Ariella

Ariella stuck close to de'kiral as he announced they would be heading outside. Thankful to him for not forcing her to go she perked up as they got outside and even more as they got to the woods. Giggling a little she darted off, running around happily through the woods while sticking close to the group. Eventually they all came to a clearing and De'kiral started to speak again. Quickly rejoining the group to listen to her teachers words. She'd be lying if she didn't admit his method confused her a little though she got it for the most part.

A was were she most belonged though instead of on the right or left she most likely stuck in the center, that and she also fit in group D by the first to silly names he gave to it. One he told everyone to go off to were they should be Ariella instantly burst into a run.sticking her arms out to her sides as she ran in a wavy haphazard way straight to the setter of letter A. Leaping just before she got to the dented and landing with a small stomp where the scenter was. Smiling she turned around on her hells to face her teacher and smiled.

Himari Tachimori

As the introductions concluded, Himari now turned her mind as to what the teacher has in store for the first lesson. Back home, her parents had the tutors teach the girl general education, some languages, and even piano. But never did those include anything close to her power. Her brothers would sometimes show her tips when they visited, but it was always so inopportune in their timing.

As De'kiral announced it for the lesson to take place outside, Himari raised a brow. It was quite not as to what she expected, but it helped the excitement. Walking out to the grounds again, and into a thicket, the teacher led his students to a clearing. Himari had her skin crawling while going through the dense forest, it brings up an idea of what would happen were she go out of control. She let out a huge sigh as they reached a clearing. The fresh air combined with the breeze is a thousand times better than the slightly dank and dense forest, she thought.

Himari, along with her classmates, were then explained to why there were plants growing around their classroom. Those plants actually had a purpose other than decoration, Himari mused. When De'kiral told of plant maintenance being graded, she became unreasonably confident. She knew that plants grow around her with only a bit of effort, it could also even be said that they grow for her. The girl did not know, however, to actually take care of plants. She also realized that weeds would be her opponent, as they would also grow much quicker. The subject then turned to Heroes, and the system that underlies.

Heroes were never talked about in the Tachimori household. Himari only read them up on the papers, and some books. Even her chatty brother who attends this school, Tatsu-nii, never spoke a word about them and tended to be quite elusive with the subject. Only when her mother revealed her plan to transfer here under the pretense of honing her skills, did she put the effort to know about heroes. The fact that media presence ranks heroes, however, was totally alien to Himari. So heroes are like celebrities, like idols? Himari wondered if being flashy is better for a hero, immediately imagining herself to be wearing a cutesy outfit while fighting villains. "Grow Power! Weeding out crime, Sunflower Girl Himari!" Her face immediately went red. "Uuuhow embarrassing! And the costume's skirt will probably--!", she thought, before pinching herself to re-attain her focus to the lecture.

The students suddenly started moving forming lines beside black letters that appeared mysteriously. Her classmates went to which lines like it was assigned. It was like pottery, the men and women in uniform knowing where their place is. Those having not paid attention can only stand there like a newborn deer. Or was it a deer in the headlights? What Himari knew, was that it wasn't time thinking of the correct metaphor. She was lagging behind again! Thankfully, she caught the last part of De'kiral's explanation -- "Left for ranged, and right for melee." ...That doesn't help! Out of options, she swallowed her pride and grabbed a classmate and asked him for a quick rundown, as it was pretty embarrassing to ask a teacher to repeat what they just said.

She bowed in gratitude for her faceless classmate who had just fallen in his line. After much deliberating, she found herself in 'C' area. She figured that she would find some use in her abilities on first-aid, and such. She went to the right, as her powers require her to be in contact of the ground. And to be viable in combat, she thinks that she has to be quite near an opponent to dish any damage. "I'm quite confident in my endurance, too!", she said under her breath. She noticed that Elizar was also in the 'C' area. Himari waved at her friend, but she wouldn't really expect the horned lass to notice her, as she is quite far up front.

De'kiral watched the children sort themselves, quietly thinking to himself about the ratios and how he could play with them. Jaun... ranged rescue, and uncertain at that. His abilities seemed interesting, however ( OnyxReaper OnyxReaper ). Elizar, the mute, ranged rescue as well ( Kyrenka Kyrenka ). She seemed understandably concerned at the other boy's tentacles. The dragon chuckled slightly to himself as he thought about it. He supposed those sorts of abilities were odd to most people. Perhaps being quadrupedal gave him a different perspective on the idea? Shy little Ariella seemed far more at home out here, though, and burst to the combat oriented section. Smack dab in the middle. He supposed versatility was an option as well. All the same... maybe it was best they focus on her temper before teaching her to fight? He smiled at her sweetly, looking around at the other students ( Daniel Reaving Daniel Reaving ). Last but not least, little Himari found her way to the melee side of the rescue group as well ( MirrorBoy MirrorBoy ).

Right. Well then. It was a good mix of groups A, B, and C among the fifteen students he had. Combat, healers, and rescue. Should be good fun. "Good job," he started, smiling at them as he casually folded his arms, "That didn't take you near as long as I thought it would. It's always a good idea to figure out where you fit best, and what sort of position makes you happiest... or in your cases, which one you think will make you happiest. The majority of you seem to be focused on rescue, something that more nature-inclined abilities tend to excel at."

He held his hand out again, the grass fading back down into the mix of colors it naturally was as he continued to speak, "I want to begin by teaching you safety first and foremost. Regardless of what hero type you want to be, it is imperative that you know how to do so safely, both for yourself and for civilians. Have any of you been in a fight? Have any of you had to rescue someone? For instance, someone drowning or choking is the most common problem that many people experience. In those situations, it's really only the victim that is at risk. In many hero situations, however, your abilities and the villain's can clash in such a way that it causes a lot of collateral damage. Mitigating that is very important."

"What do you already know about civilian safety when it comes to superpowered fights? What do you want to avoid? What do you want to keep in mind?"

Ariella instantly went to work thinking of what he had asked of them. Plopping down in the grass where she was. A thinking look spread over her face as she tried to think of the answer. Getting an 'AH HA!' Look before it instantly turned back to a puzzled thinking look as she continued to try and figure out the answer for him.

Elizar shuffled her feet nervously as she took time to consider the teacher's questions. She'd never been in an actual fight before, but she doubted that it would matter much. The real world would be tougher than any of the childhood fights most people have experienced. As for actual rescuing, she didn't really know what to do aside from going in, grabbing people, and bringing them to safety. Was there much else they were supposed to do? Well, there is CPR if they're drowning... Fiddling with her marker in one hand, Elizar let her eyebrows furrow in thought. 'What do we want to avoid?' Is there something else aside from collateral damage? Yeah ruining buildings and causing havoc would suck later, but saving lives was more important wasn't it? Elizar's hand froze in its movements as her eyes widened in realization. Collateral damage! People could still be in the buildings or on the ground! Feeling a sliver of dread creep up her spine, the mute's train of thought continued. They could get killed if we're careless...it'd defeat the whole point of rescuing people!

Uncapping her marker, Elizar began to write her answer on her board. While it was easier to just sign her answer, she still wasn't sure if Jaun or Ariella would be able to understand. Taking her time to make sure her writing was legible, the girl carefully wrote her answer. Pausing to analyze her answer, Elizar nodded in approval before turning her board around to answer the teacher. We'd have to make sure that any collateral damage that the fighting causes doesn't injure any hidden civilians. We'd also have to be gentle with anyone we're saving since they're powerless and are more vulnerable. Feeling proud of her answer, despite it's generic nature, Elizar waited to see if anyone else would provide an answer.

The room suddenly fills with the sounds of phones going off all at the same time. Even if they had been put on silent, they still go off loudly, ringtones blaring. All the text messages are from one person named "Sudo" in your phones.

Boxxy Woodsman
(Jaun Deaux)

The "boy's" long tendrils of flesh spasm and tighten for a brief few seconds before they snapped back into Jaun's back. Flesh burying back into flesh as a short ripple ran up along the nape of his neck, while a small crest of meat crawled down his spine before it vanished into the rest of his body.

He listened for a little bit, ears shifting, sharpening and rounding themselves out; the mimic was trying to practice his less gruesome transformations whilst he was in public, though even now some of the classmates around him looked grossed out. They hadn't seen him inspect his own stomach by bringing it out of his body. They didn't know anything about gruesome sights.

At long last it was his turn to speak, he'd read a lot about hero philosophies and how their actions are judged. Of course, he never understood what anything in them meant, one of the biggest things he couldn't even begin to sympathise with was the idea of a self-sacrificing hero. All creatures were designed to preserve themselves.

The mimic gave himself a slight pause.

It wasn't necessarily that creatures preserved themselves, some preserved their species.

Perhaps that was the cause behind self-sacrifice.

It didn't matter to Boxxy, he'd never known of another of his kind. No one else like him to sacrifice himself for. Self-preservation and fine meals would suit his life just fine.

So, even though he couldn't understand heroes, he could still speak words he didn't believe it. Like a lot of humans, the mimic mused.

"I think that you should always priorit-"

"Tempest? Umm... Mr De'Kiral?" The boy faced his phone screen towards the dragon -man.

Himari Tachimori

Settled in her place, Himari had taken out a small notebook as the teacher started speaking. Jotting down notes is very important, was one of mother's aphorisms, always try to record everything. Himari smiled at how silly it seemed, how mother always seems to have a pen and paper on hand. She tapped the pen impatiently, only having written the bare minimum. Committing most to memory, Himari nodded at the importance of safety. De'kiral then presented questions, which she subconsciously wrote down, on one's experience in fights, and immediate knowledge about rescue. Her classmates already given their answers, and Himari felt obliged to think of one too. "When the unavoidable does happen, I heard that something called a triage is done on such emergencies." She stumbled a bit in the pronunciation, but she felt confident that she remembered that.

Himari almost jumped at the cacophony of rings and buzzes just before her classmates started checking their phones. So she did the same and checked hers. With a flip, the screen immediately revealed a message in a badly rendered font. It came from the same person coming with a chipper greeting. Tempest? Himari had a look of confusion. Though only one could guess what this 'sudo' person meant, the girl had a bad premonition. She looked around and saw the state of the crowd. Her classmates clamored a little, as appropriate a reaction to something as bizarre as this. Himari felt the seeds vibrate again, almost as if they were also receiving messages.

Elizar jumped a little at the sudden noise of cell phones going off. She flushed with embarrassment at first, but then quickly recovered as she realized that everyone got a message. A mass text? Aren't those only used in emergencies? Heart thumping, she watched as Jaun turned his phone's screen over to De'kiral. If he was willing to risk getting in trouble for his cell phone, then it had to be important. Taking out her phone, the mute's eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. Sudo? I don't know anyone named Sudo... She didn't have any friends, so she could count the amount of saved numbers in her phone on one hand. It was definitely unsettling her. Opening up the message, her confusion only grew.

Sudo

Tempest has escaped

Tempest? Like a storm? She frowned lightly at her phone. Was it some kind of weird storm warning? The school was in the sky after all...

Swiveling her head around, she found Himari and made her way over to her. Immediately, Elizar noticed that she too had gotten a message from Sudo. She didn't seem better off than Elizar though if the confusion on her face was anything to go by. Giving the other girl a small wave in order to gain her attention, she typed out on her phone, What do you think it means? She couldn't help but feel a little nervous. There was no way that this wasn't going to be a big deal; she just hoped that everything would turn out alright.

There were a number of great responses that peppered around the group. He had clearly caught them off guard, however. One said, "We'd have to make sure that any collateral damage that the fighting causes doesn't injure any hidden civilians. We'd also have to be gentle with anyone we're saving since they're powerless and are more vulnerable," and another said, "When the unavoidable does happen, I heard that something called a triage is done on such emergencies."

He nodded, thinking of how to respond. Another child answered... or at least partially did, before every student's phone seemed to go off at the same time. Alerts sounded differently... was this some sort of mass text instead? Then from who and for what purpose?

Jaun turned his phone around towards De'kiral to show him the message. He walked up and picked up the phone, looking over the message and sender with a massive sigh.

"Sudo... huh? I think it's safe to assume you all got this message that Tempest escaped?" he asked, handing back the phone before taking out his own smartphone. He quickly searched for most recent news events, scrolling through them silently for a moment before clearing his throat, "Right. I'm uncertain what this Sudo person has intended, but he or she is unfortunately correct."

"A news story just went out moments ago. It states that Supervillain Tempest escaped prison, along with at least five other high-profile villains, in his hometown of Victoria, Canada. The other Supervillains have yet to be named...," he furrowed his brow, tucking the phone back in his pocket, "It seems the anniversary is drawing out all sorts of reactions. This message is likely campus wide, so all of the teachers are going to be aware of it rather quickly."

He looked around at the open grass, trying to regain his train of thoughts as he spoke, "Once classes are done, I'm sure the teachers will hold a meeting to see if we feel like this threat will directly effect us or not... but for now... You're all on the right track in terms of what to keep in mind with civilians."

"With a license, Superheroes have to be careful about property damage. The more damage done, the more likely someone is going to sue you or the company you work for for negligence," he continued, getting back to the discussion, "Don't throw the bad guys into buildings. Especially through buildings. There are people in them who are a lot squishier than the person you're fighting probably is. The ground has lots of rock under it. Throw them against there."

"On top of that... just... don't hit someone with someone else's property. If you're strong enough to lift something and hit someone with it, you're strong enough to just hit someone outright. If your abilities are ranged and you're shooting someone with something, then assume you will miss. Make sure whatever is behind them isn't something that's gonna get innocents hurt. Bad guys know how to dodge a lot of the time," he sat down on the grass in front of the class, running a hand through his hair, "And... It's not really got anything to do with collateral damage... but something even I tend to forget sometimes... Nothing is bullet proof. Even if, by some ability or armor, you feel invincible... you aren't. Something can hurt you. There are some people out there where invincibility is their thing... but even then I wouldn't trust it. Supervillains want to hurt Superheroes. That's how it works."

Himari Tachimori

Confusion must be the most frequent emotion Himari felt these days. She could have sworn that it has etched a line or two in her forehead, due to all this time spent raising her eyebrows. She furrowed them, while her hand on her vest-pocket turned into a fist. The seeds went still as she felt calmer, until moments later they started moving again. The rhythmic movement was different from before. The oscillation was subtle and gentle, but more tickling than soothing. She retrieved from her pockets a napkin to wipe her hands, which she had feared had gotten moist. While doing so, Himari noticed Elizar waving at her.

Himari waved back as the mute pixie approached her. It soothed her nerves, and even gave her a bit of a smile amidst the mass text hysteria. Elizar, through her phone, asked her the possible meaning of the cryptic text. Himari thought a bit as she stared at the Elizar's screen for a moment, her brows furrowing once more. "It is not really clear to me, but I do say," Himari started while signing, as she sighed in relief to herself thinking that at least she wasn't alone in her bemusement this time. "It was quite an ominous shift of tone compared to its earlier messages welcoming us to the school." Himari, more befuddled than nervous, just realized that what she had said might just raise more questions. "Ah..! But I think it's nothing to worry about," she said to Elizar while wearing an awkward smile.

But it is something to worry about. De'kiral revealed that Tempest is a supervillain who had escaped with other infamous crooks. The dragon-teacher allayed fears much better than Himari could've in his announcement. But really, his presence is all the peace of mind the students could receive, Himari thought. It was really the unbeknownst reason why she wasn't that worried in the first place. "Thank goodness our teachers are here, right?" She said to Elizar.

The class have grown significantly quieter, as the clearing rediscovered the peaceful calm. The chirping of birds was infinitely better than the ringing of phones that drowned them out earlier (though some of those ringtones might include chirping). The lessons resumed, and Himari listened along. De'kiral continued with the subject of property damage. At first, Himari didn't think her powers would create much damage. What destruction could accelerating growth of plants have? Hardly did she think that a flower cause ruin to city streets. She eventually realized that the sudden displacement of soil could affect the structures above, that is, assuming that her powers get so strong to be able to make plants sprout that quickly and violently. In the end, she felt that her abilities couldn't really cause that much devastation as to drive up costs. But she wrote it all down, all the same.

Boxxy Woodsman
(Jaun Deaux)

Boxxy merely shrugged as he slipped his phone back into his pocket, fidgeting with it awkwardly from inside his pocket by sprouting a dozen or so minuscule feelers from his leg, keeping them within the confines of his clothing and relatively discreet. The mimic had always figured there wasn't much point in having idle time where he didn't practice his... unique skillset.

If their teacher didn't seem to care about the threat, Boxxy likely didn't have anything to worry about. Of course, Jaun was nothing like Boxxy, whilst Boxxy was cold and relatively robotic in his thoughts, Jaun was an emotional, meek child that did nothing but worry.

Perhaps Boxxy should have picked out a less troublesome persona.

"I-... I... I guess we're safe from whoever... from whoever tempest is... all the way... up here..."

The 'boy' nodded along to De'Kiral's words, most of which he'd read in a variety of magazines, books and online articles over his relatively short life, yet again, the sentiment for human life eluded him still. Though, he knew he'd prefer a fresh corpse than one found under a pile of rubble. Perhaps the sentiment might over him some fresh meals.

Perhaps he could get behind the idea of saving a life.

To take it later, in a more discreet location.

Another few hours pass since the alarming text message barrage, and class at least attempts to get back to normal. At around 2pm (it was 11am-ish), a loud bell rings out through the school. A voice comes up over the intercom, stating that, it is now Lunchtime, and that students should head to the cafeteria for food. Though this was a little later than a typical lunchtime, it was clearly normal, as the teachers had been expecting it. They let the students go to the cafeteria, many of them tagging along with.

Elizar felt herself smile as she nodded in agreement. Himari was right! De'kiral was very nice and seemed genuinely concerned for his students; she was sure that the other teachers were the same! I guess that means we don't have to worry about Tempest. Sure, his escape was worrying, especially for the people below, but they were protected. Feeling the tension leave her body, the mute relaxed as De'kiral continued class. Glancing over at Himari, she noticed that the other girl was writing notes in a notebook she had brought. Oops! Flushing with embarrassment, Elizar started to type what the teacher was saying into her phone's notes. How could I forget a notebook on the first day!? To be fair, she felt extremely anxious for her first day and spent more time worrying about 'talking' to her classmates than about bringing school supplies. Hopefully I don't get yelled at. Luck seemed to be on her side today as De'kiral either didn't notice or didn't care about her having her phone out during class. Thank goodness.

Class continued uneventfully; if one could call a superhero class uneventful. Elizar perked up as an announcement declared that it was now lunchtime. Already? Glancing at her phone's clock, she blinked in surprise. It's two o'clock already? Students began to eagerly make their way to, what she assumed was, the cafeteria. The mute hurried after her peers so that she wouldn't be left behind. Maybe she could ask Himari to sit next to her?
