It's highly advised that you read every part of the background for important information and timeline information.
I know it seems like a lot of info, but I really think you should read it all. It will help in the future.

The Apocalypse...
We've all thought about it once in our lives. How would the world end? Endless natural disasters? A worldwide plague? An asteroid hitting the earth and wiping out all life? Or will we eventually just... Disappear?
Perhaps a mix of all of them. Except the asteroid.
It all started on June 18th, 1998. Two scientists by the names of Joseph and Mariah Shepherd, husband and wife, would be the cause of the largest death count of any event in history, though they didn't know it. Leaders of one of the many groups working to find a cure for cancer. Their experiments were rather... Disapproved of. They experimented mainly on rats and dead bodies, as they were banned from doing human trials, due to their rash ambition. They didn't want to help the world, they just wanted the fame.
Needless to say, their experiments failed. When Mariah died in 2001, Joseph Shepherd abandoned his experiments in his grief. He was driven mad by his loss, and was intent on bringing her back, the only reason he returned to science.
It took nearly twenty years of work to succeed. In 2019, on February 12th, Joseph found the solution. He commenced with illegal human trials, under the pretense of drug testing. He gathered a group of two hundred men and women, and introduced them all to what he called, Sample X39, via inhalation. At first, there was no change in the testers, for about six hours. At that point, the first man started getting a fever, and coughing. The symptoms didn't always go at the same rate, but always in the same order. Fever, heavy coughing, hallucinations, pale skin tone, the eyes take on a reddish tint, they begin to cough up blood, cry blood, and then they died. A painful process. For some people, it took a matter of minutes for the first symptom to show. For others, they could take a week before the sample to kill them.
But it always killed them.
Perhaps that's a quick judgment. Less than one tenth of a percent of the human population were immune to the airborne virus, but not the blood borne. Blood borne, you may ask? Yes. Blood borne.
You see, the people who died in the tragic experiments weren't finished, no, far from it. Within seconds of their hearts stopping, their eyes reopened, with that same reddish color. Their bodies were almost gray, their faces no longer quite... Human. Their brains no longer functioned in the same way, it would later be discovered. They didn't have full capacity of brain functions, just the most basic - they could move. Their hearts no longer beat, they no longer felt anything except an endless hunger. Hunger for what? I'm sure you can guess. After all, we've all read stories of zombies and the undead. What else could these creatures be, after all? They hungered for flesh, human flesh mainly, but they wouldn't shy from animals. Everyone who isn't immune to the airborne virus is dead, end of story. The immunity of other people to the blood borne varies. Generally, healthy young adults can be bitten once or twice without dying, but most other age groups can only survive one bite. You can also be turned by getting zombie blood in your system.
Classifications:
It was seemingly random. Not every person died in the same way, or more accurately, they didn't come back in the same way. Some had slightly more or less brain function than others. Those with more could almost think, could react. These were deadlier. It had nothing to do with the person's IQ, their intelligence. Some zombies were stronger, with no relation to the human's muscle mass. It was like a dice was rolled. One thing could be certain: They could be killed by destroying the last partially-human part of themselves. Their brain. Whether it be a bullet, blade, or simply blunt force, their brains had to be sufficiently destroyed to finally kill the creature. Wounds to any other parts of themselves would be ignored.

MUST READ THE RULES
1. No overpowered character. In most cases, it will not be easy to kill a zombie. No coming in with a pocketknife and wiping out an entire legion of them.
2. Only I have the right to time skip or control outside factors, such as weather or where hordes of zombies are. You may introduce a couple zombies, no more than three at any given time.
3. This will be realistic, to a point. It will depend on a group dynamic. You can make your character unlikable, selfish, and rude, but don't expect them to stay part of the group for long, no matter how skilled they are.
4. Speaking of skills, don't be the person who makes characters for every single situation. It's not realistic or fair to have a character who can shoot any gun, solve any problem, heal any wound, run faster, be stronger, and overall be perfect. If I feel your character is overpowered, I will inform you. Please don't argue, because I don't say it unless I truly think it's unfair. If you refuse to compromise, your character will be killed off.
5. Deaths and injuries will occur. I will not hurt your character without informing you and getting permission first. If I don't get a reply within three days of asking, I will assume permission. This goes for everyone. It's allowed for you to hurt or kill other characters, but get permission in OOC, not PM, unless I'm invited as well. This ranges from a paper cut to a bullet to the head. Just don't do it.
6. If you've read the rules, put your character's favorite color in their character sheet.
7. Be polite in OOC. No petty arguments, no insulting, no name calling. We may not all act like adults, but I sincerely hope we can all act like them.
8. Try to post at least once a day, with at least one good sized paragraph. Even in dialogue, you can manage one paragraph easily. I'm not going to give a sentence limit, because we should all be capable of deciding what a paragraph is. If I tell you your reply is too short, don't argue. I'm just trying to make it so everyone has something to reply to.
9. No godmodding without permission whatsoever. In any situation. No matter how minor.
10. If your character and someone else's are having a long, drawn-out conversation that takes several posts, try to compact it, preferably by discussing in PM(that I'm invited to for assurance) what each character would do so you can combine it into one or two posts. On this topic, do not have a huge one to one in the IC. Do not spam it. Limit it to two or three posts on each side in a row before you wait a while. Also, if you have multiple characters, put all of their POV's in one post, and separate them with a header of their name, in obvious lettering.
11. If you're a slow responder, do not complain if you get left behind. I will ignore you.
12. I'm sure there's more, but I'll leave it at this for the moment. I know this seems like a lot, but I want this to be enjoyable for everyone.

MUST READ CHARACTER INFO
1. Characters must be at least 18 years of age unless they are part of the child group.
2. Be realistic, don't be overpowered.
3. Weapons and supplies will be scarce, so don't give them six machine guns, four sniper rifles, unlimited ammo, and... Grenades? Yea, they seem overpowered. No grenades or explosives.
4. Realistic face claims only. No anime, no illustrated, no descriptions, unless you ask me first and give a really good reason.
5. If you want a certain role, reserve it. Just because it's reserved doesn't mean you don't have a chance. If you reserve a role, you must post your CS within two days of me posting the thread, and it's not first come, first serve. I will not pick reserved roles until shortly before I start the roleplay. For this reason, if you send in a reserved character, it's highly advised that you make another character.
6. I don't care if your character is gay or straight or bi or whatever, but please keep it simple. Don't give some huge word that I'll have to look up, or I'll deny it. All forms of LGBTQ+ are allowed, just don't make it more complicated than it has to be.
Genders for all of these are optional, doesn't matter, except for pregnant women, which have to be able to get pregnant. So, likely, women.
Roles:
Co-Leader 1: Taken by me
Co-Leader 2: Open, must be reserved
Co-Leader 3: Open, must be reserved
Doctor 1: Open, must be reserved, must have medical experience.
Doctor 2: Open, must be reserved, must have medical experience.
