They were down for brunch now and Evelina's cheeks were still a faint pink from Noah's offhand compliment back in the bathroom. Did he genuinely think she looked pretty without makeup? Or was he just saying that because he knew it would make her happy? Evie wasn't exactly sure, but she'd take the compliment regardless. It made her feel good inside. His words bounced around in her mind throughout the meal, though she stayed relatively quiet despite the constant chatter around her. She was still tired from being woken up so early and she knew that if Noah was going to constantly wake her up at that time that she would have to get to bed earlier each night. If she didn't and became sleep deprived instead, she would turn into an actual monster, she was sure of it. By the time the meal came to an end and they were out on the beach for the volleyball competition, Evie was feeling a tad more awake. She'd had a couple cups of coffee with her food and was feeling the effects of it finally. Once everyone had gathered down on the sand, Madeleine and her fiancé made their way to the front of the group. Evelina watched, putting her dark hair up into a high ponytail as it was decided Madi and Joshua would play against each other but choose who would be on their teams.
Of course, it wasn't exactly a surprise when Madeleine called Noah onto her team. Evie wasn't blind; she'd noticed the way her sibling had been eyeing the man since he'd arrived at the beach house. But to her surprise, Joshua called her up next, onto his team. She rose a brow, briefly glancing at her fake boyfriend, before stepping forward to join Josh's side. She'd changed into a proper beach outfit after brunch, but decided to re-tie her shirt while she waited for the teams to assemble.
Sure enough, it didn't take long and before Evie knew it, they were on their respective sides of the net and starting the game. But as Joshua taunted Noah, the girl found herself frowning and stepping over to elbow Joshua in the side. "Shut up and serve already, dumbass," she smirked at him, hoping to egg him on.
What she wouldn't even admit to herself, though, was that hearing Joshua tease Noah like that sparked something inside of her. She wasn't sure what, but it didn't sit well and she wanted to put an end to it before it was taken too far.
