Winnie Foster

Honestly, Winnie has been living the dream since she left her cult-like religious family. Not being known as the preacher's daughter was a dream. No longer having to go to church on Sunday to worship to a higher power that probably isn't even real is like a fantasy. These past few years she's spent on Staten Island have been everything she's ever wanted and more. Sure, she's barely scraping by with the money she makes on the cam sites, but she makes due with what she has. There's always something fun to do or a party to go to. Life is a roller coaster she's riding with her hands in the air. Altogether, life has been pretty good. I mean, as well as life can be with an ongoing heartbreak in the back of her mind every second of ever day. But besides that small imperfection, life was paradise for Winifred Foster.

Winnie walked into the cafe with big sunglasses covering her eyes, a little hung over. Having just woke up from a deep drunken slumber she rolled out of some guys bed, pulled her hair into a messy bun, and held her heels as she did the walk of shame back to her studio apartment. She took a brief shower, threw on a t-shirt dress, a pair of knee high boots, and caught a cab to the cafe she agreed to meeting her best friend in...approximately 15 minutes ago. As she walked in she pushed through the bustling Friday afternoon rush rising herself up on her tippy toes to find Madelyn. She was about to pull out her phone to call Madelyn when she saw the dark skinned girl waving her arms like a maniac from a booth in the corner. Winnie waved back with an ear to ear grin and walked over to the table. She kept her smiled as she slid into the booth, excited to see her best friend.

"Maddie J, how are you lovely?" Winnie greeted, taking her sunglasses off to reveal bloodshot, tired eyes. "Sorry I'm late." She bluntly admitted, trying not to beat around the bush that she was supposed to be here 21 minutes ago. "I woke up in Peter's bed like, an hour ago. I tried to rush home as fast as I could to clean off and get my shit together. Trust me, if I had come straight from his place you wouldn't have wanted to eat with me from the smell alone. My dress straight smelled like bourbon and ecstasy." Winnie grabbed Madelyn's water and took a sip from it, not asking first. She put the glass down and shook her head, remembering something. "No sorry, his name is Dylan. Dylan not Peter." She said with a slight giggle. "Anyways, how are you? You doin' okay? How's my favorite nephew Charles?" She paused for a brief moment, opening the menu and flipping through it, trying not making eye contact with Madelyn as she asked her last question. "And...how's Apollo?" She asked timidly, still flipping through the pages of the menu. She wasn't exactly sure if she wanted to know. What if he'd moved on already. Her fragile little heart couldn't take that news. The breakup was still so fresh for her even though it's been months. She still wanted to know how her former boyfriend was doing. Winnie cared about the man so much despite the way he dropped her like bad habit.

Just then Winnie heard loud giggling from the booth behind her. Loud enough to get her attention. She turned around to see a group of younger girls with their phones out all directed at a young man who was behind the counter pouring ketchup straight into his mouth from the bottle. Winnie gathered that the young man probably didn't work at the cafe and was being a dumb kid and goofing around. She watched as a waitress took the bottle out of his hands and shooed him out from behind the counter, lecturing him as she did so. He gulped the ketchup right down and made a disgusted face, all the while filming himself on his own phone. His attention was directed back at his phone and he celebrated with a loud, "Yes!" His phone made a satisfying 'cha-ching' noise and he sat down in a random booth. Confused, she turned her attention back to her best friend, not really questioning the young man and ignoring his antics.

Between studying for summer classes, and raising her two-year-old son; Madelyn was exhausted. For six straight hours, Pokemon has been playing on the living room television just to make Charles fall asleep. Maddie practically had her Ph.D. in Pokemon by now with it all drilled into her head. Maybe her parents would be proud of that instead. It would be nice to get some help from the one who helped her make Charles, but that's like pulling teeth. Checking the time on her iPhone, Maddie needed to get ready to meet up with Winnie at the cafe. Going through the motions of her routine, Maddie got fully dressed than the little tyke.

Rushing out the door with her son in hand, Maddie was surprised to not have seen Apollo. This was his house that he was letting her live in, but he nowhere in sight. But speak of the devil, the young aristocrat pulled into the driveway in a shiny, blue Maserati Gran Turismo. Maddie couldn't help but roll her eyes at her brother's lavish spending habits. Walking up to the car Apollo rolled down the window and pulled down his shades. "I'm going to go meet Winnie at the cafe. Wanna tag along?" She asked her brother, but all he could do was arrogantly smirk while shaking his head. "Yeah, I figured." No surprise there since Apollo tossed Winnie to the side when he was bored of her. Luckily out of the relationship Maddie obtained a new best friend.

Arriving at the cafe in a hurry, Maddie noticed Winne wasn't even there yet. It wasn't that much of a surprise though with Winnie. Stepping inside, Maddie requested a booth in the corner and booster for Charles. Now they just played the waiting game. Watching Winnie stroll into the cafe, Maddie waved her down like a maniac so she could see her pass the rush of patrons. "Hey! I got worried that may have bailed on me there. I'm doing alright, just a little exhausted. Looking at your eyes it seems we had the same kind of night? Except I'm guessing yours wasn't from raising a two-year-old while studying?" Playfully laughing at her friend, she knew exactly what went down last night.

"I'm doing fine, just the usual. Little Charlie is still waking up weird hours, just the usual. And my brother...he's u-uh been quiet lately. Sort of dismissive really." It was a lie of course, but Maddie couldn't tell her that he was still the same douche as before. The best way to get over an ex is by knowing they're groveling in a hole somewhere. Sadly that's how Apollo left the woman he dated. When he got what he wanted, he was done with them. It was skeevy but it didn't even phase him. In the corner of Maddie's eye, she noticed something really peculiar. Is some kid happily drinking ketchup like a champ? It was really odd, but he looked determined. "Was that kid just drinking ketchup from the bottle? "

MENTIONS — The Idiot with the Ketchup Bottle
TIME — 2:20 PM
A little over an hour and a half. That was the amount of time that Sevyn had left in her shift, just one hour and thirty minutes... ninety minutes... thirty minutes, three times... she could do this. She'd arrived to work at eight in the morning, just as she did every day, just in time for opening. She wore the usual uniform: black jeans, a white T-shirt, a pair of sneakers, and an apron. Thankfully, she was serving customers and bussing tables rather than handling the food, which meant that she didn't have to wear the god-awful hairnet that remained tucked into the front pocket of her purse. The first couple of hours after opening were hectic thanks to the large number of people who stopped in for their daily caffeine boost before work, but by the time the clock struck two, things had calmed down a bit. The majority of the people that sat around the cafe were either high school students who were looking for a new Summer hangout spot or elderly couples who were, for some reason, craving a fresh cup of coffee and a piping hot breakfast bagel. Sevyn plastered a fake smile on her face as she refilled the coffee mug of a woman who looked to be in her mid-sixties; the woman stared in disgust at the tattoos that covered her server's arms. It took every ounce of strength in Sevyn's body to remain silent. "Hope everything tastes good," Sevyn spoke through gritted teeth before heading back to the counter.

She reached the counter just in time to see a boy not much younger than her squirting ketchup from the bottle directly into his mouth. "You've got to be fucking kidding me yo," Sevyn said with a roll of her eyes as she quickly snatched the bottle from the younger boy's hands and pointed towards his table. "Go back to your table now. This is a cafe, not your goddamn house. You know that ya moms taught you better than that, boy." Sevyn said a few more words to the immature boy, but he didn't seem to give a damn. He simply swallowed the ketchup, keeping his eyes focused on his cell phone the entire time. It was in that moment that Sevyn realized that he was recording himself. She watched in shock as the phone displayed the words "DARE COMPLETED" across the screen, made a 'cha-ching' noise and showed a dollar amount. Her eyes curiously followed the young man as he headed back towards his group of friends.

Snapping out of her daze, Sevyn placed the ketchup bottle back in its place on the counter and grabbed her notepad. She 'd noticed another woman enter the cafe not too long ago and join another woman at one of the tables, so that was where she decided to head to first. "Kids," Sevyn said with a sigh once she reached the table. "Sometimes they just love causing trouble." As she spoke, she took another glance towards the group of kids and watched as they exited the cafe. They hadn't even ordered anything. She couldn't help but wonder what exactly was the deal with the ketchup kid. Why was he recording himself doing something as stupid as eating ketchup? And why exactly did he receive money for it?

"Whatever. Have you two decided what you'd like to order, or do you need another few minutes?"

Ramareo
"Fuck me." Sighed Ramareo as he realised his dream had ended.

Ramareo had just about awakened from his restless rest, he checked his clock, it had 50 different way to tell the time, seconds, milliseconds, hours, years, months, weeks, days you name it, the stupid clock probably had it;
Ramareo couldn't make out whatever the time was, all that he knew was that if it was a work-day he would've definitely lost his apprenticeship.
The standard dorms of SIA were art-deco displays with a tad bit of blandness and mass production fitted in, granted it wasn't as if 'The Staten Island Advance' was the most profitable newspaper in New York but they could've given the dorms personality or at least let the apprentices personalise them a bit, unfortunately, that was not the case, leaving the dorms with solid colour headboards, curved chairs, circular dining tables and open-plan kitchens, all of which clashed in colour.

Ramareo sluggishly shifted his weight off his bed, each limb being as floppy as a string but as cumbersome as a tree trunk, his movement appearing like a sedated moose. Eventually, he was up, the lanky creature had stretched similar to a broken elastic band and managed to slump his way into the bathroom. As he stared blankly with his rest-worn eyes into the mirror, his mind was probably racing itself with thought and impressions but Ramareo was too exhausted to picture it.
After a quick cold shower, he was awake, it was time to see what else hell could throw at Ramareo.

The weather wasn't miserable but it wasn't a ray of sunshine, it was a jean-wear, type look for today. Anyway, it didn't matter what Ramareo looked like anyway, it was time for him to get something sweet, he was feeling like a cafe muffin today or perhaps a cookie, maybe even a milkshake... He'd make up his mind when he gets there.

Conveniently, the cafe wasn't all too far from Ramareo's dorm, it was only down and across the street, a 4-minute walk, as he was walking down the road, he noticed from the corner of his eye female on rollerblades jump onto a taxi whilst recording it like an action film, it wasn't any of his business to judge what was going on so he carried on to make his way into the cafe but it was certainly an odd sight. Opening the cafe door he noticed some more idiots messing around, it warmed his heart to see laughter like this but chaos isn't fun when it looks dumb. As he stumbled over to the counter he waited for the serveuse to return from the table of two, the two looked like friends and the serveuse seemed quite young, her arms appeared to be coated with tattoos, it was the 1st time he saw somebody have so many.

(The order in case I can't comment)
"Uh, can I get a beignet, no make it three with a glass of pineapple juice please."

Winnie Foster

At the mention of her bloodshot eyes she smirked at her friend. She laughed when Maddie made a comment about partying instead of raising a child and studying like she had done all night. "Mads, it was such a great night. Seriously, next time pub does 2000s night you have to come! They played Green Day and P!nk and NeverShoutNever. But the best part was the alcoholic Capri Sun! I don't know how they managed to put alcohol in the little packets of juice, but honestly it was the best $5 I've ever spent." She gushed, making sure to greet her little nephew as they sat down. She leaned across the table and gave him a kiss on the forehead, leaving a red mark from her lipstick. "Wee wee!" He announced excitedly. He couldn't quite grasp the word 'Winnie' yet and calls her a nickname for a penis. Winnie didn't mind though, she's never loved a child as much as she loves Charlie, which gave him every right to call her whatever he wanted.

Flipping through the menu, Winnie listened to Maddie as she told her how she was...and how Apollo was. When Maddie mentioned that Apollo has been quiet and dismissive, her mind started going a mile a minute. Dismissive? Quiet? Did he regret breaking up with her? Was he sad too? Is his heart hurting just like hers? Maybe he wants to get back together. Through all these thoughts, Winnie took out her phone hoping he'd texted her. No such luck. She decided to click on their message thread on iMessage to see if maybe a notification didn't go through. Still no luck. She just saw a single message she sent a few weeks ago reading, 'Please A, please just text me back. I need you.' She put her phone down on the table and took a deep, depressing breath.

Winnie directed her attention back to Maddie and addressed her question, just as confused as her friend was. "Uh, yeah it looked like it. He looks close to our age though, right? Like he has to be over 18. Why would a grown ass adult film himself chugging a bottle of ketchup like an unruly teenager?" Winnie asked, pondering over different outcomes in her head. "And did you see the table of girls behind me filming him too?" Winnie asked, pointing to the table behind her. Then she looked at Charlie dead in the eyes and pointed a finger at him. "Little boy, if you ever do stupid things like that, I'm going to kick you ass." Winnie said playfully through a smile. "Ass! Ass!" Charlie repeated. Winnie winced as he repeated her last word. He was like a little parrot now-a-days, and starting to understand words spoken aloud. "Sorry." Winnie appologized to Maddie.

"Have you two decided what you'd like to order, or do you need another few minutes?" Their waitress asked approaching the table. Winnie smiled politely at the girl. She ordered a coffee and a sausage, egg, and cheese on an English muffin, almost drooling over the the greasiness that her body was craving in its hungover state. She let Maddie order for herself and Charlie and was about to hand the waitress their menus when the ketchup boy walked over to their table and slid into the booth next to her.

"Hey. You're Win Frost right? Like the cam girl?" He asked in a nervous but curious voice. Normally, Winnie would have just kicked this ass hat out of the booth immediately, but if there was a chance she could get some cash out of him, she was going to take it, so she pressed the conversation forward.

"Depends on who's asking." Winnie replied, batting her eyes and smiling sweetly. He introduced himself and tried to start up some small talk by asking her what she ordered. She kept the flirtatious antics up, hoping he was going to pay for her meal or something and that's when he kissed her right on the lips. It tasted like Heinz 57. She second their lips met, she shoved the boy off of her and wiped her lips on her arm, completely disgusted by what just happened. "What the fuck!" Winnie shouted at the boy, as he walked away meeting his friends back at their table, all of them filming the interaction on their phones. "Are you filming this?" She shouted at the table, not knowing what to do. "I could go to the police!" She shouted, now almost everyone in the cafe around her rising their phones up to film her reaction.

"No, you can't do that! That's against the rules." One of the girls said from the booth behind her. Winnie directed her anger at the girl who has just spoken up. "You haven't heard of Nerve? It's a game. You go to the website to sign up. You can be a watcher or a player. That guy is a player. He just got paid $500 to kiss you. You're a porn star right? That's probably why the dare was priced to high." The young girl said, turning her phone around to see a clip of the kiss they had filmed. Winnie watched her phone intently as the video looped.

"First of all, I'm not a porn star, but shit $500?" Winnie questioned, calming down a little, this game peaking her interest. "You said an website?" She asked, as she girl nodded in reply. Winnie sat back down at the booth Maddie was sitting at and started Googling 'Nerve'. "Whoa she's right Mads, look at this." Winnie flipper her phone around for her best friend to see. "Yo, $500 for one dare? That's more than I make in a week. We should do it. Especially if they're stupid things like kiss a stranger. And I bet guzzling ketchup was a dare as well. That's such easy money." Winnie clicked onto a video describing the game and listened to the advertisement with Maddie.

"If you have the Nerve play the game, join millions of players around the world and experience the easiest way to earn money. Anyone can watch. Anyone can play. Fame. Money. Glory. Play or watch now."

Overhearing the discourse Ramareo watched intensively, "You haven't heard of Nerve? It's a game. You download it on your phone and they pay you tons of money to do dares." At this, the elongated tree began to think, "Nerve, money for dares, that must have been why the lady was taxi-hopping!"

It was a chaotic idea, and the sugar-obbsessed teen loved it, "Its perfect, dares bring out the fun in others whilst the dread is blanketed by the succeeding adrenaline. I should probably give this game a try, either way, if it doesn't work out, it would make a hell-of-a article." He begin to plunge into his phone searching for the app. The week may have ended but the chaos was about to begin on cue.

Madelyn placed her palm on her face after hearing her son say 'ass'. A little part of her wanted to laugh but didn't want to encourage him swearing. At least he didn't pick up something worst. "Thanks, Winnie." Maddie said in a sarcastic tone. "Have you two decided what you'd like to order, or do you need another few minutes?" As the waitress approached, Maddie shifted her attention towards her with a warm smile. "Hi! Could I get the scrambled eggs with a side of bacon? As well as a bowl of cheerios please?" Completing her order, Maddie watched Winnie hand over the menus to the waitress with the ketchup drinker slipping into the booth. There was an underlying suspicion that this boy was up to no good.

As Winne and the boy conversated, Maddie couldn't help but feel this kid was skeevy. He drank a bottle of ketchup! That should be a big red flag to not engage in any form of conversation. That's when she saw him sneak a kiss on Winnie. There was a whole array of feelings going through Maddie's head, the biggest one being disgust. "Oh god! That's so gross!" Maddie cringed as she watched him scurry away like some rat, but he seemed proud of himself. "You haven't heard of Nerve? It's a game. You go to the website to sign up. You can be a watcher or a player. That guy is a player. He just got paid $500 to kiss you. You're a porn star right? That's probably why the dare was priced to high."

Nerve? Maddie curiously watched the clip on the girl's phone. Bright obnoxious colors and a plethora of likes filled the screen. At the bottom of the screen, it seemed there were snippets of others partaking in the game. Turning her attention back towards Winnie, she then examined her friend's phone. People were actually making money from dares. "Some stupid dares for some money? I'm down for that. But is this legal?" Maddie asked her friend as she searched for the game herself on her phone. "Fuck fuck." Charles cheered with his arms in the air. Looking over at her son, Maddie sighed then glanced over to Winne. "Could I dare you $30 bucks to not teach my kid anymore swear words?"

Sitting on his couch with a phone in hand, Apollo had an amused smile on his face. Watching the ketchup kid kiss Winnie on the lips was worth every penny. Nerve has become Apollo's new little playground at the palm of his hand. It was amazing what people would do for some cash. Saving a gif of the kiss on his phone, he sent a quick text to Winnie. It felt like he was dusting off something aged since he hasn't messaged her since he ended the relationship. 'That was a nice kiss. Kind of makes me a little jealous.' Sending the text, Apollo had a playful smirk on his face then returned to watching some more Players.

Someone stealing a car for $1000 dollars, that seemed worth it. The fact that people would even attempt it was astounding. Some dumb player attempted to break open the window with his fists but sadly failed. The player's hand was covered in glass and blood. In the big red text, the word 'FAIL' appeared on the screen and the feed cutoff. Then it was onto the next player who was dared to dance naked in a fountain for $300. Scrolling through the list of players, it was so hard to choose who Apollo should watch. Some were entertaining, while others were just kind of sad and pathetic,

Enzo.

The melancholy dew of the morning scored his face, and a pretty audible slam on some sort of surface woke him up alright. “Why are you still here?” A woman screamed. Ez looked up, his dark brown eyes looking around a bar that was for homosexuals. He didn’t even remember going here, and his pants were loaded with cash, he must have gotten them partying, but he didn’t really remeber whatsoever. His hands shaky from the drinking, and only drinking, he got up, smiling at the “kind lady at the bar”, left the establishment, his shoes dragging lazily. His phone buzzed in the back pocket of his oddly ripped jeans, and he slowlygrabbed his phone, wincing every second he would get closer to his phone. Soon realizing that a headache is arricing at his forehead quite quickly. Groaning, he opened his phone and answered it. It was nerve, the app that he had downloaded ages ago, when it was in developer stages. He had a notification from Nerve. When he opened the application, a cartoon present popped up with a “cha-Ching” noise coming from his phone, with pink wrappings and a nice gold bow. He tapped on the present, the bow dissipating and revealed a special gift for him. Being a “well respected..?” And a “High Level” tier gave him the opportunity to be invited to groups, parties, and gatherings for watchers to pay players to do dares. It was quite fun actually. This wasn’t the case. He was given a special animation. This animation was played before the app would display a dare he paid for and pay money to the players. He laughed, it was actually quite terrifying, the way the pixels move. His laughing ceased, and standing in the middle of the sidewalk was over. He walked over to the nearby Cafe. Peering through the windows casually, and looking at the menu. He saw a young kid drinking ketchup at the counter, and then an interesting woman talking to him in a angry manner. He was on his phone, and people were filming him. He grinned. A player. He then saw another interesting woman, (a bell ringing in his head, alerting him, screaming “dare!” “Dare!”) sitting at a table and talking to an acquaintance who he’d know with a quick picture, and a scanned background check. He mumbled to himself as he read the information. “Winifred Foster, 22, cam worker.” He paused, saying ‘fancy job’ then continuing. “Ex Church attendee, law Enforcement issues.” He did the math in his head, looking at the boy and the girl at the table. “Yes.” He said to himself, and sent the dare. “Kiss the Cam” the title said, adding a brief description for the kid to understand the dare. He then sent it, watching as the boy flipped his phone and read the dare, some of the people filming reading it too. They laughed, and he proceeded. Enzo casually entered, lighting a Cigar and ignoring the chaos forming, asking the waitress, “What can I get cold as hell, and good for hangovers?” He asked through a puff of grey smoke.

Winnie was focused on her phone watching recent youtube video of Nerve and searching around the website. The videos depicted people doing dares anywhere from mundane simple dares to jumping off a cliff. It seemed like the game was new--like the past few days, new. The adventurous side of her was enthralled. She loved getting into trouble. Her attention was brought from her phone, back to her friend sitting across from her. Maddie's question made her feel a little uncomfortable. Was this game legal? The fact that one of the rules was 'snitches get stitches'. The people player weren't allowed to go to the police if something went wrong or they felt unsafe. She decided to push the thought out of her head. "It has to be legal, right?" She said to Maddie, almost trying to convince herself. Winnie busted out laughing when Charlie started repeating 'fuck'. "I'm sorry!" She said through a laugh when she suggested daring her $30 to not teach the kid how to cuss.

Just then, a text message notification popped up. From Apollo. Winnie's laughter tuned into seriousness. "Oh my god." She said out loud, trying to express her feelings. Her face went white and she physically felt her stomach drop. She opened it as quickly as she could. The first thing she saw was a gif of the kiss she had just shared with the ketchup boy and a text that says 'That was a nice kiss. Kind of makes me a little jealous.' Winnie was confused for a moment and realized that Apollo has probably been playing the game. Getting people to do stupid shit on his dollar seemed right up his alley. Was this dare from him? She felt a wave of excitement from the text, confusion from the words, and anger from the awful dare. But he texted her. He texted her and said he felt a little jealous. She was still suck in his web, she knew it, and she couldn't help but text him back.

So you play Nerve, huh?

Winnie winced as she sent the message. It probably wasn't a good idea, but she has no self control when it came to Apollo. Exiting out of iMessage, she went back to the website to look at it again. "You know what, you only live once, right? Lets just do it. Its good money." She said to Maddie as she she selected 'player' and started signing up for the game. She signed up under the username goodgirl_wf and the game had her sign into all her social media accounts, she was confused as to why but did it anyways, nervous about the first dare she was going to get.

Glancing up towards the newcomers of the cafe, Maddie wondered if they were players of the game as well. It seemed like anyone with a smartphone could be part of the action. Bringing her attention back to Winnie, subtly smiling she contemplated whether or not she should join in. Looking down towards her son, then back up towards Winnie, she nodded her head with a smirk on the corner of her lip. "Alright, I'll join in. Besides, it seems like the dares so far are super tame anyway. What's the worst that could happen?" Maddie asked though she wasn't sure if that would come to bite her on the butt later on.

The game could be a fun time between the two girls. Maddie hasn't been able to live up to the wild lifestyle she once had before she had Charles. A throwback to something she's been craving. With her smartphone in hand, Maddie moved her eyes over the word 'Player.' With a bit of hesitation, she pushed down on the button not understanding what she got herself into. The screen on her phone lit up with bright neon colors, flashing the word 'Player' in the bright yellow text. Listening to a faint voice could be heard coming from the phone. 'All dares must be filmed on the player's phone.
There are only two ways to be eliminated: fail or bail a dare.
Snitches get stitches.'

Maddie looked up towards Winnie with a furrowed brow. "So now what? Also, what do you think it meant by 'snitches get stitches'?" Maddie asked her friend, feeling confused by it all. Charlie was drooling from his mouth while waving his arms in the air.

g6JTRMj.png

Checking the new message on his phone, Apollo was surprised to have gotten a text back so quickly. This just confirmed his belief that she wasn't over him. "You can sort of say that. Except I pay people to play. You should sign up as a player. Could be fun." Giving a playful smirk, he texted back then proceeded to check Nerve for anything unusual. In the corner of his screen, Apollo noticed Maddie's face looking away from her phone camera. Little did she realize she was live right now with six watchers.

"Madelyn?! No shit, you joined Nerve." Speaking to himself, catching his sister on Nerve caught him off guard. Where this could go, he wasn't sure. But the dares he could make her do were filling his mind. This could be sweet payback for all the years she's messed with him. Except for this time, it's live in front of countless strangers. His little sister and his ex, both partaking in the game was like an early Christmas.

MENTIONS — Ketchup Boy strikes again
Sevyn quickly jotted the two young women's orders down on her notepad before taking their menus, returning back to the counter, and calling the order out to the chef in the kitchen. She was in the middle of giving a new customer his beignets and glass of pineapple juice when she heard a commotion coming from the very table she'd just left. Sevyn spun around to see none other than the ketchup boy locking lips with one of her customers. She watched in amusement as the girl pushed him off and yelled a few words to him as he headed back to his table. Sevyn didn't hesitate to follow behind him and grab him by the arm. "That's your final straw," she said as she shoved the boy towards the exit. "That goes for the rest of you, too. I don't give a fuck about no game. This is a cafe, not a playground. Don't make me get my manager." Sevyn froze, however, when she overheard what another customer had been saying.

"He just got paid five hundred bucks to kiss you," the girl said, and Sevyn raised her arched eyebrows in bewilderment. Someone had seriously paid Ketchup Boy five hundred bucks just to kiss someone? Porn star or not, that sure was a hell of a lot of money just for doing something as simple as giving someone a kiss. Sevyn continued to eavesdrop as she continued to do her job; she filled a bowl with cheerios and milk and took it back to the baby boy who sat with the two young women, finished pouring another customer his glass of pineapple juice, and greeted another man who'd just walked in. He looked awful, to say the very least, but Sevyn still kept a smile on her face. That is, until he pulled out a cigar and began to smoke right then and there. The young woman wrinkled her nose in disgust as he spoke through a cloud of grey smoke. She simply held up a finger and disappeared into the kitchen before heading back towards the counter, a tall glass in hand

"Here," Sevyn said with a sigh as she set the glass down on the counter, "Tomato juice. It's hydrating and packs enough simple sugars to get your levels up and running again." This was something that Sevyn had learned from one of her coworkers; she'd come into work hungover more times than she'd like to admit. Tomato juice was a simple solution. As she spoke, she strained her ears to catch the last bit of what was being said at the other table. She didn't hear much more, but she decided to take what she learned earlier and run with it. Without thinking, she pulled her phone out from her apron pocket and had Nerve pulled up in less than a second. Here it was; the key to her becoming a successful producer. With the money she could earn from this silly game, she could purchase all of the equipment she needed, as well as a new space to set up her recording studio. Hell, she could even save up enough cash to move out of her shitty apartment and find some place nicer. A bunch of ideas of how she could organize her studio ran through Sevyn's head as she pressed the player button on the screen and began typing in her information. She had just finished signing up when she sound of a bell pulled her back into reality.

"Order up!"

The Coffee Shop
[/div][div class=stoneContent] Enzo watched the commotion escape into the air, he laughed gently to himself. "What have I done..." He muttered. The girl gave him the bird, he laughed, "Wait till you hear about fucking nerve, you'll be begging for me to be your watcher." He scoffed under his breath. He was handed a glass of Tomato Juice, sipping it gently, he heard the familiar commotion every time he or someone else would pay for a dare. As soon as the Coffee lady shoved the boy out the door, he said a few words loud enough for her to hear. "Everywhere is a NERVE game. If you play, you don't get out until you fail, or bail. If you gain enough fans, you'd be running from day to day to complete high level dares. That player, was getting it easy. It's hell once you get the hard stuff. Just be warned, your life will change drastically." He finished his glass of tomato juice, taking another long drag from his cigar to get rid of the disgusting taste at the tip of his tongue. He looked at Sevyn, and then the other two girls at the table. They were all signing up. He should watch them, they have no idea what they are in for. When Sevyn was finished doing whatever she was doing, he gently grabbed her arm. "You seriously don't know what your doing- I'm a high-tier watcher, and I can watch out for you." He looked around nervously, biting his lip and pulling her a little bit closer to his disgusting self, but he had to get the word out. "But NERVE... You can't do anything to stop it. You'll find out at the first dare not by me." He let go, making sure he didn't leave a mark on his tight grip. NERVE made him constantly aware of his surroundings, everyone's playing now. Looking around, hoping he didn't make too big of a commotion, but just enough to exert a cool pandemonium, to warn other people in the shop. He put his head on his arms. Man he felt like shit. He needed a shower, hopefully his apartment has running water today.

Winnie Foster

Winnie rolled her eyes at the text she received from Apollo. Of course he was a watcher. Nerve was right up his alley. Paying people to bend at his will? It was probably a dream for him. Memories from their relationship flooded back into her mind. He was so arrogant and pompous and pretentious. He was so prideful of his status and money. But when they were alone in his bed with no one else around he was a totally different man. They would laugh and play and kiss. When they were together everything was perfect. Until it wasn't. She should stop texting him. She knew that texting him back would only lead to more heartbreak. And yet...

That was a nice kiss. Kind of makes me a little jealous.

So you play Nerve, huh?
them
You can sort of say that. Except I pay people to play. You should sign up as a player. Could be fun.

You can find me as goodgirl_wf. Feel free to shoot me a dare, high roller. For you, I'll do anything.

A small smile formed on her face as she sent the text. It was the first time she's heard form him in months and she felt excited about the texts and the dares that were sure to come from him. The text message rang true. Winnie would do pretty much anything for a quick dollar. Especially if the dare came from Apollo. She was taken out of her thoughts when the waitress came back and placed their food in front of them and she tanked her with a sweet smile. Her attention was brought back to her best friend. Winnie smiled when she heard the familiar sounds of Nerve coming from Maddie's phone. She watched as her friend chose 'player' and smirked. She felt as if an exciting adventure was about to start.

Clicking back onto Nerve and realized that she had been live this whole time. Her face flushed a red color and she positioned her phone so her camera was at a more flattering angle, listening to Maddie's questions. Winnie shrugged, not knowing how to answer. "I don't know. I guess we wait for a dare." She replied, staring at her phone watching her viewer count fluctuate up and down. She was about to answer Maddie's other question when she heard a man sitting at the bar explaining Nerve. She started biting her names through her anxiety as he explained that you play until you fail or bail and there's nothing you can do to stop the game once you start. The dares start to get harder as you get more popular. A twinge of regret coursed through her as she watched the iteration between him and the waitress and looked around the cafe. Everyone was on their phones either watching or playing. How could something so mainstream be harmful like the young man was explaining? She decided to ignore the warning she overheard.

Winnie's heart skipped a beat as she heard a chime on her phone, thinking it was a message from Apollo. But it wasn't. It was a dare. Her first dare. Her stomach dropped and she was nervous to look at her phone. She opened Nerve and read the dare aloud to Maddie. "Stand on the table and announce to the cafe that you've signed up for nerve under your username. $100" Winnie shrugged at the dare and looked up at Maddie. "Seems easy enough." She said, and positioned herself in a way that it was going to be easy to stand up on the table. "Well, here I go!" She announced to Winnie before stepping onto their shared table. She got a few strange looks and she cleared her throat before saying loudly, "Hello! I am now a player! Follow me at good girl underscore W F!" This first dare already felt invigorating. She giggled after her announcement and did a little bow before climbing off the table and sitting back down in her seat.

With adrenaline pumping through her body she smiled at Charlie who was laughing and clapping his hands. She heard the 'cha-ching' sound on her phone and a message popped up saying 'DARE COMPLETE'. She read the message that followed aloud. "Winifred, one hundred dollars has been wired to your account." She smiled looking down at her phone. "Damn that was fun. And the quickest $100 I've ever made!" She said to her best friend sitting across from her. She continued to eat her breakfast as she watched her watcher following go up in numbers.

Seeing a notification pop up on his screen, Apollo deviously smirked at Winnie's username. "goodgirl_wf. Ha! That's cute." Without hesitation he typed it into the app, leaving his sister's live feed seeing as she hasn't grasped the game's concept yet. When Winnie's stream appeared he noticed that her views were quickly climbing as she completed her dare. Apollo couldn't help but laugh at her little performance, it was priceless. "Okay, Winifred. I see you." Apollo had something in mind for her, but to start the fun off just right, he scrolled back to Maddie's stream. "Come on Madelyn, it's not that hard to understand. Let's start you off with something small."

Typing his dare into the phone along with the dollar amount, Apollo waited to see if she would commit. "Hope you're hungry baby sis. especially for a hundred dollars." Apollo said while sitting comfortably on his couch. With his eyes glued to the screen, the young aristocrat was already scheming what to do with Winnie. Since that wasn't his baby sister, it could have been as outlandish as his sick little mind could come up with.

Subtly eavesdropping in on what the man was telling the waitress, Madelyn felt some slight dread after signing up as a 'Player.' Was it really like how he described? Maybe it was just meant to scare the new players. Yeah, that's probably the reason why. Lots of people are partaking, so what could possibly go wrong? Plus, the extra cash would be sweet. Without realizing, Maddie was live this whole time, with only six views. One of them being her brother. As Maddie started to feed Charles, her attention was grabbed hearing Winnie's phone chime. "So that's how you get the dares. Like a text message." Maddie commented, watching her best friend climb onto the table to complete her dare.

A hundred bucks earned just like that. This game was looking to be a cakewalk for Maddie if the dares were that easy and mundane. "Holy shit! That was so rad Winnie! I'm digging the username. I made mine honeybaebee."Maddie congratulated her best friend, giving her a high five slightly giggling. That's when Maddie felt her phone vibrate and ding. Glancing down at the screen there was a little look of disgust as she read her dare. "Steal someone's breakfast, and eat it for a hundred dollars. What the hell! Why do I get the weird one?" Maddie was clearly annoyed and a tad nervous. A timer appeared in the middle of her screen, counting down from five minutes.

Needing to think fast, Maddie's eyes shifted around the cafe for someone's food to jack. "Shit! I only have five minutes." Maddie was slightly panicking but quickly realized there was a loophole in her dumb request. "Winnie, I'm taking your food. I'll buy you something later." She told her friend, then quickly grabbed something small in front of her; scarfing it down before the timer reached zero. Finishing some of the food, the screen lit up that she completed her dare. "Madelyn, one hundred dollars has been wired to your account." Maddie cheered, with her views slightly rising. "That was disgusting but super easy. We'll be millionaires by the time this is done."

Back at the house, Apollo rolled his eyes as he watched his sister bypass the fun of the dare."Boo! That was so lame man." He wanted her to actually steal someone's food, but she still completed her task. Scrolling to Winnie's, Apollo decided to raise the stakes a little. "Okay baby girl. Let's see if you like a little bit of ink." Apollo sent the dare off to Winnie's account and was feeling confident in this one. 'Get Apollo tattooed on your butt for two hundred dollars.' It was sick like he was trying to brand her as property. The sociopath was having a little too much fun with himself.

[/div][div class=stoneContent]Enzo sighed, some people you can't look out for, they have to go free and find out themselves what kind of hell they'll be in. He opened the "New Player" feed, noticing Winifred and Madelyn's users pop up. He opened their livestreams. The pretty girls were racking up views quickly... Too quickly. He decided to help them out a bit, with a dare almost impossible for one of those girls to do. He hoped it was at least impossible. He realized one of the other high-tiered watchers had been paying close attention to Winifred. His name... "Apollo". Enzo did a quick search of him. "Apollo Summers, business developer, brother to... Madelyn Summers." He glanced at Madelyn's live. "Hmm... I wonder what Apollo would do to this... She probably will be taken off reallllll quick." He grinned, however he did like having the two girls on the live, they were different from the usual crowd. He sent out his dare, the animation flashing, over and over, The lights flickered lightly. E.Z. Was in the house. The alarm sent out to all the watchers, and Madelyn's stream blew up. The chat spamming "E.z." over and over. He smiled, biting his lip. The title of the dare "Give the Cam Girl what she Wants." The description filing in the background. If you survive this next blow, then I'll send you more money. Give her a lap dance. If you tell her, you lose, if you give her any indication that you are going to do it, then you. Lose. I'll choose the song. 600$ He smiled, then choosing one of his favorite songs he likes to play for dares. Over the speakers in the café... There was silence. Then the song came over. "Play On." It said as soon as the animation ended on the live screen.
