I was thinking maybe instead of turning into a bat (Cause Vampires can do that), they'd transform into a strange leech/bat hybrid.

If I have the energy to develop em more, I'd probably include the morphology that varies by region (ie, pseudo vampires that have thicker hides due to living in very hot or cold environments, pseudo vampires that live exclusively in caves and have lost all skin pigmentation and possess gills in human form and so on)
