Realistic or Modern All Alone

Alexis

On a crisp summer morning, Alexis woke up. He got out of his bed in his pajamas, like usual. It was what, around 6 in the morning. ALex had a habit of sleeping late and waking up early. He didn't sleep much at night. He would often fall asleep reading a book or go take a nap after school. Today had a different aura to him. The sun was usually up by now but no. It was still dark. But the sun should come up given a few minutes. Meanwhile, he went to get some breakfast, making sure not to wake up his mother who slept until 10. His father must've already been at work. He stayed late at the Nuclear Power Plant, sometimes only coming home a day or two later. Anyways, he got some cereal and started up his computer in his room. He started up Counter-Strike but something wasn't right, the internet wasn't working. It said there was 5 bars but yet he had the error on his s@creen saying he couldn't connect to the internet. Oh well, it must be some monthly downtime. He decided to read. The cold and dark feeling comforted him, such as a braise on his skin.

Zach

BEEP.BEEP.BEEP.

Huh? What? What time is it? Questioned Zach, still half a sleep while trying to turn off his alarm with his eyes closed. Finally, the wretched noise stopped. What time was it? 11:30!! How could he have slept in so late? Maybe he shouldn't have gone back home that late last night. But hey, atleast he had fun last night. Let's see what was on the menu for today. He was going to have lunch, then go to the skate park with Anthony and Max. Well, that seems like a good idea. He quickly ate his lunch, leftovers from Tuesday, i.e half cold spaghetti. Not to bad. His dad was probably at his garage, working as a mecanic. Zach put on his gear and went to the skate park but, before he left, Julia, his 6 year old neighboor was sitting outside, sobbing. Hey there, are you alright Julia? Asked the boy on a friendly tone. He often went to help do chores for Julia's mom, who was alone with her two children: 6 year old Julia and 17 year old Jules, a friend of Zach aswell. The girl rubbed her eyes before speaking up. Mommy is gone... *sniff* Big brother also *sniff* I'm, I'm... ALL ALONE... cried the toddler before bursting into tears, leaving Zach to comfort the girl.

GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET POSTIN.

She was gone. Her grandmother was gone. Now, it could've been passed off simply as the old woman going out for a while but she never went out, ever. Casey was freaking out. Her phone wasn't working, she couldn't call Zach so she resorted to going to him. That's how she ended up sprinting down the street to where her boyfriend lived about three blocks away.

"Zach!" Casey turned the corner to his home, converse slapping against the hot tar of the road. "What the hell is happening?" She found the boy comforting his neighbor, who seemed to be sobbing her eyes out. "Babe?" She climbed up the steps to stand next to him,"My grandma is gone. What's the matter?"

Rags sat in his kitchen, munching on his bowl of doritos. He had gotten some on the floor, but he didn't clean them up. It didn't matter anymore. Daddy couldn't hurt him for it anymore. He smiled to himself, enjoying the cheesy flavor. He knew it wasn't anything like real cheese, but it sure was good. He looked over to the empty bag of chips. He didn't know how to cook very many things. Daddy didn't let him leave his room very much. He would need food. So, he put on his light up Sketchers and stepped out of the back door. He was excited to go shopping by himself. The other adults would undoubtedly look at him strangely, but he still had a feeling of pride thinking of acting as a grown-up. That's when he remembered Daddy's wallet. It was always on him, and had to be wherever he... vanished to. He would have to steal. He didn't like being bad. Daddy said he was a bad kid, and he didn't want others to see him like that. But, he needed food eventually. He walked back inside.

Well, she says her mom isn't there, nor Jules. Said Zach with an uncertain voice. She looks afraid. We shouldn't leave her alone if her parents aren't there. Why are you so freaked out all of a sudden? Maybe she went to get groceries. It is, afterall, 11 AM. Said the boy optimistically, knowing that something else was the matter.

Casey narrowed her eyes and frowned,"My grandmother never leaves without telling me, she can't leave by herself anyway." She glanced at the little girl currently crying,"Don't worry honey, we'll watch you until you mom gets back." Casey gave her a sweet smile.

"Where are your parents?" Casey questions Zach quietly so the younger of the three of them couldn't hear.

Dad? He's probably at the garage. He should come back later. Said Zach affirmatively. Nothing to strange about it.

Casey nodded,"Yea, alright, maybe I'm just exaggerating." She glanced behind her at Julia, and her frown returned,"But why would her mom and brother just up and leave her by herself, and why would my grandmother just up and leave too?" Casey scratched the back of her head, steel blue eyes questioning.

"Maybe we should go see if your dad is at the garage." Casey suggested, sighing,"I'm freaking out, babe."

The first thing Thuy Singer did when she woke up was turn on her phone. 12:00... I really have to work on my sleeping habits. Yawning, she stretched and finally got out of bed. After pretty much drowning her face in water in a (semi-successful) attempt to wake up and brushing her teeth, she finally went downstairs. Of course, there was no one there, not unusual for a weekday. Both of her parents had work and they trusted Thuy to take care of herself. They usually did. As she fixed herself a bowl of cereal, she turned on the television. Surprisingly, there was only static no matter what channel she used. Maybe they're fixing something? she thought. It seemed unlikely that there would be no warning, but oh well. She glanced out the window. It was such a beautiful, sunny day. Maybe I'll go out, to the park or something. Having come to this decision, Thuy finished her breakfast and went back upstairs to change into a simple white sundress and put her hair into its usual bun. After she was done she left the house, locking the front door behind her. At first the walk was peaceful, though there was an unusual lack of people in the streets. It was then that she saw one of her classmates and neighbors--Zach Smith--standing outside of a house with a sobbing little girl. Thuy thought her name was Julia. Another girl, about Zach's age, was also there. Was her name...Cassidy? Cassandra? Carey? Something that started with a C. She decided to come closer and see what was going on. Hopefully there won't be a problem and I can go back to my walk.

"Hey," she called out, curtly. "Is something going on?"

Don't worry, it's going to be alright babe. Said the boy while hugging her. The small girl seemed to stop crying. She looked at the two Thank you. I'm hungry.Exclaimed Julia while rubbing her tummy. Come, let's get you some food on our way to the garage. As he walked away he saw Zhuy. "Not her..." Thought Zach Smith at the sight of Zhuy. He didn't hate the girl but found her weird and a tad annoying, not someone he likes to spend time with anyways.H-hey. Said Zach through his teeth.

((Zhuy? Lol))

Thuy frowned. Finally Zach had noticed her. She normally didn't try to talk to her classmates, and they didn't try to talk to her. Should I answer? It looks like he's handled the situation with Julia...

"I said, is something going on?" she repeated, slightly irritated this time.

Alex finished up a few chapters of his book. The sun shining on his pale face at the moment, he decided to take a stroll. He found it strange mom didn't call him for lunch. Usually she would prepare Mac n Cheese today, his favorite dish. He wasn't hungry today but that's alright, he had a few snacks beforehand. He took a stroll outside but didn't notice the commotion since he lived near the west side of town, the opposite side of where Zach lived.

Rags found a few bucks on his dad's bedside table. Now he could get himself more Doritos. His stomach rumbled. He almost never got to eat anything decent. After walking out front, he sees a person walking, on the other side of the street. He was, to be honest, nervous. He had never done anything like this. He walked up to the person and tapped their shoulder. "Do you know where Wal-Mart is? Or... could you take me there. Mommy and Daddy are..." He stopped himself. "Away." @Infinatis

Casey narrowed her eyes at the girl leaning against the fence. Beckoning Julia inside, Casey slipped her fingers through Zach's and smiled at her,"Yea, everything's just fine thank you." She could tell Zach didn't particularly like this girl, and quite honestly she's always been fairly protective of him. What was this girls name anyway, I'd was something funny sounding she knew. Zhuy? No that's not right. Thuy! That's it.

Thuy was starting to feel even more annoyed than she had been. The C-something girl might have been perfectly polite and smiling, but it was obvious that she disliked Thuy. Couldn't she be straightforward about it? Thuy was just trying to do what any concerned person would do.

"Well, alright then," she finally said, "and you're welcome, but I'd like to know why Julia was upset." Oh, this isn't going to end well, is it? she thought, but unfortunately pride and spite forced her to hold her position.

Casey rolled her eyes,"She's fine, her mothers gone we're watching her." She made sure to put a stress the we're part. Casey tried to stay standoffish but her curiosity and conscious ?that was currently flipping out about people going missing, got the best of her.

"Speaking of parents going missing, you wouldn't happen to have lost some parents would you?"

Thuy lifted an eyebrow. Seriously?

"Yes, I lost mine. To their jobs."

Though, now that she thought about it, her mother would probably have called by now to check up on her. Thuy's hand subconsciously strayed down to her purse, where her phone was.

"But really? What makes you ask that?"

((Ah, let's just pretend the purse was originally there. I suppose continuity errors are unavoidable.))

Iris yawns and stretches awake from the sunlight gleaming upon her face through her window. She sits up, books piled up all around her room, a book opened facing down on her belly, the one she was reading before crashing. She smiled and remembered the highlights of what she had recently read. Iris moved the book and clumsily got out of bed. Exhausted she rubbed her face while walking to the nearby kitchen. She opened the fridge, but it wasn't on, "that's weird," she told herself. Instinctively, she closed it, attempting to keep the food cold until the power gets back on. Iris found it weird, usually her house is active with her parents doing something stupid. Bored of her home, she got dressed and walked outside, wincing at the sunlight after stepping out of darkness.

((My god, I'm late, so very late, apologies. Also, uh, Wade is locked in the house so can anyone come give an invite or just give her a push to break open the door? lol))

The small bedroom door swings open as Wade staggers inside, she set her destination on the walls that were decorated with childish drawings of her youth. The whole house was desolated; she had turned over every stone and searched the whole house thoroughly. However, nobody but her was home, her search eventually lead to a dead end, no messages, no clues, and no way out. All 7 windows and the only door of the house were locked. Wade didn't bother to close the door and lunged herself towards the wall but only to find herself hitting the floor. She laid there face planted on the rough surface for a while.

'She's late,' she said inside her head.

Wade forced herself up and pulls her knees closer up to her chest to laid her head in between. ‘She’ has been gone for a while, and her mind is spinning with thousands of questions of what ifs; what if ‘she’ had met with an accident? What if ‘she’ was kidnapped? What if ‘she’ was meant to leave and never come back when she left 2 days ago? That was officially the worst idea her mind has ever come up with, so far that was longest time that 'she' had been apart from Wade. Unthinkable scenarios are beginning to plague her mind; anxiety whispers words of insecurity into her ears that torment her mind. She can't stand it anymore.

In the fear of her own thoughts, Wade balled up her fist and clenched tightly. For once in her own life, Wade became genuinely afraid, she felt as if she was going to lose the only person she known and truly cherish. A splash of crimson dripped from the gap between Wades’ fingers to the ground, nails digging into the flesh unconciously. Waterworks broke out when she finally spoke something but in a small desperate yet hoarse voice;

“Come back…”

Our parents are gone too. Well, my dad should be in the garage, where we're heading. Said Zach looking uninterested.

"...That's odd," she finally said. "Could I...could I come with you?" Suddenly the animosity Thuy had been feeling left her, and she started to feel shy and awkward. Her hands clasped together behind her back nervously.

Yeah, sure. Said Zach. That's alright with you, babe? Asked the boy to Casey.

@Iskolde

Casey shrugged in contempt,"Yea, sure. Let's just get going." She wanted to get there and get there fast, because if something was going on, it needed to be found out.

"Alright." Thuy began to walk briskly towards the garage where she knew Mr. Smith worked. "What are you going to do if he's not there?"

We'll get a heart attack! Joked Zach loudly, pointing his finger to the sky.
