Act 1 Scene 3 - Reunions [Broken Memories]

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Well, there are the two tonfa Simon picked up. Making him the person least likely to be arrested for weapon possession at the moment aside from Freddy.

doh sorry...

Balancing the knives in her hands, Katherine twisted her hands just so as if tucking the weapons into her sleeves... and they were nowhere to be seen. "More trouble than it is worth? What sort of trouble is associated with it?

OOC - This charm will be showing up when I'm done updating Kitty's character sheet. Activating "Many Pockets Meditation" committing 2 motes to hide a pair of perfect knives (daggers, really) into elsewhere. The charm is located on page 191 of the Lunar's book.

"Just the fact that it's John's stick and people have found out that I have it. Its best that it moves on with you. Plus I have a feeling John wasn't intending on being away for so long, but then again you can never tell with him."

"Sounds like a bit of a hunting expedition to me. Good, I really want to get out of here and wander for a while. Out of the city would be better though."

"Why would the stick itself interest people?" Simon asked warily, walking back to where it's been mounted on the wall. "Doesn't seem all that unusual as far as I can see. Doesn't even have any writing or the like on it." He taps the stick lightly with one of the tonfas he picked up earlier a few times to see if it was normal wood.

Simon's tonfa stops about 2 inches away from the stick and feels like he just hit something VERY solid.

"And its the fact that it's John's stick and that is what interests people." Dave walks over and slides the stick out of its stand, before holding it out to Simon.

edited - teach me for posting just after I got out of bed and hadn't woken up yet ;)

Blinking at the way the tonfa rebounded off of thin air, Simon gave a more seriously appraising look at the stick. "Interesting."

For a moment, he tried to find a place to slip the tonfas into his coat, but there were no appropriately deep pockets or loops on the inside for him to do so. Mentally shrugging for the moment, he just transferred both to under one arm as he continued looking at the stick.

"Some sort of 'test', then? I don't suppose you know what kind of criteria are being looked for?" he asked, but quickly shook his head. "No, forget it. Just so long as there aren't any nasty surprises for those that aren't chosen, I've give it a shot."

He reached out to try and hold the offered stick.

need to get loops/straps/whatever sewn into the inside of my coat to hold and hide the tonfas.

also... your Dave's words in your last post didn't parse all that well, Nob.

Simon can take the offered stick the barrier seems to have disappeared, sometime between Dave picking it up and offering it to Simon. The stick itself is light about five foot in length and about two to three inches in diameter. Its plain, unadorned and in Simon's hands it feels weighted strangely for a stick, about a foot from one end. The wood itself feels very hard and it has no markings, scratches or indentations on it, just as if it had been carved into shape, sanded and polished a few hours ago.

--------------------

any futher information will need an investigation roll.

Simon tilts the stick back and forth for a moment as he puts the tonfas down on the nearest table. No longer having to worry about dropping them, he focuses on the stick itself.

The Night Caste raps on the wood with his knuckles up and down the object, seeing what he can determine of its solidity and texture. Finding the balance point, which would be off-center due to the weighted end, he balances it in his palm while he sights along the length. With the surface being virtually unblemished, anything obviously out of the ordinary would have to be within the stick's core. Not necessarily something that could be removed for viewing (though that would make things much easier in regard to his examination), but even so...

Frowning for a moment, he spun the stick around several times in one hand, before smacking the weighted end of the stick into one hand. He then reversed the motion, and spun it in the opposite direction and stopping it with the palm of his free hand again. Shifting his grip to the head of the stick, he tapped the other tip against the floor twice. Lifting it back up, he looked it up and down once more.

A normal stick in appearance, perhaps, but just the earlier example of a 'barrier' around it proved that it wasn't just that. Whether Simon could figure it out, through deduction or what odd knowledge of the mystical he had somehow developed since that morning... that was the question.

Pretty much doing everything aside from going into a MA kata with the thing... which he could, seeing as I think properly made sticks are considered MA weapons :)

Once I get any stint dice, I'll be making the investigation roll using the 1st Excellency.

2dice stunt and see additional ruling on stunt dice in the background thread..

09-11 15:08:47 Simon rolls 16 dice to Stick of Power! Or not? 5 successes

4,2,7,2,5, 6,9,5,8,6, 7,8,3,2,5, 1

Would have liked a better result with that dice pool, but still... 5 suxx.

As Simon taps along the length of the stick its feels just as solid all along. As he looks closely at where the stick is weighted, he thinks he sees a difference, a point exactly at the balance point of the stick. Its the grain that draws Simon's eyes there seems that it just doesn't look correct. Running a thumb over this point seems to heighten his feeling, the weighted end of the staff then moves away from the rest of the stick. In the very small gap that is revealed Simon sees a glint of metal.

Grasping the weighted end of the sitck, Simon draws out a thin metal blade, about three and a half foot in length, it is double bladed and perfectly weighted, feels like a perfect extension of Simon's hand. It almost feels like it moves where Simon wants it even before he thinks. The rest of the stick feels just as balanced even though the weight of the sword has been removed.

"Now that is a fine trick, and an even finer blade. Whoever made it knows their stuff and I would like to meet them." He marveled at the simplicity and beauty of the weapon.

Dave smiles as Simon unsheathes the sword. "Was saving that as a suprise, but you are pretty observant aren't you. Careful with the blade it's a little sharp."

Kitty

"It does look pretty sharp," Katherine observed with an appreciative whistle. "Anyone taken a look at the metal of that blade to see what makes it do that?"

"You are the first apart for John to unsheath it and I'm not sure if he ever examined the blade."

Simon tilts the blade one was and other, watching the light gleaming off the metal. Slowly, he begins walking away from the others to a clear spot in the room, still looking at the reflecting light.

Once clear of the others, the Night Caste begins slowly waving the blade in the air, his body seeming to move without him directing it, and his eyes slightly glazed over when he turns that the other can see them. He begins to speed up, spinning in place as if pretending to be cutting at something.

As he continues to accelerate, however, the blade begins to wobble in it's path, coming almost dangerously close to the nearest objects and people. With the close calls, he suddenly stops his movements and slides the blade back into the sheath of the stick.

Once the sword is fully sheathed... Simon staggers to the side, clutching his head. "Oh... gods... Ow, ow, shit, ow... Damn headtrip..."

Stunned by the fearsome display, Freddy stands slackjawed while the blade comes within centimeters of his throat. Without moving, he finally blinks. "Y'know, if you discovered this 20 minutes ago, you could have saved me the shave..."

The Night Caste snorted derisively at Freddy's quip. With one hand still holding his head, Simon straightened up and looked down at the sheathed sword in his other hand.

"Damn thing cuts the air weird. It's sharp, no doubt about it, but you could lop off a few limbs getting used to it if you aren't careful..."

He put it down on the ground like the walking stick it was made to look like. "Might need to take care of how recognizable it might be later, but I think I'll look after it."

Kitty

Stretching, Katherine didn't quite seem to match the image on her card... weather it is the card being inaccurate and the picture being a horribly done one or her appearance was gradually shifting is best left as a mental exercise. "So... I guess we shall go forth into the wilderness to hunt down someone with more knowledge?"

"Ok the easiest people to help you out of the city are Sinastra Black or Brian Close. Sinastra can be found in the Coconut Tree Cafe in Sector 5 and Brian can be found in the Hospital."

Dave walks over to one of his many cupboards and opens it, inside there are a number of bundled sleeping bags.

"Now its late and I want some sleep before the morning, sleep here if you want, but if you snore you'll be out the door." He wanders over to the only bed in the living area and flops down on it, putting his hands behind his head and closing his eyes.

Freddy takes a look out the window and is astounded that the day had passes so quickly. He quickly goes about setting up his sleeping bag and stares up at the ceiling, wondering about an uncertain future and ultimately dreaming about the stars.

Fin

He wandered closer to the door and once he seemed satisfied with whatever it was he was looking for his form shifted back to his Omen Dog form. He then laid down and curled up slight in on himself. He was their watchdog for the night.

Kitty

While no one was looking, Katherine had disappeared... while a cat could be seen settling down on a chair.
