Are there any RPG systems for Sci-fi plays?

Mr.Sandstorm

Casualy coming your way, stand by.
I've seen a few role-playing systems (for forum-based games) already, but all of them seem to be tailored for a fantasy setting.
Now, there must definitely be RPG systems for sfi-fi settings, but I'm more interested in knowing if any of them hold ground in terms of usefullness, or are at least held in high remark by the Sci-Fi community.

(By usefullness, I mean, do they work for a wide scope of genres?)

I don't know, wouldn't you just switch knight for space marine? I don't think sci-fi scenarios would be so much different than fantasy scenarios. I mean, sci fi roleplays are technically still fantasy since it's fiction.

Savage Worlds is a great all around system that can handle any genre, and while lighter than dnd, it isn't super light.

The only reason I don't use it more is that I like casual simulationism, and one SW is not, is it isn't simulationist.

Not quite. At least, if you analyse the space-travel branch, which deals with many parameters that are completely diferent from a regular, ground-centered story. There's hazards like radiation, vaccuum exposure, there's FTL travel, there's zero-gravity enviroments, distances that reach for many millions of kilometers, etc.

@Grey and @DarkLightHitomi ,

Thanks for the references, I'll check them out!
