Name: Mizuki Miyazaki
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Nation: Fire Nation

Bending Experience:
Mizuki is a fire bender trained under the loving eye of her own father, a Fire sage. Since she was young she never quite got the proper stances and steps to traditional firebending finding herself too playful for the disciplined arts. Sure she could meet all the expectations needed of a young fire lady when she was interacting with the courts and nobility, respect was never something she was lacking, but she couldn't maintain the confident moves needed to gain any power behind her firepower. Still her family were scholars above all else, if one style wasn't working she would learn another. She wasn't incapable and she still kept up with the education expected from a young firebender but she would look to the wind to spread her fire and help it grow. She found herself moving constantly in her fights, reminiscent to the elder sages as someone who would greatly benefit from looking at things from an airbender's perspective.

From the young age of eight, she shifted her perspective.

Background:
Mizuki has had a proper fire noble's upbringing since she's enjoyed a lesser noble standing from being the Daughter of Hyeon-Ju and Mei Miyazaki. Unlike many of her peers she was a first-generation fire noble often enjoying pastimes that would be considered common or below the stature of the nobles. As such, she was never quite barred from the general populace and often found herself befriending lower caste children more than any noble counterparts. While she received the same Etiquette training as other children of the sages she rarely found herself falling into the patterns. In fact, it was rather common for Mizuki to grumble the notes to herself in a rather childish manner rather than hold the same poise as the other noble children.

Beyond the differing posture and presence, even when it came to bending practice Mizuki was a bit of an anomaly. She didn't have the focus and rigidity to copy the powerful and precise movements of the traditional firebender's style. Instead, she held a graceful and wild movement similar to the fire dancers seen in the streets. Eventually, her parents moved her away from the traditional Dragon style bending the more flexible Salamander style seen in those who studied airbenders.

In terms of her general schooling, she found herself always taken in by the stories of old. Of the times where the firebenders were one with the dragons. She adores Avatar Yin for her achievements and hopes to aid an avatar as great as her. Her schooling has made her lean heavily on the favor of equality but she's certainly no pacifist. As a sage in training, she's ready to fight to protect and guide the avatar. The only thing she puts above her duty is her best friend, Kirima, who has been with her since she was young.

Name:
Shen

Age:
21

Gender:
Male

Bending Element:
Earth

Nation:
Earth Kingdom
c546b4691e21bc32a7fc4f55287d44ff.jpg
Background:

Shen was born in the Earth Kingdom province of Qingdi. His mother, Shaye, was a decorated member of the Earth Kingdom Military before she met Shen's father, Po Chen, a humble farmer. Shen's uncle on his mother's side, Faan, was a sitting general in the Army only outranked by his sister in that region. He never understood what his sister saw in Shen's father and openly resented Po Chen for - in his mind - dashing all of his sister's potential.

Shen's mother died of an unidentified sickness when he was young, leaving her son in the sole care of his father, now a widower.

Around the same time Shen had begun to show a keen aptitude for earthbending like his mother before him. His father was a nonbender so he could offer the boy little in the way of formal training. Still Shen progressed rapidly on his own and had begun to develop his own unique style.

When Shen was old enough at his father's insistence he attended formal training hosted by the Earth Kingdom Military and overseen by his uncle. Despite the rigorous curriculum Shen continued to display prodigious skill and a natural talent for earthbending, mastering moves and forms that few novices could. However, much to his uncle's annoyance, Shen seemed to care little for the formalities and rigid structure of the Earth Kingdom Military, preferring instead to go on adventures or sit in the fields and watch clouds pass by overhead.

Despite his rather lackadaisical attitude, Shen was the best in his class by a fair margin, a class that also happened to include his cousin Shuhe, the eldest son of his uncle the General. When word of the expedition being put together to find the Avatar reached Shen's isolated corner of the Earth Kingdom, the Grand General sent word to General Faan that his regiment would be sending their very best to join the search effort, and to determine this, a tournament of sorts would be conducted, with the winner representing their comrades in this noble endeavor.

Shen wanted to be the one to go. He thought that it was very likely that he would. After all, he'd sparred with the rest of the regiment before and beaten them all handily. This tourney felt like more of the same annoying formalities that he'd come to associate with the Earth Kingdom Military, and for that reason he was less excited than he would've been otherwise.

As Shen had predicted, he breezed through the tournament, usually defeating his opponent in the opening move, with as littel wasted movemenet as possible. In the final round Shen was surpised to learn that he was squaring off against Shuhe, his cousin. Still, he was confident that he was the stronger. However, when the final round began Shen was again surprised to find his opening attack thwarted by an impressive display of bending from Shuhe.

It was obvious his cousin had trained for this - in all their spars, the contest between them had never been this close. They went back and forth for a while, trading move for move, the two of them switching off between offense and defense as they tested each other's guard. Shen did not mind this change of pace in the action because, despite his age, he was a master of neutral Jing. He was more than comfortable with waiting, biding his time for the opportune moment to present itself. When the moment inevitably came he struck true, breaking Shuhe's guard. From there the bout was all but decided. In that moment Shen realized he had a choice, to let his cousin down easily with his dignity in tact... Or not. And in the face of making that choice, all Shen could remember were all the years of torment and belittlement that his uncle had bestowed on his father.

Shen decided to not merely defeat his cousin. He thoroughly, intentionally embarrassed him in front of the boy's father, the Grand General, and the rest of their regiment in attendance, demonstrating a monumentally impressive display of bending in the process. Shen's father watching from the stands was taken aback by the display. He'd had no idea that his son was capable of such cruelty. He felt deeply ashamed. When Shen found his father later in the crowd he could offer only a meek congratulations.

Sensing that he'd erred and suddenly overwhelmed by guilt, Shen searched for some way to apologize, to explain his behavior, to say that he'd done it for his father who he'd watched for years endure his brother-in-law's poor treatment. But before he could, the Grand General approached, clapping the boy on the shoulders and congratulating him for his victory.

He was on his way toward the ship that would bear him away to his destiny before dawn rose on the following morning.

Bending Experience:
Shen is a gifted earthbender. He is patient, centered, and decisive. He is always waiting for the opportune moment to strike true. He wears thin-soled slippers to better sense the earth beneath his feet. He tends to be more mobile than the average earthbender, and is a frequent user of Earth Tunneling to surprise and out-maneuver his opponents.

Name: Kirima Liang

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Bending Experience: Waterbender born in the Fire Nation. As a bender, Kirima is considered as an excellent bender. At least, as far as she's concerned. Her main expertise of waterbending is through healing. Learning the skill from her mother who has done nothing but heal as someone who is a part of a Hospital. Her mother taught her everything she could about waterbending, shared to her daughter her own scrolls and all but, of course, learning, in theory, is not as good as learning first hand. Yura had Kirima study under a friend of hers, a more experienced healer that also worked in the same hospital as her, to one day become a doctor that will also help people in need.

In almost every aspect, you can consider Kirima as a true waterbender except in combat, her way of fighting is reminiscent that of a firebender due to being trained in combat by her father early on. While she does practice fighting on her own, she is not the best fighter in the area, something her twin sister loves to remind her time and time again during their sparring matches. She doesn't like to back down, she picks herself up and tries to improve herself for the better.

Nation: Fire Nation

Background: In a spur of events, Yura and Ryujin Liang fell in love, and from there came into life was twins. Kirima and Yuka, who were expected by their father to be renowned firebenders someday. While Yuka had shown an aptitude for firebending at a young age, she became their father's main focus, training her on firebending stances that Kirima would often mimic as she too wanted to join in on bonding with their father, while the older twin had shown no sign of being able to bend. She was believed to be either a late bloomer or a nonbender.

Nevertheless, she didn't get as much favor from her father as Yuka did. Her mother on the other hand gave her more attention than she did to Yuka because of Ryujin's favoritism.

Later on, Kirima showed that she was able to bend. Waterbend, much to her father's dismay on the revelation and her mother's delight. Due to this, Ryujin gave Kirima even less attention while Yura taught her daughter how to heal. Wanting to prove herself, Kirima trained herself in combat through firebending motions that led to her rather aggressive combat style. She didn't want to be a healer, she wanted to be a fighter and serve the Fire Nation but most people tend to look down on her. Especially her twin sister.

A few years passed and not long after, their mother died. She hadn't finished her healing lessons but she made do with the scrolls and texts her mother left for her. She studied vigorously to her mother's wishes of her to become a healer and worked hard under her mother's friend, her Sifu. Sifu Silla had treated her like a daughter more than her father ever did, and while she had been in his care, she always noticed the way he looked at her mother, the way he talks about her, and the sadness that he showed now that she has was gone. Needless to say, he still abided by his promise to Yura and thought Kirima everything that he could and sees a natural talent in healing. While Kirima might hold a rather daughterly relationship with him, he treats Kirima as any other staff of the Hospital during work to give her a good work ethic.

She made a point to ignore her father's disappointment of being a waterbender, and more especially her twin sister's constant taunting. She focused on improving herself in every way that she could, more often than not exercising to release the stress that she gets from her family. She would more often than not, stay at the hospital than be at home, at least in there she is appreciated and gives her a sense of purpose. Upon finding out that Mizuki was going to join in the expedition to find the Avatar, Kirima was quick to follow her best friend, giving a tearful goodbye to Silla and curiosity about what this adventure will bring.

Appearance: FC by Oopartzy
DONx3woUQAAwzIP

Kirima is often seen wearing her medical uniform with the symbolic Fire Nation top-knot. She has a height of five foot and nine inches, hair that falls until her hips, and has a few locks braided to imitate her mother's own hairstyle. Kirima has a rather toned body, slightly muscly but not to the point that it is obvious.

Name: Vi Sato
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Bending Experience: Vi learned waterbending from the waterbending school of the Central Water Tribe. Due to the rigorous curriculum for waterbenders there, as well as the emphasis on combat prowess that is in the Central Water Tribe's culture, she has gained a level of skill equivalent to those her age in the Northern and Southern Water Tribes who have gone through formal military training. Despite her strength, similar to the role the Central Water Tribe itself takes, she isn't one to go out and pick fights, opting only to use her power for self-defense. Aside from combat, Vi also commonly uses her bending to aid in cast-net fishing and to increase the size of waves while surfing.
Nation: Central Water Tribe
Background: Vi's family were fishmongers, an average and typical career in the Central Water Tribe city. From her parents she learned how to optimize the fish caught in each cast of the net while fishing. As she grew up, along with her regular schooling, she started learning waterbending from the waterbending school, as expected of waterbenders in the city's culture. She grew to be a proficient waterbender, both in combat and out, and also learned how to surf because of it. As she learned about the history of the Central Water Tribe, she developed a sense of gratitude for the Avatar who helped originally establish it. That's why when she heard about the Avatar going missing and the search party being formed to find them she felt it was her duty to aid in the effort. The idea of an all-expense-paid trip across the world doesn't sound bad either...

Name: Akira Hirai
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Bending Experience: Akira was taught at one of the best military academies in the Fire Nation, and as such is an incredibly skilled Firebender. Though that being said, most of his combat expierience was in sparring matches and Agni Kais. He has also yet to master Lightning Generation. Every time he tries, it literally blows up in his face.
Nation: Fire
Personality: Think of a Fire Nation citizen. Think of the stereotype. The stoic, patriotic stick in the mud. That is what Akira is. He believes fully in the Fire Nation. Despite all it's flaws, Akira is a patriot through and through, just like his family. His personality reflects his background. He is incredibly calm and polite, with a near fanatical devotion to proper etiquette and protocol. Honor and family mean everything to him, and he'd do pretty much anything for both.Beneath this face of the ideal man, however, is an actual person. The constant pressure of his parents and society's expectations of him in general have led to Akira having horrible anxiety, which isn't helped by his belief that sharing his insecurities would make him seem weak, and by connection, his family. This manifests with him being obsessive, constantly making sure every little detail is perfect and everything works out smoothly.
Background: The Hirai family are the cream of the crop of the Fire Nation, one of the 13 noble families, with the Hirai's having served countless Fire Lord's in the past. They are most famous for their mastery of the Lightning Generation technique, with every Firebender born into the family being expected to master the technique. As the eldest son of three children, Akira was if course expected to live up to the family name, and as such was rigorously trained from the moment he could walk. Constant Firebending lessons, classes, tutors. He never really had a childhood, and as he grew older, he began to regret this. But he was the scion of the family. He couldn't let them down, even if it hurt. So he swallowed every decision that was made for him, every lecture, every lesson. He wasn't surprised when his parents arranged for him to be married to a girl he'd hardly ever met. He figured he wouldn't marry for love, and by now he was okay with it. Well. less okay, and more reserved to his fate. He spent his entire youth desperately trying to master the art of Lightning Generation, but no matter what, he could never succeed. The constant pressure from his parents has caused Akira to develop intense feelings of inadequacy, thus meaning he never has the peace of mind necessary to use lightningbending, which in turns furthers his insecurities and so on and so forth. Currently, he serves in the military as a lieutenant, being given command of a platoon in the family regiment, commonly called "The Lightning Strike." They're a shock regiment, used as a vanguard that establishes a beachhead in an attack, before pushing forward.
Appearance:
5ce759cacf63a4c1c7b22fda44c60317.jpg
Like any Firebender of honor, Akira wears his hair in a traditional topknot, and keeps his appearance very well groomed. He also has a few burn marks he tries to hide from all his failed attempts to use Lightning Generation. To him, they're a physical reminder of his failures. They're mostly on his hands and legs, with a few on his abdomen.

"You know what they say about guys with big hands and feet. They have an easier time playing with big rocks."
Pengfai
Age: 25

Gender: Male

Bending Experience: Earth Bender

'Pull and Push' is Pengfai's motto when it comes to bending,. The 'Pull' most obvious comes from pulling up the earth from the ground, often with small columns, walls, blocks, and what have you. The 'Push' often quickly follows the pulling, having quite literally pushed earth he has bent from the ground (such as small walls) along the ground towards others. Pengfai has a particular love for launching himself with columns or simply creating several small ones as stepping stones. He's used them all too commonly escaping from pursuers.

Nation: Earth Kingdom

Background:

Pengfai had an interesting start in life. Born on the road somewhere in the southeastern Earth Kingdom to a pair of conning criminals, it was practically destined he would follow in his parents' footsteps. Though most children in these circumstances would be considered burdens and scroungers, his parents had shown him as much love as any other one would. Both his father and mother made sure to teach him the professional ways of a conman, from fortune-telling scams, faking injuries, to playing the starving child to riddle targets with guilt into parting with their coins. That, and thieving never went amiss either.

The three travelled throughout towns and cities throughout the Earth Kingdom, performing cons and petty crime to make a few coin. Their way was an unorthodox one, for they never settled in one place before they were travelling somewhere else. Pengfai always had found memories of travelling and taking to this nomadic style, and found it quite peaceful in between being full-time criminals. Such a way of life, however, was never to last, at least with the three of them together. Word of the trio had slipped from one village, wormed its way into an ear into another town, and on the tales of the conmen went. Eventually, they were confronted and chased - Pengfai had evaded capture, though, his parents had proven unlucky. He hasn't seen his parents since he was 10 years old, and finding out anything about them has proven troublesome. He's unaware if they had ended up in prison, or worse, for that matter.

Pengfai eventually weasled his way into other towns of the Earth Kingdom, spending stints in one town before moving to another, living by scraps, conning, and stealing when he could manage it. During his travels, he came across Cho, a Painted Bat-Monkey, who was caught and due to be sold off to poachers. Of course, having this knowledge, Cho became one of Pengfai's stolen goods, better yet, an affectionate companion and literal partner in crime. Note: Painted Bat-Monkeys prove effective for distractions and fast getaways.

Earthbending thieves are unusual to come by, and Pengfai's learning of it proved just as unusual. He was barely an early teenager, around thirteen, when he had discovered he had the power to bend. By that stage, it was frustratingly small; pebbles-worth often crumbling and falling apart before he could even do anything with it. It would only be when he eventually made his way to Ba Sing Se in his later teenage years that he would learn by watching the guards bend, and by copying their stances (when he wasn't running from them at least).

Something about Ba Sing Se kept Pengfai rooted around there. Sure, he unrooted and travelled, but he always came back. His profession as a criminal hadn't changed, and by no means was he an elusive figure. Periods of floating between prison and the outside world have not been unknown to him, and every time he winds up back at that one cell in Ba Sing Se, he and Cho can't help but throw a big grin to the guards there, who sigh and mumble a "Welcome back." Was life truly worth living on the edge if it meant frequent stays in the same jail cell? It was getting boring, Pengfai admitted. His last stint proved too long, too mundane. But it was all he had known. Pengfai was convinced he couldn't change who he was, not even after picking up some sweet tune to play on a lute and considering entertainment as a mainstake for him.

Though, he came to hear of a wide spread search for the Avatar. Perhaps this was just the change of pace he needed! Plus, travel expenses and accomodation paid for? And all to search for some guy who could bend all the elements. Sounded like a breeze to him. And so, with Cho in tow, and perhaps a few songs and tales to spin, Pengfai made for Shui Island, particularly interested to see where this oppurtunity could lead him (hopefully not back in the same prison cell again).

  • "To be born into wealth and prestige, is to in turn thus give back that which has been gained in order to prosper." ~Scholar Chao

At seven years old, following the law like his contemporaries, Jeong began learning how to shoot a crossbow. Unlike a subject in his age group however, he had to undergo the extra mile of studying archery, weapon play, and hand-to-hand combat on top of learning about the family business, it's connections, and duties. Academic and physical education, were key. This rigorous training and educational process was both a tradition for his family, and a test to show he could be dedicated to respect the privileges given to him by his birth. Training shifted based on one's favored weapon, but for Jeong who was the relative and assistant of a long line of metal crafters that served directly to the crown, army, and people, he could not pick one. Thus in exchange for expertise in one weapon, he grew to choose versatility in many. By 8 years old he had picked one of his most favored weapon, the chain staff as his ally in honor of his maternal Air Nomad heritage.

The thing that separated Chiyou from most other nations was that it trained both military and youth in large groups regardless of social status. There was no division in the beginning; you were equal on the battle field even if in society, you weren't. It bonded the upper class with their subjects and charge; for nine months between other activities, six hours a day would be spent in his first stage of training: the training of the body and strengthening of the mind. Sleeping in would be a sin Jeong would never commit, slacking in training would be a sign of disrespect, and mingling with the important would become common place given his social standing- especially when he joined a group led by a friend of family from the early days of Byeong and Cho's military career.

All this work, was a lesson his mother often reminded him of. To understand that it was not just one famous person's name in a history book that helped change a nation but it was the collective effort of many. The adaptations to chi-blocking could be traced back to his ancestor Fumihiro but it was the students that continued his art style who deserved as much thanks; the hired blacksmith that started their family legacy- Daisuke-- but there were also those who had contributed in construction or changes that were not talked often about that Jeong learned of from his classmates in arms. To make them proud, to make his family proud, to make the people he loved happy, Jeong would have to understand that even if they were among the top- they were not better than anyone else just because they had the social status, influence, and wealth that stated otherwise. They simply had more responsibilities than others. The most important duty of which he'd learn soon.

As family custom, at 12 Jeong was exposed to a dangerous and powerful government secret. One that solidified his belief in duty, influenced his life decision upon turning 15, the age of maturity across the Islands. This secret was the craftsmanship of a weapon that saw very little use outside of the mysterious militia sect, the Iron Belchers; the historic game changers in defending the Southeast Wall of Iron against incursion. With this knowledge, and then later the horrible murder of two relatives, Jeong took fury and shaped it into ambition. Focusing on becoming a Iron Belcher, he joined his father and uncle, both who held seats in the Metal Council, to increase his skill in the creation of weapons in battle and defense. No longer was his focus on being another "cool" or "awesome" soldier. No, now, his aim was to be a leader in the defense against toxicity. For several years he worked steadily, building his career- falling for a merchant's son was an accident, but it helped stabilize him. And as time went on, so did his growing network of connections.

The Ku were known for being allies to many merchants in a economy that was stabilizing and blacksmiths with a strong bond built for generations between the Yu. That was all most of the public needed to know. So when a cousin of the crown was reported dead during an ambush out on Saso's Island- the train derailed and most of its occupants captured who were employees of several merchant guilds. Jeong was happy to join his comrades in armed battle to hunt down the criminal scum of their neighbors. From 21 to 25, he spent four years travelling- acting as a military police officer, an agent of the crown, and a hunter of filth. He saw little action in his first two years but in the remainder when tensions rose between a criminal sect based in Saso Island- battle was inevitable.

Now in the present, after hearing so many theories and reports about the missing Avatar, he's accepted the petition to go on a hunt for the one who can bring back balance to this chaotic world.

Still kinda a WIP

Name: Zeena Kel
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Bending Experience: White Fire Bending

Zeena was trained from the time she could walk in the art of high intensity burn. Her bending style is almost unique to the inner teachings of her noble house and seems to carry with it the slow and methodical nature her noble house was known for. The traits of her bending style reflect the inner workings of her family, trading speed and versatility for range, volume and intensity. Her style of bending is methodical, slow and deliberate, bringing a long stance together to create a yield capable of engulfing a wide area in high intensity flames. Like those of her house their bending seems to bring the temperature up making it capable of burning through static defenses and overwhelming formations. Despite this it trades off her ability to move, act and engage in duelist like combat with another bender, instead causing her to rely on short bursts and her own physical agility to make due until another can create distance between she and her attacker.

This form of bending is best described as a form of siege warfare and artillery, allowing users to control the fighting field from afar and cause damage over a wide area rather than being engaged with a single target. While impressive and undeniably effective it is self limiting, causing her to rely on those under her command to back her up if a target or targets manage to close the gap.

Nation: Fire Nation
Background:

Born to one of the 13 noble families of the fire nation Zeena from a young age was thrust into the family politics. Starting from the time she could walk her grand father thrust her into training to follow in the foot steps of her ancestors past. She was to be a soldier and enforcer of the Fire Lord, a hidden blade created for control when none existed. For nearly two hundred years her family had stood firm in its place, staying while others had risen and fallen solely through their iron grip and resounding influence through their control of the fire nations secret police. It was this doctrine and line of thinking that was forced onto Zeena causing her to step into line with the rest of her family.

Their training doctrine had kept Zeena from developing her own unique personality, instead forging her into that which her father desired her to be upon the passing of her grandfather. At age 10 she was escalated into learning how to bend fire in a significantly different way from most of her peers. Hidden away her teaching was all inclusive, keeping her from talking to those outside of the family. It was then that she was inducted into the deeper intricacies of what all they handled, the day to day management of their part of the kingdom while beginning to teach her what truly made them keep their influence... their stubborn and observant mannerisms.

'Your place is a birth right and do not forget that.'

Turning 16 Zeena received her first assignment, a test of her skill and loyalty to the fire lord and to her family. Having spent the past twelve years in training and education she had yet to face a truly substantial obstacle. Yet, when the opportunity to prove herself finally came she did not falter, instead taking up the mantle she was being forced to bear with a level of pride. She had been sent the Gong Islands as a member of the fire nations Military Police, a liaison to ensure that the fire lords desires were implemented where he desired them to be. Her time on the islands had been a form of mental awakening for the young woman as for the first time she was beyond the direct influence of her father and his desires for her to conform to a certain code.

Being able to stretch her metaphorical wings she dove into her duties with an almost unchained drive and desire to see her job done. Rising rather quickly Zeena stood out as she rose through the ranking structure before reaching Lieutenant just before her 20th birthday. Through ruthless and unabated action Zeena had left an impact in her area of influence. Despite this the issue plaguing Saso remained, though diminished through her actions and the actions of those under her. Her time in the Gong Isles finally came to an end with a new assignment to accompany an expedition to find the missing Avatar. Taking the new charge up with a renewed sense of pride she prepared herself to be in front of those that did not know the customs of the fire nation, knowing their mannerisms and specific patterns would be different... and tantalizing for her to learn.

Jamyang.jpgName: Jamyang

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Height: 6' 2"

Bending Experience: He started training as an air bender when he was quite young. The Southern Air Temple was very strict, very heavily focusing on defensive, evasive measures with possible sneak attacks.

Nation: Previously the Southern Air Temple, now part of the Mazu Turfs.

Personality: He is a go-with-the flow kind of guy, and very serious about the subject of freedom. He aims to give people compliments to boost their confidence in themselves, and is oblivious if someone ever ends up taking it as flirting. When the flirting gets turned towards him in an obvious way, he will back off, hard.

Background: Growing up in the Southern Air Temple was pretty similar, but more unfortunate, to the other Temples - airbenders focused on monk-hood, learning the art of the air in the form of defense, splashing in some offensive moves that only the Southern Air Temple teaches. The Southern Air Temple had probably been hit the hardest after Avatar Passang's death, being subject to pirate raids looking for ancient artifacts that Air Temples are stereotypically known to hold. These raids shown the inhabitants of the Southern Air Temple that they were an easy target, due to the past passiveness established since ever. Jamyang grew up under strict hands, children not allowed as much play as the other Temples. When Jamyang learned of the existence of the Mazu Turfs at a young age, he grew enamored by the stories about them. Growing determined to join, Jamyang had started keeping an ear out for any visits at hand, as it could be difficult to leave the Temple without a ship or a steed that could go over land or water. He had none of those.

When they had finally come by, Jamyang was twenty years old and signed the contract to join. The change in attitude from the Southern Air Temple to the Mazu Turfs was almost culture shock for Jamyang. He quickly made friends with a firebender, whom he loves to tease and call "DT" and learned from her how to better socialize outside of what the Air Temples preach, though he still defaults to being as nice and understanding as was taught through his childhood. From her and other Mazu Turf members, he would play around with the idea of other bending stances, curious what they would do to the properties of air, though realizing that the most stable is still yet the normal style.

Naturally, being with the Mazu Turfs, he determined he'd help in the expedition for the missing Avatar, due to circumstances that the Mazu are experiencing in the absence of them.
