one of the shrine maidens approached her, wrapping her up in a tight embrace. "Thank Ameta I couldn't find you so I thought..." the other girl said, pressing her face into her fellow crane's shoulder. In seconds, the cloak of her dress was wet with tears.

Zhihan returned the embrace, heart still thumping from adrenaline and hot from the flames.
"Meiyi... I too thought I had lost you..." she said softly, eyes closed tight, "Thank Ameta indeed. I am so glad that you are both-" her eyes opened to look around but she could not find what she wanted to see. Hesitantly, she questioned, "Where is Taili?"

"Oh don't worry, she is alright," Meiyi spoke softly, pulling back so that she could look at her friend. "She's just gone back to help with the last few people, she should be out in a moment."

A sense of relief washed over Zhihan like cool water and she slowly got to her feet, "Good... come lets go help her. The tavern will collapse at any minu-" Her words were cut off by a loud, resounding crack amidst the roaring of flames. Turning, she watched as the tavern seemed to shake like a fiery monster coming to life against the darkening sky... and then it all came crashing down, collapsing in on itself in a hellish inferno.

She was screaming and running and crying and calling, trying to reach the burning flames but there were arms around her, leaving her unable to move. Even as wings burst from her back in her frantic and desperate struggle to save her friend, her body was tired and weak from the fight and she could not even pull off Meiyi. But she could hear her, hear them all crying for help... everyone who was trapped and left behind. Their screams resounded and echoed in her head, in the heads of all the warriors. However, there was nothing they could do and she knew that.

So in the end, all she could do was give up on struggling and surrender to the pain and the tears.

Ayize - Burning tavern ruins - Anthro -> Human

Ayi braced himself for a second confrontation with the large, gaping maw of another spider, when an arrow ( Dominaiscna Dominaiscna ) forced the creature back, jutting from it's eye as a black rivulet poured forth onto the floor.
Only a few more minutes of fighting and the spiders were beginning to cow.
Ayi had thought of leaving moments ago, but until now the beasts had blocked the only fire-free exit. If he had tried to leave they would have surely caught him. Just then A shape hit the earth at the entrance ( BugDozer73 BugDozer73 ), a shower of silver poured into the ranks of the beasts and Ayi could hear them hissing in pain. Then the hawk warrior fanned his wings and sparks flew, catching in the delicate hairs of the spiders, some even blossoming into new red flames.
Between that and the relentless onslaught provided by the serpent warrior ( Onikmey Onikmey ) , bolstered by fire from a bow ( Dominaiscna Dominaiscna ) the remaining spiders turned and fled as best they could, some limping with wounded legs, others streaming plumes of fire as they disappeared into the pitch-black landscape.
The remaining bodies, curled in upon themselves and slashed badly began to dissolve, but Ayi did not wait around to see what happened to them, as his new serpent ally called for a swift exodus, Ayi was all too happy to oblige.
He helped the wounded with the other warriors and together with the others, they managed to evacuate most from the place before it fell in upon itself and went up in a storm of sparks and flame.

Ayi watched grimly as the building wreckage burned. His muzzle awash with the harsh orange light. Even from a distance he could feel the heat of the blaze begin to curl his fur...what in Ameta's eye had happened?
Ayi would come to dwell on that for a long while after, but for now there were wounded that needed his skills. he turned to face the people who had helped them, some stepped, some not, a wide array of different tribes, all joined in one common effort. He took a moment to reflect on that and it made him smile.
"I owe you and your companions a debt." He said to Xaman ( Onikmey Onikmey ) once the serpent warrior had a moment free. He bowed his head respectfully, with a hand over his heart.
"My name is Ayize. I am a healer from Simbali. I will be close by, but I must beg your leave, there are many wounded I can help."
He made a mental note to find the hawk warrior who had cleared the path for them, without him many might not have made it out of the building before it fell.

For now however, he turned to the fox woman, bent over the form of a young man ( Baconhands Baconhands & Larke Larke ). Ayi's first patient if he permitted it. He checked vital signs and scanned him for wounds, seeing nothing like bite marks he concluded smoke inhalation the cause of ailment.
"When he wakes, have him chew these." Ayi handed the fox several dried leaves from a pouch. "The vapours should clean his lungs and help purge his blood of the smoke toxin."
With a resolute nod he turned to attend to other wounded.
The spider's venom was unlike anything he had ever seen before. The wounds seeped with black, sticky liquid and the victims began to show signs of pain throughout their entire bodies. The ones who had received the largest doses were having trouble drawing breath.
Ayi did what he could using the limited herbs and elixirs he had brought with him.

It was only then did he notice, above the groans and cries of pain that the crane maiden was crying out to the ruins of the inn. Someone had been trapped inside. His heart tightened as he listened to her. Distant memories floating to the surface of his mind. Fire was merciless. ( Dominaiscna Dominaiscna )

"Get the wounded back to our camp!" The polar bear boomed, directing his forces to obey. "Set up a perimeter, I want a watch for the rest of the night. Anyone who can splint a limb report to the dog! He's the healer in charge!"
The polar bear had only a light scratch on his forearms and a dent in his detailed armour plating. He turned to a somewhat taken aback Ayize, who was not used to being in charge of anything.
"What do you need?" The bear asked him.
"What everyone can do is remove any clothing that has been touched by the creature's blood." He held up the end of his red robe as it smoked and sizzled even as it disintegrated. "It is...highly corrosive. Also anyone who knows about venom I would like to speak to. I think I have a way to stay the toxin, but it will require fresh supplies, I need at least two to fetch them from the woods."
The Byernheim general nodded. "Everyone hear that? The rest of you, stoke the campfires, boil water and tear up any spare cloth for slings and bandages. Our camp as of right now is a medical camp to treat the wounded here."
Ayi cut the acid-eaten tip of his robe away with his herb knife, leaving a sizable piece missing, though nothing that would render him indecent. He then set about making and administering antidotes for the worst-afflicted, hoping that someone would come to him asking what he needed from the forest.

As soon as he had done what he could for the moment, his attention turned back to the crane maiden. He approached her tentatively, slipping back into his human form and putting a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"I am truly sorry," and this he said with all his heart. ( Dominaiscna Dominaiscna )

Name: Xiao Guang Fen
Place: Mountain path >> Imperial hall >> Tavern
Form: animal >> human

The small snow leopard padded through the imperial city streets as she caught a few people’s attention it was rare to catch one of the snow leopard people in the imperial city. The tribe was not official under the control of the panda emperor but instead had an alliance with him. The small leopard that was Guang Fen was running late as her journey had taken a lot longer then realised, The mountain path she had used to travel to the city was covered in a knee deep snow so the journey was time consuming and tiring so the young women wasn’t exactly in the best of moods.

The young leopard jumped up each of the stone stairs until she reached the top where she focused for a few minutes before finally transforming back into her human self. Guang Fen walked up to the official who was about to walk away but she caught him just in time “I’m here for the mission.” Guang Fen said a new found enthusiasm in her voice but the official looked the young women up and down before speaking “Sorry, We have all the warriors we need.” He says with a curt tone as Guang Fen’s happy smile turned to a frown in a split second. She then blocked his path so he couldn’t leave “Listen here, I’ve been travelling all day to get here and I’m not going to be turned away by a pompous ass like you so sign me up and we won’t have a problem.” Guang Fen said so furiously that the man just nodded. He took her name where she was from and what skills she possessed “You May go in and see the emperor now.” He says, Guan Fen thanked him as she turned on her heels and headed in through the tall arch into the imperial hall.

Guang Fen was absolutely stunned by the beauty and the size of the place as she couldn’t keep her eyes off the incredibly detailed ceiling as it looked like it has been hand painted with gold paint. Guang Fen certainly looked out of place in the brightly coloured imperial palace. The girl was still wearing the thick coat, cotton trousers and thick snow boots that helped keep the cold out during her long journeys but in this palace her attire made her stick out like a sore thumb. Guang Fen spotted the Panda Emperor as he was just like she had pictured, he looked like a wise and collected man and Guang Fen walked through the hall along the long red carpet up the the emperors lavish throne. The wise man scanned her face but Guang Fen looked at his long red robe as it looked so soft and comfortable. “A young women from the Snow Leapord tribe.” The emperor spoke as Guang Fen just nodded her head as she looked up at him. “Punctuality has never been a strong suit of yours.” He says but Guang Fen just laughs nervously but emperor soon gave him the blessing and Guang Fen bowed respectfully with a huge smile on her face as she headed out of the imperial hall asking a guard where the others had gone and he pointed to the tavern upon a hill top and Guang Fen began running her large ruck sack shaking as she ran as her two swords which attached to the back of her large back clanged together.

Guang Fen’s power walking soon had her at the bottom of the hill but something just didn’t seem right so she picked up her pace walking up the hill faster than any normal human but this small burst of speed ran out. She was about halfway up the hill before she had to carry on at a normal human pace but soon enough she was at the top of the hill. The tavern in question was now just a heap of rubble but something also caught Guang Fen’s attention. She spotted some sort of arachnid walking straight towards a man who had his back turned to the creature. Guang Fen reached to her back grabbing onto the handles of her Yanmoadao as she pulled them from their sheaths as the young women spun them around before she took off running towards the arachnid not a sign of mercy on her face.

The monster was just about to attack when Guang Fen kicked the creature stunning it and before it could regain its composure Guang Fen violently rammed both of her swords through the creatures head, She used so much force that the silver blade came out of the other side of the creature. The creature was flailing still and so the young women twisted the swords until the creature finally went limp. She pulled her swords out of the creature as a black liquid coated the blades but she then looked to the man “You should really be more observant.” Guang Fen teased slightly. She used her glove to wipe off the black liquid her swords as she then stood next to the man looking out on the scene of what was going on before them. “This place is chaos.” She says but with a glint of excitement still visible in her brown eyes “I’m Guang Fen from the Snow Leapord Tribe, what’s your name?” She asked with a smile.

Shikoba: Above tavern escape route>>Hill top: Anthro>Animal>human

Shikoba flapped hard, hovering just above the entrance, sparks blustering under his wingbeats. He pointed towards the hills, shouting at the warriors limping out through the hole to flee. While most of the venomous spiders fled towards the woods, several arachnids not content with defeat ventured towards the injured warriors fleeing. Shikoba shrieked and let several more throwing knives loose, all finding their ways into the leg joints of the approaching tendrils. The spiders hissed in more pain and backed off, clearing more room for the wounded.

"Everyone run!" He shrieked, trying to usher them along. Shikoba looked down to see a green serpent slither through the hole, and for a moment was filled with rage ( Onikmey Onikmey ). He reached for a blade to launch, but before he could grip one a loud crack echoed from behind him, and he turned just in time to see the building cave, timbers and planks collapsing into the inferno. The flames erupted from the once establishment, sending blasts of hot air out in all directions, peppered with coals and ash. Shikoba was thrown back into the sky by the blast, spiraling helplessly.

For a moment, he felt nothing, saw nothing, just listened to the wind whistle around him as he fell. In a moment, his eyes fluttered open, and he saw the ground hurtling towards him. His heart beat began to race, but he kept his composure, with years of cliff diving giving him a rigid board with which to keep his mind and body steady. He stepped into his animal form, shrinking down a hawk and beginning to twirl, until about 40 ft up he opened his wings and soared over the land, zipping over the field of fire, rubble and bodies. He glided up to the top of the hill a ways away from the amassing forces after the attack, and stepped back into his human form, landing with a roll. He stood and dusted himself off, removing a small layer of soot and embers. He took a moment and watched as the people hustled around, treating the wounded and moving supplies. He could hear the moans over the battlefield of the unattended, and despite his own discomfort with the large group, he knew they would need his help.

Shikoba noticed a large man pointing around and shouting orders, next to one of the warriors who had exited the tavern: Some sort of dog, probably from Simbali, guessing from his garb. As Shikoba prepared to take off, a shriek came from behind him, sending a chill through his body. Quickly he whipped around and found a warrior woman plunging two blades deep into the side of a rogue spider, no doubt trying to kill him. He hadn't even heard it approach, and had it not been for her vigilance, he would be dead. Shikoba exhaled, relief flooding his features, and he smiled at the woman who he now owed his life ( wendy wendy ).

"My name is Shikoba, and I am from the Hawk tribe in Thuehir." He smiled at the cat, gripping her hand in friendship.
"You're right. The place is in a panic. No doubt the others could use some help. Come on, I could use someone watching my back." He shot playfully, before jumping, fluidly stepping into a hawk and taking off towards the bear and dog.

Luruke :: Fully stepped :: Tavern ruins

Fire, he was on fire...

When are you coming back, Khabo?

A little raccoon boy, a little sister...

Bring me back something nice, yeah?

Head pounding, heart pounding...

This wasn't what it was supposed to be like

This was-

Luruke gave a shuddering gasp. His eyes flew open, but he was only looking for one thing. He clutched his talons frantically. Where was the boy? There was a strange taste in his mouth, and there was a harsh burning in his lungs as he drew breath, but his head was as clear as jumping into an icy river would have made it. The pounding in his head was gone. He rolled to stand up and ruffled his wings, forcing panic down. He did not recognize the place he now found himself in. The sky was beginning to lighten, the spiders were gone, and all around him was a veritable encampment of wounded, with orders being shouted by bears. There were long, distant wails. Luruke looked behind him and there, in its final death throes, was the burning tavern. It was unrecognizable. The curved roof and balconies were nowhere to be found, and all had turned into coal black, crumbling firewood fodder. Some time seemed to have past, but not too much. Thus oriented, Luruke preened a feather into place, heart rate stabilizing. He scanned more carefully this time, and found the little boy being tended to by a fox.

Ah, seems that all's well with him. He turned away, wondering what next. Suddenly, his disturbing dream came back to him.

I came here to see the world. It seems... It seems to be very different than what I had imagined. He shook his head, the realization coming to him slowly but unforgivingly.

I was so naïve. We all were. None of us knew... And I had thought to explore the world. For them. I was excited.

Now he was lost. Adrift. What was he to do now? He thought of his Ammi, his Yaelei, but most of all, the guidance of his Najii. What was he supposed to tell them?

He noticed a dog of some sort ( SilverFlight SilverFlight ) next to a white and red crane ( Dominaiscna Dominaiscna ) . They stood apart from the rest. Luruke stepped forward uncertainly, and then decided, jumping into a smooth glide over to them, despite his singed wing tips. He shuffled his feet as he fluttered to a halt, addressing them with a nod. His thoughts were a mess, but one question burned amidst it all.

"These spiders... have you seen them before?" He hesitated. "Was the world always like this?"

Mikal Kae
Form - Human
Location - Hilltop outside of the tavern
Speech - Common/Native

Mikal was shocked when the creatures blood spewed from it's wound and began eating away at the floor around it. It was doing the same to his blade, but at a slower rate, thankfully. His eyes scanned the tavern for any other fighters that needed assistance, but found none. The spiders were being killed off one by one until no more stood. As their corpses began to curl in on themselves another enemy became more evident, the flames. The building was gradually being engulfed by the fire. The warrior he had assisted was ordering them to get out, but there were still people inside. Mikal had seen it as his purpose to ensure their safety, so he stayed in side the tavern and ushered the wounded out along with several other fighters. After helping a some of the patrons to their feet, Mikal believed everyone was out. It was then that he took notice to another one in the building. She was trapped by burning supports, her red and white robes singed and tears in her eyes as she screamed for help. As Mikal ran closer, another support fell, blocking his path completely. The tavern was collapsing, there was no stopping it, but all he needed was a few more minutes. His mind raced, trying to think of ways to get to her and get out. More beams fell. He would soon be trapped as well. His lungs burned as he breathed in the smoky air, his eyes feeling a similar sensation. He couldn't save her. Reluctantly, he whipped around as the building began to cave. He ran for the exit, and just before the tavern fell, he came hurtling out of the entrance.

Once he found his feet, he looked back at the remnants of the tavern with teary eyes as he backed away from the blazing fires. He let out a shout as he threw one of his weapons to the ground. He was so close, yet too far to rescue the woman from the flames that were eating away at the building. Deep down, Mikal felt as if he could have, but he knew there was no way. He picked up his weapon and returned it to it's sheath. He looked over the crowd of weary, injured, and distraught warriors and patrons that escaped. Among them, he spotted a few of those that were fighting off the spiders. The person that caught his attention the most was a woman wearing similar robes to that of the one inside. Surely the two were close as she tried to charge into the smoldering pile that was the tavern, but another was holding her back. Mikal felt that he needed to give his condolences.

He started towards her, coughing slightly on the way. His lungs were still ablaze from the hot smoke, and they would probably be that way for quite some time. The pain was nowhere near what the red and white robed woman must have been feeling though as she was burdened with mourning the loss of her friend. As he approached he could see she was already accompanied by another. The man was trying to comfort her. Good, because she needed it. He would have to speak to her later if he could, but for now he would help out the rest. Mikal went to a nearby hill where a woman was tending to some of those that got out. Two people were better than one, so he went to help her. He climbed the hill and approached the woman. "Thank you for getting them out of there" he said gratefully. He looked over the group the woman had gathered. They all seemed grateful as well.

The tavern fell; it had been only a matter of time before it did and apparently that time was much sooner than anyone expected it would be. She watched it fall - a twinge of sorrow passed through her that was quickly replaced by silent contemplation: surely it would only get worse from here. Was this amount of risk to her own life worth any reward? Gently, she tapped her coin purse and her mind was set at ease; all gold mines had a risk of collapsing, and if this turned out how she wanted it to, this would be the best kind of gold mine. One that not only dealt in material wealth but also in emotional wealth that would see all that had risked themselves brought to a higher sect of society.
Her muses were interrupted by one of the warriors. When he approached, he gave her brief instructions and some dried leaves. Elena nodded, her expression not changing. The medic moved away soon after and almost immediately the fox realized her situation; she needed to move this responsibility on to somebody else before the child woke up. Elena hadn't spotted any raccoons, this young boy was likely an orphan now, either because the creatures killed them or because the fire got them. Regardless, there was no way this would end well for either of them if Elena was forced to take any proper care of him.
Another interruption. This one was a thanks. The fox looked up at him; she hadn't saved this one, the thanks was for rescuing the ones she had saved.
"It's my pleasure," she said quietly. Standing, she met his gaze. He had been in the fighting, it was clear to see; Elena wondered if she had appropriated funds from him.
When she next spoke, she had a gentle smile on her lips and her expression became faintly optimistic. She bowed her head slightly, "I'm Elena."

Name : Zhihan
Form : Anthro -> Human
Place : Outside
For a while, both cranes cried together, letting out mournful calls at the darkening sky. However, soon Meiyi left Zhihan by herself, hoping to find some wounded to help patch up. She wanted to keep her mind busy while her fellow clansmen remained kneeling in the sand and dust, head bowed. They both had their own ways of mourning for their passed friend and coping with their loss.

For the remainder of the time, Zhihan was left in peace, wings folded protectively around her. Though she no longer cried out loud, silent tears trickled down her face. She closed her eyes, trying to block off the outside world. The sounds of people around her seemed to become meaningless noise in the background as her mind tried to focus back on what they would do next. Truth be told, she was grateful for the rowdiness that served as both a distraction and as a way for her to clear her mind and bring back a calm, logical thought process.

Lifting her head slightly, Zhihan sat back onto her feet, transforming back to a full human. She raised one hand to wipe away at her wet cheeks, opening her eyes to the burning ruins before her. Even as she watched, she felt her eyes sting... but convinced herself that it was just the smoke, steeling herself against crying anymore. She had a duty and that was to wait for the flames to die down completely. She would have to pray for Tule to bestow upon her the power to send off the souls of the dead. The dance of ashes was customarily performed by the highest ranking priest or priestess on site so the responsibility would fall to her. She knew she'd have to perform it one day... but to know that one of the dead was Tai-

A hand on her shoulder brought Zhihan back to attention. She tensed slightly under his touch but otherwise did not move or speak as she listened to his words. She swallowed and opened her mouth to speak, but the crane maiden found no words. Instead, she briefly nodded before turning to look over her shoulder at the stranger. He was one of the men who was fighting with them amidst the flames. She met his gaze and held it, studying his eyes. They reflected genuine empathy, as if he too had lost a dear one to the flames, and reflected the same sorrow that filled hers. He had meant what he said.

Again she nodded as her tongue still failed her. With much effort, Zhihan managed a calm yet sad smile, doing her best to push down all that she was feeling inside. "...we were bound to return to the earth one day" the crane finally said softly with words that seemed to be, more than anything else, consolation and reassurance for herself, "..but thank you. It is reassuring to know I am not alone."

The beating of wings and the sound of a male's voice brought her attention to the fast approaching of what she thought was another man... but rather bearded vulture. He had made a beeline straight for them and Zhihan felt that he seemed a little.. out of it. The faint smell of herbs was on his breathe and matched a similar scent that came from the man behind her. Perhaps they knew each other or were some how connected?

Wiping her eyes, she looked up at Ayize curiously to see if he knew the vulture.

Ayi recognized the grief on her face. He knew that no words would be able to ease her pain, still, he resolved to keep a close watch on her if they should continue on the journey together.
His attention was drawn by the young vulture tribe member, now awake and on his feet.
"Well, good to see you have rejoined the living. You had me worried for a moment. have you taken the medicine I provided?" Ayize gave him a warm smile.
"I noticed you saved that young boy, the raccoon. That was a very brave thing to do, aside from attacking those hideous creatures as you did." The admiration was clear in the wild dog man's voice, however his smile faded when Luruke asked about the spiders.
"As far as my travels have told me, the wise men and women of many tribes have not seen or heard of the like ever in remembering. These creatures are new, or else extremely old. I wish I could tell you more than that."
Ayi had thoughts about the creatures, dark thoughts of where they had come from...how they were made, but the idea was so terrible he dared not speak it aloud. Not here. Not yet.
"Our camp is nearby, the polar bear tribesman there is the leader of a small company, he will provide you with food and shelter for the night if you wish. The rolls will be thin, but it is better than sleeping on cold ground."
The invitation was for the pair of them, and likely would be extended to all who needed it. In times of crisis the bears were pragmatic, and did not withhold needed help.

Luruke :: Fully stepped :: Forest by tavern ruins

Luruke paced on his perch, hidden in the foliage of a small tree. The conversations from earlier replayed in his head.

The wild dog had smiled at him warmly, and asked if he'd taken the medicine. He must have, for that would explain the taste in his mouth. He did feel better. One of the healers must have given it to him.

But what stuck with him most of all was the man's next words.
"As far as my travels have told me, the wise men and women of many tribes have not seen or heard of the like ever in remembering. These creatures are new, or else extremely old. I wish I could tell you more than that."
The words left a sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach. He heard little of what the man said after that. After thanking him for his information, he quickly flew off, his head full of the implications of what it could mean. After asking around a bit, he came to a few conclusions.

For one, the spiders were a force to be recognized. He had thought it just like taking down any other sort of prey, but that was soon disproven. For another, the people gathered here were not simple customers of the tavern, but fighters and mercenaries, there for a single purpose. The emperor had called them to fight the darkness.

The wild dog's words had been both comforting and frightening. The world had not in fact always had to fight the spiders, so there was still a chance for Luruke to see the world that he had wanted to see. But the thought that none knew where they came from, these creatures sweeping over towns in a single night, did not sit well with him. Were they living creatures at all, with blood of acid, who disintegrated when they died?

Moreover, his sense of foreboding had only grown, to where he could no longer ignore it. For so long, his tribe had lived in seclusion, but with what he had heard and seen, it might be no longer. Images of Ammi overlapped with those of the poisoned warriors that he saw before him. Fear and resolve stood side by side, both feeding the other. He could not allow this darkness to touch his tribe.

What had that man said again? And then he remembered.

Khabo will bring back something nice for everyone, and more. I promise.

He shifted on his perch, spread his wings, and flew off to find the polar bear.

NAME: Xaman'Ek
FORM: Human
PLACE: Polar Bear Medical Camp
Xaman'Ek approached the small crowd that had gathered around the Simbali named Ayize. He stopped a few paces back, bowing his head in respect.

"Forgive me for intruding shasan," he said quietly. "I am told that you asked for me."

Ayize turned when he heard the snake tribesman speak. He knew from his travels that those under the serpent were great healers and knowledgeable about many poisons.

"I am grateful for your help. What can you make of the venom those creatures had? The beasts are not like anything I have ever seen, but their shape reminds me of a spider we have in my homeland. The cure for it is a root from a particular type of tree and luckily for us there is a version of it that grows in each region."

Ayi took a stick and in the dust by one of the campfires he drew the outline of the leaf.
"This is how you can recognize it. I seem to recall passing several on my way to the capital, however it may not be enough. What would you propose? Perhaps combining our methods would yield better results." Xaman'Ek studied the sketch, commiting it to memory.

"I'll take some of our fastest." He pulled out a small herbal pouch filled with a fine dark powder. "Ground Khoetylot from home. Enough for maybe 20 doses. Give one dose inhaled through the nose to those who were bitten but can still breathe fine. It should delay the shallow breath for a time. Is there anything else you can tell me about the plant?" He asked, handing the pouch to the healer. "It's Color, places to look, it's smell, and animals that are attracted to it could help me find this root faster. Is there anything unique about the plant that I should know before I leave?"

Ayi took the proffered powder and went to the pouch at his waist. He pulled out a small vial and uncorked it, holding it out to his new ally."This is its scent. It is a small tree, not higher than you are, and it grows on the sunless sides of hills beside rivers and streams. I cannot thank you enough for your help." The importance for Ayi went beyond helping the wounded here, if he saved lives here he could pay back a little more of his debt. That would take him one more step closer to redemption.

The Atheris opened his mouth, breathing in the sharp smell of the tree. It was a peaceful smell, earthy and wooden and brittle all at the same time. He remembered the smell from his trip north. Saying his thanks, he left to find someone quick footed who still had strength. At precisely that moment, the red avian who had brought wind to the tavern appeared in the sky.

"FLAME-WING!" The serpent tribesman called, shouting to the sky. "The healers need your speed and keen eye! Follow, we'll show you which herbs are life!" The tribesman signaled to Anu, the lemur archer and set off towards the forrest.

Shikoba glided quickly over the rolling expanses of warriors. The hill side had been consumed in warriors running around, aiding the wounded and reallocating weapons and supplies. The fires from the night morphed; changing from smoldering debree to station camp fires.

In moments he found a group of warriors, including the dog that had needed medicinal herbs. As he dove to greet him and his companions, he noticed the man he was speaking to.... the snake. He froze, wide eye'd. For Shikoba, snakes were natural enemies. The cobras and vipers that slunk under the sun were vile people who lied and killed for money. This reptile was green, a stark contrast of the mud and sand hues of the snakes he was used to, but despite that he was still a snake. He called up to Shikoba as he descended upon the group, flapping hard to stay air-born a moment. Flame wing?

Shikoba stepped into my human form, falling about 2 feet before hitting the ground, running up to the dog clearly in charge.

"Nu uh, no way. Im not working with HIS kind." Shikoba cawd with his finger pointing to the Serpent. "They're vile and deceitful. Besides, I'm the fastest guy here. I would do better to just get the herbs by myself. What is it i'm looking for?"

Björn||Anthro||Temporary Medical Camp
Björn watched tentatively as the healer and the snake tribesman convened to discuss a solution to the spiders' acidic venom. His veteran heart rejoiced to see the warriors taking up an initiative in this dire situation regardless of their glaring differences. However, despite winning the initial battle against the unexpected spider ambush there was still a myriad of questions left unanswered. Björn turned too see two of his scouting soldiers slowly making their way up the hill, back from the edge of the city.

"Balder! Calder! For the love of Ameta, Make haste."

The two ironclad bear brothers responded to Björn's command instantly and raced up the remainder of the hill. As the two brothers approached him, Björn wasted no time with customary greetings in favor of getting straight to the point.

"Balder give me your report? What exactly did you see out there?"

"General Björn Sir," Calder began, "The enemy has retreated west into surrounding forest. We didn't pursue them any further than that, but I think it's fair to say they won't be back anytime soon."

Björn considered this fact for a moment before looking off into the distance. He glared at the distant horizon as the last few rays of sunlight were slowly engulfed by the inky night. After a moment of deliberation, Björn came to his conclusion.

"We can't trust that the enemy has retreated for good. Gather up anyone free citizens who can see clearly through the night and pair them up with my soldier's on the perimeter. There will be no more mistakes this night. Let's Go!"

"Understood Sir!" The two brothers said in unison as they went off into the night to carry out their task.

Björn surveyed the makeshift medical camp marveling at what they had achieved in such a short amount of time when suddenly there was a commotion. Björn watched as a red feathered avian stepped into his human form a couple feet above the ground. The avian warrior shoved his finger in the direction of the snake tribesman and protested his pairing with the reptilian warrior. Björn felt his blood grow hot.

"You there! Avian child!" Björn started as he made his way towards the boy. "I don't know what your qualm is with this man, but we don't have time to stand around and quarrel. Nightfall is upon us and those demons could be back at any moment. We need to act as a single unit in order to succeed. Are you capable of that ?"

Mikal Kae
Location - Hilltop
Form - Human
Speech - Common/Native

With a slight grin, Mikal returned a bow. "Mikal" he introduced himself. As he lifted to stand straight, he brushed some of the ash off of his shoulders. He knew there would be more on his back and most likely more spread across his face, but for know he'd let it sit. He turned to face the small crowd of people Elena must have saved. It brought warmth to his heart that he and the other warriors were not the only ones helping. Among the faces, some furred some not, he did spot a few young ones. Mikal felt sorry for the younger ones that had to be present during such a disaster. Without a doubt some would be without parents. He could only hope the best for them. He turned to face Elena once more. "I feel sorry for the children that were caught up in the mess. They must be-", it was then that he felt a burning sensation on his leg. Jumping a little, his eyes shot to the source of the burning. It appeared as if some of the corrosive blood from the spiders had stayed on his blade and eaten it's way through it's sheath. Immediately, he detached the sheath from his belt and tossed it a few feet away. He examined the burn. The acid hadn't burnt to deep and there seemed to be none left on his pants, all that was there was a bloodied rash on his thigh. "That hurt a bit" he said with a slight chuckle. Mikal may have said it only hurt a little, but the tone of his voice said it hurt a little more. He recomposed his stature before looking back at Elena with a grin. He hoped he hadn't made himself look like a fool.

Shikoba: Top of the hill with the others: Human

The bear that approached Shikoba was... Ginormous. The bear towered over the bird, who looked up at him with aw. Shikoba had never seen a bear before, and the sheer magnitude of his presence was enough to make Shikoba's heart skip a beat. When he growled it shook the earth a little. The worst part of the situation was, he was probably right. Despite all the things the snakes had done to his people, Shikoba had seen a new threat tonight. One that traveled in darkness, and left nothing but ruin in their wake.

Shikoba looked over at the serpent, and felt his throat tighten. He hated it: all of it. His father would never permit it. Methotase would...

In a moment Shikoba could see her face, peering over the sandy expanse of shifting yellows and browns, speckled with green like their feathers were speckled with light brown spots. She smiled the same warm smile that she wore every day they were on he land, just the two of them. She turned to him, leaning back on her hands contentedly, like she had forgotten they were on the hunt. "What you thinking about, Ruffles?"
Shikoba had always hated that name: but not really. He pretended it did when she called him that, but it really made him smile every time she said it. They would always tease each other, like family. To him, the only way to flirt back was to remind her of how much an idiot she was. She would never listen, though.

"I'm just thinking of my mom.." Shikoba replied, looking the other way, towards the distant plateau that the rest of the tribe lived and worked on. It was large and bright red, and towered a good 400 feet into the air with quite sheer cliff sides.
Methotase and he had had this conversation a thousand times over. In the days they had spent alone, soaring over the endless sea of arid expanse, they found themselves circling over the same conversations often: And Methotase was the only one Shikoba would even bring up the memories of his mother with.

She looked away for a moment, face placid, squinting in the harsh light. "I'm tired Shikoba." She concluded after her silence.

"How can you be tired? We just started flying not two hours ago?" He chuckled, not understanding her meaning yet.

"Not now, I mean in general. We've been fighting this war for years: Arn't you weighed down by any of the death we wade through?" She turned to face him, picking up his hand in hers, and he found her eyes pleading with him for understanding.

Shikoba felt his heart ache a little, and confusion creep onto his features. "Tase, the snakes deserve to die. They're scavengers, killers, liars and thieves. Don't you agree with what we're doing?" She let go of his hand, eyes falling in disappointment, like he had failed a test. "Kisecawchuck struck out in anger at an entire species for one mans crimes. Everyday I can see him sinking lower to the earth, weighed down by his own mistakes, and he's dragging the rest of us down with him."

Shikoba grew angry that she would speak about his father like that. "My father is a great man. He is honoring the spirit of my mother by fighting the people that took her from us."

Methotase turned to him, tears beginning to stream down her face. "HE HONORS NO ONE. HE PLAGUES A PEOPLE FOR ANOTHER'S SINS!" Shikoba's mouth ran dry and he froze, unaccustomed to listening to his partners pains. "We have killed so many people: Children, elderly... How many more have to die before his wife-" She looked away, purposely avoiding the words "your mother" "- has been honored? And what about our people? How many more of them have to die?"

"Methotase.." Shikoba couldn't find his words, and without hesitation Methotase broke away, leaping from their perch and stepping, soaring far away from where Shikoba sat, and wondered.

Shikoba opened his eyes and sighed. "Fine." He was still incredibly uncomfortable with the reptiles company, but he would focus on fighting the common enemy. And soon enough, he would find her.

Guang Fen

Guang Fen still held her sword in her hand studying the black liquid that had come from the strange creature. Her mouth turned to a frown as the blood of the foul creature had stained her precious sword and so the young women made a mental note to investigate the damage to her swords further later that night when there was less chaos.

Guang Fen watched Shikoba step into his animal form as he took off up toward the skies, her eyes followed him her mouth slightly a gape as the young women hadn’t encountered many avian souls so she was always slightly excited when she encountered one. Guang Fen followed Shikoba to the rest of the group as they were standing in a circle discussing what she assumed what the medical camp that was set up around them. Guang Fen was holding in her excitement as she had never been with a group so diverse as everyone looked so intriguing and interesting to the girl who had grown up in a secluded mountain village.

However the young women’s excitement died down when she felt the heat of the burning tavern hit her face. A ash from the burning building floated down and landed on Guang Fen’s open palm she brought it up to her nose smelling the ash, only seconds later the young women sneezed as the substance out from her lungs.

Guang Fen felt the hairs stand up on the back of her neck when the polar bear let a growl rip through the tense air surrounding the group as he seemed to be scolding Shikoba. As Shikoba replied curtly Guang Fen took this opportunity to speak up and introduce herself “I’m Guang Fen from the Snow Leapord tribe in Xiao-shi. Sorry for being late I could of offered some assistance.” Guang Fen says nerves laced within the tone of her voice as it seemed like she was one of the youngest in the group meaning she would have to speak formally to her elders just like they did in her tribe.

Name : Zhihan

As the conversation bounced back and forth between Ayi and Luruke, Zhihan let her eyes flicker to a spot somewhere on the distant ground as if in deep thought. However, a dark stormy haze seemed to cloud her mind and when she could not clear it, she turned to their words as a source of distraction.

At one point, the wild dog man gave them an offer of refuge at the camp of belonging to she assumed was their group of warriors with the polar bear as their leader. Though originally, Zhihan and her two companions were supposed to go directly to the Palace, there was no way that she could leave now, not until she had finished her duties and put the souls to rest. The blaze would take a while to completely die down so until then, she’d probably need to take him up offer.

However, before she could respond, another man approached and it was the warrior from before. She instantly recognized him but remained silent as they spoke of medicine and herbs. Though she was no master of medicine, she fortunately knew more than enough so she could keep up with their conversation. They were organizing a group and preparing to make an antidote. Despite wanting to take the chance do join them and put as much distance between herself and the still smoldering ruins, Zhihan figured that their current little helper group was more than enough. She was needed here.

Once Xaman had left to go recruit the “Flame-wing”, the crane maiden turned to face Ayize, wearing a much more composed expression. Though her voice was slightly hoarse and wavered shakily as she spoke, at least gotten herself under control.

“...I may have to take you up on your offer, if you don’t mind....” she started before realizing that she knew not his name. “Apologies for my rudeness, I had forgotten to ask your name.”

Björn||Anthro||Camp

"Fine..." The young warrior replied.

Björn detected a subtle hint of bitter sorrow in the lad's voice. His heart softened. Björn took up one of his massive paws and gently plants it on the young man's shoulder.

"I saw what you did today son. You fought with the bravery and skill of ten men. Tell me your name before you set off, or I just might start remembering you as Flame-Wing."

However, before the avian warrior had a chance to respond a loud voice beckoned Björn's attention.

I’m Guang Fen from the Snow Leopard tribe in Xiao-shi. Sorry for being late I could have offered some assistance.

Björn turned his head to identify the origin of the voice. A nervous young woman sporting dual blades stood before the camp as if waiting for permission to enter.

What are yer doing all the way over there lass ?! Come over here quick! We can always use more good soldiers in our ranks.

Name: Elena
Form: Human
Location: Hilltop
Elena was confused for a brief moment, why the grin? The fighting had just finished, people were dead, a building had collapsed, and still, when Mikal introduced himself, there was a small, but nonetheless noticeable, grin on his lips. Perhaps she was over thinking this, maybe he was simply trying to be polite. He continued to mention about his feeling sorry for the children though this was swiftly stopped when he suddenly jumped from apparent pain on his upper leg. Elena was surprised when he moved and she ended up backing away from him. This movement was quickly followed by a chuckle, a grin and a voice that didn't endear Mikal to Elena's good books.
"I'm sure it did," Elena practically sighed, "I'm afraid I'm not much of a healer."
An idea came to her mind almost immediately after she said that; this was a prime opportunity for her to offload her responsibilities on to somebody else. Her tone quickly became earnest and her body language purposefully submissive and meak. "Could you do me a favour please?" she implored, moving slowly close to him, "That young boy, the unconscious one. I'm worried he may need additional attention; a medic came by earlier and... he told me to seek him out if he didn't wake up after a few minutes and... well... as you can see he still hasn't woken up yet." She paused, looking sullen, "If you could keep an eye on him, while I find this medic, I'd be in your debt." Another pause. This time she lent forwards, a flirtatious tone to her voice as she whispered, "I can pay you back in many ways."
She took a step away and winked at him, quickly handing Mikal a small handful of dried leaves, the ones the warrior gave her, "If he wakes up, the medic said give him these."
Elena promptly walked away, at a brisk pace, without waiting for a reply. She couldn't resist the smile that tugged at her lips; a good lie has elements of truth within it - she was going to find the warrior that had advised her, but she had no interest in providing a reward for this Mikal. Regardless, she thought, a warrior should be happy helping others and he was definitely helping her right now.
The fox meandered through the camp after she was sure that she hadn't been followed by Mikal, her eyes scanning every face for the medic she had spoken to earlier.

Name: Kioko Ming Chi
Form: Human
Place: Forest near Hilltop
The forest was still... too still. Kioko stepped lightly around the shrubbery, her eyes scanning the trunks of trees and the undergrowth for a particular kind of fungi that she knew grew in the area. She didn't like how still the air was. Where were the mute animals? The birds, the insects, the small rodents... nothing made a sound. Even with the moon rising steadily in the sky, she knew there should have been more life among these trees. The air was mild, but it wasn't the temperature that made the fine ginger hair stand up on her arms.

She knew it wasn't a very good idea to be out at night alone. Kioko would like to think she could handle herself... but against the blighted creatures, who knew how her skills fared against theirs. Her mother may not have even been able to best them.

The thought of her mother sent a mix of emotions swimming into her mind. She'd never been inherently close to her tough-loving family... but they were still family, and the disappearance of her mother and sister had left a confused, twisted knot inside of her. What had happened to them? Were they even still alive?

Kioko realized she had stopped walking, lost in her own thoughts. Looking down, she discovered she'd subconsciously found the mushroom she'd been looking for. She bent down and began plucking them out of the damp earth and placing them in a separate compartment of her travel satchel. Now that she had finished her errand, she knew she should start heading back towards the imperial city. She stood up and situated her satchel on her shoulder. Turning, she saw a shadow shift. Even with her nocturnal vision, she squinted, but saw nothing. Then, a strange noise, like a sort of clicking, sounded behind her.

Ayize - Hilltop by the tavern ruins - human

Ayi watched the altercation with the hawk tribesman, catching the expressions on his face and guessing the fact that he had a fair bit of history with the serpents where he was from. Still, he was willing to put his differences aside and work with the Cuahuteh man and for that he was grateful.
"Take the means for fire with you!" He called out to them as they prepared to leave. "The attacking force may have fled but I am willing to bet that they might not have been the only things out there!"

The voice of the crane maiden made him turn and he smiled as Zihan offered to help. "Work is a good salve for an ailing soul, else it is at the very least a distraction. Come, I have much work to do here."
He began to remove several more pouches of dried herbs and bark when he said, almost as an afterthought: "My name is Ayize, the wise woman of my village bestowed upon me the title 'Life Catcher'. Pray, what are you called?" Dominaiscna Dominaiscna
He heard the nervous introduction given by the young warrior, looking up at the mountainous Bjorn with a timid but set expression.
"I could use another pair of hands preparing this herbal infusion. Can you find me a pot, and fill it with water?"

Ayize went to the pack he had left on the hill before the chaos at the tavern and withdrew a small mortar and pestle. These he handed to Zihan. "Can you grind herbs?" He asked gently, "We need to make something that dulls pain, to ease the sleep of those most afflicted."
He began to work tearing the leaves off of some of the dried herbs he kept in the same pack, putting them one at a time into the bowl.
"I have never had the privilege of meeting a shrine maiden of the sacred temple here. It is an honour my lady." Ayi decided it would be best for now to turn the lady's mind away from the horrors they had witnessed that night. There would be more than enough shock to process for all of them.

Luruke :: Animal form :: Forest by tavern ruins

Luruke was working to clear the tree level when he spotted it. It was only a glint, reflected off of moonlight, but that glint made him turn his head. After a night of fighting the things, it was immediately recognizable. Eight glinting eyes with a body of darkness. Immediately after, he spotted the woman.
Without a second thought, he swiveled in the air, sweeping around in a sharp right to reach them.

Let me be on time.

The night air only produced a faint rustle as he streaked over the forest, foliage skimming below his belly. Closer. He could make out the woman's red hair, like a fire in the night. Of course the stray spider had spotted her. Closer. The fine hairs on the spider's back sharpened into view. Closer. The girl noticed a sound.
Just as he reached them, he banked sharply up, climbing as best he could nearly vertically into the sky. He tipped backwards slowly, too slowly, like a pendulum on a backswing, and then began to fall. Luruke slipped from animal to anthro to human, each gain in weight pulling faster as gravity speeded him towards his destination.

With a flip, he landed full on the head of the spider, his swords finding home in two of the spider's many eyes, sinking nearly hilt-deep. The spider writhed visciously beneath him, but he held fast, legs anchoring around its neck. It wasn't long before the creature grew limp, and Luruke quickly jumped off, wiping his swords on the grass. The thin blades hissed and shriveled.

He looked from his swords to the woman, and smiled. And then, after a pause, laughed. He felt like it had been ages since he'd last laughed, like he'd been holding his breath. Now he let go.

"You have interesting hair color, yeah?"

Purize Purize and sank you

Shikoba: With the group > the snake group: Human

Shikoba lifted his eyes up to the bears gaze, and with subtle pride, spoke "My name is Shikoba. I'll be back with the herbs we need in no time." He pushed the snake out of his mind, choosing to focus on the wounded laying on the ground, writhing in agony. They needed a salve, a cure. The venom that slowly ate away at them looked.... excruciating.
Shikoba nodded at the dog and bear, and waved at the snow leopard who saved his tail feathers earlier. He shouted at her as he ran towards the snake and the lemur. "I'm going to go and gather medicine! Ill be back soon Fee Fee!"

Shikoba turned and greeted the lemur with a smile, and then a blank nod to the snake. Being so close to one gave him shivers of all the times he had wrestled with a rattler for a knife to finish the job. Shikoba could feel his muscles tensing.
"Alright, what is it I am looking for?"
