BACKSTORY
Viktor Gellian was born into a family of modest means in the Empire's capital, growing up amidst the grandeur of the Emperor’s rule. From a young age, he displayed a natural aptitude for combat and discipline, quickly rising through the ranks of the Imperial Guard. By his early 20s, Viktor was already recognized as a prodigy with the staff, combining unparalleled skill with unwavering loyalty to the Empire.
In his mid-20s, Viktor married his childhood sweetheart, a kind and intelligent woman named Anya. Together, they had two children, and for a time, Viktor’s life seemed perfect. He balanced his military duties with his role as a husband and father, finding joy and purpose in both. However, tragedy struck when his family was killed during a raid on a supply convoy resupplying one of the empires War fronts. The loss shattered Viktor’s heart, leaving him a hollow shell of the man he once was.
The death of his family sent Viktor into a spiral of grief and rage that defined the next two decades of his life. From his late 20s to his late 40s, Viktor became a man consumed by his hatred for rebellion and disloyalty. Anyone who dared speak out against the Empire, no matter how minor their dissent, was met with swift and brutal punishment. He personally led purges in villages suspected of harboring rebels, ensuring that not even a whisper of insurrection would go unanswered.
During this time, Viktor’s once measured and disciplined approach to combat was replaced with a relentless brutality. His staff, once a tool of precise strikes and counters, became a weapon of overwhelming force, breaking bones and morale in equal measure. Stories of his ruthless efficiency spread throughout the Empire, earning him both fear and admiration.
Amid the chaos and destruction of his crusade against rebellion, Viktor came to what he believed was a revelation, as if the gods themselves had whispered into his ear. The way to end all wars, to bring peace and stability to the land, was simple: all must follow the Emperor’s will. It was only through unwavering obedience to the Emperor that conflict could be eradicated.
To Viktor, this was not merely a strategy but a divine truth. Rebellion, insurrection, and even dissent were nothing but obstacles to this vision of a unified and peaceful Empire. Those who refused to serve were not just enemies of the state; they were enemies of peace itself. He saw himself as the Emperor’s chosen instrument, wielding justice with an iron fist to crush anyone who stood in the way of this divine order.
This conviction fueled Viktor’s ruthlessness during his campaigns. His faith in this "divine mission" allowed him to justify every atrocity he committed. Civilians caught in the crossfire, villages razed to the ground, and even former allies who faltered—all were necessary sacrifices in his pursuit of absolute order.
At the age of 50, Viktor was offered a rare opportunity: the chance to wield Eternal Hour - Tempus, a newly discovered Teigu. Though reluctant to accept it at first, Viktor realized that age was beginning to take its toll on his body, and the Teigu offered him a means to continue serving at the highest level.
The Teigu granted Viktor the ability to manipulate time, enhancing his reflexes and speed to supernatural levels. With it, he could anticipate and counter attacks with precision that seemed almost preternatural. However, the gift came with a price. The Teigu accelerated Viktor’s aging, taking days from his life for every use.
Over the next five years, Viktor’s reputation grew to near-mythic proportions. His enemies spoke of him as a phantom, moving faster than the eye could see, while his allies revered him as an unshakable force on the battlefield. By 58, the toll of the Teigu had aged his body to that of a man in his late 60's, but his mind and spirit remained as sharp as ever.
At 58, Viktor remains a cornerstone of the Imperial Guard. Despite his aged appearance, he is as fearsome as ever, his Teigu ensuring he can still perform his duties with terrifying efficiency. Among the lower ranks, he is both feared and respected, known for his harsh discipline and unrelenting standards. However, to those who know him well, Viktor is a surprisingly jovial and kind man, who values loyalty above all else. For him, the Emperor’s will is absolute, and he will stop at nothing to see it realized.
Personality
Viktor is a man of contradictions. On the surface, he exudes the persona of a strict, no-nonsense leader. He is highly disciplined and expects the same from those under his command. His approach to leadership is straightforward: it’s about order, structure, and unwavering loyalty to the Empire. He has little patience for failure and no tolerance for disobedience, instilling fear in lower-ranking soldiers who recognize his ruthless efficiency. He often leads training sessions himself, both to maintain his own combat skills and to keep his subordinates in line, though some say it’s more about avoiding the tedious paperwork that comes with his role.
Despite his strict demeanor with subordinates, those who are close to him know that Viktor has a sense of humor, albeit one that’s often dry and blunt. These moments of lightness, however, are fleeting. In his heart, Viktor is lonely, burdened by the weight of the role he’s taken on and the sacrifices he’s made along the way. Viktor's jovial and talkative nature, especially around those he considers close, is his way of hiding the loneliness that has come with his ascent in the Empire. He surrounds himself with others, whether they be soldiers or high-ranking officers, in an attempt to fill the emptiness left by the loss of his family and his own humanity. His rambling speeches often serve as a distraction from his growing isolation, a way to avoid confronting the true cost of his choices.
The loss of his family in his prime turned Viktor into someone who believes that the harshest measures are the only way to ensure peace. The death of his children especially hardened him, turning his heart into a fortress. He no longer feels the pang of grief as others might, as the pain has been buried deep under layers of duty and obligation.
Viktor is consumed by the belief that total obedience to the Emperor is the only path to peace and stability. To him, all rebellion and war are the result of people failing to accept this singular truth. He sees himself as a divine instrument—chosen to deliver peace through control and unwavering loyalty to the Empire. His belief in the Emperor's will is absolute, and he has fully embraced the idea that all those who oppose it must be crushed without mercy. To Viktor, the idea of "peace" is not one of harmony, but of absolute, unyielding order. The Emperor’s will is the law, and anyone who refuses to follow it must be eliminated.
Despite this rigid belief, there are moments of doubt. He can feel the weight of the years, both from the physical toll the Teigu has taken on his body and the psychological toll of his actions. As his body ages prematurely, Viktor finds himself slowing down, a reminder that even the strongest forces can be undone by time. This reality leads to internal conflict: while his mind is as sharp as ever, he can feel the loss of his physical power and stamina. He is no longer the man who once wielded his staff with unmatched skill. The Teigu, though a means to prolong his usefulness, only accelerates his aging, and Viktor wonders at times if he is becoming a tool, a mere weapon of the Empire rather than a man with his own will.
Though he remains a force to be reckoned with, Viktor’s internal conflict manifests in brief moments of reflection, where he questions whether he has become a slave to his own power and obsession with duty. Deep down, he fears that his desire for peace—his belief that crushing all dissent will bring stability—may have blinded him to the true costs of his actions. He doesn't often allow himself to dwell on these feelings, but when he does, there’s a flicker of doubt that keeps him up at night.
In combat, Viktor is an unstoppable force, not because of his speed or strength, but because of his singular focus. He is relentless in battle, using every ounce of his remaining vitality to crush his enemies. There is no room for hesitation, no space for second-guessing. He fights as if there is no tomorrow, because, to him, the future is nothing more than a series of victories or defeats in service of the Emperor.
Fighting Style
Viktor’s combat style blends the fluidity of Bartitsu, a martial art with emphasis on both armed and unarmed combat, with the precision of his cane fighting. His Teigu, Eternal Hour - Tempus, amplifies his skill and speed, allowing him to execute strikes and parries with the speed and agility of a much younger man despite his physical aging. In battle, Viktor remains calm and measured, using his cane as both a staff and a weapon, employing a mix of strikes, sweeps, and thrusts to disarm and incapacitate his enemies. His movements are graceful, yet deadly, combining the principles of Bartitsu's close-quarters fighting with the extended reach of his cane. While Viktor can engage in prolonged combat, he excels in controlling the flow of battle. His tactical mind is always at work, analyzing the battlefield and adapting his style to exploit the enemy's weaknesses. His Teigu allows him to speed up or slow down time within a localized bubble, making his attacks seem even more sudden and unpredictable to his foes.
Skills and Talents
Master of Cane Fighting & Bartitsu: Viktor’s background in Bartitsu gives him an eclectic fighting style that incorporates both hand-to-hand techniques and the use of his cane as a staff or striking weapon. He can engage in close combat, trapping limbs, delivering quick jabs, and using leverage to subdue opponents, while also utilizing his cane for defensive maneuvers and as a weapon of surprise.
Tactical Genius: As a General and Guard Commander, Viktor’s battlefield tactics are almost legendary. He excels at manipulating the environment and terrain to his advantage, using well-thought-out strategies to outmaneuver enemies, even in the most complex situations.
Leadership & Intimidation: Viktor is an intimidating presence both on and off the battlefield. While he can be jovial and talkative in informal settings, he commands absolute respect in his role as Commander, with a reputation that precedes him. His leadership is built on a foundation of strength, discipline, and unrelenting force, but he can also inspire loyalty through respect for his experience and wisdom.
Psychological Warfare: Viktor has a natural ability to read people and break their morale. He uses fear and psychological pressure to demoralize his enemies and maintain control of his forces. His very presence on the battlefield is enough to make many of his enemies hesitate.
Experienced Combatant: Viktor’s years of service in the Imperial Guard have honed his instincts and combat reflexes. He can assess an opponent’s strengths and weaknesses quickly, finding ways to exploit vulnerabilities with minimal effort. His ability to react and adapt in the heat of battle is unmatched.
Equipment
Signature Cane: Viktor’s cane is a deceptively simple weapon. While it doesn't hold the powers of a Teigu, it is carefully crafted to resemble a normal walking cane, with a stopwatch embedded in the top, creating the illusion that it might be the source of his Teigu powers. The cane serves multiple purposes: as a weapon for close combat, a tool for defense, and a subtle means of distraction. Viktor can use it to strike at his enemies with quick, precise jabs, swings, or sweeping motions, and its unassuming appearance helps him catch opponents off guard. The cane can also extend to form a longer staff when needed, giving Viktor more reach and making him more versatile in combat.
Imperial Guard Armor: Viktor's armor reflects his rank and experience within the Imperial Guard. It’s less elaborate than that of some of his subordinates but provides him with the essential mobility and protection he needs. Made of durable but lightweight materials, the armor allows him to move fluidly and react quickly in combat. The design is sleek, adorned with Imperial symbols to signify his status, but it's built to be practical, with no unnecessary embellishments. His uniform also has hidden compartments, one of which holds the pocket watch, ensuring that the Teigu remains concealed and out of sight.
Teigu
"Eternal Hour - Tempus"
Viktor's Teigu, takes the form of an unassuming pocket watch that grants him control over the flow of time. It allows him to manipulate his own perception of time, enhancing his reflexes and precision without altering the world around him. He can also accelerate his movements to overwhelming speeds, create afterimages to confuse opponents, and even distort time within a localized bubble, disorienting enemies while strategically adjusting his own pace.
Abilities
-Perception Shift:
When activated, Viktor slows his perception of time, allowing him to see everything around him in slow motion. This enables him to react with extraordinary precision, as he can easily analyze and anticipate the movements of his enemies. His actions appear lightning-fast to others, but within his own perception, everything is slowed down, allowing him to avoid attacks, dodge with ease, and counter with incredible accuracy. This ability doesn't increase his physical speed but gives him the advantage of processing the battlefield in a way that makes him seem faster and more aware than his opponents.
-Accelerated Time: Viktor can speed up time around himself for a short period, greatly enhancing his personal speed and reaction time. This makes him significantly faster and more agile, allowing him to overwhelm opponents with rapid, precise attacks. While this ability does not increase his raw strength, the increased speed of his movements makes his strikes hit with greater force, as the speed at which he delivers them amplifies their impact. However, each use of Accelerated Time accelerates Viktor’s aging process, causing him to age faster with each activation.
-Quick Recovery: Viktor can rewind his own body’s time to restore themselves to a state where they were uninjured or less fatigued. This takes time to do and the user cannot move for several seconds while it take place.
-Temporal Afterimage:
An advanced version of Accelerated Time, Viktor can create multiple afterimages of himself while using Time Distortion. These afterimages move in perfect synchronization with him, creating the illusion that he is in several places at once. This confuses and disorients enemies, making it extremely difficult for them to predict his movements or land a hit. While Viktor remains in one location, the afterimages serve as deceptive decoys, overwhelming opponents with the illusion of constant motion and unpredictability.
-Temporal Bubble:
Viktor can activate a Temporal Bubble around him, distorting the flow of time within a localized area. This bubble can either speed up or slow down time, affecting everyone within its range, including Viktor himself. When the bubble slows time, Viktor is also slowed down, which can make him appear more sluggish than usual. However, he can still use Accelerated Time to speed himself up, though it won't be as fast as if he were unaffected by the bubble’s distortion.
The key advantage of Temporal Bubble lies in Viktor’s ability to control the shift in time. He can alternate between speeding up or slowing down time at will, creating unpredictable changes in the flow of battle. While his enemies struggle to adjust, Viktor is able to anticipate and adapt to the shifts, making it nearly impossible for opponents to predict when the tempo of the battle will change, giving him a strategic edge.
Trump Card(s)
-Reversal of Fate:
Viktor taps into the immense power of his Teigu to briefly manipulate the flow of time, rewinding a specific moment in battle to undo a mistake, misstep, or lost opportunity. By rewinding time for a few seconds, Viktor can take a different course of action, correcting errors in real-time. However, the cost is immense: each second of time rewind consumes two month of Viktor's remaining lifespan, accelerating his aging further. While this ability provides an invaluable edge in critical moments, the consequences of overuse are severe, shortening his life at a catastrophic rate. Once this ability is used it leaves Viktor exhausted he has so far only been able to use it twice in a row for a total of 20 seconds before it left him near passing out, needing to retreat to rest.
