Clementine Holt
Clementine’s hands were pressed into the wood of the tree as she hanged off of it for dear life. Blood rushed in her ears as the events unfolded around her. She groaned as her arms began to cramp. The low buzz in her ears went almost unnoticed. As it grew in intensity, Clementine clenched her teeth and tried to ignore it. However, the pitch became unbearable and she began rubbing her ear against her shoulder to try and relieve the persistent pain. Her eyes closed tightly as she prayed for it all to end.
Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, Clementine saw white. Her mind was foggy in a state of panic, but she remembered closing her eyes but moments ago. Afraid to move, she tried to stayed still and focus on her panicked breathing. Clementine expected the new loss of breath to be fearful, but it left her with an eerie sense of calm. Her last thought contemplated if she died.
The snap back to awareness gave her the sensation of falling; her stomach seemingly dropping into her feet. She instinctively gripped the plush sheets beneath her and gulped for air. The presence of the room gave a familiar feeling, but did not calm the shakiness of her hands. Clementine rose in the bed and stood on trembling legs, only a little disturbed by the calm acceptance of what she thought was death. With shaky breath she headed towards the door and opened it to confront the ever prevalent smell of bacon and people in the room ahead.
