Fantasy A Time of Myth - Mechanics

CloudyBlueDay

made up of opposites
There are two types of magic. Bloodline magic and Host magic.

Bloodline Magic is magic still from the earliest days of the Dark Ages. It never died out, because it is with you now, and has been passed on for many, many, many generations. If you are of Bloodline magic, you are probably very well educated, and very well trained. Although Bloodline magic is not as potent as Host magic, you have the understanding a Host nearly never has. You are also likely to be a part, or participate with the Mythias.

Children from Bloodline families often grow up in sheltered environments, studying day and night, and honing in their magic if possible. To be born from a Bloodline family without magic is a very devastating event. But technically, every member born from Bloodline has magic in them, it’s just a question of whether or not it is potent enough to actually be cast.

Host magic is very potent, and much more rare. There are only four members of the Mythias who are of Host magic, out of the hundreds. People with Host magics are more infused with the animal who first held the magic more than anything, and it is a part of why it is much harder to control. The three most common fantasy creatures of a host mage are the Phoenix, the Unicorn, and the Dragon.

The Phoenix are often able to engulf their body in flames and shed tears of healing. More experienced Phoenixes can using flame engulfed arms as wings, and many more fun perks.

The Dragons are able to fly and breath ice, poison, fire, and many other elements. With more experience, they are able to do more than just breathe the element, and harden their skin like scales.

The Unicorn are healers. While the Phoenix shed tears of healing, it can only heal smaller things, while the Unicorn can heal near anything. A more experienced unicorn can use magic of light for offense. The Unicorn can also sense purity and magic within someone and they also are often leaders of hunts for new Mythias members.

But Host mages aren’t limited to these three fantasy creatures. If you have an idea for one, I’d love to hear it, provided you talk to me about it before starting to make your char based around it.

Hair color and eye color is very important among people of magic.

A host's eye and hair color can change the longer they are with their host, in fact, some of the most powerful Hosts started out with the lowest classification of hair/eye color.

Brown eyes or brown hair - Obviously this person isn't magical.

Blonde hair - Normal amount of magic if any at all.

Black eyes or black hair - In some cases this can be just as bad as brown eyes and hair, but a rare case can be black hair is even more powerful then white, and a sign of dark magic.

Gold Eyes - A sign of incredibly potent magic. Much rarer than white, but seems to be the same level of power.

Bright colored hair [Red, Orange] - A sign of potent but unstable or rare magic.

Calm colored eyes [Green, Blue] - Often the sign of peaceful magics.

White hair or white eyes - The universal sign of powerful magic.

Q: How often is a child born from Bloodline family without potent magic?

A: It is a 45% chance for the child to have potent magic if it is a Bloodline mother and Father.

Q: What happens if a Host mage has a child?

A: The child will have no magic in them. Host magic is limited to purely the host.

Q: What happens if a Bloodline and a Host mage have a child?

A: They have a 25% chance of potent magic.

Q: Can you name some other fantasy creatures for Host mages that have been approved?

A: Some I can think off the top of my head would be Dryad, Faerie, Leprechaun, Nymph, Vampire, Werewolf, Mermaid, Gryphon, Harpy, Hydra, Banshee, and many many more.
