Futuristic Apocalyptic Survivors (Accepting and Stuff)

So this is a pretty cool post apocalyptic idea of mine if I do say so myself! The twist of it is you don't play as surviving humans, 'cause they're all dead. You play as the experiments of a brilliant scientists who dies. The experiments emerge from his laboratory/basement to begun civilisation anew, unknowing that the only other living thing to come out of the apocalypse was a parasite with a conscience which can inhabit anything and has a ravenous hunger for flesh.

Yup, that was the idea.

Do they have powers or.. the scientists creations basically humans?

They were originally meant to just have the same abilities as normal people, and the RP would be their struggle to survive and make things they would need to live out of the remnants of the human society which had now crumbled and fallen. I would be open to powers if they were used in a way which would be interesting and would work with the setting, however.
