So everyone IN the Avengers knows Lance, nobody outside knows.
They had people following Laxus, because he was a threat as well, they'd SEEN what he could do, and they'd SEEN him fail.

Just switch Laxus out for Lance. There was a three month timeskip before which Laxus told the Starks that Lance would come to help them out with Ley Line Sphere. That means logically over the timeskip he was associating with the Starks with an object of power. These people may not understand but would know from any bit of surveillance they would have do to in order to get every single hero like that, that Lance was helping Starks with something that is supposed to empower the Avengers but that is also super dangerous in the wrong hands with a name known to bring misfortune with such items.LokiofSP said:

Well to be fair Desimus wouldn't even tell Lance that he is his brother. Desimus would know, and keep it a secret till later fr a super juicy post. But you should listen to Loki New type, because it makes it easier and less confusing for everyone else.
