Like is there a limit to what we can make an ascension roll for and how often?

at this moment in time, not really. You can Do A LOT with it, but doing too much too soon can see some unsavory affects... How often you use it depends on.... how often you use it. Strange as it sounds but there's no inherent limit to how often you can use this power, but again using it too often can be bad... Think of it like a muscle, train it to make it stronger, but you can overtax yourself if you push too hard.

And no, you don't make an ascended roll for this perception check. Though you can use it to influence it.

This is why I generally use the “or take the ‘average’“ option.

but in this game’s case, TyranntX would you be opposed to allowing players to roll and then take the ”average“ option if the roll is BELOW half?

(I‘m about to update Hopsek and roll con in the next little bit)
