A Special Present

Ren whimpers and hangs his head the more Saphire scolds him. Sniffling and whining softly despite his best efforts to hold them back, tears peppering the ground and Saphire can plainly see the bonds around his feet and hands are completely soaked. Ren glances up at her, his eyes shimmering with tears and he slowly approaches her. Nuzzling her leg for a moment before he notices her favoring her stomach and he frowns, softly licking her tummy to try and help.

She managed to sigh slightly, convinced that he knew he'd done wrong, at least. So much for the walk, and she needed to get him shoes before she did more than this, so she started to limp back to the house, which was still close enough that she could make it, if she stopped every few minutes. "We're going back, Ren. I'll need to..." Ouch, still can't talk. "Warm your hands and feet." At least the burnt fish was eaten by the birds, so the two of them wouldn't have to worry about stepping in it...

Ren winces when she Saphire limps and bounds up beside her, pressing his head up into her hand to try and support her as he mewls softly. Once they were back inside Ren continues to help her to wherever she needs to go, his tail swishing softly as he blinks up at her. When they reached where they had put the bonds on his hands and feet, he rolls onto his back and sticks them in the air for her. Swishing her tail against her arms as she does so and he perks his ears up at her, wondering what they would do now.

Saphire, once they were in the spot, started to unwrap his feet, intending to get him a blanket or something to get him warm again. It was just one year, and he hadn't meant anything by it, so she couldn't remain angry for long... or rather, she had to force herself to not be too angry about it. Which was difficult. Once his feet were free she tried to get to a cabinet, in which she put blankets and whatnot, but had to stop mid-reach before continuing. Once two blankets were out she walked to the couch, expecting Ren to follow out of curiosity if nothing else, and placed one blanket next to her, wrapping herself in the other one.

Ren does indeed follow her curiously, purring and bounding after her and the very warm-looking blankies. Once she sits on the couch Ren hops up beside her and purrs as he wraps himself in the other blanket, nuzzling Saphire's side and closing his eyes peacefully. Purring against her and it causing her side to tingle, possibly tickling a bit as his tail swishes against her arm. A faint, odd, and loud buzzing sound capable of being heard.... a.. giant bee? No, definitely a helicopter! Ren perks his head up, looking around before drooping his ears and whimpering fear as he nuzzles against Saphire.

Saphire pet his head slightly, eyes narrowing at the sound of the helicopter. "Well, what do they want this time, ey?" She didn't budge, though she did keep an ear out for them opening the door, as she was certain the government would do if she didn't open it, scowling slightly. She hated people, and all of a sudden she would have more guests? What was that about?

As suspected, before long there is a loud bang on the door and silence follows. When Saphire inevitably answers it, a man in a suit with shades stands before her, hands clasped in front of him. "Hello... 'Saphire'... we wish to speak to you outside for a moment." he motions for her to go past, looking past her at Ren before adding "...ALONE." he closes the door behind her and once she stands outside she notices men rolling large crates of supplies and... extra crates and boxes she had never got before. "In light of your... agreed upon retirement we have seen fit to add the following prerequisite. YOU are to train this creature as your replacement in a year's time. Infiltration, Espionage, Combat, Linguistics, ALL of it. In the excess crates you will find exercise equipment, language documentaries and a variety of weapons for the thing to practice with. Are our instructions clear?"

She glared at him, "I'm clear on that you want me to make an innocent child into a killer. Again." How many times were they going to make her turn innocence on it's head? SERIOUSLY! "I get that you think raising someone gives you the right to mess with their head, turning them into a tool that has no thoughts of it's own. Does that count?" They couldn't DO THIS! She had a contract!

The man shows no reaction to her words, only nodding once she was done and the men put the crates outside her door. Before they all go back into the helicopter and he speaks again "Understood, your complaints are noted and considered very valuable, continue on with your assignment and your promised isolation will finally be yours." he puts a finger to his ear, listening for a moment before nodding "Understood." he turns and walks back to the helicopter, without another word to her and... then they were gone.

She let out one aggravated scream, before turning around and walking inside the building. They want me to train him as an agent? REALLY?! He can't even focus enough to not run me over! She let out a small breath, opening the door finally and walking in. "You want me to train a replacement? Fine. But I'm doing it my way. He'll be able to think for himself, allright. No doubt about that."

When Saphire walks back into the house, Ren sits in the floor, his ears drooped and his tail clutched nervously in his hands. His small fangs digging into his bottom lip as he sniffles and tears slowly run down his cheeks as he stares up at her. Shaking slightly and he was obviously very terrified when she screamed and by all the loud noise the helicopter made. He even looks a little pale, and it was a small wonder the poor thing hadn't been outright sobbing at all the terrifying, for him, things to happen in such a short amount of time.

Saphire, grumbling under her breath the whole time, walked back to where she had left Ren...only to stop when she saw him crying. Darnit... how was she supposed to... settling down next to him she just lifted one arm, looking to the side and muttering in a slightly resigned tone, "You're... it's ok, Ren." She'd make it ok, make sure that he could fight on his own... live on his own... and think for himself. So it'd have to be ok. Hopefully he'd just enter the hug, so she wouldn't feel more embarrassed than she already did!

Not only does Ren enter the hug, the poor kitten lunges into it, knocking Saphire onto her back as he now lays atop her. Hugging her tightly and burying his face into her neck as tears dribble onto her skin. This pounce, thankfully, not hard enough to add to the pain her stomach had been in, rather it was clumsy and seeking affection. His ears slowly perk up, his tail swishing slowly and encircling her ankle as his fingers softly dig into Saphire's back. "M-Mewwwwwr!" he whines sadly, looking up at her and sniffling.

Saphire, shocked by the intensity of the hug, had been frozen until he'd looked up at her. At which point she, ignoring how surprised she was, brought both arms around him, one soothingly rubbing his back and the other just holding him. "It will be ok, Ren. I'll make it ok." Somehow. She'd think about that as the date when he needed to be ready started approaching, because... he was most definitely not going to be able to learn anything, Agent-based or otherwise, until after he could talk. And he might never talk, so they might never need to do anything with him! MOre than that, this child was innocent, and didn't deserve to be a pawn in their games...

Ren begins to purr as she returns the hug, especially once she begins to rub his back and he arches said back a bit as his purring intensifies. Sniffling and nodding a little in response to her words, nuzzling her neck softly as his tears begin to slow before, finally, they stop and he the kitten tenses up against Saphire. His grip around her tightening and Ren pulls his head back as he looks up at her, his ears flattened sadly against his head and he slowly leans up, giving her cheek a soft, gentle lick, then another. Before pushing his head into the crook beneath her chin and nuzzles up into it as his tail sways while keeping hold of her ankle.

He just licked me. Right, half-cat... She would figure out the workings of him licking her later, after Ren calmed down. She continued to pet the cat, actually really glad that her stomach wasn't the part of her body being grabbed, and that she had time to let it calm down a bit. Though, obviously she had to calm down the cat-person, Neko? That's what they are called on the net. Though there was, apparently, only one in reality, as she'd never heard of him before.

Ren purrs so intensely that his body tingles from head to toe violently enough Saphire could easily feel it herself. The continued petting egging the purring on the more she did it and Ren eventually stops his nuzzling, yawning softly and gently licks beneath her chin. Going still except for the purring and within a few minutes, Ren was fast sleep, his arms now loosely draped around her neck and his tail slowly swishing back and forth against Saphire's leg. At this point the continuous purring continuing even should she stop the soft petting that started it all.

(( xD It's afternoon and she's still not had a moment alone, and the cat-kid is now sleeping on top of her!))

Saphire let out a small sigh, breathing into the cat without moving just yet. Her arms stopped moving, and her expression blanking out slightly. She had a sleeping cat on her. And somehow she seemed completely used to this happening. Saphire needed a new hobby... though she knew it wouldn't happen as long as she had this kid with her. Ah well, at least he wasn't making her hurt worse... actually, the purring felt kinda nice.

((Did you know that a cat's purring is actually healthy for both the cat and the human?))

(Hmm I did not, interesting. xP)

Ren stays like that for a long time, his chest rising and falling in soft, even breathes as he snores softly and his ears twitch occasionally against Saphire's chin as he nuzzles her neck gently and mews softly "Nyahh nyah nyaaaah!" he yawns and smacks his lips softly, his tail curling a bit as his hands gently grip her hair and he goes back to snoring, really not doing all that much except purring his hind-end off.

((Yep. It helps with bone-density and such.))

Saphire, holding the rapidly drooping arms of Ren, slowly closed her own eyes as well, leaning against the couch with an air of someone who is 'too-tired-to-care' as Ren's purring as starting to make her tired. Not in any dangerous way, it was just kinda soothing to hear and she started to fall asleep to it.

((And yes, you can skip to whenever if you want.

Around midnight, Ren slowly wakes up, stretching and mewing as his tail perches up in the air. Blinking up at Saphire before smiling and standing up with his hands on her shoulders and his knees on either side of her hips. Purring still even as he wakes up and his ears perk up inquisitively as he sniffs the air. An odd ripple of a shudder rocking his body and Ren tenses, his face turning red and he yowls very, VERY loudly. His tail frizzing ou and he scampers away from Saphire. Curling up in the corner and shaking softly.

Saphire woke to the sound of the yowling, rubbing her eyes slightly as she moved herself back into her seat. "What's wrong, Ren?" It was too early for this, honestly. Why was the cat yowling right now? It wasn't like anything was going on, and really she was having such a nice dream, though she wasn't sure what it was about... wait, now wasn't the time to think about her dream, but rather about waking herself up and figuring out...

Ren shakes like a leaf in the corner he had run to, a sudden, violent rumbling signalling the LOUD crash of thunder before it happens and Ren's small whimper can barely be heard beneath it. Rain beginning to pelt the roof and windows as Ren's ears lower and he begins to cry again, hugging his knees close to his chest and wincing at every clash of thunder as he does his best to curl into a ball into the corner.

The storm? This cat was scared of a STORM? deep breaths, Saphire, deep breaths. Once that was done she walked over to ren, speaking calmingly to him, "It's ok, Ren. We're safe inside the building." They might run out of power, but they were safe. It wasn't like they could hide from the thunder all day, night long. "Is it the sound?"

Ren nods at her question, wincing at the loud crash of thunder and it actually DID seem to cause him physical pain. As if on cue as well, everything goes dark and Ren lets out a loud sob, a sudden pressure indicating to Saphire he had indeed clung to her leg like a small child. His legs wrapped around her leg along with his arms, his cheek pressing against her thigh as he sat on her foot. Shaking so badly it make it hard for Saphire to stand correctly.
