emmanuel hails from port-au-prince, haiti. born into a lower class family it seemed like he was set up to fail from the very beginning yet it only made him hunger for a better life for himself and his loved ones. a life where he didn't need to worry about where their next meal would come from or how the rent would be paid. His mother, lovelie, worked herself to exhaustion in order to provide for them, missing meals so that her son would not go to bed hungry. she only had the help of her own parents and a sister that moved away the first chance she got.

like any young person emmanual often took what he had for granted. instead of studying as he should he would go off to play with his friends, ignoring how his mother repeatedly told him the importance of education. emmanuel was an angry child, an envious boy who hated the fact that they were poor. that his mother had to work herself half to death, only to barely scrape by. emmanual’s only solace was in the books he read, he would immerse himself into the worlds and dream that he was the main character who solved all the mysteries and slayed all the monsters or in the art that he would draw in school, doodling away when he did attend.

but no matter how much he tried to shut out the world around him, he was still reminded of his reality. and so he began to steal, to fight for money and fall into the wrong crowd at a young age in hopes of bettering their situation. he knew that his choices broke his family’s heart yet how could they not see that he was doing it all for them? he continued to spiral down that path while his family prayed to their ancestors to watch over him, to make him see the error of his ways before it was too late.

emmanual remembered the day his life had flashed before his eyes. his home, no, his entire world had shook as if some petro lwa had come to punish him for what he had done. and as everything collapsed and he was stuck within the rubble for what felt like years, emmanual could have sworn that his grann had been there with him, speaking to him that oh so stern tone of hers, letting him know that if he didn’t change now he would never change things for his family. emmanual could remember clawing as something bloomed inside of him. and when he reached the other side, reuniting with his mother, he felt reborn.

to his devastation his grann had not survived, crushed beneath the rubble of her home with her husband. And when his aunt learned of this, she had taken them in to live with her. just as her nephew, she wished to become something in order to help her family. and so she worked and fought to attend medical school and become a successful cardiologist before working her way to the top and becoming a ceo. her wealth only increased after the death of her husband, a old money hotel mogul. from then on emmanuel’s life was changed. he had a hard time adapting to his new life. he quickly learnt that living as a member of the “elite” was something that came with rules in a sense. emmanuel learned of how members acted with each other and he adapted. the fake smiles and ruthlessness came easy to him in time. emmanuel was given a proper education, paid for him by his aunt. with these new doors opened the young man thrived in an educational setting. he was able to blend into high society and reap the benefits ever since.

Tadashi never cared for what people thought of him, the things that they felt; only cared about his own selfish thoughts, took care of his ego, buries himself in people that wouldn’t go against his word. That is the type of man he is, someone who dislikes the challenge—but he finds himself allured by them, somewhat. Resentment; it is never easy to hate, but Tadashi seems to do it without a second thought. Spiteful, callous, a man, who to some degree, has failed not only himself, but the people around him. But nevermind that, it doesn’t matter—what matters is his own self-sufficience, getting ahead of the curve, and destroying. Perhaps this is why he’s so cut out for the business world, a beast looking for its next prey to sink his teeth into.

The strategy works well in hand with his intelligence, though it isn’t always presented in the way that he speaks—words are often tangled with expletives, a thing that he cannot help unless he’s in a professional setting, seeking out a deal that he just can’t refuse. He uses it to his advantage, the intelligence—uses it to cater to those he is around; a chameleon of some sort, molding into the person he believes one wants him to be.

There are many things to call Tadashi: selfish, unhinged, downright evil, but there are some redeeming qualities. Despite it all, he is loyal, as much as he wants to be, and as much as he needs to be. He loves, hard, fights to the end of the earth for who he loves and who he wants. The hardest thing to believe is that Tadashi was a good child, not the devil that he is now; he never cried or pouted, but why would he? Showered in material possessions, given what he wants at all times, Tadashi never got the opportunity to. His mother and father tried to do him right, ultimately failing the moment they realized that maybe they've spoiled him a bit too much. When he was 5, he was given his own personal garage of toy cars - ones that he could fit in and drive around; that same day he ran over another child and laughed about it, his parents didn't get mad - only yelled at the child who got hit. That small moment is telling of what his childhood was, up until he turned 12, when the responsibility was looking in his direction. Though, yes, he knew it was bound to happen, looked forward to the thought of being head of the company, grinned wildly as he daydreamed about yelling at other people the way he saw his father did, Tadashi was in for something more.

It went downhill when his behaviors weren't tolerated anymore: the ones excused as a child were now the ones he'd constantly be hounded on, but how would he have learned? The real world was shrouded by the world his parents built for him. They'd sent him from his place in Tokyo to his grandmother's house in Asakusa, she sent him back, and then he was stuck in Ebisu by the time he was 17. The lack of stability did a number on him, a surprise to his parents, but not by the ones who watched this happen - over and over.

Rebellion started then, perhaps even before, but it had only gotten worse as his parents proposed a marriage to someone he never met until he was 19 - not his type, would get in the way of what he wants to do, and a thorn in his side. He blamed her for a lot of things, blamed his parents, too. The company brought in millions, but he couldn't get his hands on it until he proved himself worthy to; the foundation of this is built upon the ideals of his father, ones that his father never taught him, and ones that Tadashi had to learn on his own through careful observation. If anything, he lied his way around, worked hard to gain the positions even if they were just going to be handed to him, rubbed a diploma in his parents' face as a way to say that he never needed them -- even if he really did.

They took this as him stepping up to the plate, even at the cost of the mental stability of others.

He took his seat in the company and ran with it, used up the day to think up solutions, the rest of the days were filled with parties that he'd nose around in -- social climbing in some people's eyes, but to him, he was just making connections. This is where he meets a woman whose fingers were dipped in crime, someone that he thought he loved - but the love was never genuine. It wouldn't have worked anyways, not with the fact that the both of their mouths ran at the speed of light. They broke up over something, it was all a fuzz, Tadashi never cared much to think it over, self-reflect and consider that it could've been his fault; no, he just moved onto the next. And the next.

But it gets exhausting.

Loneliness likes to prey on people that choose to be ignorant to their own actions, so it was likely that it would dig its claws into his flesh - hell, it nearly ripped him apart. Regret sets in, self-isolation, but there is still the refusal of self-reflection.

  doors. they are such an efficient barrier, are they not? ready to shield or hide those things pretty and unpretty. xiaoran knows plenty of doors, has looked at one, standing tall and dark, for as long as she could remember. that door always played tricks with her, taunting the mind of a child with a waiting game without certain results. sometimes, the door would grant her wish and open, leading her to a man stationed behind a mahogany desk, voice gruff but inviting. ‘come here, xiaoran’ he would say, and she’d run to him. run like a daughter would to her father. most of the time, though, the door would stay closed, even if she’d dare to yell back at it. xiaoran learned early enough that doors don’t listen, and neither does her father.
  
  when you are young, they assume you know nothing about what happens behind those closed doors— but xiaoran knows, knows despite her mother trying to shield her from it. it isn’t a secret well-kept, and in hindsight, was never meant to be one either,, but xiaoran hates him for it nonetheless. hates her father for giving out love and attention to women that aren’t her mother and children that aren’t her. the door she hates too, for betraying her with its silence and obedience to a man that doesn't love her mother or her.
  
  and she continues to hate doors for a little while more, for it leads her to a death she didn’t want to see. lifeless, her mother lays in bed, eyes vacant of soul and hand limp near a glass of wine. once again, the door has no words to tell, but this time, it does show; slightly ajar, a sign is given, and a revelation follows. history has it that her mother died, too young, killed by jealousy. what a shame, what a tragedy — if only the door was locked.

  xiaoran seeks revenge, maybe because grief feels better when turned into anger, or maybe because she really is her father’s daughter. it doesn’t take much to figure out who the killer is, the mistress being vain enough to openly relish in her deed and speak about it to her social peers. xiaoran thinks about killing her, but decides against it in the end. not because she is a good person, no – she is cruel, and so her target shifts,, right to a precious son. because if she has to experience loss, you do too.
  
  now, aren’t doors just perfectly silent when you are committing a crime?

  of course, she is still caught days later. but, this time, the tall, dark door is open before she arrives with two security guards by her sides. they escort her right through the door opening, right into the office where he stands, arms crossed and gaze unreadable. it’s the day when xiaoran comes to realize that, maybe, her father really did love her mother. for he ignores the angry wails of that woman demanding hefty punishment, despite how long she continues to do so. and maybe, he really does love her too, because there is no anger in his voice when he says her name, only resignation.
  
  she leaves the room with no punishment, only a statement to come back tomorrow. and the door opens then too, without any waiting game. little does she know, though, that with its instant opening, an underworld does as well. way more so than before.
  
  the more years go by, the more doors open before her. it’s a powerful thing, xiaoran finds out, and she now knows why father keeps most of them closed. some doors, however, she has slowly realized have always been open too, bringing her right to a home she treasures more than anything. the hole of a mother million miles away is filled by someone else, and a half-sister becomes a sister she’d kill her own blood for to protect. there is a familial love burning as bright and unfaltering as sisterhood, and it carries xiaoran through everything. xiaoran might be the one who brings the most worth, but to her, xiaoyu is the most worthy– worthy of everything.
  
  there is a newfound drive too; a determination running deep and strong. and in the mess that is the zhu family, xiaoran becomes perfect. perfect because that’s what her father expects and what is needed to stay on top. perfect because, above all else, she wishes to secure a future diamond but different for xiaoyu and zipheng. because they deserve everything. they deserve better.

  zhu xiaoyu: a half-sister she loves dearly and doesn't consider as less than her other half. having grown up close together, xiaoran knows her sister through and through; they share everything and always look out for each other. xiaoyu might very well be her greatest weakness, for she will do anything to protect her and can never quite say no to that face, despite knowing better.

the prospect of finding a fitting candidate for marriage, although he, himself, never considered it to be something that'd fulfill him. his royal status pressures him into such planned out future, and thus, he's merely following what's expected of him as his nation's crown prince. he'd consider the arranged union to be a contract rather than a genuine partnership, and quite honestly, the promise of scandalous deviancy happens to be the main reason for his stay to begin with.

BACKGROUND
amadeo was born into spanish royalty, being the youngest child of the current crown. he used to possess a small amount of freedom and privacy way back in his early childhood due to him being the third heir in line. overall, he didn't have to worry all too much about his general public image, and thus being able to pursue a large portion of his fields of interest without the fear of national disgrace. despite such granted privilege, amadeo spent most of his childhood in solitude, not being able to enjoy life as other children around his age were naturally allowed to. such wishes were quickly extinguished by the people around him. royal formalities, etiquettes and insincerity happened to be of the utmost importance, and therefore, resist as an innocent child might, he eventually grew accustomed to such behavior. growing up rather estranged from his immediate family, although he loved his own brother dearly, enjoying each short time in his sibling's presence, his perception of relationships began to change into something distorted over the years.

the reason for his parental estrangement was his grandmother's iron clutch on him. being the queen mother, she held a considerable amount of power in royal status, and, having always been a severely strict member of the family, she made it her mission to raise amadeo in her spitting image. in spite of the reigning queen's pleas to spend time with her youngest son, the little prince was often kept away from his mother's presence for weeks on end. deeming any visits and expressions of affection to not have good effects on amadeo, the queen mother refused to give into her daughter in law's wishes, fearing that such things would only turn him weak and effeminate in the long run. instead, she forced him to focus entirely on his education and duties to shape him into the man he needed to become.

the internationally mourned death of his older brother, caused by a lethal airplane crash during overseas travels, ended up with his ascension to being the crown's heir. his older sister, despite being the middle child and rightful heir to the throne, was put aside due to gender discrimination, and thus, not further acknowledged. such happenings resulted in her downfall, caught up in countless scandals and public offences. she was ultimately put in a mental institution to get her back on track, not allowing her any further spotlight to avoid additional disgrace to the royal house. up to this day, amadeo still pays his occasional visits to the institution in spite of her hatred towards him, considering him a fraud and cheater of the game, not quite mentally stable due to her not being able to accept the truth; amadeo never wanted to ascend to the throne at all. in fact, his ascension only worsened his childhood. the mother queen's grasp on him threatened to crush him beneath strict severity and expectations.

a mother's embrace and a father's acknowledgement, no such things ever took place behind shut doors, be it not for the eyes of the media, the cheering masses, and essentially, everyone but amadeo, and amadeo alone. not being able to differentiate between genuine intentions and pretense, he eventually acquired the skill of a puppeteer, pulling the required strings to receive the attention so desperately needed. learning how to fake his smiles in order to get what he wanted from those around him, deemed an angel and being treated as such, he began to take a liking to such ingenuine approach to make up for his lack of granted intimacy throughout the years. relatives, friends, flings, and acquaintances; no one was spared by his mind games.

becoming the heir at the young age of ten, he turned into the world's spectacle, deemed important and exotic, surveillanced and critiqued by the public eye. the attention of all had been shifted upon him, and he was determined to shine for the sake of expected duties, upkeeping the status quo by his own efforts. frequent charity events and compassionate words of support soon formed the wide public's opinion regarding the young crown prince, deeming him the nation's pride and treasure. in short, the masses adored him, the media adored him, and even the international news spoke only in high regards of spain's royal prince. said positive reputation hasn't changed up until this day.

  Vero remembers the cold chill of the ocean breeze, standing on the green cliffs of the beaches of Miraflores. She remembers the earthy spice of her home country's food, savory and divine, flavors that would smooth out the worry lines of her mother's brow and blossom warmth and smiles. Memories and moments shared, before the weight of expectations held her tight.
  
  Second born of the Guerra-Huaman family, Vero was born during a time period of great change. Truly, Josefina's second pregnancy was not planned but was welcomed all the same, with excitement and love and new adventure. She was worried it would interfere with their newfound business, but Mauricio was over the moon. Only recently had they founded Labific Pharmaceuticals, working in tandem with Vero's grandparents to fund and build their business.
  
  Much of her early childhood was calm, loving and humble. Her older brother Alejandro was softer back then. Her parents hadn't gotten their hands so dirty. While Vero had been born in Miraflores, near her mother's hometown, they had moved back near Jalisco, Mexico, to be near their father's family once she turned five. At six years old, her parents divorced for reasons they did not understand, for her parents still cared for each other deeply. It was a minor bump in the road compared to the problems that were to come. Alejandro slowly began to pull away, but she paid no mind. It was evident from the start that Vero was an extremely bright child. She began speaking at a much younger age, and was writing by three years old. She soared quickly through elementary school, and was placed into private schools for secondary. She was always a keen child, always observant. She knew there was something afoot when her father would get home from working late hours, reeking of chemicals and hands burnt to the point of little feeling.
  
  Everybody knew that Vero was a daddy's girl, through and through. When she wasn't in school, she'd accompany her father to work and examine the way their laboratories would carefully pack pills and create the different medicines they sold. They'd make games out of memorizing the periodic table of elements, he'd quiz her on the basics of science, and the moments Vero made her father smile with pride were her favorite memories.
  
  One quiet morning, Vero had been left in the office of a local cleaning company that her mother owned. The smell of soap and cleaning products lingered in the air, the manufactured smell of sanitized cleanliness still so clear in her mind. Her father told her to stay put as he needed to handle a small issue. In her childhood mind, she wanted to ask him for ice cream after. And so Vero followed the path she had watched her father take to venture downstairs into the basement. The girl distinctly remembers the feeling of eyes on her, the workers watching her with horror and worry, but none too brave to tell the boss' daughter what not to do.
  
  Opening a heavy iron door, Vero descended into the basement and found her father standing over a dead body. The ceilings of the room were high, ventilation hoods whirring with effort, and there was that same sickly chemical smell that lingered on her father's clothes.
  
  "Mira, Vero. Esto es lo que pasa cuando no sigues las reglas." Her father took a long breath, and dropped the gun. She still remembers the vivid detail of blood spatter on his face.   What Vero learned from a very young age was that her family's company was a type of front. From her mother's explanations, apparently pharmaceuticals was always their goal, first and foremost. But with their expertise and having the right connections in Central America, her father realized where the real money was.
  
  Running a major pharmaceutical company was the perfect front for their blooming drug business.
  
  In the beginning, it was Josefina who handled the business negotiations and the money laundering. Her father was the cook, a man who could make extremely pure meth and other high grade high demand products. His product was what launched them to an international scale within a decade. Before long, her parents didn't even need to handle things. With the ridiculous amounts of money there were raking in, being able to clean their money through their company's business earnings, soon it became easier to hire laboratories of workers to meet the demand for their products.
  
  By the time she graduated high school, at fourteen years old, Veronica learned how to make lab-grade methamphetamine. By seventeen years old, she was churning out product at 98.3% purity, record breaking levels. That was one of the many tests her father put her through, preparing her for the family business. With their level of success, it was unlikely they'd ever have Vero herself needing to cook product - they had plenty of people working for them who made perfectly acceptable crystal. In her father's eyes, however, she needed to know everything there was to know.
  
  Her father died the day after her 21st birthday, and Vero has been trying to fill his shoes ever since.
  
  Mauricio's death, an unfortunate stroke while he was alone in his office, was met with much more media attention than her family had ever received before. He was a major name in Central and South America, after all, and their company was renowned for providing affordable options for medicine in impoverished countries. They eventually expanded to America in the last few years and made quite the name for themselves as well. Much of their competition was left wondering if they were finally defeated.
  
  A decision that left Vero a bit bitter was the fact that, after all of their time spent together, her father left Alejandro a sizable amount of inheritance, and guaranteed his place as the new co-owner of Labific Pharmaceuticals. Much of her life had been spent studying, preparing, learning what her father needed her to know. Her brother, on the other hand, was more of a momma's boy, and for reasons Vero never understood it seemed he wasn't nearly as involved as she was. By adulthood, she decided that he was weak. A coward. With such opportunities presented to him, Alejandro denied his inheritance and left it all to Vero, who was happy to oblige. He walked away from their family and never returned.
  
  Who cares? Vero thought, I don't need him.
  
  After the funeral and the will reading, Vero hashed out the details with her mother. After she earned her Masters degree, she would take her place as co-owner of Labific and truly begin work in earnest. In the meantime, it seems she still has a few years to go.   born as a premie, zhu zhipeng went through the ringer. he spent months in the hospital, hooked up to all sorts of tubes, and there were many times the nurses and doctors thought he wasn’t going to make it through the night. but he did. miraculously, he pulled through. “he’s like a phoenix, rising from the ashes with a new zest for life” commented one of the nurses. and that nickname stuck. phoenix was here to stay.
  
  the chaos started at a young age. with a mostly absent mother, young zhipeng was left alone, pretty much brought up by his elderly neighbor. how he managed to survive, no one actually knew, but he managed to stay alive somehow. barely. a few years later, he was thrown in the back of a car his mother stole and heard her tell him he was being sent to live with his father. and zhipeng had no idea who his father was, but anything could be better than his mother.
  
  scratch that. this guy wasn’t much better. the second zhu jinfeng laid eyes on his son, he disliked him. maybe it was the fact that phoenix looked just like him, or maybe it was the fact that he was the result of a drunken one night stand. either way, jinfeng did not like nix and the boy felt it. regardless, nix still tried to please his father and win his affection. but it was to know avail. no matter what he did, he knew jinfeng would never love him.
  
  though, just because he was disliked and unloved didn’t mean he wasn’t going to be part of the family business. oh no. he learned all about the “hotels” they owned, the drugs that were trafficked, arms that were sold and the government and military officials that bought their spyware and technology. did he like it? no. did he enjoy all the money it brought in? yes. the older nix became, the more he enjoyed the money. his sister xiaoran inheriting the business meant he and xiaoyu could do whatever they wanted. and do whatever they wanted, they did. nothing was safe. laundromats, bars, car dealerships. nothing. they rained terror down upon the city, destroying pretty much everything there.
  
  the first time phoenix was called into his father’s office, it was for breaking into the laundromat to see if they could fit in one of the industrial dryers. “finally remembered you had a son, did you?” and the slap he received for it was the worst he’s ever gotten. he barely heard anything about how he was being a disgrace to the family name, too busy reeling over what the hell just happened. from that point on, however, he was going to “disgrace” the family name even more.
  
  after snowboarding competitions, he made sure his “babysitters” (people his father sent to supervise him) saw him leave the local bars and clubs with different people. and if he woke up the next morning on some strangers floor with a slew of angry texts messages from papa zhu, well, it was worth it. then he dipped his toes into street racing, winning just as much as he lost and threatening to be cut off if he crashed any more cars. he has yet to be cut off.

  Even before she was born; Lien’s family was known to always take part in the politics of Vietnam. It wasn’t unknown to see one of her relatives being part of the communist party. It was almost like a family tradition to partake in these activities. And Lien’s father wasn’t a stranger to that; someone that had the ambition to rule the country no matter what he had to do in order to get to the place he wanted.
  
  Phan Ca Chien was a man that really didn’t care about feelings and focused more on the results and what could be beneficial to him; that was the reason he married Trần Ai Bian, a socialite whose family was well known around to be well acquainted in the communist's circle party; and it was the perfect way to make his way through that world to eventually fulfilling his goal of becoming the president of Vietnam.
  
  He had everything perfectly planned except for the surprise that when the pair decided on having children, Ai Bian suffer miscarriage after miscarriage. This was terrible, according to Ca Chien’s plans, but after several tries, Ai Bian conceived a child. One that the doctors reassure her would be too risky for Ai Bian, but she didn’t desist from fulfilling the pregnancy. Maybe she hoped to be a mother that much that she didn’t mind the consequences.
  
  Unfortunately, Ai Bian passed away while giving birth because of bleeding and the only reminiscent of her was a healthy baby girl, but not everyone thought that way as Ca Chien saw his world crumble. How his heir was going to be a girl? It was a disaster and a shame for him. But the damage was already done and had to deal with raising a girl rather than the boy he expected would follow his steps.
  
  While growing up, Lien Xuan was raised by nannies as her father became too busy with his work and, in reality, he didn’t want to be part of his daughter’s life. As a child, she started developing an affinity for the arts, and sooner it became one of her passions, especially dancing. She thought if excelled at something, then her father would pay attention to her; but she was wrong despite all her efforts to be the perfect daughter. That was an example of society’s standards. Lien Xuan never received the love of a father that she always longed.
  
  As the years passed, Lien Xuan became a vessel full of everyone’s desires and expectations and what society demanded her to be and that’s what she finally realized that maybe she never knew who she really was.

Personality: Léonie's initial mask is standoffish, taking more of the position of an observer and even interrogator. She cannot just let anyone into her close circle, even if her dearest desires are to be loved by all those she meets. Leo has been raised to take over Portugals next reigning underground artifact dealer leader and with that comes a lot of discipline and seriousness as lives are on the line constantly. This was not a position she wanted to take on but was born into and had little to no choice. This made Leo quite a pessimist and in order to hide her true self, taunts others and is quick to lash out if she feels that she is becoming too vulnerable.
At the core, Léonie craves others attention and wishes she could be praised and cared for instead of being the kind of gal that needs to stomp on others to make herself superior. She certainly has attachment and abandonment issues that create a disillusioned perspective that she can never be loved or cherished by friends or loved ones. Leo is a very considerate person and pays attention to the little details. She is empathetic and can often easily feel others emotions which can be overwhelming in a large setting.

Backstory

Family: Léonie is the only child in her family. She is the daughter to Don Luis Phillipe Batista, the head of their underground Art and Artifact smuggling organization. her mother is Mélina Silves Batista however, she went missing when Leo was 10 years old. Since then, her father has had many mistresses who Leo was not a fan of. The closest thing she had to a loving guardian was actually her Rugby Coach Antonio Figuerido who also became Leos personal advisor.

Residence: Léonie usually doesn't stay in one location for too long. She travels around the world frequently but you can find her in her mansions in the Algarve, Lisbon, and Porto.

History: Léonie was both blessed and cursed to be the only child of Luis Phillipe Batista. He was infamous for his successful underground smuggling of ancient artifacts and artwork. His organization has grown tenfold over his own lifetime as he recruited muscle, brains, and blackmailed many officials all over the world. One of the key factors in the success in his crime organization was his wife, Donna Mélina. She was considered to be one of Portugals most beautiful woman and Luis saw this as the perfect way to manipulate "clients". Mélina was used as honeypot as people would desire her for their own. She was able to take billions of dollars worth of artifacts from the worlds most richest people and politicians while also providing all kinds of leverage over "clients" for Luis to use.
Luis wanted a child simply to become the underboss of his syndicate and he did expect a male to take over his role. However, he and his wife had a very difficult time conceiving a child which lead to fractures in the crime lords marriage. After a few years, Mélina was finally able to give birth but to a small and fragile daughter which provoked rage from Don Batista. Léonie was loved dearly by her mother and was almost an identical copy to her features. Her parents had two very different methods in raising little Leo. Luis took the approach of an iron fist and no mercy tactic while Mélina showed nothing but love and adoration to her only child.
At the age of 10, Luis Batista had enough of his wife sheltering and softening his only heir to his underground throne and took it upon himself to take care of the situation. One day, Leo woke up to find the existence of her mother completely erased from their lives. No more portraits of her adorning the large hallways, family pictures all replaced with abstract art, all her belongings gone as if they were never there in the first place. The only visible reminders of her mother at the time was the white skin in the shape of a ring on her fathers finger and a picture Leo had of her and her mother.
The age of 10 is what Léonie would describe as the true origins of her development into an underboss. Without her mother as protection, not even her Rugby Coach turned into personal advisor could really comfort her. Leos father got rid of all dolls, toys, or items that Leo showed any attachment to and placed her in intense defense training so she could learn how to protect herself in worst case scenarios. He enrolled her into rigorous history, anthropology, and science classes to sharpen her skills so she would be able to determine artifacts importance and worth. Her father also used her to replace Leos mothers job, manipulating people for their possessions and to find dirt to use as leverage. This would place Leo in very abusive or uncomfortable situations that began to twist her perspective on love and affection.
When Leo was 18, she actually thought she was falling in love with a local chef from a restaurant she would frequent to escape her "work". The chef would treat her with the most exquisite meals and join her while she dined, asking questions and making Leo feel seen and appreciated. They would secretly go on trips together and create beautiful memories but after a year, her father grew suspicious and found them in Paris living their secret love affair. Luis' solution, get hitmen on the chef to remove any distractions from Leo's life and disciplined Leo by carving 4 large cuts onto her torso. He believed that not only would this pain be a reminder of her duties as an underboss, but also prevent her from ever getting too close to man because these scars would repulse them. This turned Leo into a bitter woman, shielding herself off from others and narrowly focusing on fulfilling her fathers legacy.

relaxed and personable, raye's charm is a subtle one that begins in a quiet clink of whiskey glasses & ends in laughter, life stories and a promise to meet again, some day. will that truly happen? no one can say... well, let's be real, probably not. but in the moment, at least, he is often genuine. from since his days as a bright, curious child, the light in his eyes when he sees something new and beautiful has never faded, even if it has gained some extra shades along the way.

a social chameleon, raye seems at ease hanging around any rung of society's ladder, from troubled youth in his family's rehab programs to all the VIPs that pass through the casino's private room. and he does, frequently, earning a variety of experiences in the process that has armed him with a wide array of knowledge — as well as an acute judgement of people.

perceptive enough to see through anyone's bullshit but polite enough, generally speaking, that he won't call you out on it, raye throws up pretenses with the best of them, though he much prefers not to. in fact, the first time his scathing, blunt thoughts manifest themselves into spoken word for you to hear is the day you can mark on your calendar as having been placed above — or a long way below — the general populace in his eyes.

practical but far from machiavellian, raye would, in an ideal world, limit the cunning he was raised with to the poker games and business negotiations, rather than have calculation meddle in the affairs of the heart. but the world isn't ideal, and neither is raye his own ideal person. for all his laidback, sentimental nature, nurture dictates that it be warped into something worse than.

ultimately, raye is simply a mercurial soul, as quick to extend his generosity, his understanding and his sentiments as he is to retract them, should the situation call for it. there are many sides more to him to explore, of course — the rare intensity in the midst of competition, the streaks of mischief when the mood is light and the company is good, the sudden bloom of romanticism whenever he falls in love — but aren't there to everyone?

when dealing with raye, all you need to remember is this: he has both hands open, always. one to give, and the other to take away.

other than the ever important task of networking, which has become abruptly more urgent for raye now that he's the sole heir of the company, it's honestly also the only escape from his daily life he could viably grab in this period. his family, of course, also expects him to bring back someone to marry — preferably one with as great a status and clean a reputation as possible.

a nice, normal family — that's all the tsais wanted to be. his father even said as much in a speech on his fiftieth birthday celebration, attended by some of the most recognizable faces in the region. that all he had wanted, his whole life, was to settle down as a happy couple with a nice home and some adorable children. and, of course, a few billion dollars of inheritance and all the money & power in macau, as normal families do. he is ever grateful, tsai ming-wai claimed, that his dream came true.

indeed, it had come true, when tsai kit-man, a whole thirteen years younger than his oldest sibling, arrived like a tiny, fragile miracle. he was so, so precious to his parents that they even took a seven month's break away from public view during the pregnancy and traveled all the way to a quaint little cottage in germany for the birth, so his first breath may be taken from the fresh air of a beautiful place. and if a nurse or two had to leave town after gossiping when they shouldn't, what's that got to do with a nice, normal family like them?

grandpa and grandma were never soft on his sister, robin, even though his parents treated her like she was an angel come to earth. but raye? oh, they adored raye. they would give him anything he asked for — yes, even all those cookies in that jar. he's a growing boy! — and tell him everything he wanted to know. when he was nestled between them, listening to stories, he felt safe. he felt he could do anything and know everything just like them. sometimes, he wishes he'd stayed so small.

at eleven, he told them he wanted to be a dentist, because they got to have a cool office. aw, honey, they laughed. of course, you can't. you're going to be part of the family business.

at fifteen, he made friends with some boys while volunteering, and learnt how sometimes it wasn't people who were bad, but their situations. it was interesting. they were interesting, and couldn't care less about about who he was. until one time, they waited outside the mansion to hang out, and the security guard threatened to have them arrested if they didn't leave the premises straight away.

he fought with his father that evening, and his sister pulled him aside and told him how much she understands. but for the sake of the family, can't you just bear it?, she sighed. can't he just have nice, normal friends?

at eighteen, he met a girl, who was brave, smart, and had eyes that curved whenever she smiled. her dad owned a small arcade. they managed to hide it from his family for a whole year, though he felt terrible that they had to in the first place. but when they were found out, it was clear staying a secret had been the better option. the arcade had been set on fire in an unfortunate, but random case of arson.

go to america, they said. they've already settled the issue of transferring his credits to a good university there and hired an experienced chaperone to take care of everything for him. he could come back when he finished his studies, so he should work hard and learn his lesson.

he demanded to know why. he didn't want to do it. for once. just once, let him not want to do things. he refused to go; they could either ship his cold, dead body over or forget about it.

listen to your mother, kit-man, his mom had exclaimed, as if she was the one being forced into a corner, why do you never listen to you mother?

mother? where? when have you ever been my mother? raye, young and stupid and angry, had spat.

and she slapped him across the face. her eyes shook; he saw tears in them for what felt like the first time.

it was his fault. he was wrong, he should've known. how dare he? how dare he let those filthy words come into this nice, normal family? this family that he still loved, even if they weren't really nice or normal or anything they claimed to be? he shouldn't have.

so he left the next week.

then he was back! and learn his lesson he did, because raye has decided that he, too, wants to be nice and normal, after all. his family and the business, they were amazingly toxic yet awfully precious. it's fine, he thought, call him mature. he would just have to live with having a few casinos under his name, maybe a couple resorts, if he could handle them. he could set up his own company to bring them under and, at least then, he wouldn't be so -

    Normalcy was never an option for Song Myeong. Born the only daughter of the infamous South Korean crime lord, Song Hyonu, she was practically royalty, but instead of golden castles, the Song empire was made of guns and blood money. While Song-san spent most of his time in South Korea, his wife stayed in Singapore with their two young children to keep them from their father's dirty deeds as long as possible.
    
    Even with her father mostly absent, Myeong grew up rather spoiled. When her father did come visit, he bought his two children whatever they desired to make up for his long absences. The Song family was well respected in Singapore, and Myeong had no trouble fitting in with the other aspiring socialites. The Song children lived a comfortable, lux life until Myeong turned fourteen and Jae-Hwa turned sixteen, when Hyonu moved his family from Singapore to South Korea, wanting Jae-Hwa to learn the family business.
    
    Young Myeong was uprooted from the only life she'd ever known, from the friends she'd made and the peace that their home in Singapore afforded. Their home in Seoul was just as luxurious, but the Song children were no longer sheltered from their father's business. Myeong witnessed first hand why they had been sheltered in another country, her father was a ruthless man and blood stained every golden crevice of the Song household.
    
    Even now that the family was finally all living under one roof, Hyonu spent all of his time with Jae-Hwa, dismissing the youngest Song to learn proper socialite etiquette from her mother. Myeong was rightfully pissed, she had forgiven her father for abandoning them in Singapore because his work was in South Korea, but now he was actively ignoring her for Jae-Hwa, simply because she was a girl.
    
    To gain her father's attention, Myeong started acting out. Instead of being the pretty and polite socialite she was meant to be, Myeong disregarded the social standards and acted more like a typical working class brat than a well-bred elite. The only attention it garnered from her father was a stern lecture, and then he was right back to doting on Jae-Hwa. It drove the younger girl mad, making her act out even more until she was expelled from the private school she and her brother attended.
    
    Now branded the problem child, Hyonu sent his daughter back to Singapore to attend school there. This drove a wedge between Myeong and her family, both physically and emotionally. Feeling abandoned by her own blood, Myeong drank her problems away and became well-known around the party scene of Singapore. She filled the void of her family with alcohol, shopping, and her university studies.
    
    One of Myeong's most destructive coping mechanisms, was her ever changing relationships. From boyfriends, girlfriends, and friends, the people around Myeong were constantly cycling. In a world here money and power ruled all, many people hung around the Song heiress thinking it would bring them opportunities with her father.   Aria grew up in a surprisingly loving home for such a well-off family. Raised in a penthouse in the heart of London, the girl was always doing or learning something new. Whether that be the piano or painting portraits, her parents wanted to be sure she knew all of the different forms of art to prepare her for taking over their fashion label when she grew up. Aria soon found that her favorites were sketching and singing, which is how she got the nickname ‘songbird’ as she would always be found singing around her house. The name was mainly used by her father, Conrad as he always asked her to perform in front of family, friends and even associates. Aria loved the attention from both her father and their guests, solidifying the fact that she was indeed a ‘Daddy’s Girl.’
  
  Not all things can stay good though, and Aria’s life would soon change for the worse. When she was eleven she had gone to a sleepover at a friend’s home, it being one of her first times staying somewhere other than the penthouse. While she was away, a thief crept into their home and robbed them of material things and murdered both her mother and father. The morning after her sleepover, one of their maids, Maria, came to pick Aria up and bring her home. When they arrived though, they were met with a bloody scene and a messy home, leading Aria to find her slaughtered parents in their bed.
  
  Even though things had been stolen from the scene, the thief was never found, which only made it worse in Aria’s eyes. She still had wealth though, and her father’s sister soon took over in raising the child until she became old enough to lead the company. Aria, though well taken care of by her aunt, fell into a depression and filled her mind with designs instead of music. If she were to take over the family business one day, she had to be ready. Besides, if her father wasn’t around to build up his little song bird, what point was there in singing?

She fired the heads of the company and placed her aunt in charge and they worked together to produce gowns, blouses and other luxurious clothing items for the wealthiest of people.
