Osaka City, Central Castle - Morning, 2 hours past sunrise (9 AM)

1518392756072.png
As the warm summer breeze blew around gently, many people were bustling about in the central city of Osaka, the home of the Azai family and respectively, the clan as well. In the center of the city, a tall building loomed over the rest of the smaller buildings with flags hanging down from the sides and edges of the roof, displaying the clan's symbol in its bright red and black colors. The pieces of cloth billowed gently in the breeze, giving the flags a sense of depth. It was one of the few garrison locations where members of the military were kept. There were other buildings like this one spread out through the city, each headed by a captain. They were tasked with the protection of their section of the city, as well as responding to the call of the head general or any member of the royal family.

Designed for functionality and efficiency, the buildings served multiple purposes. For one, the military pretty much lived in these buildings. They trained, ate and slept in these buildings. Though, they were given free time throughout the day so that they could sustain their personal lives. Each building was equipped with a smoke signal mechanism at the top floor, where different colored smoke could be expelled into the air, signalling to the other garrison buildings as well as the castle.

The castle was fairly standard. It was a large fortress really, the buildings surrounded with walls with watchtowers in the corners and two gates, guarded as well. Inside the walls was where the high ranking officials, advisers, and family all lived as well as any of their direct servants. In the middle of the entire complex was a massive open courtyard area where people could gather and converse. Sometimes, the military was summoned to that open space to be presented and inspected by the high ranking officals or even the Daimyo himself.

Today was one of those days. Before he had set off yesterday, Akihiko Azai, the Daimyo, had asked his daughter to inspect the military to see how their conditioning was coming along. Of course, Mirisaki obliged.

Standing on a balcony at the top floor the central building in the fortress was the girl herself. Mirisaki stared blankly as she looked down at the empty courtyard. Soon, it was going to be filled with men and women who had devoted their lives to fighting for the clan and the honor the name held. Mirisaki was dressed in her everyday kimono, her hair tied back with a red ribbon in her usual fashion, a ponytail.

Being left to look after the clan and its people was nothing new to Mirisaki. She had done it before. If anything, there wasnt much change to how things operated. Just that everyone answered to her, instead of her father.

To anyone watching Mirisaki, it would've appeared that she was just day-dreaming, lost in her thoughts. They would be correct, to an extent. Mirisaki wasnt day-dreaming. She was instead thinking about what to do with the military when they would arrive. She had informed the head general and her advisers that she would personally run today's evaluation.

Off the top of her head, she could run off her father's regiment with no problem. She had seem him do it many times over. Though, she wanted to put her own touch to it. Something that could define her own way of doing things.

Her thought process was suddenly interrupted as a small feminine voice spoke up behind Mirisaki.

Ohayōgozaimasu, Mizu

Turning around, Mirisaki saw Akari, dressed in her black casual floral kimono. She was bowing to Mirisaki, her hair falling down to cover her face a little bit. Mirisaki smiled lightly, returning the gesture.

Ohayō, Mori Akari

The two women rose at the same time as the younger female, Akari, approached her superior. Akari was Miriskai's retainer, but in a more household and personal aspect. She assisted Mirisaki in her personal endeavors, such as bathing, dressing, and other personal needs. Akari wasnt much of a fighter, and she was too clumsy to even try to hold a large sword, but with some patience and constant practice, Mirisaki had gotten Akari to the point where the she could defend herself and Mirisaki, if needed. As a reward, Mirisaki had given Akari a tanto blade, one that Akari keeps with her at all times.

Akari looked around for a moment, a confused look on her face.

Where is Ryu? Shouldnt he be with you?
He is below us. I am having him make sure everything is ready for today.

Akari nodded, understanding, then spoke up again

I have everything ready for you as you asked last night.
Thank you. I'll be in shortly to change.

Akari nodded, bowing once more before leaving the balcony. Mirisaki had Akari prepare her more battle-esque attire, consisting of a red and black patterned shoulderless top and black loose pants, as well as having her personal weapons sharpened and ready. Mirisaki took another look down at the courtyard before turning around, walking inside to prepare herself.

Down below, it was a lot more frantic and busy compared to up above. People were moving about, getting ready for the evaluation that was taking place today. At the garrison towers, lieutenants were making sure the military were in top form while the captains were already at the fortress. Ryu Sato, Mirisaki's other retainer, had called them early this morning. He wanted to make sure that they had been following the latest training regiment released by the head general over the course of the past months. It was an interesting system, devised by the Daimyo himself. Every so often, a new training regiment would be released, detailing what should be focused on in regards to either personal ability to fight, or group efforts such as charges or other methods of attack, defense, or both.

Ryu was dressed in his semi-formal hakana, his wakizashi at his side. He didnt have his odachi on him, since he found no need for it and left it inside the main building, in his room. His hair was tied back per usual, neatly brushed. While today's event wasnt anything formal, Mirisaki had asked Ryu to look decent, at minimum. He was happy to oblige.

Glancing up, Ryu looked towards the balcony at the top floor. He noticed that no one was there anymore, figuring that Mirisaki was now getting herself ready. Looking back down, he turned to a young man, who seemed to be waiting at attention for something. Ryu nodded to that man.

It is time. Signal the towers.

The young man nodded, running off in a direction. Ryu turned back to the captains of the garrison towers, who were lined up side by side. The Daimyo had designated a captain to each tower and to its garrison respectively, while the head general held command over all the military. Technically, Ryu was above all them as well, but he could only exercise his power at Mirisaki's discretion.

Out of the corner of his eye, Ryu noticed movement. He looked up towards the main gate and he could see a massive crowd filling into the fortress, walking up the stairs and taking a place on the walls surrounding the area. Ryu huffed out lightly, turning his attention away from the growing crowd. As much as it has been going on for a long time, Ryu still didnt approve of the public folk viewing military events. However, Mirisaki had said that this was a good motivator for the military. Failure in public was something that no one wanted to experience. He had no choice but to allow this to occur. He trusted Mirisaki's judgement. Even her father had backed Mirisaki in regards to allowing the public in, so perhaps he was just overreacting.

Ryu looked back to the garrison captains, walking by all of them and spoke briefly to each of them, asking them the same question.

Have you been following the latest training regiment, Taii?

Eventually, he came up to Ishikawa Tokimori, who was the last in the line. Like the other captains, Ryu asked Ishikawa the same question.

Back inside the castle, Mirisaki had just finished dressing. Clad in her battle-esque attire, she made sure the sleeves were properly fit. Off to the side, Akari was standing by, her hands together and in front of her. On a rack was Mirisaki's weapon. Her double kodachi. Gifted when she satisfied her father in her combative abilities, she had cherished the weapon ever since, taking good care of it. It had seen some battles, but nothing too grand. Below the sword as a leather belt with shurikens attached in groups of four. There were eight total.

She went over, taking up her arms. The double kodachi was slung over her shoulder and across her back while the shurikens were behind her and slightly off to the side. Satisfied with her appearance, she went for the door, sliding it open and walked out. Akari followed behind Mirisaki, closing the door after them.

As she walked, Mirisaki was greeted and bowed to around every corner. She put on a small smile and acknowledged everyone in return. It didnt take her long to reach the ground floor and walk out of the building and out into the courtyard. There, Ryu was waiting. He bowed to Mirisaki, who bowed in return. Just as if everything was perfectly timed, white smoke began rising from the watchtowers, signalling to the garrison towers that it was time to send the military to the fortress.

When Mirisaki stood out in the open, the crowd up on the walls noticed and called out to the female in a joyous chorus. Mirisaki looked around, waving back to the people, but then turned her attention back to the main gate. It wouldnt be long until the military and other members of the military turned up. From ashigaru to the samurai, every man and woman who devoted their lives to fighting would be lined up and present before Mirisaki.

Ishikawa Tokimori
"Hai!"
The young captain bowed as the older retainer asked him the question, his signature smile ever present on his face.
"As the general wished, it was done." Tokimori said when he was hunched over for the bow, but as he stood back up, he added. "I did take the liberty in instilling some additional training on the men. After all, you can never be too prepared."
Tokimori had been been running his men a further then the expected mark, was necessarily, but it wasn't exactly wrong. Even if they were exhausted then the rest after each day, they were beginning to distinguish themselves not even from the garrison but even from the rest of the Aizu army. They're hard work were finally beginning to pay off.
It wasn't just practising the same old thing either, Tokimori may not appear to be any differnt than your average samurai, but he had differnt way of approaching combat than most. Sure, it was important to be aware of the basics, and indeed Tokimori had completed what he was ordered.
But...
...Tokimori had been, experimenting, with newer tactics and formations.
Especially regarding with the firearms, quite a new addition to a soldier's arsonal.
It was his uncle that was first excited about this new weapon, somthing first imported by foreigners, later the Japanese people were able to produce themselves. Sure, some people, even clans would said this weapon was dishonorable, even cowardly. But the weapon was efficient and victory, Tokimori did like efficient, and victory brought about honor.
Tokimori's men had been drilling with these things, though they've practising some differnt methods of utilizing such new technology, both on foot and on horseback.
Still, Tokimori said nothing of it.
After All, you can never be too prepared.

The people got louder. Cheers everywhere. And a woman on what was close to a stage, that waved back at them. It was stunning, how much the people were sent into a frenzy of joy by simply seeing the daimyos daughter. But Ikasia understood it. She was a figure of motivation, movement and a sign, never to give up. THat is what the people saw in her and cheered for. The Azai clan was different and had a hard time with the other clans. To stand out those conflicts and hardships, that is what Mirisaki Azai stood for. Ikasia was almost next to the door, at the side, out of the peoples vision in an arc. She leaned there, in kimono and hat pulled deep to the face. Her weapons at her sides. You almost never saw her in any different attire. "The people love you Azai-hime. They love what you stand for, love how they can trust blindly. You are a lot like your father in that regard. He always was a symbol as well. He never let them down. I doubt you will, Azai-hime." Ikasia´s voice was blunt and honest. Though Mirisaki probably knew how much those words meant from Ikasia.

Ikasia was probably not supposed to be up there. But she hated being among the crowds, Ikasia preferred having an overview, specially since in her eyes, occasions like these always called for trouble in one way or another. She had climbed up the walls. No easy task usually, but Ikasia had practice climbing surfaces that did not offer much support. While she had climbed, a guard had spotted her. He had called up to her. "Hey you, get down here before i get you down!" Ikasia had simply looked down. "If i get down there, you will regret that. She had looked him straight in the eyes and the guard had realized who she was. "Never mind me, Miwato-san!", he said. "But you aren´t supposed to do that!" "Let that be my issue. If Azai-san decides to punish me, i will accept." The guard shrugged. He had known better than to get into that, he knew he was best just getting himself out of whatever was going on there. And so Ikasia had without further issues made her way up, to now stand there and talk to the daimyos daughter.

Ryu seemed content with the response from Ishikawa. When the captain added in that he had inserted some other training regiments, Ryu raised an eyebrow, curious. Normally, people wouldnt dare divert from instructions. Though, this was the Azai clan. People were more free, in a sense. A small smile appeared on Ryu's face as he nodded.

Perhaps you are willing to share what exactly you did. It may be noted down in the next regiment.

Ryu stood in front of Tokimori, his hands behind his back with his fingers interlocked. Though strategy wasnt his forte, Ryu knew that the advisers, the general and even Mirisaki herself could benefit from knowing these new methods. Perhaps a commendation was in order for Tokimori, seeing as he goes above and beyond. But that wasnt up to Ryu.

As Mirisaki waited, she heard a voice speak up loudly behind her. The words that were spoken and the sound of the voice were all too recognizable that Mirisaki didnt have to turn around. Though, Akari quickly turned at the sound of someone new. Before they could do anything though, Mirisaki raised a hand.

It is fine.

Akari looked back at Mirisaki, but trusted her superior and relaxed, lowering her guard. Mirisaki turned her head to look over her shoulder at the woman standing just a few feet away from her.

Your words are flattering, Ikasia-san.

There was a small hint of a smile on Mirisaki's face, but you had to look closely to see it. Mirisaki knew how Ikasia could be, how she acted. She had seen her plenty of times when she was with her father. Mirisaki was always being urged by her advisers to control the woman, but Mirisaki knew better than to put a leash on a person such as Ikasia. Ikasia's loyalty was in the right place, Mirisaki knew, which convinced her enough to leave the older woman be.

Mirisaki took a glance towards the main gate. There was still no sign of the military just yet. Though, she knew they were on their way. The northern garrison would be the first to arrive, followed by the east and the west, with the southern coming up last. Up in the sky, the watchtowers had stopped releasing white smoke. The sky was clear, save for a few clouds here and there.

Looking back down, Mirisaki turned her body to better see Ikasia. Dressed in her trademark white kimono with both her swords at her sides, it was an appearance that many knew well of. Everyone had their way of making a statement.

Did you climb the wall, or did you enter normally for once?

Behind Mirisaki's question was a joking tone. She knew very well Ikasia was fond of making unorthodox entrances. But it gave Mirisaki a little chuckle asking such an obvious question.

Ikasia watched Akari tense up, yet loosen again at her superiors words. Ikasia chuckled slightly, shaking her head. She however saved all comments for later, she did not want to be respectless. The retainer was somebody worth respect and Ikasia knew better as to lecture her like a kid. Despite young age, she was no kid at all. Ikasia would do her the favor of not treating her like one.

"I did not intend to flatter, we both know that. It was the truth, Azai-hime." She tilted her head to the side. "I am worried, Azai-hime. I feel like something is coming at us. I cannot name it, not put a finger on it. I just feel like there is a test ahead of us." Ikasia shrugged. "But it might be nothing. Just an old woman feeling crazy.", she added. Though Ikasia´s concerns were genuine. Her face showed it to the trained reader.

"I did actually climb, yes. You would expect it to be a lot harder than it actually is.", she replied slightly chuckling again. "I doubt i would have been let in."

The Daimyo arrived at the castle, his gaze drifting over the large gathering of citizens atop the walls, before resting upon the Lady Azai at the opposite end of the courtyard. The atmosphere surrounding the ageing man commanded a certain amount of attention, and as he, along with his protégé and a few guards, marched towards the small gathering of officials by the main building, Tomomi gave a quaint nod to his superior.

He was unused to such grandiosity as this, nor the raucous tendency of such an event - which was military in nature; for his reign in Tokai was far more subdued, and for some years now had been peaceful and uninvolved in most matters outside of the region. In truth, the appearance of the Yamashitas here was a mere formality, a sign of their continued allegiance to the Azai Clan. Tomotoshi, Tomomi's nephew and future successor, was present also, and advanced alongside his uncle. He too would have to prove his fealty, such as that the Azai Clan could trust their alliance would endure even after Tomomi's death or abdication.

"Speak with decency and poise," The Daimyo uttered firmly to his nephew as they approached the steps, "Show your respect, but maintain your quality. Obsequiousness will make you appear weak, and arrogance is out of the question."

The young man nodded his head silently, looking ahead much like his Uncle was, though if one paid enough attention they would notice his trembling fingers and stiff posture as the party drew closer to the princess. He took in a deep breath, releasing it slowly before sparing a brief glance at his mentor. The Daimyo was stoic, his form did not waver even under the scrutiny of all these people and even the princess herself. He seemed wholly confident, even as they ascended the last few steps towards the Lady Azai his stern expression did not waver for a moment.

"Azai-hime." Tomomi bowed lowly, offering her a warm smile. He made no comment on how she had grown since his last visit, but indeed she was a far more mature girl now. She looked like a true leader, and Tomomi had no doubt the Yamashitas would remain just as amicably allied with the Azai Clan as they had under the reign of Akihiko. Both Daimyo had been reasonably close, enough to bear the title of friends... in truth it had been the primary reason they had remained allied for so long. It wasn't unnoticed by the Yamashitas that remaining with the Azai Clan was somewhat detrimental to their own well-being regarding the other clans, but Tomomi's friendship with Akihiko ensured that their bond remained as strong as ever, even if he did not agree with everything they did.

Tomotoshi bowed alongside his uncle, following suit, "Azai-hime." As he'd been taught, the young man said nothing further until he was addressed by the princess herself. She would be the one to lead the conversation, and Tomotoshi was to speak only when spoken to - even if the Azai Clan was less strict about such matters, Tomomi had assured him that regardless, utmost respect was to always be maintained in the Yamashita Clan, especially regarding superiors.

Both Tomomi and his nephew moved to stand to the side, and slightly behind the Lady Azai in preparation for the coming display.

Hiromasa morning routine bearly ever changes of course days like this sometimes means it has to. Waking up at around six am getting ready into his everyday kimono before making some Miso Shiru (Miso Soup) and Gohan (Steamed Rice) his usual breakfast whenever he has the ingredients he needs, mostly since it's simple, filling and carries usually the amount nutrients he needs to start the day. He spends the next hour getting his mindset in the right place via meditation and usually unless he had something else to do he would spend the next several hours training alone or with another, in this case, he only had around an hour to get some practice in before he was called away along with the rest of the warrior types that belong to the Azai clan, he had been informed about this the day before and had been forced to speed up his overall morning practice.

Hiromasa arrived with a large number of other warriors and samurai he had hoped to avoid the large number of warriors by leaving it a short while to arrive but with the number of warriors heading the same place he guessed it would be close to impossible and that it was mostly since he didn't want to be too late since it was not only a public showing but a showing with the Azai clan next in line so being late wouldn't look good causing him to want to arrive on time. After making his way through the crowd and to the courtyard Hiromasa knelt down at the back of the courtyard away from the main crowd and once again began meditating waiting for when he is needed.

Ishikawa Tokimori
"Perhaps...but we've yet to have actual field testing; I would be more at ease to be able to confirm that our tactics work in the field rather then in theory. We don't want to push a faulty theory now would we?"
In truth, Tokimori knew that these tactics would work, though like many such tactics worked in a given senerio.
After all, he'd used it before.
True, the first time he had ordered it the formation was rather crude and slapdash, all his men involved had been frantic scrambling into formation when he gave the order, uneasy about the prospect. But when it was time to execute, Tokimori had to give his men all the credit; they weren't perfect, but everything went to plan, and that was all Tokimori could ask for.
But the reason Tokimori was a bit...humble with his newer tactics, was because he wasn't sure how command would take it, command and how the rest of public would take it.
Sure, their clans were progressive, but still...Tokimori couldn't help but get a nagging feeling about it.
Better be certain about his strategies before pushing it, so that he could have a little bit more evidence to persuade his superiors.
"Though...I suppose we could give a demonstration when the time comes for our inspection." The young captain, keeping his smile on his face. "But enough of that, we still have a job to do. Does our Lord have any tasks for us? Or are we to remain at our stations?"

Mirisaki just smiled at Ikasia's answer, having no response. Though, she raised an eyebrow curiously when the older woman began to go on about having a feeling, or a sense, that something was coming. Normally, most people would just wave off notes like these, but Mirisaki was intrigued.

Perhaps. Whatever it may be, I'm sure that it is something we can overcome.

The Fluffiest Floof The Fluffiest Floof

Mirisaki turned her attention back to the courtyard, in time to see the colors of Yamashita clan, displayed exceptionally by the armor the guards that flanked the clans Daimyo, Yamashita Tomomi. There was a younger man following just behind the elder. Perhaps Tomomi had brought along his successor for some sort of field day. Mirisaki remembered when her father took her around the lands, meeting new people and seeing new places. It was an experience she wouldnt forget, mainly because it was at a time where the clans were more peaceful with the Azai. Those years were long gone, though. With tensions rising between clans other than the Azai, it wouldnt be long before the Azai clan was the next target.

Mirisaki watched intently as the Tomomi approached with his party. It didnt take them long to cross the courtyard and walk up the steps. She watched as the two men bowed, addressing her formally. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that the younger one was nervous. He was trembling slightly and he looked uncomfortable. Stiff. Perhaps this was his first time being around someone new, or someone with a high status.

Nevertheless, Mirisaki returned the smile and the gesture, bowing in return. Rising moments later, she opened up the conversation.

Yamashita-sama, a pleasure to see you as always. Who is this you brought along?

Mirisaki gestured to the younger man, a curious look on her face.

Ryu nodded, reaching up to scratch his chin a bit, then continued.

I am most curious to see how effective your strategies prove, Taii. I'm sure Azai-hime will be interested as well.

Ryu was about to turn to join his superior but was caught on Ishikawa's next question. Ryu took a moment to think before shaking his head

I'm unaware of any instructions from Azai-dono, but I'm sure there is something in line after this morning's events. Have patience.

Elekta Kount Elekta Kount

With that final remark, Ryu gave Ishikawa a nod before turning and moving to join Mirisaki at her side, silently inserting himself. He noticed that some members of the Yamashita clan had turned up. An honorable ally of the clan, Ryu held a great amount of respect for their members and their daimyo. Mirisaki was already conversing with the daimyo, so Ryu made no move to insert himself into the conversation, looking straight ahead.

While Mirisaki and Tomomi were conversing, the military began to filter into the fortress. The public crowd cheered and whistled, calling out to the people they recognized. Led by the lieutenants, each garrison filed in neatly, lined up in ranks. They were dressed in their full armor, weapons at their sides. Calvery filtered in at the end of each garrison, taking their place in the back with their yari pointed up in the air in a ready position. First the north garrison entered, then the east and the west, followed up by the south. Once all the garrisons found their places, they stood at attention, awaiting further instruction.

Tomomi gave his nephew an expectant look, and the young man faced the princess more directly, stepping forward so as to introduce himself. He dipped his head formally, "I am Yamashita Tomotoshi, Azai-hime. Nephew and heir to the Yamashita Daimyo." He raised his head, looking at her directly and with a confident sincerity... even if it wasn't flawless, "It is truly an honour to meet you. I hope in future our clans may continue their long reigning allegiance and friendship."

Beside him, the Yamashita Daimyo suppressed a proud smile, his stern expression showing not so much as a twitch of a lip, but there was a slight glint in his eye which subtly hinted at his inner self. Tomotoshi spoke smoothly and respectfully, and with purpose - just as he had been guided. The young man continued to show promise, and to re-assure the Daimyo he had not chosen wrongly.

"Indeed." Tomomi followed, giving his nephew a slight nod - much to his relief. "And I have no doubt they shall under your guidance, Azai-hime. You are a credit to your father, and to the Azai Clan. The Yamashitas are glad to remain your close allies in all things."

Their conversation was allowed to dwindle as the military filed in, and attention was drawn to the proceedings instead. Tomomi held a straight posture as he awaited the beginnings of things. The formality of such events was something he was well accustomed to, but in truth the elder much preferred the relaxed nature of his privacy these days. He seemed so expert at maintaining face in public view; but naught could compare to the warm feeling he felt when sitting at home, watching his youngest nieces and nephews wasting the hours of the day with silly games and contagious laughter.

Yes, he was getting older. He could feel it in his bones. In the way his muscles ached each morning; with how his eyes sometimes blurred if he stood up too quickly, or the numb feeling in his toes when he sits down for too long... but mostly, it's how each waking moment is spent thinking back. No longer did the Daimyo look to the future, for where was he in that? Instead he merely paved the way for his nephew, to ensure he could carry that future and at long last Tomomi could relent this mantle to the next successor.

The Daimyo drew in a long breath, letting his sigh drift out and his gaze settle on the crowd of soldiers before them. These were his final years as a leader, and somewhere within he could feel that they would be some of his most trying.

Mirisaki nodded, smiling in acknowledgement to Tomotoshi. In a way, he was like a younger version of Tomomi, but more stiff, though Mirisaki was sure he'd learn to loosen up when he fully inherited the position of Daimyo of the Yamashita clan.

It is a pleasure to meet you as well Tomotoshi-san. I'm sure that the bond between our clans will remain strong throughout the ages.

Her gaze shfited to Tomomi, who added onto Tomotoshi's statement. Mirisaki nodded again in agreement.

I speak for everyone here, myself included, that we are happy to have such a devoted ally and that we are always willing to return the favor and stand by the Yamashita in their times of need.

Wackadoodle0987 Wackadoodle0987

With that, the conversation died and Mirisaki turned her attention to the courtyard. The military had arrived. It didnt take them long to line up in their ranks, separated in different sections to identify which garrison was which. The north and east were up in the front while the west and the south were in the back. After doing this for a good amount of times prior to now, everyone had a good sense of what to do when they arrived. It had become natural at this point.

Mirisaki gave a small bow, excusing herself from the rest of the group that was on the stage-like landing, walking down the steps to the ground. The crowd along the walls grew silent, giving Mirisaki their full attention. While Akari remained up on the landing, Ryu followed Mirisaki down. Mirisaki raised a hand and up on the landing, two large drums were brought forward on the landing, placed on either side of the stairs. A young woman and man came forward with drum mallets, standing on the side of the drum that was facing out to the army. Mirisaki lowered her hand and the two drummers raised their mallets, waiting and ready. With a loud and commanding tone, Mirisaki spoke loudly, almost like a control shout.

I wish you all good morning and bid you to do your best! First, the northern garrison!

The drummers began to hit the large drums in a rhythmic pattern. In a fluid motion, the other three garrisons moved to the side while the northern garrison moved so it was in the center of the courtyard. The whole transition only took a few seconds, at which that point the drummers stopped, standing at their ready position again. Once in position, the northern garrison all stood at full attention, then bowed, chorusing simultaneously

Watashitachi wa anata no tame ni junbi o totonoe, Azai-hime!
Jōshō!

The northern garrison rose, standing at attention. Mirisaki turned to look behind her, calling out to one of the four captains that were lined up on the landing. She knew all of them by name, and knew which one was tasked to which garrison.

Ishikawa Tokimori, take your place with your men.

The soft and sociable Mirisaki had disappeared, and in place was a more commanding and assertive alter ego. It wasnt uncommon for Mirisaki to change moods all of a sudden. She had learned from her father that sometimes, a sudden change of mood or personality can be a positive thing, as it changes the atmosphere to your mood, giving you the advantage morally. It was a tactic Akihiko used many times during diplomatic talks, shifting the mood of the room into his favor. A devious little trick, but effective. Plus, Mirisaki's father never tricked anyone to do harm. It was simply his way of driving his point.

Hayate stared at his mother as she scolded him her screaming was somehow blocked off all he could hear was a slight ringing in his ears. Sighing the male stood up politely he spoke with no ill manner, "Are you finished mother? My head hurts."
The middle ahead female stood there in awe banging her hand on the wooden table, " Of course your head hurts it's because of that trash you drink. Boy! Were you not listening! You woke up late and you will walk in the late...with your head bared into the ground." Hayate sighed looking over to the side his gaze fell down to the wooden table grabbing the cup he stared at it for a while after placing back down and grabbing the sack and walking out. In the process, he could hear his mother shouting as he slowly shut the door, "You are a disgrace to the family!" not paying a mind to his mother he took a large gulp from the bottle in his hands before throwing it away.

As he walked through the entrance people stared, at first sight, he looked like a lost drunk but looking a little closer you could tell that he was of high status and which family he came from. Hayate slightly coughing shocking in the process knelt down although he felt dizzy he had a high tolerance for alcohol standing up straight it didn't seem as though he was completely and utterly drunk. Walking up to the female he bowed his head slightly showing his respect. Hayate didn't seem to mind or recognize the others who have surrounded the young leader it was either his vision was getting blurry or he didn't recognize most likely it was his vision at this point he was seeing double.

Tomomi was... startled, to say the least, at the man before them. He reeked of alcohol, and to stand before the princess in such a state, let alone address her with a bow was an insult the Daimyo wouldn't tolerate, even if she might have. He gave a slight tilt of his head, and one of his guards came forwards, holding the man's arm with a light but firm grasp. A gesture of sorts that suggested he may stand aside calmly and with their aid, or he may be dragged away.

The drunkard may not have realised it himself, but to present himself as such was an act of extreme egregiousness - were this the Fujiwara he may very well be imprisoned or executed for such heinous behaviour. Still, Tomomi offered the Lady Azai a glance, as though awaiting her permission to remove the distasteful individual. He would be lucky to depart with just that.

Ikasia looked at the scene before her. The daimyo of the other clan was completely taken off guard by the figure before him, his traditional ways not suitable and not fitting for this situation. It was very clear he had never dealt with a situation like this without being in charge and even though Ikasia distasted the man that now drunkenly stood there herself, she loved the situation he had caused. She chuckled audibly, clear for everyone in the scene to hear. But she did not stop there, she started straight up laughing under her kasa.

Mirisaki sighed softly, watching the wasted male approach and kneel before her, his head bowed down. Her facial expression changed for a short moment, becoming one of remorse, or pity perhaps. Whatever it was, it was gone in a second as Mirisaki's expression returned to somewhat emotionless and assertive. Out of the corner of her eye, Mirisaki noticed as the Yamashita guard had come down, taking hold of Hayate's arm.

Ryu moved to intercept the guard, but Mirisaki stopped him. Turning to look behind her, Mirisaki nodded to Akari, who was quick to respond and came down the stairs to stand by her superior's side. Mirisaki then turned to look at the Yamashita guard.

I thank you for your helpfulness. Please, escort this man inside. My retainer will take care of him from there.

Mirisaki gestured to Akari as she mentioned her, and the retainer would lead the Yamashita guard into the main building of the fortress. Mirisaki looked back at Tomomi, giving him a small nod to at least comfort the elder that this was under control. She knew that such a man like Hayate wouldnt be tolerated as much as he was here.

With that taken care of, Mirisaki returned her attention to the garrison, who have yet to begin their regiment.

In the background, she could hear Ikasia laugh out loud, looking back for a second time at the older woman. Mirisaki only raised an eyebrow at the woman, remaining silent. Ryu didnt look back, but let out a heavy sigh of annoyance.

The Fluffiest Floof The Fluffiest Floof

Inside the main building, Akari led the Yamashita guard who was still pulling Hayate around into a large dining area. Akari had Hayate sit at the table in the middle of the room then smiled to the guard, bowing her head.

Thank you for your assistance. I can handle this man from here on out.

Akari waited until the Yamashita guard left the room before turning to Hayate, sighing softly.

We cant keep doing this. At some point you're going to have to learn to control that addiction of yours.

Akari walked off to a door that was marked "キッチン" (Kitchen), coming out only a few moments later with a small pot in her hand, as well as a saucer plate and small glass. There was steam coming out of the pot that Akari was carrying, as well as a string dangling out from under the closed lid. She walked back to the table that Hayate was sitting at, sitting down across from him. She placed the pot on the table, the saucer down as well and then placed the cup on the plate. Taking the pot, she tilted it, pouring out tea into the cup and then pushed the plate and cup towards Hayate.

Drink it. It'll make you feel better.

Akari couldnt count how many times she had said that. This wasnt the first time Hayate showed up in the fortress under the influence. It wouldnt be the last most likely either. Though, Mirisaki still insisted in taking care of him. Akari questioned it before, but eventually she came to accept it, that this was just how things were. Even then, she wouldnt want to be anywhere else than where she was now.
