Max had just finished cleaning up when he heard the banging on his door. He already knew who it was, and he wasn’t surprised in the least bit. Knowing his sister her anger was fair. He had only left her a letter and no other way of contacting him. He kept his phone on always but he never responded when she called, he occasionally responded to a text but for the most part her had fully pulled away from Anchor Bay and he didn’t regret that choice. He regretted the fact that he left his sister behind and probably left her with a million questions. She didn’t have the same pressure as him and he needed to leave with his sanity intact.
He opened the door and there she stood in her anger. He moved out of her way so she could storm into the room, “It’s good to see you too, Dahl.” He tried to lighten the mood a little, but he knew he was failing. If the roles had been reversed, he would’ve been angrier and would’ve kicked in the door. Him and Dahlia were different, and they always had been, and he never cared, he just felt bad that he had hurt his sister because of his choice.
He sat down on the bed before she could even begin to yell at him. If she was going to yell then he wanted to be comfortable, “I’m sorry I left you.” Were the only words he had to say. He couldn’t explain it to her because he knew it would hurt her more, more than him leaving because he had known he was going to leave and never told her. He had been close with Dahlia and told her everything except that he was leaving.
