Fandom Attack on Titan

I'll join if u start one. Usually when one starts a aot room they do the regular we are graduating and have to choose where we want to spend our lives then we all fight titans. In some way or another.

Attack on Titan is a fantastic series!

I'll gladly lend some advice if you would accept it.

So here's what I would do if I were to start an RP of this nature:

Consider the following elements for the RP

* Are your characters going to be humans, Titan Shifters, or a mix of both? (This presuming that you're focusing on the human survival side)

* Will you be sticking to the manga/anime lore or creating your own as far as the history of the Titan and human conflict?

* Will you be using the original lore and characters such as Eren and Mikasa?

* Will you give your players the option of using various types of Titan combating weapons/items such as the original ODM gear, blades, guns, etc? Or does everyone have to conform to a single set of materials?

* If you allow Titan Shifters, what kind of limitations will you put on the Titan forms such as height, physical strength, and extra abilities such as Eren's "The Coordinate?" (Obviously if you give everyone too much leash here they'll come up with abilities and strengths that will come too close to God-Modding for comfort, so be careful here)

Those are the bare bone basic mechanics an RP like this would demand of you if you make it. Here is a list of more subtle but very important details that you'll also need to consider:

* When it comes to human/Titan conflict, how long has it been going on? (Your players should know the history before you begin)

* How much time do you expect to pass in the RP before it comes to a conclusion? (Days, months, years?)

* Where do you begin for your characters? Before graduation? During graduation into the ranks? After graduation?

* What kind of player character interactions do you want to take place? Will you encourage romance, friendship, a mix of both?

(Obviously having a bunch of self serving introverts who care little to nothing for working with others won't do for this kind of RP, so I'd suggest putting a limit on introverted behavior if not banning it altogether. The name of the game in AOT is survival of humanity as a whole, not survival of the lone wolf character type that comes from a lazy role-player who just wants to focus on their own character)

So that's what I'd consider for building an RP about Attack on Titan. It's going to be a challenge given how lush the original story is and what kind of information you have at your disposal for making it, but I think you can do it! Go for it!

Kyero Bomb!!!

Interested.

I suggest that the RP set in the Northern region, since it's never really covered that much in the canon.

I was just thinking of making an interest check myself, with an idea for a plotline and the like. For the sake of IDGAFF if someone steals my idea too much cos whatever I'm just going to post it here.

My thoughts were an Alternate universe of sorts that takes place twenty years or so post where the manga is now. The problem is spoliers, so if you fear spoilers don't click the spoiler tag otherwise, spoiler alert, you'll find spoilers =P

Manga to Present- With the aide of the work of the Survey Corps, the primary threats have largely been eliminated, including many of the Titan Shifters. During the conflict Wall Rose was breached like Wall Maria, and even Wall Sina was breached for a short amount of time, resulting in the loss of far too many lives. Despite this Eren and his comrades worked hard together with many other brave souls and a few Titan Shifters to eventually fight back and drive the Titans from Wall Sina before sealing it, but not without cost of many of the soldiers and Titan Shifters. Included in this cost were the lives of the king and those is Mistras, which had been heavily targeted by Aberrants.

During the next six years after the 'Sealing of Sina' the population within the inner wall has grown greatly and the outer Eastern, Western and Northern districts have all formed their own Kingdoms, whilst Sina now stands alone. During these six years many of the abberrant and Titan Shifters disappeared, including Eren and a select number of his company, leaving Armin as the elected leader of the Militant yet benevolent run Wall Sina.

Mean while the outer districts had also been growing, their populations angry at being abandoned. Despite surviving, none of the current districts have faired well. The Wall Maria Districts have largely fallen to a sort of gang rule, filled with outlaws and fiends who rule by force and fear. Faring slightly better, the Wall Rose Districts have kept much of their independence, and despite remaining loosely connected through means of the Survery Corps. they largely have stood alone, and there have been rumours spanning over the past years that they may try to run a coup to invade and take over Wall Sina.

Present Day- Wall Sina's military is well numbered but admittedly stretched thin. Trying to keep in contact with the outer Districts of Wall Rose, as well as keep the peace in Wall Sina coupled with trying to fend off the Titans has taken it's toll, but somehow Armin's ability to inspire and lead has managed to keep everything calm.

Armin has claimed that if Wall Sina is going to survive, they have to find a way to retake Wall Rose and force the Titans out. While his plans has encountered many obtacles, he recently revealed the depth of it to his most loyal compatriots. To gather a special force of men and women to be gathered. They would be broken up into teams of ten or so, and within those ranks would be at least one, at most two, Titan Shifters. Once gathered they would go out and clear Titans whilst the Titan Shifters would implant massive pillars or beams of wood into the ground to allow for a safer route for the Survey Corps. to follow and keep them from becoming trapped in open ground. The Titan Shifters, however, had largely remained in hiding for fear of persecution or forced service, so Armin has publicly announced rewards for any Titan Shifter who would step forth and publicly serve humanity by helping them retake Wall Rose.

Plot- We would comprise one of the teams Armin had been talking about, with only a couple Titan Shifters(awarded to those willing who had the best Character Sheets for the roles. It's also to keep the 'Hurrdurr I are be the bestest Titan Shifter evar' issues down, as I have quit roleplays for turning into Titan Shifter Circlejekrs before) and the rest being regular soldiers.

While the initial idea is to re-establish safe routes to the Districts of Wall Rose and to eliminate Titans, it will also become apparent that there are psychotic gangs of survivors, a crazy cult and possibly even a District it self involved with trying to stop us meaning it won't just be Titans we're fighting.

Further extrapolation upon this isn't hard to do.

Tech- Having been revealed that revolvers and cartridge rounds have been suppressed by the Govt. to control things, I think it can reasonably be assumed that they exist now that it's been twenty years and the King is dead. I would imagine that early lever actions rifles and revolvers now exist and can be used by those skilled enough to pick out the eyes of Titans, but outside of those uses they largely serve the same purpose. There could also be ones of large enough calibre to possible blow of fingers to penetrate enough to hit the body of a Titan Shifter in form, but that'd be up for debate.

The 3DMG gear would still be the primary means of movement, but now each one has an extra pair of wire spools. The idea is that if a Titan grabs your wires you can disconnect and engage your second spool. An improvement in gas management has also nearly doubled the mount of distance one tank can carry you. Further more a new method of blade forging allows for a near tripling of the length of time it takes for blades to wear down.

Small engine powered vehicles, such as bicycles or carts now exist, but are slower than horses. They are a convenience more than anything else.

Other stuff that still needs messed with-

  • A plot for which district wants to take down Wall Sina and why.
  • Gangs to be made.
  • The Cult needs hammered out, but the idea is they live in underground caves and intentionally sacrifice people to the Titans for appeasement from the gods.
  • Listening to any other ideas people have.
  • Figuring out how involved canonical characters are going to be.(I figured Bertolt, Annie, Ymir and Reiner are just listed as out of the picture, with no conclusive answer. Same with Eren and Mikasa, though the assumption is that the latter and going to where the former four came from.)
  • Making sure peoples don't carbon copy their characters from the series =P

Any other thoughts?

@Bullet Tooth Tony @too much idea

The reasoning, by the by, for putting into the future in an AU is that it gives us a multitude of wiggle room points to work with without fear of stepping on the canonical details too much.. Further more it gets us out fo the idea of either having to work during the canonical events, or in those five years spans in between.

We could to a pre-Eren, but as the canon has shown, they didn;t have the 3DMG quite yet nor know of the weak spots that much.

Actually the 3DMG was initially created about 70 years before the main manga/anime started

Ture, but they actually didn;t have much happen during that time period is what I was more over getting at.

Oh, and I also feel like I'd want to partake in an AoT RP that also focuses on some character growth. 2D 'I am the Ultimate Lone Wolf Badass' characters like @Kyero pointed out tend to show up a lot, and I feel like the AoT series has soooo many openings for good character development, just look at the whole Mikasa/Eren dynamic in the series.

Interesting idea, and while I realize you had this as an alternate universe kind of thing, I see a couple of potential issue with the story as you've suggested so far: The population explosion and the kingdoms forming amongst the surviving districts.

Wall Sina, as the smallest of the walls with a diameter of around 300 miles, seems large at first but it's really not. Supporting the remainder of humankind, even with its underground districts, is not something it's prepared to do if a serious population explosion occurs.

For each district to become its own Kingdom is rather unrealistic as well, given how small they are. The districts (which are above ground) are around 1-2 miles long at most given their appearance in both the manga/anime unless you plan to alter their size to 10 miles or greater which would be more fitting of a Kingdom. But at 1-2 miles long, that's barely enough to be called a city.

If a population explosion occurs within Wall Sina, with only 300 miles to its available space, the famine would skyrocket. Food production, fresh water acquisition, clothing, metals, and more are heavily limited in a space like that. Such a space would barely be enough to support what population Wall Sina already had given that we don't even know if the land is fertile enough for crops or raising livestock. How many trees are left? Are there enough in that limited space to build enough housing for the exploding population, or are they going to be forced to live together in cramped spaces with other families?

Remember that even though your idea is alternate universe, you have to consider things like this if you want the idea to be credible. The idea that such a small space with tiny districts could support multiple Kingdoms, let alone an explosion in the population, is highly unrealistic as I said earlier.

I'm not trying to kill your idea. I'm just trying to get you to think a little bit more deeply about the consequences of what your ideas entail. Creativity comes with a price, and keeping things coherent and believable gets progressively more difficult the bigger your ideas are.

This is one of the reasons why some of your favorite authors are most widely known for a single massive piece of work such as J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, Hobbit, and Silmarillion which are all part of a single massive piece of lore. For me, one of my favorites is Terry Goodkind, author of the Sword of Truth series which is currently going beyond 14 individual novels at this point all telling the story of Seeker, Richard Rahl and Mother Confessor Kahlen Amnell.

So I encourage you to think about those kinds of things before making an RP on Attack on Titan, and I'd start by asking and answering for yourself these essential questions if you plan on continuing:

* Are you going to use characters who are canon like Eren? If so, who gets to portray them, if anyone?

(Remember that if you allow and take the more well known canon character(s) such as Eren or Mikasa for yourself, you can expect more than half of the people hoping to join will not do so because they wanted that particular role. Given that it's alternate universe, you don't have to use canon characters which would be better for everyone though you will have to be fairly strict on your character creation rules and guidelines if you want to prevent the badass lone wolfs I mentioned before in my previous responses)

* Does the population have a way to keep up with its exploding numbers with respect to food, clothing, available living space, stone and metals for streets and building reconstruction, fertile ground for farming and raising livestock, etc?

* How many Titan Shifters remain?

* What has happened to the governmental system? (Who's the new King/Queen? Remember that Historia Reiss was crowned queen at the end of the manga as it stands now, so if you're using canon you have to mention her at some point)

* What about the Military Police? Given their level of corruption, are they still around or were they abolished for fear of their betrayal happening again?

* How about the Survey Corps? Are they still around?

* Is there an all new kind of police/soldier system in place which replaces the previous two in favor of a more strict and controlled environment so that corruption and betrayal are more easily noticed?

* If the answer to the previous question is "yes", what is this system called and how does it work?

* Of the population which remains, how many are actually going to support the idea of a new King/Queen, or the creation of new Kingdoms at all?

(Keep in mind that in order to establish new Kingdoms, the people have to agree to it and all have to want it as well. If the people don't want it to happen, it's not happening. They are going to be sharing space, resources, and housing with the rest of their fellow man so if they don't have a mind to do so under a private and separate body of governance/leadership, they won't do so)

* And the last question (which has a subset of its own questions to answer) is this: Where is the RP going?

The manga/anime are obvious in that humanity is aiming to wipe out the Titans and take back there dominance of the food chain so that they can begin expanding out and rebuilding their world.

But where are you going with this RP?

Is the final goal the same, or have you altered it in some way?

What kind of major plot points are going to serve as the most important to the story as you see it, and which plot points will be more for development on the side? (I encourage you to make a list for yourself detailing the important plot points versus those which are more for personal development among the cast of characters).

So that's my advice and my concerns about your idea so far. Hopefully I didn't put you off or anything. As I said, I'm not trying to kill your idea or say it's a bad one. Far from it. I'm just hoping to get you to think a bit more deeply about this as I take role-playing pretty seriously. If I'm going to immerse myself in a world, I want to know as much about how it works and, more importantly, why it works. If the world which has been created can't convince me that it works and that the GM has a real plan in place for the beginning, middle, and end as well as everything in-between and behind the scenes, then I typically won't join it.

Most players aren't like me in that respect. In fact many would join an Attack on Titan RP just because it says "Attack on Titan". But I'm not, as I consider myself a story-teller first and role-player second, even when I've joined someone else's RP. I want to know that my character will have a story to tell in a world which can be supported under its own lore so that things don't fall apart when I start delving more deeply into things.

I didn't mean to do so, but I have caused more than one RP which I've joined in the past to lose members (myself included) who didn't believe the GM knew what they were doing after I started asking questions like those I've given you in this response about their RP world. They either had no answers to give (such as "I don't know"), or came up with answers on the spot which contradicted previous answers and lore which they had created. Thus when I called them out on the issues and contradictions, others left the RP because the GM hadn't created a world which stood on its own two feet, so to speak.

I want to make sure that you know how to make your RP stand on its own two feet by asking yourself all the right questions before you start. I have found through nearly 17 years of RP experience that RP's fail not because of disinterest or a lack of participation, but because the RP is not strong enough to survive beyond the first leg of the adventure after the characters come together for the first time. Once the adventure begins, interest plummets because the GM has no direction or can't get people interested enough in the world they've created once they have gotten used to the initial "wow" factor of those first few essential posts.

Just my (rather long) two cents in all this, and trying to help out in my own weird way.

I'm going to tackle these points first, then go about explaining some other decisions and answering other questions at the end.

* Are you going to use characters who are canon like Eren? If so, who gets to portray them, if anyone?

Hopefully someone that can do it well, and in that sense more than likely not myself. I'm terribad at portraying characters that already exist or aren't my own. The best bet for that would be the same for how we'd do the Titan Shifters by stating 'Hey, we need someone to protray this character accurately, if you think you can do it please PM me an audition of sorts in which you play the character and I will post the Auditions in an OOC post under Spoiler tags with the auditioners name and we vote.'

Unless of course everyone auditions, then I'd pick it out myself, but you get where I'm going with this.

* Does the population have a way to keep up with its exploding numbers with respect to food, clothing, available living space, stone and metals for streets and building reconstruction, fertile ground for farming and raising livestock, etc?

The kingdom isn't doing well at all. The plus side to Wall Sina being breached for a time and having a large portion of the population eliminated has helped, but things are getting bad. I would imagine building are starting to become multilevel, such as the housing blocks they tend to have in the U.K. Further more rationing and restricting people from having children, while unpopular, have been implemented. Many people aren't happy, and it's part of why retaking the Walls is such a vital task.

* How many Titan Shifters remain?

Unknown. With how bad things got with Wall Sina the Titan paranoia is ever present, and the fact that there were Titan Shifters that attacked humans hasn't helped. Most are staying in hiding, and those that answered Armin's public call did so in the secrecy of 'recruitment stations' where they could admit to being shifters without fear of being exposed to the public. There's really no big reason to pinpoint a number at this exact moment either.

* What has happened to the governmental system? (Who's the new King/Queen? Remember that Historia Reiss was crowned queen at the end of the manga as it stands now, so if you're using canon you have to mention her at some point)

Historia hasn't been heard from just to keep things simple. It would seem she disappeared about the same time Eren and Mikasa did, though no one knows where to. It's part of why Armin has been running things, and I actually meant to mention previously but got carried away on another point. Largely Armin has gathered up the rest of the Survey Corps and those willing to fight for the right cause and work with them to try to maintain order in Wall Sina. When Wall Sina was breached from the south originally any and all military members fled to the North. Whether or not they died is up in the air and will more than likely come up in a plot point.(No Spoilers and the like)

* What about the Military Police? Given their level of corruption, are they still around or were they abolished for fear of their betrayal happening again?

Ran like bitches. Again, unsure if they died out, but with rumours swirling of one of the cities plotting against Wall Sina, that should tell you something.

* How about the Survey Corps? Are they still around?

For the most part, though they will likely be renamed. Pretty much anyone who actually wanted to help humanity stood in defence of Sina and are still there. There are obviously pockets in the Wall Rose districts as well, but due to them being so separated they are beginning to become separate entities.

* Is there an all new kind of police/soldier system in place which replaces the previous two in favor of a more strict and controlled environment so that corruption and betrayal are more easily noticed?

Essentially answered each question about the policing systems in the previous question, but its good cos I can review what I've stated before. I believe Armin would create a system that is far more regulated to stamp out corruption, and given Armin's hand on approach, he probably keeps an eye out for it himself as well. Again, haven't made a name for them yet.

* If the answer to the previous question is "yes", what is this system called and how does it work?

I really need to stop answering these with the last sentence of the previous question, eh? xD

I'd still have to hammer it down, but essentially Armin would review the two people he would choose to aid him, who would choose and review the four people under them, who Armin would also review, and so on and so forth. So if you are going to be elected for a position of power amongst the ranks, you will be reviewd by you superior, his superior, his superior and so on and so forth until Armin himself reviews you to ensure that you aren't going to be an issue. It's a long system, but it keeps bad people out of power and the rest /should/ sort itself out. Regardless people are still people.

* Of the population which remains, how many are actually going to support the idea of a new King/Queen, or the creation of new Kingdoms at all?

I know I stated each district became it's own kingdom, but I was more over just meaning that in a figurative sense. The districts of Wall Rose have been alone for a long time with no aid other than themselves, and because of this have formed independent governments. While I have not chosen a system for each one yet, I will, but at the moment I want the skeleton before I add the muscle, if that makes sense. The belief is that by retaking Wall Rose, and then Wall Maria, they can hopefully aid and alleviate the suffering of everyone, and Armin, with his big heart, thinks that it is all the kingdom needs to support him.

* And the last question (which has a subset of its own questions to answer) is this: Where is the RP going?

Eventually to see at least Wall Rose retaken. Wall Maria is obviously a much larger undertaking and we could either find reason to stop at Wall Rose, or, should it work out, the construction of a sequel to allow more interest, a few more players and the retaking of Wall Maria obviously.

The more immediate plot, of course, is Wall Rose, and to try to stabilise the crumbling hope that humanity will survive by eliminating the threats that would deter it. Just like the Survey Corps. we will be fighting to fix a world marred, and that's not including personal vendettas made for character by players, or for our brothers and sisters in arms as we begin to have our team become closer.

I feel that the RP setting is one in which it's very easy to find a way to become emotionally invested in one's character, and no one person would legitimately want to see Wall Rose taken for exactly the same reasons, with a Titan Shifter possibly looking to secure safety and money for a suffering family, or a girl that simply just wants to instil hope into the world.

On a more lateral level, as stated, there will be a couple bandit groups leading to some plot revelation there, coupled with trying to figure out who's plotting against Wall Sina, as well as dealing with an insane cult that sacrifices which gives hardened points that give a solid direction to follow whilst we work on the above.

The manga/anime are obvious in that humanity is aiming to wipe out the Titans and take back there dominance of the food chain so that they can begin expanding out and rebuilding their world.

But where are you going with this RP?

The immediate goal of humanity is to retake the walls, but as stated above, the players personal goals are what I'm eager to see in an RP. I believe that the point of an RP is to provide a fully functioning body, and that the players are what gives it it's life. Maybe our crew strays off path to visit the childhood home of a grieving team member, maybe not, but I personally would love to see an RP where the teamwork and camaraderie you see in the anime and manga are brought forward as they strive together to bring about a common goal, which is to help each other get to were they need to be.

Now as for the earlier points about population sizes and issue with the districts becoming their own kingdoms.

I figured population regulation and building vertically will help with a decent amount of their issues there. It's obviously not a proper fix, but it's all they've got, you know?

As for the Districts, the Rose Districts have formed their own means of governing, and I will get them hammered down soon enough, or if anyone wants to submit one go for it. The Maria districts however are largely just crime hell holes now where ruling gangs have run of the place instead of a proper government. They maintain population through regularly killing people since the rules there pretty much don't exist.

Further more, the odd ballsy bandit attacks, corruption killings and Cult sacrifices also aid in keeping the population lower than it should or could be when coupled with disease and starvation that are already prevalent.

The overall summary for all the walls is that it's a cramped place with disease due to the close quarters and weak immune systems from lack of proper food. People are scared, hungry angry and desperate, and Armin, lacking his friends, is doing everything he can to hold it all together. And now he's giving an opportunity for a select few to go out and fix things to the best of their ability.

Keep in mind, this is mostly all just thought up literally like, ten minutes before that first post I did too, so I haven't expanded nearly as much as I could have, and I usually bounce ideas of people or collaborate for larger RP projects like this.

[QUOTE="Bullet Tooth Tony]I like all these ideas/

Yea, I'd love to be able to get a big one going. So far not many others have said anything though, and I don't think I'd make the best GM for an AoT RP

I really like the sound of that rp and if it started I'd love to join, but after this amount of time I don't think it will :(

I'd start it myself but I'm really not that good as a GM yet.
