Alternity Issue #1: The Desolation

"You haven't missed a beat." He spoke genuinely, smirking at Weaponary before the tubes sent the three back up to the surface.

Emma was standing next to the Planetary Statue, one of the only relics of an age gone by. An age she hoped never returned. Vengeance didn't look like her old self, her leather jacket she wore when civilization was still a thing was in tatters and while ripped jeans had been a fashion years upon years ago the rips and tears were much to plentiful to be a fashion statement. Suddenly 3 people, all of which looked like members of the new Legends emerged from underground. Her hands began to glow with life force energy. She prepared to attack them, believing that they would be hostile.

"So all the new Legends aren't dead, are they?" Emma said, her voice filled to the brim with hostility.

Weaponary sighed. This was someone she had explicitly hoped to avoid. She had eyes all over the city and this was one of the least desireable people to meet.

"No we are not." She said. "And unless you are intending to help us ot would be kind of you to move out of the way. We've got a city to return to some semi-semblance of life. Personally I wouldn't mind a little green. Plants and stuff."

Scott made it up to the surface with the others, but were then greeted by another super being, who looked to have sinister intentions. He folded his arms calmly, and stood beside Weaponary.

"Friend of yours, Weaponary?" He asked with curiousity, eyeing the woman carefully.

Nope. Not in a million years.

"I don't know her personally but I know of her. Been watching her through the many cameras in the city. Not really the kind of people I'd like to associate with, as I'm sure she'll show in a moment or so."

Emma sighed. As much as she despised anyone who called themself a superhero she didn't like this world. Who would? All the world was now was dust, death and the shells of a civilization long gone. Emma's hands stopped glowing.

"Not even close. I wasn't planning on helping but this world is sh*tty and teaming up with you guys is probably my best chance of returning it to anything close to what it used to be. I'd shake your hand, but if you knew anything about me, you would probably know that's a bad idea." Emma said this in quite a snark way.

Weaponary smirked. "I know a lot about you, actually. Your name is Emma Thomas . You drain people's life force. You hate people with powers who claim to try to help people, superheroes if you will. You ended up on the news. Killed a few people I knew. "

It was now becoming apparent why Weaponary found this character to be particularly distasteful. From Julian's point of view he had no idea what was going on.

"Pardon me for interrupting." He piped up. "But could somebody explain to me what the hell is going on. I'm new here and I have absolutely zero prior knowledge of anything before the Desolation unlike you three."

Emma smiled, it seems like Weaponary had researched the opposition. Not that it mattered. She could try to kill them later, preferably when they didn't out number her three to one. Emma decided to focus on the question of the person wearing the X-Metal suit. Seems like the 2nd hero had perished in the desolation. She turned to the wearer of the X-Metal suit.

"What now seems like forever ago their used this used to be a bustling city. It was filled with people who had powers, or used technology to gain them. There were those who helped, those who harmed and few in between but in the end the desolation wiped out practically all of them along with all the life in the US."

Julian was still lost. He knew all that already. Who didn't? Obviously this city had been something before.

"Yes I knew all that already. I'm talking about right now. What's all this hostility. Who killed who when why and where. That kind of stuff."

"That? Well I've tried to kill several of Weaponary's allies, but I wouldn't know which she was referring to. I've killed a lot of Supers, some of which where undoubtedly friends of her's. The hostility on my end? I hate superheroes, you don't need to hear any sob stories."

Emma thought back and she honestly wasn't sure who Weaponary was referring to. There was 20 or so people that could probably be it, but you can never know. Plus she had caved in that building around the desolation, so that may have killed a superhero. That incident was an accident though. The others weren't.

Scott listened to the conversation carefully, but more so payed more attention to Emma, who, judging from what she's been saying, hasn't had the best of lives. Scott himself hadn't had a fantasic life as well, but he stayed silent for the rest of the conversation, deciding whether it would be good to talk to her alone or not.

A laugh rang out across the quiet plaza. Well, it was quiet when it came to the fact that there were only four people there. There was a glitch in the air. And another one. Sort of weird pixels forming. It was like something out of the Matrix. And then the pixels formed themselves into the shapes of a red haired man with an expression of pure delight on his face.

"Well isn't this just adorable." Loki said, leaning on his cane. "The Serial Murderer, the War Relic, and Mr. Sparky. People from a bygone era meeting up again." He turned to Weaponary. "Thanks, by the way, for activating that iris scanner. That was the last piece of tech I needed to manifest in the physical world."

It may be post-Desolation, but Scott still gets annoyed whenever he hears anyone call him by the name he loathes the most. He unfolds his arms, before rubbing his temple, sighing loudly so everyone can hear.

"That-that-that's a funny joke. It really is." Scott sarcastically ranted, looking to the sky to breathe in some air before facing the red-headed man.

"THAT DIED YEARS AGO!!!!" Scott exclaimed, his voice bouncing off the walls and the ground. He wasn't pleased. At all. Yeah, he lost it.

Loki doubled over laughing, a weird thing for a living program to do, before breaking into a coughing fit. Once Loki stopped coughing Loki stood up straight and cleared Loki's throat still stifling a few giggles.

"Sorry. I'm sorry." Loki said. "I just haven't been able to interact with the physical world in so long. I can only get glimpses here and there. I'm a bit out of the loop." Loki stretched. "So, mind telling me what happened after I got locked in cyber-limbo during the Desolation. I assume we lost."

Scott looked around them, calming down rather quickly. He rubbed the back of his neck before looking to him again, sighing heavily.

"Yeah... I guess. I mean, look around us, dude." Scott took another glance around again, walking around the general area, tucking his hands into his pockets as he did so.

"We tried. We failed. Some of us are still alive."

He then looked to the group he's with, then to the man again.

"Most of us, under rubble, in pieces, liquidized, God knows what happened."

Weaponary took her swords off her back. Spinning them a bit, she prepared for any fights they might encounter.

"We should get going."

He nods, and takes a few steps forward, deciding to lead the way to where his aquaintance is. He stops, then turns around, facing Emma and Loki.

"You two wanna tag along or not?"

Loki was playing around with magic. Making blue wooshy things. Illusions. That sort of thing.

"Well, I'm bored." He said. "And personally, I find his place distasteful. I'll tag along."

Emma had been kind of amused by Scott's reaction to his old super hero name.

"I'm coming. No point in heroes or villains without a civilization after all, " Emma said with a smile.

He looked at Emma and Loki, nodding before moving forward. He kicks some small rocks across, turning his head slightly to the group as he walked, looking over his shoulder.

"Most of you, just remember:
The name's Scott Anderson."

He turned back around, then continued to lead the way.
