Fantasy Apartment of the Unnatural RP Thread

Merle looked forward at the apartments, mentally trying to take note of everything he needed and everything he had. He checked for his key, his bag, and the slip of paper which gave his number. He moved down the hall trying not  to stare at anyone or anything for too long, knowing he would either come off as weird or creepy, when really Merle just felt foreign. The man wore a dark grey button upand black pants, all a little too big on him curtesy of hand me downs before leaving his home. Over top was a long thin greyish green robe of sorts worn like a jacket. His long pale red hair which he put up at the beginning of the day to look neat and clean had lost its band and was loose over his shoulders.

"Room 8?" He mumbled to himself, watching the doors for numbers and half paying attention to a group chatting in the hall. Most seemed friendly. A boy, and three girls probably? He wondered whether or not he felt like engaging in conversation. They seemed nice enough but interrupting is impolite.

Mariah went down the hall too focused on the door number to notice the man walking in her direction. She caught herself, barely stopping in time to avoid bumping into him, "Sorry sir." Wait she was probably older than him... oh well at least sir sounded respectful

Dexter had finally made it to the apartment complex and was in a rush as usual. Bursting through the doors he rushed forward, sprinting to make it to his apartment first. Turning a corner he sensed two people standing in the hall and had to cut his running short. "Ah shit!" Throwing himself to the side he ended up slamming his face into the wall beside the two people. "I'm fine..."

Merle saw the figure who almost ran into him and flinched back out of his thoughts, smiling sheepishly. The woman had a sweet face framed by short violet hair and matching eyes, and wore dress clothing better than he did.

"I'm really sorry about that, miss, I wasn't watching where I was-"

A wind whipped at his side and another person took part in the almost collision. Merle looked at the figure with concern and a half grin indicative of his surprise. Shooting the woman a glance of confusion, he dropped his bag and melt down half way towards the fallen bluish haired man, offering a hand to help him up.

"Geez. I think it might have been a softer fall if you let yourself hit us. Are you sure you're alright?"

"Whoah, are you sure?" That was a brutal a sudden crash.  There's no way he could be fine. Though it was comical how swifty and perfectly it happened, she fought back a smile, losing.

Dexter eventually sat up and looked up at them, the only scratch being a dent in the wall. "Yeah, I'm cool. It's gonna take more than a plaster wall to dent me." Standing up he threw his hands in his hair and ruffled it vigorously for a few moments, "I'm Dex, guessing you guys are some of the residents as well?"

Merle stepped back to give Dex some room, secretly looking good for signs that he might have actually busted his head open.

"I think you might have dented the wall if anything." He chuckled, habitually pulling his own hair out of his face a little. He thought he caught the woman smile too when Dex tumbled.

"I'm a resident as well it seems. I'm Merle Avindr. Call me Ava. Or Merle. Whatever."

"Mariah, and yeah, this is apparently my new place... well room 56 is." She couldn't help it, her usual grin spread itself across her face. Her composure became more estatic. She held her hand out for him to shake, tilting her head to the side causing her hair to bounce slightly, grinning even more.

Dex chuckled, "Good to meet you Merle and Mariah." Looking off to the side he took a large sniff and exhaled, "I smell vampire... humans... fae... and sylph..." Taking a few more sniffs he pointed to Merle first, "You're the sylph," then Mariah, "You're the fae, and the humans and vampire are that way somewhat." He pointed down the hall. "If my nose is right, which it usually is." He realized that might sound strange, "Oh yeah, I'm a werewolf."

Merles red eyes flashed bright with glee and curiosity when he listened to Dex name off who everyone was. He looked to Mariah, an apparent Fae. He felt a little childish in this sense but he had never met species outside of his own and a small collection of humans.

"You're right. I would never have noticed. In this city would it be normal to come across werewolves or faes? Or is that rude of me to ask? I understand what this project is about, but do you normally keep to your own kind?"

Merle showed his own form excitement, talking a little fast but with his usual lazy tone.

She put here hand down. Mariah was slightly perturbed by being sniffed out, but it made sense, Dex was a werewolf. Of course he could do that. "On the dot there. Guy. Nice to meet you both" she gigled. "Oh and umm. I guess it depends right? Some Fae stay on the fae realm, some live here in this world. It's as random as always" answering Merle

Dex nodded, "Yea, it's probably going to be random for the most part. Werewolves on the other hand normally stick with their pack, the only werewolves you'll be seeing in the human world will most likely be exiles, lone wolves, and outcasts for whatever various reasons." Leaning against the wall he put his hands comfortably behind his head, "Besides, if any werewolves show up here I'll be the first to know. Need to tell them who's boss around these parts."

Merle nodded as if he was taking notes in his head, a thin hand under his chin. So it varies? From what her could remember at his home, his father always had connections with leaders of other sylph towns and they did not integrate usually.

"I guess it would vary species to species? I have never met any werewolves or faes before, though everyone here seems nice enough."

He thought for a moment about the experiment and grinned.

"Do you think we will be doing trust exercises and going on field trips? Because this might be fun." Merle joked. He felt the stres of the trip weigh on him a little but was too interested in the new apartment residents to care.

The doors opened to the apartment complex, and in strode Sasha, boisterous and brash. In one hand, she carried a suitcase packed to the brim and bursting. In the other, she carried an address and a number.

"Nyeh! This place is awful! It's too... clean!!" She said aloud, scanning the walls and floors. She wiped a finger on the floor and brought it up to her eyes, inspecting it for even a trace of dirt. "Pfft! Has this place been open for five minutes, or is there a REALLY good cleaning staff here? Is that my reflection in that tile? Well, that's one good looking thing here."
This was a big leap forward for Sasha, who had only known living in ransacked cottages and cardboard boxes for the past 400 years. The apartment that boldly claimed it was "A Place for Humans and Monsters Alike!" had caught her interest, and seeming how she had been saving funds for the past 100-ish years of working odd jobs, she clearly deserved to treat herself!

"This cleanliness will just have to go." She said, hopping around towards a garbage can. "If humans and monsters both live here, then by golly, I gotta feel welcome too!"
Without hesitation, she winded up and kicked the trash can with a swift kick. However, the trash can did not budge, and instead made a loud clang that masked the crack of Sasha's foot.
"Yep!! They secured it to the floor! They knew I was coming!" she whimpered to herself, scuttling back into an inconspicuous position and looking back at the paper that would determine where she was going to be living.

Mariah smiled at the both of them. "Maybe, but this isn't some human highschool though, I doubt we'll be taking feild trips"

Dex shrugged, "Who knows, I hear they'll have stuff like that in the future. Perhaps they're just rumors." Turning his head he frowned and shook his head. "My god my nose needs to stop working so well. We have another resident in the building... some sort of creature based around death."

"They should make you the doorman. Anyways, any of you know where Apartment 56 is?" She wanted to unpack before trying to socialize.

Merle lazily shrugged, thinking about what a group of monsters going on trips together would look like, slightly amused with the idea. Chances are it would just be a matter of casual living. And hopefully there would be no hostility through the process. Hearing Dex, he frowned a little.

"Creature based around death. Now what what that even smell like? Would anyone else want to take a little walk and meet our neighbors?"

he looked at Mariah and shrugged.

"I'm in room 8 I believe, and I haven't passed by a room 56 yet. I wish I could help you but I still don't know where I'm staying."

Sasha's head appeared at the end of the hallway, her ears twitching as she eavesdropped on the conversation.
"Well whadda ya know! Do I really smell that bad?!" She sniffed one of her paws, which grew a mouth and clamped onto her nose. "I thee where you're khomign frub".

She trotted down the hallway, and plopped herself smack in the center of the conversation. "So! Are we going on a scavenger hunt? That's what the numbers mean, eh? Tell me what item and-slash-or place 'Forty-one' is, and I'll get outta your way. I just gotta get this bag somewhere, it's weight is killing me!" The bag dropped to the ground, along with Sasha's arm, drooping like like a loose cable. Jokingly, she pretended to reel it back into place like a fishing rod.

"Oh well, that's alright." She looked over at the new person, they were kinda weird, but funny. She smiled at them. "The numbers are our apartment  numbers"

Merle laughed into the sleeve of his robe as the cat like creature came down the hall, watched her antics. She was a funny... whatever she was. An interesting character to say the least.

"It could be a scavenger hunt, hm? Whomever collects the door of the number on their paper may unlock it and get a place to stay. Those who can't will be forced to sleep in the hall or be forced to ask for help." He grinned, then yawned into his sleeve.

"So what can I call you?"

The moment Dex heard about competition he took out his key and paper, looked at the number and chuckled. "If it's a competition let's go!" Without warning he bolted off looking for his number of 33. He wasn't going to lose this competition.

"Nyeh! Name's Sasha. I'm just a poor soul out to find someplace to stay. Don't mind me, noooo sir!" She winks, flashing a small yet toothy grin.
"Now if you'll excuuuuuuuse me, I've got a suitcase to drop off. Bye, Bye!" Waving, she barges out of the hallway and into the main lobby. Despite the possibility of both human and monster onlookers, Sasha has no issue contorting her arms and legs to accommodate a quick escalation of stairs and the occasional leap from banner to banner.

Merle nodded and watched the interesting cat like creature, Sasha, run off and contort in strange ways. He laughed and ran a hand through his hair in slight exasperation while he watched Dex do the same, taking his scavenger hunt proposition seriously. He himself really just wanted to find his room and sleep off the day. Merle looked to the remaining Fae, sighing.

"Well it seems I must have started something. I better go off and find my room. If you need anything, company, or what have you I'll hopefully be in room 8."

Merle offered Mariah a smile before all but dragging his bag down the hall following descending numbers on doors to find 8.
