At a young age, Yugo wasn't paid much attention to, as being the middle child to eight female siblings. Born under two mothers, he was alone as the only male in the family, and had to act his gender and age. He was scarred by the murder of his youngest sibling, Maria, which happened right in front of him. What scarred him more was the own murder he committed seconds after.
He killed Maria's murderer by sinking his teeth into their neck and ripping off the skin, something no stable human would ever do.
To this day, only the very closest of his family knows.

From the very start, Tatum was an inconvenience to her mother. As part of a five-year plan, Margaret had scheduled out time to have her very first child (having established herself already as a thriving entrepreneur, and made more than enough money to comfortably support herself during her time away from work). That child was Chandler, a beautiful baby girl born roughly thirty minutes prior to Tatum's unexpected arrival.

Being born the 'spare' took it's toll. Even in childhood, Tate felt like an imposter in her own home-- she never displayed any of the drive and determination of her mother, unlike Chandler, who seemed to blossom under pressure and excelled in everything she set her mind to. Since there was no academic validation in Tate's immediate view (though admittedly, she rarely tried) she set her sights on new ways to get attention.

Like causing a scene at a launch party, for example. Experimenting with drugs. Running away for days on end, and only coming back when she was sure the police must be involved. By Tate's teenage years, Margaret's success had put her and her family well and truly in the public eye, and she lived for it. Scandal after scandal, she made something of a name for herself in the tabloids, getting all the attention she craved while alienating herself from the very people she'd been seeking it from in the first place.

Margaret, a cold woman but not a heartless one, tried to help Tate find the right path. She wrangled her into a rehabilitation centre and, when she was discharged, presented her with a slyly-won place at a college in the city. Things were looking up, and there was no reason for Tate to ruin it this time. She was happy.

Until she was bored, of course, and ruined it all in one disastrously reckless evening. Unable to face her family and their disappointment, Tate did the only thing that made sense: in a feverish state of shame, she packed a suitcase and hit the road, left the city, and fled into the country. Now on her longest runaway mission to date, she's headed for a party.

Girls with nothing left to live for don't care if something seems sketchy.

  Blair is a thrill seeker. Whether it be holding her fingers above a lighter a little too closely, driving faster than she should or exploring abandoned places, Blair feels drawn to the things that make her heart beat a little faster in fear. The feeling of looking danger in the face and walking away alive has become addicting to her. She typically keeps to herself to maintain an aura of secrecy around others, a habit formed out of her lack of trust for other people. It’s hard to get the entire truth out of Blair, especially if she’s deemed that she doesn’t trust the person pestering her. She can be pushy with other people, daring them to do things that are dangerous or far out of their comfort zone. Her pushiness can get quite mean if the person is timid or chickens out. Blair will resort to deflective tactics if called out on this trait. She is a fun person to be around at events she feels are worth her time, as she’s always bringing out the wild side in other people. If someone manages to get through all of Blair’s defensive personality traits and becomes someone to consider a genuine, trusted friend, Blair reveals her insecurities and hidden sensitivity. It becomes apparent that she is running from something, and greatly cares about how her image appears to other people.

  Blair doesn’t open up about her past a lot. She typically never tells the same story about her family twice, coming up with variations and blatant lies to never let anyone know too much of the truth. Only a handful of people know the truth about her childhood, one of them being her older sister Anastasia, who is deceased. Her sister died when Blair was still in highschool in an accident. Blair refused to go out with her sister that night even after she begged, opting instead to stay in the comfort of her room. She often wonders if she had stomached her fear and ventured out with her sister that night, if she could have changed the outcome of anything. Although Rishi is a bright, energetic, and kind character, people tend to be put off by his obsessive nature and tendency to fixate on things. Rishi considers the end of his mother's life to be the beginning of his own. It sounds awful -- as he's often reminded by the horrified look on the face of whoever he's pitched this to -- but it's true. As a single mother, she struggled to care for herself, let alone her son; she passed when Rishi was eleven, and being what many would describe as a precocious child, he accepted her death as more of a relief on her behalf than a loss.

His neighbours, who had been looking in on him and his mother for some time, jumped at the chance to foster him. The Anthonys had two adopted children of their own already, good friends of Rishi's, and the arrangement was perfect. That's all there was to it: no ulterior motive, no horrible abuse to come. He was happy, and so were they. Rishi was fascinated by his new family, his father being a policeman and his mother a crime fiction author. He tended to alternate between the two in terms of who he tried to shadow most, but both gave him an insight into what would become his passion.

As well as exposing him to topics a child should never encounter. But that didn't bother him, not one bit. In fact, he relished in the opportunity to hear the grisly details of a new murder, fictional or not: he was mature enough, he supposed, so they trusted him.

Sometimes, he stalked crime scenes. Others, he spent hours on end scouring the internet for any scrap of information about the whereabouts of a cold case victim's next of kin. Once, he even got to be the one to make a call to the station and inform them there was a jogger's body in the woods behind the local park.

Morbid curiosity alienated him from his peers, but he didn't mind; his adoptive siblings were strange too, in their own ways, and they found companionship in one another. Til one vanished-- but that's a story for another time.

Naturally, when Rishi found the flyer, it was like a siren's call. An open house party, at a murder scene, on the anniversary of when said murder took place? It was too good to be true.
