Other At what age did you start role-playing and what made you stay?

When I first started roleplaying, I didn't even know that I was. At 10, I got access to a computer and played Fiesta Online. That was the shit for me, and the people I played with would do things like *huggles* and *bops you on the head*. I picked it up pretty quick, and that was my first instance of roleplay.

When did I officially start forum roleplaying? Around 12, I created an account on Gaia Online. Found roleplay from there, and now here we are 10 years later. Roleplaying helped me be more literate, but also made me somewhat of a grammar nazi. My boyfriend makes little mistakes sometimes like saying the word "hanged" when he meant to say "hung", drives me nuts. o 3o

I was 14 and started in an RP guild on Gaia online. Met a lot of friends there and moved our stories too Skype and other forum based sites like RPGateway. Got into D&D and tabletop gaming soon after and I have just been hooked ever since.

I was 14 years old when I stumbled into the land of Quizilla. At first I just kinda bumbled around the forum answering questions and joining discussions. Then I saw these " Stories" between two or more people and I joined in. Of course, after the site was dismantled I lost contact with most of my friends and I kinda just moved on.
Haha, yooo, I totally started forum roleplaying on Quizilla as well. Is it wrong I remember the drama of the forums more than the roleplaying?

Anyway, I started roleplaying around 2004 when my friends and I started a D&D campaign that lasted until our DM moved away in senior year. We'd play everyday in my friend's shed. I had a swashbuckler that captured his own ship and she had the other PCs as crew. Man, that was such a fun game.

Man, fourteen years ago. I feel so old now.

I was just a fourteen-year-old weeb when I started roleplaying on Gaia Online (11 years ago wow). I think I stayed into it mainly because it was where I made all my best friends. Not to mention I fell in love with the story building aspects of roleplay and getting to write out intense romances and drama. I think after awhile, I realized real life can never really compete with fictional worlds.

I really wanna say I was like, 10? I was super young and on Neopets at the time. My cousin had convinced me to join her on the Roleplay boards so we could write together. I've been in and out of the hobby but I honestly stayed because it lets me escape from real life for a little bit. I know that's super weird but I like having a moment where I can put myself in the mind of my character. Plus, most of my closest friends I've made through roleplaying!

I was barely 13, and I had discovered Gaia Online (Go Gaia back then). A friend of mine joined the website during lunch at school on the library computer while I watched, and he made it look interesting, so when I got home that day I did the same. I was hooked pretty fast, and I found roleplaying almost right away.

I'll be honest, I don't remember my first roleplay. I know I preferred OC RPs, and tended to stick with fantasy based ones. (Looks like not much has changed, heh.)

I've made lifelong friends through roleplaying, and believe it or not, I met my significant other through a roleplay he started on Gaia over ten years ago. I thoroughly enjoy writing, especially from a character's perspective, and I love crafting an adventure with a partner that leaves us both excited.

Sharing something that brings me joy with another person is something I'll treasure, always, and I hope I'll get to keep doing it for many years to come. Considering all the wonderful people that I've met through this hobby, it'll always be something I hold near and dear.

I had to have been like 12... (Not that long.. but still not ago long enough)

I got the Sims 2 and I was super happy and tried to look stuff up about the game and stumbled upon Modthesims. It took like a month or two to find the Rp tab but once I did.. oh boy.

I joined this alternative-housing Rp (Yeah it was.. rough.. with stereotypes) and had a like a 14-year-old character called Fern who wore a cherry necklace 24/7, had a stuffed cat named Fami, and enjoyed coloring. It was the worst one I've ever done, and I've done some bad ones in my time.

I don't even know why I kept doing it. I guess the whole different-person thing made it fun. The Theatre program made me realize that part, that I enjoy being other people sometimes.

I was about 11 when I started to roleplay on Quotev. This'll sound weird but I stayed because I enjoyed the interactions between characters and the actions. As a kid, I never had too many friends who would stay by my side so it was nice to meet people who had similar interests as I did.,,

I started roleplaying when I was 8. It was great interacting with different people, and it let me let out my creativity in a new way. I began roleplaying while texting, until now, and I still roleplay pretty much every day.

I remember clearly that I had just barely turned twelve (so I've been RPing for about 9 years I guess). My friend told me about FooPets... and I started RPing on the forums there.
They've long since gotten rid of the forums lol. (Well not entirely, but the RPing forum is definitely gone.)

I've kept on RPing just because I've always loved writing. And writing with other people adds in a certain element of surprise that makes it really interesting; sometimes you don't know exactly how your RP partner will reply or what their character will do in a given situation, and it can really keep me on the edge of my seat!

I believe I was about seventeen when I started roleplaying. I wanted to work on my writing skills and I really enjoyed it.

I was 15 and I ran across an RP on Fanfiction.net. That RP ended, but it left a big impression on me. It was so much fun, I've been at it ever since.

i was eleven or ten i think.
it was because i literally had little to no friends in person, and it was easier for me to make friends when i was roleplaying..
and also because the stories i would make with other people were really creative and.. i guess whimsical at that time.

I think seventeen or eighteen years old so roughly twelve years ago.

I was introduced to the roleplay section of chicken smoothie after making a pixel adoptable shop

I don't remember lol. I just started again because I'm lonely and depressed and it makes me happy

OMG I am also on GAIA.

For me, I was about 14 years old (geez... 10 years ago already?!) And I honestly had no clue what role-playing was until I accidentally stalked a friend on the site I was on (Gaia) and well... that got me curious. I joined a Bleach role-play with no idea whatsoever what to expect and what to do. The guild captain for the role-play was pretty cool as he explained to me the basics and what a "character skeleton" meant. Soooooo cringey... I mean, I probably still am, but more so back then.

Eventually I got the gist of it (more or less) and started doing more and more, except they were one-liners at the time.

Role-playing has had its ups and downs with me, but I always find myself returning to it. Immersing myself into a world I can create and discussing ideas with other people has always been the most incredible thing for me to experience, and all without having the pressure of being a blogger, journalist, or author.

I started when I was 13. I feel like most people did cause thats the age where we realized we dont really need our parents’ permission to go online... I started on a site called Figment and it was for young writers. Before that it was Ink something.... It’s a long story of why I started and why I stayed. I just really loved getting to make stories with people.

I did LARPing as a kid if that counts. Since we were poor and didn't have internet and our video game system constantly taken away because ONE out of 7 of us fucked up, we mostly did a pretend world. This world was an incredibly weird mixture of:

YuGiOh
Once Upon A Time
Wizard101
DnD Tropes and Classes

Those 3 with just general High Fantasy gave me the most fun experiences of my childhood. We talked in a forum-like way, raided each other's worlds both on paper and verbally, alliances, wars, betrayals.

I began RPing when I was 14, and initially with my friends from middle school (we started a crack RP right before our sophomore year). I got hooked, but like everyone else had to learn RP etiquette, hehe.

I stuck around because I like creating stories or playing with fandoms, and I love using RP for character development.

i started when i was about 9 or 10 on the nintendo social media thing called miiverse. it's been almost five years at most. it has been amazing though

Hah, wow, I feel old! I was in college, and I had just discovered my love of creative writing. A college buddy told me about her wolf roleplays, and I thought it sounded like a really fun way to tell stories, gain experience collaborating with other people, and create characters. I still fondly look back on some of my old threads, and I gained some good friends, too!

I believe I was somewhere around 13 when I started roleplaying. At first I began roleplaying due to wanting to share my ideas on a certain fandom and write stories around it and OCs of my creation. That's when I found DFRP, my first roleplaying site, and fell in love with the rules and mechanics of that place. And I got my wish! I loved every moment of getting in the character's roles or even just coming up with stuff for them. I made a lot of cringy mistakes back then, and I also did some stuff I'm proud of to this day. If there is a reason I stayed and kept wanting to roleplay even after leaving that site was because of just how great roleplaying was for me.

Nowadays, what makes me stay is a little past just my love for roleplay. As much as I love my hobbies, sometimes it takes a real toll to be able to keep up with it if there wasn't the sense of community. RPN is an amazing place with quite possibly the best community I have ever seen period. I've made so many friends and memories here too. I wouldn't ever abandon this place!

Apperantly, 16. I stayed because I get to sculpt a character in my own image on what it should be and have more choices than usual video game role-playing games usually offer

Pff... when DID I start...?
I was 14 when I got into Dungeons and Dragons, and a little bit older when I got into forum RPs... or somewhere around that time anyway. The details are fuzzy. And I've desperately been trying to forget most of the horrible things I've written back in those days. They're really cringe-worthy.
Nowadays... I'm here. I don't play D&D often anymore because of the adult life... but I do LARP and I love it so much!

What made me stay? The ability to write and be creative. Writing being an exhaust for stuff that's on my mind. And of course the people. I made awesome friends through RPing and even met my boyfriend because of LARP. Known the guy for... 4 years? We've been shipped for 2 or something... and we're almost together for a year. Roleplaying makes me a very happy panda.

technically, i started when i was 9, on wcrpg (now feralfront) in 2013. it was a lot of: Shinespeck: *purrs* It’s good to see you too, Falconflight!

i slowly got more serious about it and a big reason why was a great roleplay that lasted for a few years.

i left for the roleplaying scene for a few years, and joined a rp’ing site in 2016.
