Killshot by Magdalena Bay

filler thing. ignore

  • themes: bar/restaurant dynamics, revenge, redemption, yakuza, vigilantes, found family, double lives, murder, mystery, cutthroat, betrayal, relationships being challenged

TLDR; so basically, ur char has been apart of this vigilante crime group for years and work at this bar which is rly a front for hitmen. they have their lil jobs (bartender, cook, server, etc..) but their true job/primary source of income is killing yakuza members on their "off days" (offing someone days haha). recently, one of their members committed suicide and left a note addressed to everyone: "i smell a rat". they gotta deal w that. everyone has their own ideas + solutions. it's a paranoia-induced mess.

    > Tokyo, Japan, 2002

Red Moon Bar. In the Shinjuku district of Tokyo, this bar since 1978 is dwarfed by the others, boasting only average success. And that is intentional. Attention is bad, but profits? Much needed. An intimate bar with constant red light drowning out any colors who dare draw breath. An attached dining room that doubles as a non-smoking area. , 20-top bar seating, 4 bar tables, and 15 dining room tables. Their clientele is diverse. Some are married men with their mistresses. Some are tourists. Foreigners. College students. Old-time friends. The owner and staff don't really give a shit. They only know one goal and have known it for years: to take down members of the yakuza.

Originally started by the owner's father before his passing, the current owner has kept it going with friends he has known for years. Friends in seedy crime circles who have been wronged by the yakuza in some way or another. They are legendary. They are the best of the best at their craft: killing. They want revenge -- most of them. Maybe others have nowhere to go except to the family they have known for years. Their loyalties are without question. To Red Moon Bar, to the owner, to the people they have known. For some, most importantly, to their own revenge. Even if it kills them.

Since the owner passed and his son took over, the front business and back business has been successful. Until one autumn day, they find out one of their members, a server named Saori, has committed suicide for unknown reasons. She left a note only stating one thing:

    丨 丂爪乇ㄥㄥ 卂 尺卂ㄒ.

This has induced paranoia among their ranks. The back business has come to a temporary stop. The cops might be investigating the suicide, but some of the members are looking deeper. Some speculate it was not a suicide at all. Others believe it was in order to protect the group. And the note. Was it written willfully? If so, who the fuck is the rat? Wednesday through Saturday, 14:00 to 04:00, the group must go about their "front" professions and search deliriously for answers in order to return to their "back" life.

APPLICATIONS
INQUIRE DOWN BELOW ↓

  • Owner. TAKEN by e v i e v i
    • The previous owner's son who has inherited Red Moon Bar. As the owner, he oversees every single employee and has the final say in any menu change, hiring, firing, interior and exterior designs, payroll, and all the other delightful responsibilities that come with owning a bar -- but this, he leaves to the General Manager. He is the unofficially elected "head" of their vigilante group and assigns all "hits" to his employees. This is his main specialty, but he is adequately involved in the dealings of his bar.

  • General Manager TAKEN by leviohsa leviohsa .
    • The owner's right hand. They have known the owner the longest + have been involved in the vigilante circle the longest. Their history with the owner/owner's father is suggested to be a "taking in a stray" situation. Their loyalty is unwavering. They would never bite the hand that feeds them. As a General Manager, they are the nucleus of the Red Moon Bar. They get their hands the dirtiest in supervisor scheduling, menu changes, hiring, firing, payroll, promotions, and dealing with complaints from guests. They are the underboss, the second-in-command. Some staff believe them to be the true boss.

  • Front of House Supervisor TAKEN by Helioflos Helioflos .
    • They oversee the bar and collaborate closely with the GM and Back of House Supervisor. They, too, go way back with the Owner and GM. Primarily, the FoH Supervisor creates the server/bartender/host's scheduling, deals with liquor/beer inventory, and walks the floor during service to check for service quality/guest satisfaction. They are the most deeply affected by Saori's death and cannot accept it as a suicide. They are the most honest of the group and hellbent on finding the truth. Hopefully their motivations are not drowned in a liquor bottle.

  • Back of House Supervisor TAKEN by CurryFlurry CurryFlurry .
    • They are in charge of the kitchen staff, food inventory, scheduling for BoH, food prep flow, menu changes, and expediting. Their ferocity is sometimes dominant over the owner, as everyone understands the kitchen needs to be run like a Navy Ship. This supervisor is notorious for their strict, type A methods of management, but they are respected and will always be fair. They have the full trust of the Owner. Some suspect them to be the Rat, but that is only because of their unlikeable personality and totalitarian ways.

  • Bartenders TAKEN (3/3) by Shadow Alpha Shadow Alpha , comfortable comfortable , iridescent. iridescent.
    • These three run the 20-top bar. They run it well and have run it for years. Making drinks is almost like operating on autopilot. So is cleaning the bar. These people were selected for their outstanding charisma and social skills. They are therapists one night, companions other nights, and, for the right penny, romantic conquests. In a customer's dreams. On their "off" days, their signature style of execution is seduction and charm. Right when their victim least expects it, 乃卂爪! They're dead. Poison and charm is the bartenders' specialty.

  • The Head Chef TAKEN by Steve Jobs Steve Jobs .
    • This motherfucker is also not to be messed with. They are rightfully protective of their kitchen and kitchen staff. Maybe sometimes they get too immersed in the "front" business. Cooking is their passion, whether newfound or a longtime thing. Maybe they had food insecurities growing up. They are close with the BoH supervisor, but while the BoH takes on a "bad cop" role, the Head Cook is the "good cop". They control the flow and morale of the kitchen, and they are pretty successful in keeping it high and energetic. Secretly, they might want to leave the "back" business. It has taken a lot out of them, and with Saori's recent "decision", their feelings of escape are getting stronger.

  • Chefs TAKEN (2/2) by Frownist Frownist , Auda Auda .
    • Dealing with people was never their strong suit. They are back of house for a reason and much prefer it that way. While they probably do not appreciate the micromanaging of the BoH supervisor, they have had tougher trials in their life. On their off days, their business is a little messier than the bartenders, but they are great and precise with knives. And when the owner needs someone properly disposed of, no trace left behind, they are the ones to call.

  • The Hosts TAKEN (2/2) by Dicentra Dicentra , tsurene tsurene .
    • The first impression of Red Moon, the greeters when clients walk in for drinks or a meal. Now, the bar is open-seating, so the hosts at the podium mainly seat guests in the dining room. They were selected for not their people skills but their skills of observation. They are the most trusted between the chefs, bartenders, and servers. Maybe they dealt with highly erratic and unpredictable people in their former lives before joining the vigilantes. They are highly sensitive to any deception or shifts of behavior in people. Their role is obviously to seat guests but an additional task is weeding out suspicious guests versus normal ones. They are quick to kick out law enforcement and now presumably yakuza spies. They are enforcers of the sign: 山乇 卄卂ᐯ乇 ㄒ卄乇 尺丨Ꮆ卄ㄒ ㄒㄖ 尺乇千ㄩ丂乇 丂乇尺ᐯ丨匚乇 ㄒㄖ 卂几ㄚㄖ几乇!

  • The Servers. TAKEN (4/4) ven ven , buckybaernes buckybaernes , khai. khai. , Nano Nano
    • The 15-table dining room is either their heaven or hell. They are similar to the bartenders for their impeccable interpersonal skills, but they are a little more diverse. They must be quick on their feet, focused, have a great memory, able to take shit from customers, stand for ungodly hours, and do it all with a smile. They can breathe a bit more and be themselves -- that is, if they read a table correctly. Saori was a former server, and her loss has shaken the hearts of the servers specifically. They worked closely with her and have different speculations of what might have happened. Some are so deeply affected they have taken the investigation in their own hands privately, as to not be corrupted by a potential Rat.

"Hani"
The Owner
Amihan Shiratori or most notably called "Hani" by the staff of Red Moon. "Hani the Half-Man" for his pathetic height and split personality tendencies.

Hanzo would not leave his son unequipped in this world of violence. When he wasn't killing yakuza or keeping a low profile, he was training Hani. Guns, close combat, explosives, knives, any monstrous act of violence inflicted upon another human being that one could think of. The most pertinent lesson: leaving no fucking trace. Despite his brutal and murky exposure to the crime world, Hani was spoiled. Private school, the nicest clothes, latest technology, best vacations. His father spoiled him rotten if he performed well -- and he did.

This left him apathetic, sarcastic, shitty, with a questionable sense of humor. The rigorous trials his father put him through bred a complicated relationship with the man and even more complications arose with Hanzo's death in 2001. One thing was true. Hani respected the man and his legacy and would accept the torch passed on to him. He has a blood lust reserved solely for yakuza members. An unquenchable sadistic thirst that even pushes the boundaries of mere revenge. What if he just likes killing? As an expert hitman, they have been unable to track him, his staff, or trace instances back to his establishment for almost a year. Until Saori's death.

As the 24-year-old owner, he is absent some days out of the week and leaves operations up to his general manager. He does run his ship somewhat well, as he does not micromanage (that's other people's jobs). Maybe he is a bit careless with the "front" business and focuses more on the "back" business (his specialty). Now that operations in the "back" have halted, he has been particularly irritable and more vice-seeking than usual. Sometimes, staff can be on edge with Hani, as he is prone to explosive tirades about the most random shit, directed at the most random people. He tries to make up for it though, with expensive gifts and apologies. People suspect he has some kind of head injury that causes this unpredictable behavior and give him a pass.

Personality Overview -
A 21-year-old young and upcoming bartender that takes pride in his new drink concoctions and how the customers respond. He has an air about him that allows him to contort to the needs of those around him and come off as always interested and fully involved. Some say it's because there's nothing going on in his head beyond his current task, while others assume he was born with a strong sense of empathy. Patrons rarely delve deeper as Natsuki truly embodied all that one would want from a bartender: Flirty, overly confident, and a bright disposition fitting of a man whose job required personal relationships.

When around his friends and coworkers, Natsuki allows his darker sense of humor to slip out and says the first thing that comes to his mind. He doesn't feel the need to censor himself as much. Which could cause a problem among the other employees as his brash honesty can be seen as a lack of care or as him being nosey. If he has a question that is burning a hole in his brain, he's going to ask as soon as he can even if the nature of the question is personal or deemed silly.

Backstory Overview -

Natsuki "Nana" Nakayama, the youngest of the Nakayama clan that has held the botany community within its grasp for generations. The Nakayama's were often spoken of as if they were blessed by the nature kami themselves and born with green palms rather than a simple thumb. Their skillset had allowed them to branch out in a variety of fields that ranged from growing non-native plants in the fickle Japanese weather, maintaining almost extinct species, and even discovering medical properties that would have otherwise been overlooked. What they did not allow the public to be aware of was their connections with the darker side of society, they were the top producers of organic poisons, stimulants, and herbal hallucinogens that would be undetectable in most cases or appear as a symptom of other medical emergencies.

This was the beginning of their downfall among the yakuza who wanted to monopolize the Nakayama's as their sole source of poison. The in-fighting was minimal compared to the damage that would later occur as some of the Nakayama's were taken hostage only to be slaughtered for withholding any information. This genuine lack of care for their lives instilled a strong generational hatred for all those that were in the yakuza and they completely shifted their business target venture to the Shiratori mafia that had been making a name for themselves. This joint partnership has continued and Natsuki was raised in the ways of his family and undergone Muay Thai training as soon as he was able to comprehend. When Hanzo chose to leave the life behind, Natsuki's parents had no problem obliging as it would not affect their studies of poisons and other plant properties.

This joint partnership has continued and Natsuki was raised in the ways of his family and undergone Muay Thai training as soon as he was able to. He's only been working directly for Hani for the last 3 years as he was continuing his studies to further develop himself into a botanist worthy of the Nakayama name. For one that has been praised as a star amongst the Nakayama's, Natsuki never appears to be more than an overly cheerful guy that believes his appearance will get him out of trouble before having to resort to using his extensive knowledge. He was once quoted saying
"Hani doesn't let me serve drinks because I'm lethal and intelligent, he put me here because I'm SEXY, lethal, and intelligent. Yes, in that order. Common people judge by appearance first, never brains. Why use my own head when they're not thinking with the correct one?"

Likes: Being complimented, moments when his level of intelligence taking people by surprise, teasing Hani for his height growing a variety of spider lilies at home, Sphynx cats, raw seafood, and a good challenge

Dislikes: Being told that his methods aren't correct, dull people that bring down the vibes of the bar, cicadas, getting assigned a boring mission, limes (he views them as botanical disasters that should've never existed, wearing anything yellow, and having a failed experiment with developing new strands of poisons

M.O: Poisons are his go to method with the ease that comes along with cleaning up and how simple it is to sneak them into the human body. Along with powdered poisons, he often has a few filled syringes on his person at all times. Their effects vary from paralysis, dulling the senses, anesthetics, or simply death. If there comes a time for him to have to get his hands bloodied, then he has a disturbing love for daggers and knives. He feels that they really compliment his "sexy, deadly" bartender persona. Plus, he already has an extensive understanding of the vascular system so it's not hard for him to create a few nicks to disrupt it.

rin

the four-eyed chef

Alias: “Rin” the name most refer to her by.

Full name: Ryuko Anrei, her birth name and a name only a select few within the ranks of Red Moon are aware of.

Age: 23

Date of birth: October 11th 1978

Blood type: AB+

Sexuality: Homosexual

Appearance
Height: 5’7” (170 cm)
Weight: 129 Ibs (58 kg)

An emerald-eyed gaze unlike anything in the world, piercing through the very framework of all who approach, is accompanied by long black hair that adorns her pale face. Careful and slender, Rin emits stealth in the way she moves. Her footsteps are quiet and her breath steady. Reflective of a highly trained predator, she never makes a sound, and like a ghost one would never notice her trailing until it’s much too late. Rin’s head hangs low as she observes the world, her voice almost always stoic when she speaks, and the look behind her lenses remains calm and unmoving—almost unreadable. She doesn’t laugh, she doesn’t so much as smile, her face remains an expressionless haze.

Her attire is simple. Plain blacks and varying shades of gray, sometimes even the occasional red. Rin doesn’t dress for looks or comfort, while she’s well kept and presentable, she dresses in a way that’s suitable for all situations, but more importantly, the nature of her work. Bright colors tend to draw the eye to where it doesn’t belong, and in response, Rin has learned to darken her wardrobe.

Personality
A lone outsider who wonders the world unseen, the people who know her would describe her as quiet, but at the same time, a cold, unempathetic woman. Rin often fades into the background. When she does speak her monotone voice may mask her true intentions, but her words are as sharp as the blades she carries, sparing no time for mercy. Everything she does, she does with efficiency and leaves no room for irrational thinking—even at the expense of others. Sometimes speaking with her outside of her work seems nigh impossible, as she’s quick to walk away once the topic loses her faltering interest.

Rin has grown to learn to keep the world at arm’s length, and the paranoia and distrust of others often bleeds into goal-driven selfishness. She isn’t a part of Red Moon Bar because of loyalty or for some self proclaimed hero complex, the only reason she remains is because the organization’s goals just so happen to align with hers, and she wouldn’t sacrifice those goals for anyone as her hatred for the yakuza flows through her blood, and her love for her sister even more so.

Rin is an enigma. She rarely shares details of her personal life, not even her real name is widely known among the organization’s ranks, and her distance has only further grown following the proclaimed suicide. That incessent feeling in the back of her mind telling her to vanish grows more, and she still has yet to act on it.

“Modus Operandi”
Rin has two methods of cleansing problems—her twin stiletto blades, otherwise known as Needle and Piercer (as kindly named by her dear sister Nanako), and her creation of poison, a skill she managed to cultivate during her time underneath the yakuza’s finger tips. While certain times would call for a precise slice, Rin very much prefers the less messy and hands-on way of cleansing scumbags. The mess afterwards creates too much work.

When she’s on the job, her tactic is simple—stalk, wait, and then finish the job. Rarely does it require any extra steps for someone with such an experienced hand. Rin incorporates stealth, carefulness, and unwavering patience into her style, there is always a right moment if one has what it takes to wait for it. Because of this, Rin much prefers working alone during jobs as others tend to not possess the same level of poise that she does.

Backstory

❝It doesn’t matter what name I go by. What does matter is that I get the job done. Call me Rin.❞

If you were to ask the aloof four-eyed chef in the back of the kitchen her name, she would always utter that same sentence with such a casual tone. If it weren’t for this carefully fabricated front, one would never think twice about the danger she poses. She was never as fortunate as the rest of her coworkers. She didn’t have a family’s fortune to inherit, or years of carefully built connections. The only reason she chose to walk this bloodstained path is because she happened to be born on the wrong side of society and got lucky with Hani’s glance.

Her father was a useless man, a dead beat who blew all his money on drugs and prostitutes. So it was only natural that when his funds dried up he’d go crawling back to the same men who gave him a taste of fortune in the first place—the yakuza. The old man’s endeavors would catch up to him, but before they could, he would take his own life. Leaving his two daughters alone in the clutches of the yakuza who wanted their money.

With the threat of death hanging over the young girl’s head, she was left alone in the streets, fending for her and her sister, just to make enough to pay off an impossible debt. Eventually when petty theft wasn’t enough, she would turn to a much more lucrative way of business—the taking of lives. It was never bloody, as her small, malnourished body couldn’t take on fully grown men—instead it was poison, given by the same men who indebted her, and it was effective. With just a drop, they would gradually become sicker and sicker, eventually parishing in their beds. It would be ruled as sudden illness, every single time. Through the extensive training administered by the yakuza, she would become good at what she did, and she would fast. And when the young girl became a teenager and developed her innate talent with knives, though those victims wouldn’t even be given the mercy of being found.

Perhaps it was foolish of the girl to believe she could pay off this debt and be left to a life of solitude, some semblance of a normal life with her younger sister. She could let her go to college, be a doctor. But then time and time again the loan shark pushed and pushed until one day, they decided they had no more room to wait around for some kids. So when they arrived at the girl’s run down shed, guns in hand, the men would learn that it wouldn’t be her blood that would wipe across the field that day. And just like the people of the past, they wouldn’t be heard from again.

She moved from place to place afterwards, and her fantasies of being a teenager were just that—fantasies. Why abandon something when you’re good at it? Especially when dirtbags like that loan shark get to keep walking? And so, this young girl, now going by Rin, would continue as a lone hitman. She hoped to give her sister a new life, one separated from the things that haunted them in the past. It wasn’t until another job where she’d first encountered the son of Hanzo, though he was just a teenager at the time. In her efforts to eliminate a stray loan shark, he’d get to the man first. That would be how the two would first cross paths, and intrigued by the girl’s particular nature, he’d invite her for a meal, the meal that would lead her to join the ranks of Red Moon.

you made your choice. i made mine!

With bright orange glasses and clothes as loud as his voice, Yoshio was impossible to ignore. He thrived on attention, walking into any room like he owned it, exuding an air of eccentric confidence that made people stare, often unsure whether to laugh or be terrified.

You'd think his exuberance would make him a walking target, right? Hitmen are supposed to be more... discreet. Well, that's kind of the point. While others might see an peacock strutting around, Yoshio knows exactly how to leverage that attention to divert suspicion away from his more covert dealings. He has a knack for deep observation, noticing the little things—the subtle shifts in mood, the unspoken tensions—and often used these insights to. He has a way of disarming even the most guarded, and his eyes always seem to carry a hint of mischief, as if waiting for the right moment to strike.

Yoshio is a man dedicated to his "family" and the common goal that binds them together. He has a strong sense of practicality and is not afraid to bend and break the rules to try and make his and his closed ones' life easier. To him, the line between right and wrong is flexible, especially when survival or comfort is at stake. His actions, though sometimes questionable, are always driven by a desire to protect and provide for those he cared for, even if it meant becoming a shield to hide behind.

However, Yoshio is significantly less forgiving towards those who dare threaten his inner circle. Unfortunately, that happens to be a lot of people. Any pleading or recounting of tragic backstories would fall into deaf ears, as Yoshio has no time for sympathy when it comes to those who endanger his family. He believes that everyone makes their choices, and if those choices bring harm to the people he cares about, then they must face the consequences—no exceptions, no second chances.

Because of the horrific events he experienced throughout the years, Yoshio developed a sense for gallows humor and an uncanny ability to find levity in the darkest situations, to the point where even the most gruesome of circumstances could no longer phase him. He would crack jokes in moments that left others speechless, defusing tension with his sharp wit, and making the unbearable slightly more manageable... or make it even more unsettling. His laughter, though genuine, carried a weight of someone who had stared into the abyss and decided to mock it rather than let it consume him. That doesn't mean he's callous; in fact, he's actually quite sentimental beneath his tough exterior. It’s just his own way of offering comfort.

modus operandi

Yoshio prefers to do maximum damage in minimum time, and with his physical prowess, he could do so with ease. At the same time, he believed guns were too fast, too "easy" for the victim. He believed true damage came not just from physical harm, but from the psychological toll inflicted over time. He thrived on control, and in his view, taking time to break someone down left a lasting impression that a bullet never could.

One way he'd kill someone is through strangulation. Whether it's from a garrote, a cord, or a belt, Yoshio can be up close to the target without letting any blood or noise escape. He's also fond of electrocution, either with stun gloves or with tasers of varying ranges.

early life

It was almost a decade into the post-war era. China had recently concluded a civil war and the country had a governmental upheaval. There, on a chilly autumn day, a boy named Lin Yixiong was born when the leaves had already begun to fall, leaving the trees bare against a gray sky. His family, like many others, struggled to adapt to the sweeping changes that came with the new regime. Resources were scarce, opportunities even more so, and life was a daily fight for survival. His parents, weary from the years of conflict and hardship, saw little future for their children in their homeland.

They immigrated to Yokohama, Japan for an industrial "training scheme," bringing their son and daughters with them in hopes of better opportunities. The family found themselves caught in a cycle of grueling labor, long hours, and barely enough money to keep food on the table. Still, Yixiong's parents held onto hope, dreaming of saving enough money to start a small business—maybe a noodle shop or a bakery—something that would finally allow them to own their lives.

But the yakuza had other plans.

His parents had unknowingly become entangled with one of the local gangs, who controlled the area where they worked. At first, it was just small "protection fees"—a few yen here and there to ensure their stall wasn’t vandalized or their goods weren’t stolen. It seemed reasonable to them at the time. After all, everyone else was paying it.

But as time went on, the demands grew heavier. What started as an affordable price quickly turned into an impossible burden. They couldn’t keep up, and when they finally refused, the consequences were swift and brutal. His father was beaten within an inch of his life, and his mother... well, she didn’t make it.

Yixiong's sisters were taken as collateral for his parents' debt. But him? He was left behind, a small child abandoned in a foreign world. He was placed into institutional care for a couple of years until he became "too old," later Japanizing his birth name from "Lin Yixiong" to "Hayashi Yoshio" in an effort to assimilate and survive.

His adolescence and early adulthood was filled with debauchery, violence, and a deep, festering hatred for the underworld that had stolen everything from him. He indulged in the vices that surrounded him—gambling, drinking, and the occasional street fight—because, for him, there was no point in playing by the rules when the rules had failed him so utterly.

That was until Shiratori Hanzo came along and made proper use of his strength by recruiting him as a hitman, an hitman working in a restaurant like the one his parents once dreamt of running. They were in the same crime circle for years, yet he never got a chance to do something like this until now. Regardless if it was out of genuine camaraderie or if he was being used as a pawn, they were united by a common goal, and Yoshio wouldn't have it any other way.

under hanzo

In 1988, Yoshio was hired at Red Moon Bar, starting off as one of the hosts. Compared to some of Hanzo's other friends, who were managing the bar/restaurant a decade ago, he joined pretty late. However, he quickly developed more... interesting connections with them. Most of them one-sided. But regardless, he'll always respect them and will never forget who they were.

Being a host was simple enough, welcoming guests, taking reservations, kicking out any law enforcement that are hot on their heels. The usual stuff. Of course, regular host duties can get stressful, especially when dealing with aggressive customers that refuse to listen. But compared to the street life he experienced as a young man, this felt almost comfortable.

The bar/restaurant was only part of the reason why he agreed to work there. No, he was there for the real business.

The act of killing the yakuza was intoxicating. Each target was not just another name on a list; they represented the embodiment of the oppression that had haunted him throughout his life. With every kill, he felt a sense of release—a purging of the rage and pain that had built up since childhood. Though he had to remain composed for the sake of the mission, he couldn't deny the thrill that coursed through him after each successful hit.

As days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Yoshio's role in the organization expanded. He learned the ins and outs of the business, from the delicate art of deception to the brutal reality of violence. Each assignment became a lesson, each encounter a reminder of the pain he had endured and the family he had lost. Until finally, he was promoted to Front of House supervisor.

In the beginning, he was a little uncomfortable with how there were underage people in a place meant for adults. From his coworkers' children following them around, to teenagers who had nowhere else to go, Yoshio found the atmosphere confusing. He wasn't sure if they should even be here in the first place, but due to spending the rest of his youth in an orphanage, he wondered if this was the only way for their parents to watch over their kids. He later grew a soft spot towards them and attempted to help take care of them, though there wasn't much he could do as a non-relative that was already hiding from the law.

That sentiment grew deeper as he lost his coworkers one by one. Each death fueled his already deep hatred against the yakuza, but it also made him dread about how the younger members of Red Moon will soon take up their mantle. But at the end of the day, Yoshio was a hitman. He had chosen this life, knowing full well the cost of his decisions, so he'll remain there in order to continue disrupting the underworld.

under hani

After Shiratori Hanzo's son inherited the Red Moon Bar, Yoshio stepped down from his position of Front of House Supervisor in favor of Matsuda Kazuo, a diligent man who grew particularly close with Hani and Kage.

Instead of retiring like the rest of his former colleagues, Yoshio chose to return to his roots—reverting back to his old position as a host. It was strange for a senior member to willingly relinquish their title for a younger person. And in Red Moon's case, it was extremely weird, idiotic even, to stay in dangerous territory while others would dream of escaping this place. But he had a few reasons that weren't just for nostalgia.

The demotion wasn’t a step back for him, but rather a way to keep an eye on new management while relaxing a little bit. As much as he cared for Hani, his unpredictability would end up leaving Red Moon in shambles if left unchecked. Yoshio wanted to make sure the new roster, especially Kazuo, were able to control him in case the older man is no longer with them.

It was finally time for his coworkers' children and a few newcomers to fill out the roles left behind, and his worries of potentially them dying was getting closer to becoming a reality. So when Saori "committed suicide" and left a note stating that a rat is on the loose, Yoshio became hellbent on finding out the truth.

It didn't matter if it was a rat or an outsider that killed her, or if she actually did commit suicide. He's determined to catch the person who ruined the trust of the group and rip them with his bare hands.

family

Yoshio is one of the only living members of Hanzo's group to not get married and/or have any children. It was assumed that he wanted to maintain a bachelor lifestyle, and that was partially true. In reality, he didn't want to risk losing anyone else he cared about. After what happened to his parents and his sisters, the thought of dragging other people into his world terrified him. It didn't help that his comrades either left their own children orphaned or abused.

how greedy

Contrary to his muscular appearance, Yoshio is a glutton. He especially like chuka ryori (Japanese Chinese dishes) like tenshinhan, mabo nasu, and yurinchi. Quality and authenticity doesn't matter as long as the food tastes good.

those three scars

The scars on Yoshio's chest didn't come from a mission gone wrong or an altercation between coworkers; they came from an ex-lover.

Though he refused to share any further details about them or what transpired, there are three things that can be inferred: they're still alive, they're someone that Yoshio still held in high esteem, and they became significantly more powerful since the couple broke up.

in mourning

Regardless if he actually got along with them in the past, Yoshio still visits his old coworkers' burial sites. He understood that not all of his new colleagues have the best relationships with their families, so he'd lie and say he went out gambling instead.

One can see Yuusuke at the corner of a bar and you’d immediately know to avoid the man. All sharp edges from his face and posture, it was clear that he didn’t want to talk to anyone and for anyone to talk to him. Black hair and black eyes, his clothes mirrored his features and its colour ranges from asphalt to charcoal.

He favoured turtlenecks to cover up the litany of tattoos and scars that adorned his body, and he liked the smell of leather jackets. His parents weren’t there to be disappointed from the ink, so he didn’t see the harm of also getting piercings.

When does a man become a monster? Is it in the choices he makes, or the desires that drive him? At first glance, her stare might seem presumptuous, bold, perhaps even flattering. Her eyes drill into you, intense and unrelenting, drawing you in. It isn't until you notice her eyes fixed on your jugular, the subtle twitch of a smile playing at her lips, that you feel terrified to even swallow.

Height
5'10" (178.2cm)

Masamune has the body of someone beyond their years. Cuts and burn marks litter his arms while crows feet threaten the edge of his eyes. Even his gait seems like that of a middle aged cook rather than a spry thirty-something. He keeps his muscles covered in a protective layer of fat and his lungs coated in tar. It's a wonder that his heart and liver still rival that of an athlete, but he supposes its his parents, yet again condemning him to a long life. Typically, one can find him in casual wear with a preference towards jeans and hoodies.
Personality
With a knife in one hand, and a blowtorch in the other, Masamune has managed to surpass his father in both cooking prowess and austerity. He runs a tight ship, taking neither laziness nor lip from his subordinates. Just as easily as he will praise someone, he will threaten to fire them (despite not having the power to).

But those who have worked at the Red Moon Bar long enough know that it is not without love. Having seen the depravity of Japan's criminals, he feels compelled to protect his kitchen from both mental and physical harm, even when it means butting heads with Hani.

While he tacitly respects the owner's authority, he prioritizes the well being of the employees and restaurant over that of their secondary business. If he detects something wrong, he'll be the first to drag them outside and talk shop and likely send them home.
Backstory
Unlike most inheritors of the Red Moon Bar, Masamune was no born killer.

He entered the world alone, afraid, and with nothing of his own. Born in a soapland while his father was in the middle of a gig, neither had the chance to see Masamune's mother until she was already dead. Instead, he spent the first few years of his life being raised by his aunt, the owner. Where most babies were cradled by their mothers, he sat in the back of his aunt's office watching her tiny CRT TV and folding towels. His only socialization came in the form of chatting with the ladies in the bath house and occasionally babysitting their kids.

Once he was old enough to pick up a knife, his father parked him in the kitchen along with the other employees of the Red Moon Bar. Washing dishes, peeling vegetables, and marinating eggs became his after school activity until he "graduated" to chopping meat and vegetables. Though he was slow, Masamune was never short on strength or energy. He inherited his mother's eyesight and his father's temperament, leading to an ornery butcher when his father divulged the truth of his past. After he turned eighteen he transitioned from a blissful child to part-time cleaner.

Initially Masamune balked at the act--not because killing was wrong, but because handling corpses was disgusting. They reeked of misery, not unlike the pigs they brought in for chashu. He told himself that these criminals deserved their fates; they were the ones extorted his aunt, keeping everyone there trapped in prostitution.

The idea that the Red Moon Bar enacted justice allowed him to compartmentalize the acts everyone committed and focus on his schoolwork. Rather than inherit his position, his father wanted him to pursue a noble, civilian career. Truthfully his dad was a terrible chef. He could cook edible meals, but his subordinates outshone him in both taste and technical skill. He didn't even seem to enjoy cooking. His true strength laid in leadership.

He would die for his crew just as easily as he would kill them.

And that's what he did.

At forty years old, Hirohito Hayase died protecting Hanzo from a bullet. Having been in the middle of a career examination, he didn't hear of the news for several hours; just as he never said goodbye to his mother, he couldn't say goodbye to his father until well after the body went cold.

For several years Masamune distanced himself from the Red Moon bar, taking overtime at every opportunity and eating takeout when possible. He made friends of course, entered a few toxic relationships, and bought a car; however, it was never enough.

He missed having a family, he missed cooking, and he missed yelling at his father's friends. On the second anniversary of his father's death he bought fifty handles of whiskey and locked himself in his apartment. He thought if he drank enough that he'd eventually succumb to alcohol poisoning and die a slow, but painless death. He was no bartender, but he knew how to make enough cocktails to keep things interesting. Old fashion, whiskey sour, Irish coffee, high ball, screwdriver, ramune iced, (he had a surprising array of random foods from various places). Once he ran out of ideas, he took to shots and drunk calls, earning mixed reactions to his escapades.

The spirit of his parents must have possessed his body because he threw up after the second bottle.

So he tried again.

Unfortunately death never came. Even after he got over the vomit-scented barrier, neither his liver nor his kidney would give in. Instead he entered a cycle of eating chicken katsu, drinking, and blacking out. It was not until he reached the halfway point that he finally stopped. Just as there was no real event that led to his spiral, there was nothing that specifically compelled him to stop. He just tired of purgatory.

Very drunkenly, he burned his hand cooking katsu and headed to the Red Moon Bar the next morning. With no other job prospects, Masamune succumbed to his birthright and became the kitchen's new brash, no nonsense guardian.

Modus Operandi
Butchering

He tries to stay off the field whenever possible, acting more like a cleaner than a killer, but he'll be someone's substitute if it's truly necessary. As his background suggests, his specialty lies with knives. Slicing, gutting, and bloodletting are no problem to him. He cuts with machine-like precision, keeping mess to a minimum. On more than one occasion someone has asked whether he's ever done anything with the corpses he's so masterfully butchered, to which he winks and leaves a plate of katsu.

Tenderizing

When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. When you have fists, everyone is a punching bag. A mixture of training with his father and "practicing" on his aunt's unruly customers have given him experience in unarmed combat as well as improvised weaponry.
Extra
01.
Surprisingly, his favorite dish is takoyaki. Unsurprisingly, his mother's favorite food was chicken katsu.
02.
He smells of tobacco, vanilla, and cinnamon
03.
Seeing a warm smile is akin to Haley's comet, a once-in-a-lifetime event.
04.
Due to his background, he is particularly brutal towards traffickers, johns, and domestic abusers.

Pearls are valuable gemstones, but Shinju is anything but. Her lashes are long, and she has a decent bit of height to her, but that’s about it. Red eyes peer ominously from amidst a dark ensemble, and the black hair whose bangs have been left to grow just a tad too long have been haphazardly cut short with clear at home doctoring. Though not repulsive to look at, she’s clearly someone who doesn’t care much for looking pleasing to the eye.

Her knuckles are scarred, and the palms of her hand have clear calluses. Lately, she’s been troubled by the fact that it’s hard for her to gain muscle.

    personality.

Anyone with the pleasure of meeting Shinju agrees that the woman has a way with words. Unfortunately, she simply chooses not to nine times out of ten. The moment you shed the label of honoured guest or exhaust your usefulness, her interest in maintaining her polite veneer instantly vanishes like bubbles in the sea. A distinct lack of interest in wading through the treacherous waters of maintaining relationships makes for an individual who nonchalantly says whatever she wants and takes most insults like water off a duck’s back.

Claiming that Shinju is a laid back individual, however, is a severe misjudgement of her personality. For all the insults she can take in stride, her anger remains surprisingly explosive in the face of the most minor of inconveniences. Accidentally pushed a chair into her? Brace yourself to catch a flying chair. Didn’t cover your sneeze in her vicinity? Prepare for an hour-long rant on complying with basic hygiene. Irritated her by chewing with your mouth open? Well, actually, she merely walks away for that one.

For all of her unreasonable outbursts, Shinju asserts her stance that a majority of people employed at the bar are far more perverse than her. A staunch believer in the philosophy that the day you knowingly take a life is the day you part with your sanity, she detests the term vigilante and finds certain members of the Red Moon Bar delusional. After all, there’s a big difference between believing that scum should die and being the one to pull the trigger.

Despite the very clear acknowledgement that her motivations are driven by rage and vengeance, and nothing pretty like justice, Shinju does not revel in killing. No matter how many lives she takes, her anger toward the corrupt underbelly of the country will never peter out, but she merely sees their deaths as a necessary culling. It’s a means to an end. Nothing more, nothing less.

For better or for worse, her only good point might be her tendency to laugh at extremely unfunny jokes in earnest.
    modus operandi.

They say eyes are the windows to the soul, but Shinju has spent years honing the craft of hiding her truest self even prior to stepping a single foot upon the path of a hitman. While on the job, all of her hatred is bundled up into one pretty and neat little package, ever turbulent but stewing silently until the time calls for all that bitterness to be sharpened into a weapon. Unlike that biological uncle of hers whom she’s only met once, she’s nothing but patient (sometimes).

She’d love nothing more than to drive a knife into their skulls thousands of times, but she neither wishes to stain her hands with their filthy blood nor earn the ire of whoever’s in charge of the clean up that day. Most of her methods involve some manner of poison doing the heavy lifting, whether it be delivered via a subtle prick of a needle or loaded into her favorite fountain pen.

Nevertheless, she can throw a mean punch when necessary.

Takara is a pretty boy. He's taller than average and well built, but what matters most and what catches the eye first is that pretty face of his. Framed by silky, carefully styled hair it is without a doubt his pride and joy. Clear skin, bright eyes, and two delicately placed beauty marks help make him an eye catching figure. Usually it is all brought together by a charming grin.

    personality.

    charming | relaxed | versatile | deceptive | proud | detached | arrogant | fickle | opportunistic

Considering his line of work, one might expect Takara to be less relaxed about life. Yet, he seems to walk through life as though it were a breeze, nothing bothering him. Not even when it probably should. He doesn't mind when he fucks up at work or gets scolded, doesn't bat an eye when he has to use his body for work nor when he has to kill a man. It all feels almost too detached. As though Takara is not truly processing what he is doing. Or if he even has the notion that what he's doing should bother him.

Charming, personable and able to carry a conversation with ease, he finds himself able to make friends wherever he goes. Especially with the fact that he usually can let most things roll off his back that bothers him. It makes him the ideal person to send to talk to someone and get information out of them, or be invited back somewhere private. He can fake it until he makes it, convincing anyone and everyone of what he wants them to believe. All prefaced on the fact that he knows that he can make people like him, who wouldn't like him?

Takara despite longing for the best in life, and thinking he deserves it, is loyal to the bar and the people he works with. Even if he may be prone to antagonizing them from time to time. After all, a few of these people are the only ones who will ever truly understand him and who he will ever truly understand in return.
