The SI's read the books, right? That'd include Graceful Wicked Masques, right?

Picky nerd point here, sorry...

She said they start the whole "respect" thing when they're 12. Is that the writer forgetting that Creation years are longer, and that's actually about 15 by our reckoning (OK, still worrying (to a varying degree depending on your local age of consent), but not as bad), or is it Nathan forgetting that?

It's...

A little from column A, a little from column B.

Creation's years are longer, but I reckon that in Creation people generally live and develop at a slower rate, so that an age will have the same relevance.

So yes, I meant for M'yena to state that her people's tradition of sexual interaction generally started just before the onset of puberty (well, sexual development in a people who don't develop any pubes.)

Is that really so surprising? Our societies may think of such things as "Woah! What the fuck!" but historically that's not been the case. That's about the age when, for example, a Greek man would start sexual contact with his boy-toy. Arabs have a saying that "women are for making babies; boys are for loving." It's certainly not that abnormal in other oriental and asian cultures.

When I write, I write for-the-throat. I don't hold back punches at all - why should sex, or the sexual proclivities of alien cultures, get any softer handling than graphically cuting down a gigantic ape? Now, there's almost certainly not going to be any lolicon sexual activity wrote out in massive detail like happened between Nathan and M'yena, if for no other reason than that the Freedom Stone forums don't allow it and Flagg would moderate me so hard my head would pop off if I posted it here. In all honesty, Nathan would probably find it highly disturbing if he saw it in the flesh; as would I. It's one thing to fantasize and have a wank, it's quite another to actually see something.

Also... Huh *checked.* Looks like the AoC in my state is 16 for having sex with anyone of any older age. I thought it was 18. Regardless, I'm not taking Earth's laws as regards age of consent into consideration any more than, say, the laws against violence.

It always bugs me that people are so desensitized to violence that they don't mind seeing massive splashes of blood and decapitations and people getting blown the fuck away, but freak the fuck out over sex.

This = Chock full of win.

Thank you. :D

And, on to the story review/comments: I liked it, it was the good kind of sexy, not the insert tab A into slot B pseudo-sexy. To be perfectly honest, I'd've liked to see a smidge more plot in there than just going for the jugular on the sexy, but... it's sexy, it's cool. 8)

There were no glaring errors that I could pick out, though I'm still quite curious on how this is going to go from here, how will the group react to him exactly? How will their specific culture clash with his own? How much sexings is he gonna get? Will he be trapped by the fae/find out they're somehow connected to Lord Jay? (This would be amusing to me, but is only slightly viable). How is he going to find Nova (which I know is his short term goal in finding the Keychain Circle)? Etc. Etc.

Curiosity is a considerable part of my nature if you haven't already figured it out :D

Nathan doesn't seem as goal oriented or driven as a Solar is kinda expected to be, there is certainly the possibility that this could bite him in the ass.

Another thing that struck me just as I write this and the idly amusing idea of 'The adventures of Nathan and the various sexings he gets along the way' as an alternate (and unlikely) title... the idea that hit me was such: Not all sexings are good sexings. A potential plot point for you to throw at him is him getting dragged into sexings he doesn't entirely want.

Meh, mostly I just want to see this continued, 'cause i's gud. :D

They're not connected to Jaye, as to how much sex will happen, well... Expect the next one to be posted on TFS as well.

As for finding Nova... He has no fucking idea other than that if he shoots north by northwest (or maybe west by northwest) he should hit snowy mountains sooner or later, and he's hoping to interrogate people about tales of a land where gears clank and crank in the mountains and people are half-artifact.

To wit; he's gonna fucking wing it, owing to a lack of any better idea of how to proceed from here. :)

Currently his Motivation is "Go Home." Normally this is not an Epic enough motivation for a Solar, but when Going Home involves potentially opening barriers and seals which don't even hypothetically exist and finding a universe completely unlike the one one is trapped in, it becomes a suitably daunting task.

Of course, that Motivation might well change. He might even manage it and not like what he finds there.

You mean like, say, a certain Essence 6 Alchemical deciding she wants him to perform favors for her? Heh. :P We'll see.... We'll see.

When the Muse hits, I write. No telling if it'll be CrackZalted or Misfiled Dreams.

I'm just gonna descend from on high and deliver a general thumbs-up and encouragement to this story, since it seems I didn't do so earlier (thought I had). Thoroughly enjoyable.

Praise from The Man?

*faints*

OK, that's a rather well-thought-out attitude on the subject of human sexual activity. Thanks for clearing it up!

(Just for reference purposes, AoC here in Britainland is 16, too.)

Ok, so, I just happened across this thread this weekend, and I've got to say that I'm really enjoying the read. I've seen lots of fanfics where the author inserts him/herself into the setting and it sucks. This does not suck, in fact, it's quite the opposite of suck. So, I pop on over to the Freedom Stone to finish out the story, and well...THERE'S ONLY ONE CHAPTER?! WHAT THE FAIL SD?! And it's been almost a year since the last post!

I know it takes a huge amount to time to write stuff like this, but is there any chance of you continuing on with this story? I'd like to see how things turn out for your protagonist and the other characters. Quite a fun read. I hope you keep adding to it.

The thing is...

The muse is a fickle beast. When she pulls me in a direction, I must follow. Some of them are flashes-in-the-pan that don't get beyond ten pages, twenty pages, thirty pages and fade away. Some last longer. Some burn hot to the tune of 600 pages in about a month and a fortnight, and some sizzle to the tune of over a thousand pages over the course of about two years.

If you're hungry some more stuff I've wrote, try this on for size:

Bioluminescent Nights

and

Bioluminescent Dreams

It's my Avatar fanfiction. The only element that gets bent is the element of surprise, so I'm talking about ten-foot-tall blue alien catpeople, not magical elementalists.

Rats! I was afraid it'd be something like that, and I completely understand what you mean. I'm the same way. Oh well, c'est la vie.
I have some questions though, if you have the answers for them. The solar's body that Nathan inhabited, where did it come from? Was it a solar who got Fae nommed by Lord Jay thus making the hollowed out solar easy to insert another consciousness? What happened to M'yenna's brother? Did he die or did he actually pull through the attack the barbarians sprang on him like she hoped/thought? The trail of devastation through the forest Nathan left behind him while practicing with the Grand Daiklaive reminded me of the brawler guy from Ruroni Kenshin (sp?). "I'm not getting more powerful! I'm just destroying the forest!"

Ok, I'll do that. I loathed the movie but I felt there could be some interesting stories told in that setting. I'll give it a look see.

It's a shame that this great story won't continue (hopefully not forever!), but it must be said that you have a very powerful muse. I gotta thank L0rd_Dark0n for resurrecting this thread, else I never would have found it, and I am curious to the answers to his questions. Short as this was, it was a very fun read, so thanks for writing it ShadowDragon.

So, uh, how did that game from this thread go?

Do you really want to know? I don't.

What happened to M'yenna's brother? Did he die or did he actually pull through the attack the barbarians sprang on him like she hoped/thought?
I don't honestly remember. Probably survived, though. Too early to spring too much Wham.

Why does everyone blowhard about the movie? It wasn't bad, really. Predictable yes, but not bad.

Also, what'd you think of the story?

It's still going, in a form. Saturday Morning Exalted Modern. Magic comes to Earth, and the players were some of the first to be Chosen.

Yes! Of course I want to know! Backstory man, backstory! BUT knowing that you didn't have a backstory for that satisfies my curiosity.

Ah, ok. Apparently he was made of sterner stuff than regular mortals. I had hoped he survived.

Everyone? I honestly thought I was in the minority as far as not liking it. In fact, I'm the only person I know that didn't like it. I saw some other negative reviews on the Interwebs, but even those were in the minority.

ShadowDragon8685 said:

I agree that it was predictable. The girl's father stabbed through the chest by his beloved world-tree and all that  At that part, when the camera was slowly panning around playing the tragedy music and showing us the devastation wrought by us greedy evil humans, we see the girl's father, his back facing us. And I said in my best G.W. Bush impression "Take that! Heh heh heh, stabbed through the heart by a shard of your beloved world-tree, heh heh heh." The camera panned around to the father's front...and I was dead on right! I howled with laughter, pointed at him and said again, "TAKE THAT!" My over-the-top reaction was directly proportional to the over-the-top predictability of the movie and that scene in particular. That's just one example of the incredibly predictable nature of the movie.

But, further than that, my opinion was that it was terrible. I wanted the mortal time that I had spent watching the movie back. Three hours gone forever! :( For me, it was so bad that suspension of disbelief was never achieved. The movie looked gorgeous, but that was also part of my problem with it for me. The creatures, from an evolutionary standpoint, were all way too busy in design IMO based on what we were allowed to see them doing. However, some of them I had fought in earlier Final Fantasy games. :) The blue catpeople though, I thought they were cool looking. The military commander's scar kept changing size and location throughout the movie. Blarg!

Wait, which story? Your Solar fanfic one, your two Avatar fanfics, or James Cameron's Avatar a.k.a. Disney's Pocahontas, a.k.a. James Cameron's views of Conservatives in Space?

I thought your Exalted fanfic was great. Too much sexual stuff for my tastes, but at the same time, I thought you wrote those parts very well. It didn't seem trashy, cheap, or contrived. Nicely done. I haven't had a chance to read your two Avatar fanfics yet, but I want to because so far I enjoy your writing, and I would love to find a good story in the Avatar setting.

As we all know, when we communicate, we often unintentionally let our personal biases slip. James Cameron is far left in his political views, which is fine. But his story was his political stance in the form of a cudgel over the heads of his audience. Some of my left wing friends who enjoyed the movie thought this was a little over-the-top as well as I.

The military is...bad! Business people are...bad! See how bad they are? These kinds of people are always irredeemably bad! They blew up the world-tree they're so bad! Only scientists have a conscious, because they're not bad! like the military and capitalism which we all know is bad! Do I even need to mention "unobtainium"? Today, American culture is riddled with reminders of political correctness. Some would say it's gagging Americans to death. So, in the movie, just a short future away, pc is completely out and the (obviously American) business people and military have adopted a position similar to 19th century American military in regard to the Native Americans. "Hey! We found another sentient species! They're sitting on top of our unobtainium. The only course of action is to exterminate them! Woo hoo!" The movie's story, IMO, was just atrocious. If I shared similar political beliefs as Cameron, I might have enjoyed the movie. I'm looking forward to reading your fanfics especially because I think those stories will be way better than Cameron's unoriginal plot.

There was one part about the movie that I thought was awesome. My favorite part was when the guy jumped onto the back of the large flying creature to mind-smurf it into being his ride which polarized the other tribes into uniting in a hurry. That was pretty awesome and a good story point.

Is this the game were you are a Night caste who was or was not involved in setting off a nuke in South America to stop a shadowland's growth which inadvertently resulted in highly irradiated zombies who glow at night? If so, I'd like to hear more about this game!

Hmm..the 4 existant chapters sorta made me want to start one of my own

(but one that is Safe for Work...)

Oh, it's more along the question of "Nathan would've decided he was better off not knowing."

I was referring to the Avatar fanfic.

And to be honest, Cameron's right. Humans are bastards, and it's exactly in our nature to kill and take what we want when it's being sat on by less advanced people we don't like and who won't bow to us.

Yep, that's the one. And the irradiated zombies don't glow at night, they're just a gigantic health hazard because even if you survive the attack you're probably gonna get cancer.

But it was a better option than letting 20-meter-tall necrohellbeast grow out of those vats or whatever nasty stuff was gonna happen.

A pity this isn't going to be continued; I just reread it and it's quite good. If you need motivation to write more, a lesbian sex scene/threesome involving M'yena and Nathan's Lunar mate?

Watching the self-insert as he goes about trying to construct a 2/7 paranoia combo with LBD would be interesting to see as well. Fortunately, the inhabitants of the valley should be quite capable of giving him access to a Chancel with a distorted time flow to train in.

Seeing him realise that, if he played his card right, he has probably been handed a "conquer the local region" button would also be quite interesting. The Fair Folk appearing in his dreams might well point that out, as well, since even if the Fae-Blooded and the self-insert don't know what Fair Folk Charms are capable of (even if the Errata nerfed them majorly), she almost certainly does.

At the very least, they should be able to give him a glamour-forged flying ship that goes 50 or 60 miles per hour. That'll help him get to where Nova is a lot more quickly than walking.

Also, come to think of it, the "respecting" rituals might actually serve a purpose beyond easy sex for gods and Fair Folk; they'd also create a delineation between "person" and "not-person", which might prove to be important if there's bunches of Fair Folk Minions running around that were created by Awakened Dream Manufacture running around (and there should be; they're too useful not to make and the charm is the entryway charm to the Grace-forging charm tree. It'd also explain why all the humans can wander around almost-naked and relax; all the hard work is done by the non-sapient Minions.
