Well that really depends on whether or not you want to do what everybody else is doing, because if so you might kinda have to do stuff...

Well to be completely and totally fair, everything so far in the story happened in a 16 hour period. Everything was so busy that he never really thought about it, and once he got pissed off at Cade and Laxus and started to rant in his head, more connections just popped and popped up.
Plus, the thing about not having friends your entire life for a character - Easy to come by, easy to go, always paranoid if they actually like you or just want to use you. For him, it was like, "...I basically gave my life on 3 or 4 seperate occasions to these people... and most of them still wanted to shank me, and I am truly only friends with two.... and one of them just tried to kill me a few hours ago!"
