A Slashing Sword

NickTehAvenger

One Thousand Club
In a world of gaming, a world has been created that replicates the Medieval world after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, after the rein of the Charlemagne Empire and the world is plunged into the Early Medieval Era, marking the dark age of knowledge and treason. Players can spawn randomly, in any part of the world, or work with others, creating factions, fief's, settlements, or countries. What will you do?

Nick sat at his desk with his Nervegear, awaiting the game that he always wanted to come out. He immediately kept refreshing the developers website as the game would be out any second. Ten minutes later, a post came out announcing the game has been released. Nick immediately put on the Nervegear and signed in, ordering the game with his credits he's earned with previous games. The game was called A Slashing Sword and Nick had fallen in love with it's description.

Abby had been in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner when her little brother's voice called her upstairs frantically. A Slashing Sword had finally released and it had been all the girl talked about for the last few months. So much so that her younger brother had taken it upon himself to watch the website for the release so that she could download it. Dropping the plates into the sink full of soapy dish water, she bolted upstairs but composed herself as she walked into the room. No doubt, the moment she signed on there it was ready to buy and play immediately. This was the moment she'd been waiting for -- so she slipped on her Nervegear and leaned back in her chair. This was going to be good.

Nick laughed as the welcoming page for the game came up.

After Nick answered the questions, he was shown a map of the world. Indian's, Japanese, Europeans, Swedish, Norse...anywhere in the world. Nick chose somewhere in the south of West Francia, approving his location and suddenly dropping from his location and onto the wilderness like he had just woke up. In front of him laid a chest that held his Sword/Axe. He equipped them and enjoyed the wilderness for a small bit.

After traversing her way through the welcome page, Abby found herself just on the outskirts of a small town in West Franica. She quickly equipped her sword and bow before running off excitedly into the wilderness. Once she got about a half a mile in, she pulled her bow and smiled at the familiar way it held in her hand. It was not an extraordinary weapon by any means, but it was perfect for her and fit well in the palm of her hand. Feeling a bit adventurous, Abby pulled an arrow from her quiver and strung the bow carefully before pulling it back towards her cheek. With a flick of her fingers, the arrow was off shooting forward straight into the center of a nearby tree. So it was no so different from real life then, she smirked to herself.

Looking around, she felt a deep need to explore and map out her surroundings. Her favorite part of every new game -- the discovery of the new world. Who were these people living here? What resided in these trees? This forest? The possibilities were endless and so she went running off with a smirk on her face.

Nick laughed as he threw his axe into multiple trees, splitting the tree's into halves and collecting the logs. As he cleared out enough space for a few houses, he started to stack the logs onto each other and tied them, sticking the stakes into the ground where the ropes were tied onto. After a few hours, three walls were created and Nick's skill traveled up.

As she ran, Abby kept her bow drawn as she began to aim for targets -- the center of the tree, a few birds and even took a shot or two at a deer. Learning to hit her targets, her skill skyrocketed with every single contact. It was great to build her skill, but Abby wanted something exciting. Tossing her bow back over her shoulder, she ran off even deeper into the woods in hopes of finding exactly what she was looking for.

Nick constructed a fair bed and laid down on it, his body sweating from the head down. He placed his sword down and rested for a bit.

Abby had exhausted herself in a short while, but had leveled up her bow skill quite a bit. It had started to get dark and though she didn't have much shelter, she curled up underneath a tree with a small fire and leaned her head back.

Nick woke up to see black smoke in the sky and cautiously sneaked up to a woman who was curled under a tree, "You need somewhere to sleep?" Nick asked.

Abby heard steps and lurched awake, her hand on the hilt of her sword but never drawn as a boy came into view. Shaggy dark hair masked his eyes but she let out a sigh of relief at the sight of another player. "Hi, yeah -- " she scratched her head, pushing up from the ground, "that would be great."

"I'm Abby, by the way," she flashed him a smile.

"Good." He held out a hand for her so she could get to her feet. "It has a few walls, and my name is Nick." Nick greeted Abby as he walked toward his encampment, not tired at all.

Abby graciously took his hand as she made her way standing. Following back to his encampment, she was not exactly sleepy, but physically tired. All she would need was a few moments of lying down on something that wasn't roots or dirt. "A few walls, that's good," she joked, trying to keep the air light, "only one wall would be a little useless."

"And it's nice to meet you, Nick," she replied as she hiked her bow back up onto her shoulder.

The encampment came into view with a walled area with a house inside, "I'm gonna go hunt." Nick ran into the wilderness, turning his hunting skill on so animals could appear in the area.

"Oh, uh--" Abby tried to reply but when she turned around to thank him, he was running off with some excuse about hunting, "yeah, right. No, don't worry. Nice to meet you too. Thanks for the tour." Her sarcasm was thick as she looked around the encampment. It wasn't much but it was definitely better than the little nook she had crawled into out in the woods with the fire. With a sigh, she slung off her bow and leaned it against the wall with her sword. Maybe lying down was what she needed right now.

Nick smiled as he hunted, shooting deer, elk, mooses.. Nick came back with two hares and one deer, him smiling and looking at her. "Look what I got!" He laughed, exclaiming.

Nick came barreling back into the encampment with what looked like two hares, one deer, and a giant smile plastered across his face as he announced the success of his hunt. Abby didn't remember falling asleep, but his arrival jolted her upwards and she rubbed sleepily at her eyes as her energy slowly returned to her. "Look at that," she smiled, a laugh reverberating through the encampment, "You've gotten pretty good at this."

"Better than you I should guess." Nick laughed with her as he skinned the hares. "You didn't have an encampment, nor food." Nick laughed once again.

A smile was plastered on her face as she watched Nick skin the hares, but his comment made Abby rolled her eyes at him playfully, "What can I say, I like to live my life on the edge." She sat on the edge of the bed and leaned forward with her elbows on her knees.

Nick laughed as he heard her comment and threw the skin to a pile, cooking the meat through a steak and nibbling on it once cooked. "This is real good."

An announcement shot through the air and everyone was teleported to an battlefield with an red ground with a huge wall surrounded. "I am BLANK. The real creator of this game. It was taken from me for a while, but now I have it back. To see it with such a fan base and about 56 million players on, I think I should do this for fame and fun." He opened up his developer console and typed a command it. "You will no longer be able to leave." He laughed and disappeared, teleporting off everyone.

Nick sat there, his eyes widened as he immediately checked. Instead of log-out, there was authors note. The game could was inescapable and Nick screamed, throwing a rock to the ground.

Abby leapt up at the sound of the announcement, her hand gripped tightly around her bow as they were teleported. The creator of the game had made it inescapable -- what the heck was happening? She looked over to Nick, but he was throwing a rock down in rage. The two of them ended up back in their...his encampment and she tossed her bow to the side, falling back down onto the bed with an exasperated sigh.

"What are we going to do now?" She growled, running her hands through her hair, "I swear if I ever get him in my sights again, he'll have an arrow lodge between his two stupid eyes."

"D-don't ask me!" He too ran a hand through his hair with stress, "What about school, life, and all the others!" Nick started to punch a tree with more rage, cracking it.

"I mean," she walked up behind him, her arms crossed against her chest, "I can do without school, but I've got a little brother at home. I don't..."

She trailed off for a moment before letting the reality of the situation sink in. A sense of eerie calm washed over her as she realized that she had to channel her rage into a plan, "We find him. Right? Creator, mod...he's gotta be in here somewhere, lurking around. No one would ever pull a stunt like this and then not hang around to reap the benefits. We find him, we get out."

"Do you not know? He announced it outside of the game." Nick sighed, "He's gonna be arrested soon anyways." He picked up the rock and with mega strength, he threw it at a tree and it shot through the tree.

"Well good," Abby spat, slinging her bow over her shoulder, "That's just great. Really. While you throw rocks through trees, I'm going to go find a way out of here. I refuse to just sit idly by and let some freak game designer ruin my life, even if I have to comb over every single inch of this game. I've got people I need to protect."

"This guy messed with the wrong girl," her eyes set fiercely as she pushed her hair back with both hands.
