Alchemical Questions

Its time for another edition of 'Jimborg asks...'

1. If the Seal of Eight Divinites has been broken and an Alchie runs into another Primordial Exalted, would their respective Primordials compel them to "kill the servants of the traitor" through Limit/Resonance, or would it be more subtle than that?

2. If an Alchemical becomes an Apostate and gets a tainted God Machine Charm, would you let them bind demons? My understanding was that demon binding was a privilege granted to the winners of the Primordial War, and since Alchemicals didn't exist then, they can't bind demons. Summon? Sure. Bind? More of a gray area.

On that note, I think Abyssals were grandfathered into Demon Binding via their Solar Shards and Internals are able to control demons through Yozi authority rather than traditional methods, which have been removed from them for obvious reasons.

1. Limit and Resonance don't work like that; they're general rules of behavior, not targeted mission statements. The Neverborn would probably have some choice dreams to send Abyssals, especially if the Abyssal looked for guidance. Infernal Limit is likely to undergo some revision to be less stupid than it currently is, and that will entail "it's not something the Yozis do to someone else."

2. Up in the air. I'd be inclined to not allow Alchemicals the luxury, because I think "Oh, a new kind of Exalted. I guess that counts, too" shows too much lack of foresight on the part of the authors of the binding oaths to be palatable, and the alternative is some metaphysical reason the oaths had to be open in that way which I also don't like.

Actually, with the Green Sun Princes, it's the exact opposite - when a GSP is near any Alchemical, they can ignore one success on an Essence roll for violating their Urge. Has to do with the Alchemical resonating with the GSP's nature as a burgeoning Yozi.

* head desk* Ah, you're both completely right about the Limit/Resonance issue. Must've had a brain fart or something

Demon-binding's an interesting one, but personally, I wouldn't let 'em. The logic is as follows:

Infernals, with their Sorcerous Initiation of [Yozi], can only bind demons, essentially, because the Yozis let them- they can't learn the conventional Demon of the Nth Circle spells. I saw someone on the White Wolf forum noticing, and being congratulated by the writers for noticing, that the Weave-Shredding Paradox Engine is Autochthon's version of the Sorcerous Initiation of [Yozi]. Thus it follows that they don't get the conventional demon-binding- but since he's a whole Primordial, not a Yozi, he shouldn't get the Yozi demon-summoning spells either.

However, I think there's space for a Summon Gremlin spell to make up for all that...
