AWHY IC

Happy Red Mage

Red Mage Extraordinaire

CHAPTER ONE: OUR STORY BEGINS...

In times of great need, we can call upon some people to help us. Examples of greatness achieved. Eidolons of peace and justice. Beacons of hope and light. We call these people heroes. It all began a couple decades ago. The Capital of the Urturion Empire fell to the might of a dark wizard named Andal. During his siege, the kingdom's knights and mages stood no chance, being swept up in the tides of battle, and when all hope was lost, the first Heroes appeared and drove away Andal. This is...not our story, but you have to admit I had you going there for a bit didn't I.

Right then, let me introduce myself. My name is Red and I'm going to be your narrator for some parts of the RP. My main purpose here is to drive whatever plot is going on forward so we can move on to the next one. But let's not mind that for now, let's continue on shall we? Good, let's!

Ambercross has been long fabled in its fame for its collection of various creatures. You are no exception to this. Whether you're only passing by or actually live here, none could say no to the Fortune Festival, a gathering of Vashienerth's fortune tellers. Suffice to say, over the years this festival has gained some renown to merchants and gamblers. Making this festival one of the most income generating events in the world. However there is a cautious air around the town's mayor this day? Is something going to happen? Maybe, maybe not. But one thing is for sure though, you best be ready for anything.

Decorations hand above the streets of Ambercross as scatter across the town. In the main square, a large stage is set up where the fortune tellers will soon gather to tell the town's fortune.

It's begun! Release the Kraken. After this Chapter is done, I'll put up a vote poll to ask how you all want to progress!

Gwenan made her way into town just in time it seemed. She was curious about the town to begin with, and the fact that they celebrated a sort of fortune telling. Perhaps they call on their own towns deity? Or it could be the trickery of demons and devils at work. As deplorable as they are, they could prey on these unsuspecting folk for some sort of energy or magic purpose. No matter, it was their business who they worshiped or called into their own town.

The only reason Gwenan was here was to search for more food rations and to be on her own way, if she could manage to weave her way around the crowd of people and creatures choking the streets, trying to sell their cheaply made trinkets and wares under the pretense that they were "magical" and able to protect you and your family from robbery and to give you luck. It disgusted her that such false amulets were allowed to even be sold. It took half a mind for her not to bring it to the surrounding crowds attention, but again, no matter, its time to move on and get her food.

 Each step clicked as the black armor walked, its eyes a teal glow from within its mask. pausing at one of the stands, its armored hand lifting a locket. it was a simple trinket, probably worthless to most. hell, he had no use for it...

 the coins fell on the counter as he continued on, the cheep necklace vanishing inside the armor. worthless, but everything is worthless in someone's eyes.

 this city was as festive as ever. He simply came to observe, these festivities seeming useless in his eyes, and yet these people seemed so joyful about it. He huffed, moving on. He never understood these things.

 that much was clear as people steered clear of the dark armor,making sure not to heed its progress. it just had an air to it. an intimidating, almost terrifying air as it didn't make eye contact with anyone, walking with glare.

Bel strolled by Ambercross streets in a slow pace, travelling by the way that he took every day to get into the market. His usual route was composed mostly by alleys and less traveled paths, as the suspicious looks that he got at the market were more than enough for him and he didn't felt like having some random traveller trying to attack the "infiltrated evil demon" on his way to selling his products, so he took some time to finally arrive the merchant zone.

Immediately after getting away from his cover Bel started forcing his way by the crowd to arrive at the merchant's shop that usually bought his pelts. His uncovered figure somehow contributed open his way through the crowd, as no one in their right mind would purposefully block the way of a demon, making his locomotion proceed smoothly till arriving at the shop.

The shop was quite the big building even for the city standard, as the shop dealing mainly with weapons and armor was quite famous amongst the city folks and travelers alike for it's blacksmith, a experienced dwarf that had long achieved the level of a master in his art.  "Yar already here, Lad? Just drop the materials in the corner, the money is in my desk" the loud voice of the said dwarf echoed by the place when Bel entered his workshop. Their business relationship started right after Bel arrived the city, as the dwarf was the only shopkeeper that accepted dealing with the products of the "Demon", and they already achieved the point of having some trust in each other through their small interactions, so Bel generally barely had to do anything other that directly picking the coin purse that held his payment after dropping the product of his hunting into some corner of the workshop. In fact, he didn't even talked before leaving the shop, clearly engrossed into his own thoughts.

Beryll walked through the gates of the town, more somber than normal. Artur, on her shoulder, cawed nervously. This was his first time in a town ever since his change. It made sense that he was uneasy.

Beryll leaned her head slightly towards him, comfortingly. The wide brim of her hat shaded both of them from the sun beaming down on the festival. She drew comfort from his presence as well. He hadn't known Geraldine and Betsy, but he knew she was upset about their deaths.

She slowly made her way through the crowd, the throng of people pushing around her. She stopped to look at some of the vendors. Some of them looked authentic, and many were fake. The usual sort. She didn't purchase any, knowing she would be able to make most of them herself. She also didn't know any vendor she could trust for quality here.

Slowly but surely, she made her way towards the notice board that may, may have some information of use to on her search.

K'eyush arrived at Ambercross by boat, after having followed the course of rivers for several months, by hitchhiking boats. When he left his home village, he had no idea that adventuring would be so hard! Everywhere he went was hotter than the last, and he soon started to go shirtless, with his coat wrapped around his waist. And then there was the money,., he needed money no matter what he wanted to do in towns, something that had a much lesser focus in the Arctic. Still, it was worth it. He had met more people in the last month than in 17 years in the north, and the fact he could see the sun everyday always manage to make him smile. After thanking the boat's owner, he walked off from the port and into the marketplace. He had never seen a festival, so within a couple hours, he had spent nearly all of his cash (which wasn't all that much to begin with). He wore several amulets now, at least most of them very, very fake. Now, what he would even do with the shiny trinkets, he had no idea, considering he had to carry around everything he owned. Having two souls didn't make him any less of a novice, it seemed.

That was proven especially truthful when, while walking and looking down at his amulets at once, he hit what seemed to be a wall. It wasn't a wall, though, it was a heavily armored person's back! As people steered clear, he walked instinctively after Syntel, where it was easy to avoid hitting people while walking in his usual, quick pace. Well, except for the one that caused the "void" of people, anyway. After the hit, he rubbed over his head with one hand. "Ow.. sorry. Uh-" When his eyes opened, he looked over the armor, and his eyes just widened, and he suddenly dropped amulets at Syntel's feet. "I'm sorry, ancestor! Please don't possess people! Or whatever you tarngek do when you're angry..."

Now some context! A "tarngek" is a spirit in his tribe's myths, and spirits can be helpful or... not. K'eyush now things he's seeing one, since his player couldn't resist but try this out.

 The collision with another barely budged the knight, who turned slowly in response, teal eyes glaring to the boy who stood before him. glowing eyes crossed the boy with peeked curiosity, especially at the term "tarngek". in his travels he never heard of such a thing. a creature of some sort, it would seem. maybe a spirit?

 By the fear this boy showed, the latter was more likely. The knights eyes the shifted downward, gazing upon.the trinkets that had fallen to the dirt. in silence, the warrior crouched, gathering the boys merchandise, examining two or three of them as he stood once again. one caught his eye. a simple,smooth stone, turquoise in coloring.

 "I am not this...tarngek, you call me." the voice was hoarse, but still clear as he spoke. "I am Jester. a warrior."he held out his hand, Most of the amulets in his palm to return to the boy. the turquoise one, however, he continued to examine in his other hand, His teal eyes shifting over it repeatedly.

 "where did you get this stone?"

The Amaroki boy was ready to make a spiritual dance, when he heard the other's words. He never really dealt with tarngek (did they even exist? Maybe just a myth spread by the shamans), so he wasn't sure if they could speak. And then, he heard the rest. "Oooh.. why are you dressed like a spirit!?" He now held a hand to his chest, trying to calm himself. He got a hold of the amulets that were given back, before looking over the stone Syntel held. "That one is from my homeland, I think, but I bought it here. I definitely recognize the stone, but the carving is so weird. It's smooth and featureless. You'd usually find that in sculptures of bears, caribous, or wolves." He then put the amulets back on his pockets, neck, and body (the ones that could be worn). "I'm K'eyush, a traveler."

 The knight chuckled at the boys reaction.

" it's simply armor. don't worry."

 he handed the stone back with a nod.

"we have a similar stone in my country. we are told they are the souls of great warriors, petrified in eternity."

listening to the boy talk of his homeland, he nods.

"a traveler? where to you come from?"

K'eyush grabbed the stone, getting a better look. "Really? That's cool! Sh-should I bury this in caribou skin or something?" He held the stone more.. respectfully, this time. "I come from Amarok, up in the north, took months to get here through the rivers! This must be the hottest place in the world, though, I feel like I could just melt or something... And what's this country of yours?"

@Mistory (I think that's the wrong Akane, also x3)

he smiled, listening to the boys enthusiasms, waving a hand gently" no no. to my people the most respectful thing is to wear it proudly. allow all to know a warrior is with you, and let them continue their adventures even after they have passed." he smiled under his mask. it had been awhile since he had a true conversation.

"the deserts. my country is lost in the desert. few ever travel their,.and even less have a reason to. but if you think this is hot, its more of a reason you shouldn't go. the deserts are so hot Its as if your iron melts in your hands! you come from a place of cold and white. the deserts are heat and gold. " he figured his ranting would go over the boys head. he wasn't stupid, that much he could see, just a little uneducated, if even that.

"imagine placing ice in a fire you can't put out. that's what I expect you'd be like in my coutnry"

@Akane the Kitsune

I had clicked you but it didn't register I guess?

"So! Here we are!" A man's voice said cheerfully as a group of three arrived at a festival far from their hometown, Berun.  The town was filled with festive decorations, the townsfolk seemingly having a grand time. Seeing this made the man sigh. "Ah, Ambercross...It's been a while since I've been to the Fortune Festival."

"Fortune...Festival?" A young teenager of black and white hair asked, wearing simple clothing while carrying a holsters for handguns and a sheath for a blade.

"Oh, you haven't heard of it yet, Ruhigen?" His female companion, Suki Bergun inquired, wearing what appears to be white silk linen armor and blade sheath. "The Fortune Festival is widely known among the blacksmiths. They say it's their chance to show the world their work."

"Which brings us to our reason why we went to this festival!" The Man in his mid-30s with blue haired turned to Ruhigen and Suki, with a wide, jovial grin on his face. "It's about time we showcase our town's MWBs(Multi-Weapon Blades) to the world!" He chuckled, "But don't worry, you two can enjoy the festival for a while. I can handle it!"

"Are you sure, Sir Smith?" Ruhigen asked in a monotone voice, with a slight hint of worry and caution. "I heard that thieves come at festive times."

"Oh don't you worry!" The blacksmith laughed, carrying a cart filled with various weaponry, "I may look old, but I can still kick some asses!" He chuckled, as he went on his merry way.

"So, where do you want to go, Ruhigen?" Suki turned to him, asking where to go first. Ruhigen merely shrugged as she asked her a single question.

"Do you know where the food is?" He asked, which resulted with a playful bonk on the head from Suki. They headed off deep into the festival with Suki holding Ruhigen's hand, looking for a food stall which Ruhigen might like.

During the festival, there is music and dance, merriment and showmanship, this is no exception with Augus who found himself in one of the squares that most come to show their wares, he would be there playing joyously as the people around him sing and dance to his tunes, floating slightly so that he could see the people as they danced and was merry, after a song or two Augus would finish, looking over the people that came to dance to his music, "Let you merriment and cheer spread through Ambercross this fine day so everyone can enjoy this together." Augus bellowed over the crowd, his voice was deep and powerful but didn't have the harshness move voices have when they are so deep as his. The crowd cheers to what Augus said before they dispersed, going back to what they were doing before hearing Augus' playing.

Augus once done playing would begin walking through the city, standing out easily from him being rather tall, edging over 7", with stark white hair and clothes far different from anyone else there. He was enjoying the festival and all that it had to offer, happily talking to complete strangers like they were long time friend, playing to people like it was a concert and he was the main act, it felt good.

He smiled as well, even though he wasn't able to see Syntel's. "I see! Alright, I'll fashion it into a necklace... and treat it more carefully. The ancestors' wrath is something to be wary of. I had a friend in Amarok who mistreated his great-grandfather's grave, and his little sister was born with a lazy eye." He put the stone in a specific pocket, to work on it later, and heard the explanation on the desert. "That does sound even hotter! You're exaggerating though.. right? I mean, I still wanna go. I wanna go all around." In his home, adventuring was seen as foolish, but he wanted to see the whole world! "I'm harder to melt than you'd think! Though... do you wear things like that in the desert? I think I'd die if I did that." He pointed at the other's armor. "Or are you heading to some kind of duel right now?"

@Mistory

 Augus would walk about the festival, he would be enjoying the environment that the festival had to offer, as he continued, not fully aware of his surroundings walking past a shop he would bump into someone, looking down at who he bumped into he would see them as a young man with horns protruding from his head, "Ah sorry my friend, I did not mean to bump into you." Augus spoke in his usual relaxed joyous tone. Augus stood over seven foot tall and was built like a brick wall, his hair and eyes, stark white with him wearing garbs that aren't worn in the region that they were in, "My name is Augus, nice to meet you friend, might I know your name?" He continued to talk friendly to the young man, not even fazed by the horns.

@Spanner

Bel looked at the man who managed to bump into him with his usual cold glance, expecting that he was naturally going to freak over it as every other human that got near enough to actually touch him before. Wait, what!? His thoughts suddenly got into disarray as the man continued to talk with him in a friendly way, in fact his shock was almost apparent in his face before he managed to once more hold the indifferent expression.

"Belphegor." He finally managed to answer with a single word after a few seconds staring at the abnormally big man, his voice sounding somehow hoarse as it was the first time that he talked in quite a while. His uncovered right eye moved constantly, examinating the man's body with its gaze, ingrained in his newfound curiosity about the stranger.

@SinningSloth

"Well Belphegor, it's nice to meet you, what brings you here?" Augus said as he placed his stringless Sitar down, leaning it against the wall. Moving around the young man Augus would give him a once over, most people usually fall or get hurt when bumping into him, as he did he would start to float ever so slightly above the ground just over an inch, "Seems you are okay, that good." Augus said with a smile.

When Augus looked over Belphegor he was indeed looking him over to see if he eas fine but also a slight curiosity to what he was, Augus during his travels had seen a vast number of strange people, things, cultures but it was rare for him to meet someone that at least in some way human or is it elf but also have demonic aspects. He pondered on that thought picking up the Sitar to let is vanish into nothing.

@Spanner

"I live here." Bel muttered, his voice sounding somehow better albeit maintaining itself low. The mixed breed was somehow uncomfortable with all the stares comming from the weird human, but he didn't really thought that it would be good to react violently while the other man didn't actively moved agaisnt him. After all he was, at least mostly, a demon, so making any weird move against a human in a city with a majority of humans would probably end bad for him.

In the end, the demon's only reaction other that speaking was scratching the overgrown hair on the left side of his hair in a movement that demonstrated part of his uneasiness, hoping that the weird human would notice it and stop.

@SinningSloth

Seeing the uneasiness of the young man, Augus would move back, legs not moving as he floated back, "Sorry friend, I sometimes get focused on one thing I forget people's personal space. If you live here could you give me directions to somewhere that I might rest for the night." Augus said before thinking about something off topic, not noticing that during him doing so he was just rotating, floating feet above head before returning back to his normal orientation, "anyway, this festival, is brilliant, no?" He said smile brimming, not caring much about worries of not finding somewhere to sleep, Augus just came off as a surprisingly friendly, floating, hulk of a man.

This place was too loud, Gwenen could not hear herself think. And not that the sound was irritable enough, she could feel the presence of demons lurking around, probably trying to con people out of their money. She suppressed the urge to seek them out she carried on, rations were the most important thing right now. She kept her hand close to her hammer, being her most prized possession, she didn't want anyone else to even so much as look at it with the intent of touching it. Unfortunately for her, she wasn't looking where she as going. Gwenan bumped I to an unsuspecting witch at the notice board. Gwenan made a startled 'Oof' as she knocked into them, but it wasn't with enough force for either of them to fall down. She rubbed her head as she turned to her victim of her distracted state, and gave a small bow of her head out of respect.

"I apologize for being so distracted and clumsy on my end..." She said to the witch infront of her.

Luckily, Gwenen was aware that not all witches dabbled in dark things. Where she came from, witches specifically would craft potions to heal wounds or help with rituals. She felt it would be polite to approach her as a witch from her own town, at least for now.

Bel tried his best to stop showing his uneasiness after noticing the older man lack of ill intent, simply nodding to his question before trying to sign a nearby house. While he lacked the intent to explain it in words, he knew that the owner of the house occasionaly rented a room for travellers when there was no spot in any near inn. Of course Bel could notice that the man was literally floating, but he didn't had the knowledge to differentiate it from magic, so he just assumed that it was something normal. He once more nodded when asked about the festival, as he felt that it was quite pleasing to see albeit somehow crowded.

Beryll had been glancing over the notice board. Of course there was nothing useful on there. Nothing about a missing witch, these villagers probably didn't care about Opal, besides thinking she was evil. She was too engrossed in her thoughts to hear Artur's squawk of alarm, and a heavy body collided with her, her unnaturally light frame stumbling, even from such a slight tap.

Recovering from that, she looked at the woman that had run into her so rudely, and was pleasantly surprised at the polite way in which she was being addressed. A smile started to appear on Beryll's face, as Artur resettled on her shoulder.

Then, Beryll's eyes moved past her accoster to see what appeared to be a demon and a djin walking freely around the village.

'Grey Horn's beard, we are all in  great danger.' she thought. Demons were evil, but not likely to cause trouble when agents of the gods were likely to be afoot, but the djin...Djinni were malevolent, she knew that very well. The one she had encountered had required her entire coven to banish.

Pale and slightly scared, Beryll turned back towards the woman looking at her inquiringly. She had a large silver hammer and sigils on her armor of one of the Great Goddesses. "Are you strong, either physically or magically?" Beryll asked bluntly.

"Thank you, my good friend, now then, let's be off, I shall find my place of rest and afterwards we can enjoy the festivities, it is alway good to enjoy these things together," Augus spoke to the young man like there were old friend even tho he had only met the man mere moments ago and yet normally when he spoke his jovial nature usually is infectious to most normal folk to the point where they would join in with the merriment. Augus would begin to walk in the direction of the house that Belphegor pointed to, stopping for a moment as he looked back that the young man with a cheery smile before returning to him walking to the house that was pointed out to him.

@Spanner @RaspberryBeret @DevilishDoodler

"Erm," the question threw off Gwenan just a bit before she recovered "I would say a bit of both, but that is all circumstantial really. Why? Do you believe someone here is stalking about with ill intent?"

Gwenan was generally curious, after all she suspected the witch saw the demon, or could it have been something more? Something she didn't catch or see? Gwenan thought she knew about most of the terrors in her own town, but in this unfamiliar land, maybe there are more things she should be wary of.

Bel frowned slightly when confronted by the unusual friendly behavior of the Djinn, sincerely surprised by how amiable the weird male was. He didn't moved to follow the djinn when he started moving towards the home, as his presence would probably make the owner reluctant in accepting the man as a guest, choosing to stay at the same spot, waiting for the Djinn's return.
