Sister Mariah
Corrupted Corridor
Corrupted Corridor
Mariah was pushed savagely against a wall, a wild-eyed fearful Elaina angrily shaking her, the gun pressed to her chin. "WHAT HAVE YOU SICK BASTARDS BEEN DOING TO THESE CHILDREN, HUH?!?" The woman's eyes were red and crying
Mariah felt her life flashing before her eyes. She was in imminent danger, but it wasn't like she could defend herself. The dagger she was given was dropped as soon as she laid eyes on the interior of the room. All she could do was plea. "I knew nothing about any of this, Lady Elaina," she said desperately, her own tears streaming down her face. "I swear on all that is holy, I knew nothing about this."
Slap! The sharp smack of Elaina's palm stunned her and sent her tumbling. Now the gun was pressed to her forehead. "HOLY!?! WHAT THE FUCK ABOUT THIS PLACE IS HOLY, MARIAH?!" Elaina shrieked in her face, and Mariah hated to admit that there was indeed nothing holy about that sight. "There is a hidden path to a rotting room full of corrupted children! You've been breeding demons under this fucking church!" The gun cocked and, while Mariah didn't know much about guns, she didn't need to see it in action to know that cocking a gun to someone's head was the gun equivalent of pressing a blade to someone's throat until it began to draw blood. She was about to die here
"IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, LADY ELAINA!" Mariah screamed back, "Those are ANGELIC words of power. You can't house demons in an Angelic room. Please please listen to reason. Don't kill me please, I knew nothing about this." The woman couldn't speak anymore, reduced to a blubbering sobbing mess with her words coming off more as desperate croaks than human speech. She couldn't take this. This holy place had turned into the opposite. These children were forsaken and things started to make sense. Why children ended up gone. Why nuns ended up "transferred." They had to have been lied to. Her evidence? That adult that lay dead in the floor had on their nun attire. "It must be Blight. Please let me try to figure this out."
The gun relented after a 60-second-feeling 10 seconds. "Get up," came a labored but forceful breath. On the shakiest foundation, Mariah used the wall to push herself up to the glaring eyes of her partner in crime. "You're right. Demons couldn't be in that room. You're not leaving though. We're in this."
The fact that she didn't want to hear that she wasn't out of the woods was overshadowed by the fact that it seemed like she wasn't about to die yet. "You're not gonna kill me?"
"In a heartbeat if I find that you're lying to me," was her chilling response. Despite Elaina's sort of mischievous nature up to this point, Mariah felt like Elaina put some small level of actual trust to drag her along this far. All of that was dead right now despite Mariah knowing that she was telling the truth. It made sense. This was not a good look for her or for the Church as a whole. She was glad though that despite Elaina's wild emotions, her inquisitive nature and desire for knowledge made her see reason........and none of this made enough sense to leave it unsolved
Wiping her tears, Mariah needed to salvage as much trust as she could. "Can you call the holy angel? I promise I'm not lying."
"..................." Elaina tapped her crystal twice. "Elaina to Evangeline. We got Blight down here."
".........alright." The connection cut off. Another double tap. "Elaina to Laylah. Evangeline told me you're investigating Blight. There's a large amount of it here..............I'm with one of these nuns..............no, I won't kill her...........ok." The connection cut off and Elaina looked to Mariah. "I got Laylah coming to investigate."
"Is that another angel?"
"Yes. A 6 star angel, and the doctor of our crew."
A 6 STAR?! A Seraph?!
"We will not be leaving until we figure this out, so buckle up." Elaina said. "If this Church is corrupted, it will be useless against the demon."
There was about to be a night ahead of them, and Mariah didn't WANT to rest until this place became holy again.

Sebas Deadeye
Weapons Wing- Hall
Weapons Wing- Hall
Sebas entered the Weapon's Wing after Fergie and Bogrum's conversation. He did catch Bogrum though. "Heard from Avery and heard his justification. Lighter load aside, this does play into your strengths." Thinking about how he leads, Sebas realized that Avery's justification made sense. Demi really was better suited for an assault running a ship, and Bogrum was absolutely better postured as either reinforcements or defense. Bogrum seemed to fighting a form of air sickness right now, and Sebas wouldn't have noticed it if they weren't all so drained from this. Bogrum's air legs were as slow going now than it was when they first boarded this ship. Keeping him grounded was the smartest play to make.
"Oi, Sebas." A figure hobbled up to him, interrupting their conversation. A particular Tiefling conman, looking like he could barely walk.
"You can plainly see me talking here, Dura. What do you want?" Sebas said sharply, "Stand up straight."
"I wish I could, but YOU reneged on your promise," Duradel said, meeting his eyes without hesitation
"Fuck off, I didn't renege on shit," he fired back
"Bullshit, you said if I performed well, you wouldn't re-curse me. What is this then?"
Ah, that's why he moved like he just barely made it out of a gorilla pit. "You think I got the power to re-curse you without Lostro present?"
"Well I'm cursed," Duradel said darkly, "and I know the familiar feeling of that child cursing me. Figure this out."
Sebas socked Duradel square in the face for such insubordination. He screamed out in pain as he tumbled to the floor and screamed again as he landed. Yeah, the feeling of every bone in your body being broken probably didn't feel pleasant. Dura should've thought about that when he decided to speak like he had 50 lbs on him. "You always forget your place on this ship." It was incredibly alarming to know that Lostro cursed him without his word, but there was no way he was about to accept a false accusation or insubordinate nonsense from someone like Duradel. "You DO realize that you have Lostro's favor so you can be that demon's plaything, right?" Lostro viewed Duradel as a toy, and as a child around pirates, play time always took on a rough-housing turn. Hell, the primary idea of fun aboard the Canine was drunk shooting each other on the SHF
All fight seemed to leave his body with that punch. "I'm sorry. I didn't think it was you, but I do know it was her," he said from the floor, not even trying to get up. If there was one thing Sebas would always find impressive about Duradel, it was his ability to speak clearly even in immense pain. Maybe it came from the conman thing. "Can you please figure it out? I'm gonna be honest in that I don't think you were intending for Lostro to re-curse me when you said that you wouldn't re-curse me." He was exactly right for that assumption. This means Lostro had a reason to re-curse him, and that she decided to undermine him. That was NOT a good thing because the last time she decided to act in rebellion was when she ended up sealed in that room isolated from everyone in the first place for being too big a danger. Sebas was a man of his word. He'd leave this whole crossed fingers shit to people like Duradel
"Have you done something that would make Lostro curse you again?" Sebas asked, making sure he did his own due diligence
"I got cured and then we dropped to the bottom. I couldn't have done anything," Dura said, "Tell ya what. If you push express shipping on curing me, I'll upgrade your shotgun."
Sebas met his proposal with a furrowed brow. "After being cursed for doing the opposite?"
"I swear it, your shotgun will be all the better." Dura seemed desperate. "If not, curse me to die the moment your shotgun malfunctions due to my alterations. I can't do this curse thing anymore." Made sense to beg for a release
It was a hard bargain. Duradel really did have genuine talent for weaponry and upgrading it. He snatched Duradel to his feet and enjoyed the pained screams as Duradel's cursed body moved more than he wanted to. Sebas then took a Stim Shot and slammed it into Dura's body, letting the potion painfully course through his body
"Get to work. If it's not done by morning, she'll cast a bigger curse on you.........." Sebas slapped into Duradel's hands his trusted shotgun and walked off still towards Lostro's room, leaving the conversation he was having with Bogrum unfinished and seemingly forgotten. ".......and when she's exorcised, she more than likely won't have the power to remove it."
Duradel looked to Bogrum on Sebas's exit. "......I take it that Fergie is in this wing too. Please tell me she's not in the armory. I got work to do," He said, kind of pleading to be left in peace with his work. Both Sebas and Duradel had their work cut out for them. Sebas honestly wanted to be left alone, but now he had to deal with this shit. At least he was getting a shotgun upgrade out of this. He was gonna need it

Vespera Marine Seyres
Sacrament of the Arcane HQ- Meeting Room
Sacrament of the Arcane HQ- Meeting Room
Protected? She wasn't an asset that needed to be protected. Nancy was. "I'm deputy Guildmaster," she responded, "Where Arnold isn't leading is where I'm expected to lead." It would be foolish of her to ever think protection is something she needed. As spunky as she was, that spunk didn't come from naivete. In fact, the fact that she COULD confront these challenges and dangers without losing herself contributed to such spunk. "As long as you are protected, I can fight without worry." She was back to the mentality of staying away from the holy, but that was the only worry. As a creature of darkness, she would thrive when this demon summoned, strength increasing to frightening heights while healing off damage. In fact, it was kind of putting her in fear of showing Nancy a side of her he had only seen once before, that Bloodlust Rage.
"Holy or not, I'm fighting." Ves stood up, "Let's make our preparations. Time is of the essence." Nancy was to be positioned at the Church. He needed to gather his stuff. Nellie was at the command of the Sacrament, so her position was up in the air. Regardless, they needed to prep all they could before resting at the dawn of the Defense of Kraiven. "There is a lot to do. I'll take you to grab your stuff then get you to the church." She couldn't go in though, but that's where he was gonna be, and with him being the pinnacle of holiness besides the angels themselves, he would be put to good use there. "This is gonna be whirlwind. But if we made it out of this once, we can win round 2."
(From here, I will close the scene on a bunch of characters in my next post, so we can wrap things up.)
