Futuristic Agent of Maniacles - Characters

Name: Carsmosa ‘Clown’ Geofferies

Age: 20

Sex: Female

Skills: Flight, Aerial Scouting, DPS, Survival

Weapon: Blast Gun

Ability: Convert raw energy to ammo

Backstory:

(I had a lengthy back story and then google docs crashed on me..)

An orphan who had escaped the clutches of the foster care system at a younger age. Carsmosa was crossing into the nearest town when a fatal energy based factory explosion left almost everyone in the immediate vicinity dead or about to be.

While not as close as the factory workers, the then 9 year old was found in a comatose state. Bulleted (her world’s equivalent to medical rushing) to the nearest medical facility, doctors and scientists huddled around, pondering about the spinal nerve damage case that sat before them. Allowing the person to just simply hurl herself around in a wheelchair was far too below them for their time and simply allowing her to die from comatose was absolutely off the table.

Because of the rapid technological advancements, repairing damaged bone and muscle was not only a cinch, but also underway while they debated. In terms of debate, as of late, there have also been proceedings whether or not human experimentation to achieve aviation was both ethical and possible.

“We can always check” A scientist proposed, peering into the window that led into the operation area. “This kid doesn’t have any relatives attached and didn’t have a number to contact on her. Therefore, no consent forms need to be filled and she would be under our supervision.”

The group split into murmurs of both agreement and disgust.

“Not to mention,” another began, “if we can merge the spinal cord into, say, mechanical wings, and restart the nerve endings using reversed engineered tuban, we might be able to resolve two issues within the same operation. Steroids would be issued to jumpstart the process. Her body will be not only recovered, but enhanced in no time.”

That was all the group of experts had to know to be onboard: Progressing in the name of medical advancements. Within a few weeks, Carsmosa was kept in a comatose state under medical supervision. During her times of vegetation, she was administered a concoction of steroids and reverse engineered tuban to have her body adjust to the chemical’. In addition, samples of her DNA were extracted to better fit the creation to her organic body.

By the fifth week, her body was underway to implant a newly developed mechanically designed set of wings. The minor pulses of electricity were biochemically designed to imitate the pulsates of nerve endings with hopes to reinstate the function.

Clown’s relationship to the Maniacles

Very little information was presented to the orphan. She was ‘still very young’ after all and she ‘wouldn’t understand’. Still, all she was instructed to do was to:

  1. keep her body in top shape for the rest of her life (the wings wouldn’t support any weight heavier than her current one).
  2. Administer via needles the medication given (more of the steroids & tuban)
  3. Every once and a while, to clean out the mechanics with a blunt.

Carsmosa demanded answers about what had happened, but was essentially brushed off each time. As soon as she was physically ready, the young child (at the time) was discharged from the facility and left outside with a newfound wave of agitation, hostility and impulsiveness. After taking her energy out on some nearby parked vehicles and some passerbyers, Carsmosa took off with the intent to hide long enough to figure out what the hell had happened.

There, she was met with two strange men. One who claimed to have taken note of the pent up energy and the other who offered to take the three for a meal. She was then told that this type of experience wasn’t new for them. If left unchecked, this energy could rampant into something far more dangerous and leave her at the mercy of the heroes. Fortunately, they were apart of her solution. But first, one of the men conditioned, she would have to make a deal. If they helped her control her urges, she would have to unconditionally vow to join an organization known as the Maniacles.

Extras:

  • Carsmosa later went by the alias ‘Clown’ to both mock and accept her naive younger self
  • Due to the chemical combination in her body, Clown claims to constantly be in a state of manic- energy threatening to jump out of her skin
  • The ‘men’ granted her a canon-type gun that allows her to transfer her energy into the weapon as ammo. This also drains her physical state.
  • While she is incredibly grateful to the maniacles for taking her in, Clown still holds resentment towards those around her.

Accepted but (and this is for everyone god damnit) its not "the Maniacles." Its "Maniacles Corporation."

Name: Jessie James
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Appearance:
383af02193f2be0a87846c2ffb027577.jpg
Skills: Languages, the Occult, Understanding of Magicks
Magic type:
Celestial Seals- By drawing and then breaking the seal of a constellation, Jessie is able to channel aspects of that constellation. For example, the Seal of the Hydra would give her regeneration, or the Seal of Heracles would give her enhances physical strength. While she can maintain a fair amount of seals at once, they drain on her mana, limiting how long she can maintain a seal. She carries a little booklet of seals for reference.
Enchantment- Using her knowledge of languages and magic in general that she's gathered in her efforts to be rid of the spirits that drain her dry, she's learned to use magic to give objects magical properties. The greatest example of this would be her signature weapon, the Handle.
Equipment:
Ghost Vision- Perhaps more of a curse she was born with than anything else (Which is why it's not in Magic), but Jessie has the ability to see restless spirits, and in turn they not only see her, but feed on her. This causes her eyes to glow and drains her energy. The brighter her eyes glow, the more ghosts are around her. Most of the time this renders her emotionless. She doesn’t have the energy to care, for the most part. Other times she needs to drink her weight in caffeine just to stay conscious. She cannot command the spirits, unless they've been jarred, but she can communicate with them.
The Handle- Exactly what it sounds like. Sort of. It is enchanted so that it can become any solid melee weapon, from a club, to a sword, dagger, scythe. If it has a lot of moving parts, like a flail, then it cannot successfully pull off the transformation. Whatever the weapon is made of, such as a steel sword, the business end of the weapon will be that material. While the Handle and its forms are relatively light in proportion to their forms in Jessie's hands, in other people's hands they weigh as much as if they were holding a normal weapon. When not active, it takes the form of an ornate handle that clips to her belt.
Folding Bow- A compact folding bow. Like the Handle, it clips to her belt across her lower back. Also like the Handle, it is enchanted so that it fires arrows made of magic, rather than arrows from a quiver, although it can fire both. If it fires a physical arrow, then the arrow hits with more force than it would from a normal bow. If it fires a magic arrow, then instead, after impact, the arrow vanishes.
Caffeine Tablets- Amount? Yes.
Capture Jar- An attempt to contain her parasites, since repelling them is impossible for her. Any spirit contained within the jar for a certain period of time becomes warped in their thoughts, and Jessie's will becomes their own. Spirits captured in this way are effectively bound to Jessie. Primarily to conceal her from other spirits, but sometimes also for other means. Spirits controlled in this way glow blue, and do not make her eyes glow. Seals Book- A little notebook of celestial seals. Jessie's reference in case she forgets what a specific seal looks like.
Backstory: Jessie had a rough childhood. As a baby, she never cried, barely ate, and rarely slept. The only indication she was even alive was that she was breathing and her eyes glowed. The best that doctors and nurses could come up with was that her eyes were very reflective, but couldn't explain why she didn't eat, sleep, or cry. Unsatisfied, her parents took her to several other doctors and got similar explanations.
Eventually, they took her to a priest, who blessed her and wished her well, his report later leading to an attempt at an exorcism. It seemed the exorcism succeeded, for a while. She ate, slept, and cried like other babies, she didn't glow. It lasted about a month, and then it started again. Her parents tried other prayers and rituals, before eventually visiting a voodoo shop. There, they learned that Jessie was born with the ability to see spirits as though they were the living walking around, but this came at the cost of the spirits seeing her as a source of energy. She was a bright neon sign that said "Free buffet" to the incorporeal. Jessie didn't neccesarily see it as a bad thing, once she was old enough to understand. She knew nothing else. But as she reached school age, she found herself a social outcast. She just couldn't make friends, no one wants to hang out with the girl that doesn't react to anything. Kids would hit her, and she wouldn't flinch. Shout at her, call her names, and otherwise abuse her, and not a tear shed. She just didn't have the energy to physically react. This social abuse is what led her to hate her parasites. She wanted to be rid of them, to be able to feel and fit in. Being unable to sleep despite being perpetually exhausted had a perk: she had plenty of time to research. Initially, Jessie's intent was to just get rid of the spirits. Find some way to block them or drive them off. Initially, she succeeded. And then failed. It turns out, that when you drive off the weaker spirits, the stronger ones see an opportunity and latch on for the ride. Her research led her to magics claiming to be able to control spirits, and she even theorized that they were attracted to her mana, which is why she learned and practices a form of magic which Jessie's extensive research into the occult for the specific reason of getting rid of her spirits is what got her as a person of interest for the Maniacles Corporation. Someone who was that in-depth researching how to deal with such things would likely eventually come to use them against others. She was interrogated, but the lack of evidence of conspiracy combined with the sheer number of spirits feeding on her, detected by field agent Denton Fisher while he was visiting the building to file a report, made her less of a suspect and more of a person of interest. She was hired as a secretary so the corporation could keep an eye on and influence over her in case such a possibility of her going rogue with her magical abilities occured. After the former paranormal specialist of squad 37, Field Agent Fisher himself, had his brain scrambled and was no longer a functional agent, Jessie was employed in his stead to serve the role of reconnaissance due to her own similar ability to deal with ghosts.
