A RP Or An RP?

A RP. "an" is used before words that start with a vowel or with an h. Since RP is short for roleplay, it's "a RP"

I know that. But, saying a RP sounds weird to me.

I don't think that's correct, Ayl. I believe it goes by sound after the a vs. an, not the actual letter. Because R is pronounced like "Are," I believe it would be 'an.'

I'm with Mordi, I've always used "An RP", it feels more natural.

EDIT: And grammar rules back me up, woo!

By that logic, it'd be 'an RP' and 'a roleplay'.

That sounds fairly consistent to what most people seem to use.

Funny how this has bothered me foreeeever, and then it turns out my understanding of it was wrong, lol.

An RP. Ugh. Reprocessing.

I agree with Ayl to be grammatically correct you use "a", but its ultimately up to you and your personal preference.

You can actually use both. Yes, I agree that it matters on the sound.

"A roleplay" sounds better, but "an rp" also sounds right.

Its all because the acronym makes it sound like a vowel. But For the word "roleplay", it makes that rolling r sound, so is treated the same as the consonant.

But in that regard, both are correct. So whichever you like best.

Purdue OWL: Articles: A versus An
And Purdue university agrees.

"The choice of article is actually based upon the phonetic (sound) quality of the first letter in a word, not on the orthographic (written) representation of the letter."
In other words... there's definitely an article about indefinite articles.
. . .

I'll show myself out.

Ignore what I am saying, I need to get 10 more posts out of the way.
An RP is an socialy thing done that inovles two or more charaters. I have seen up to 20 people do one. An OC is an 'Orignal Charater' and it is what it says. Some people base there charaters of off real or ready made ones such as Korai or Nautro. There are many ways to RP ;D

Grammatically speaking it's "A Roleplay" and "An RP" because "R" is made using a vowel's sound.

It depends whether you pronounce RP as "RP" or if you use the actual word the short stands for, which is "Roleplay."

In the former case, "an RP" is the right term. In the latter, you should use "a RP" since it stands for "a roleplay."
