A-NEXT | Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game

Lost Martian

A-NEXT
The modern age of the superhero began with the turn of the century. In the year 2000, Spider-Man would first swing over New York City, the Fantastic Four would go to space and gain their powers, and the first public whisperings of mutants existing would happen. In the following years many more powered individuals, both heroic and villainous, would appear, greatly changing the world.

People would look up to groups like the Avengers and X-Men, this need to be protected becoming a popular thing. Of course not all of these powered people would operate publicly, as organizations like SHIELD and HYDRA would exist in the shadows. As time passed, these heroes would get older, many of them starting families, which meant some of them also began retiring from crime fighting.

The last major crisis was ten years ago when the world devourer Galactus tried to consume the Earth for a final time. The heroes, and some villains, of the world would unite, ultimately being able to destroy Galactus once and for all, though it cost many lives. Following this crisis, the vast majority of powered individuals retired.

Since then the Earth has mostly been at peace, with mutants finally becoming more widely accepted, and humanity making peace deals with various alien empires. Thus the Avengers went on to be a backup team and Xavier’s Institute was closed, becoming a museum of mutant history.

However in the last year, things have started picking up again. Rumors abound about HYDRA and AIM being back, as well as a new generation of mutants who are using their powers for crime, and various aliens operating on Earth illegally. Wishing to address these issues, as well as train these new super-powered youths, SHIELD director Monica Chang has started the A-NEXT Initiative.

Making use of the long abandoned Avengers Mansion, Director Chang and SHIELD as a whole would make a training center for teenage superheroes, to guide them down the right road. Besides a mix of schooling and practical training, the A-NEXT members are allowed to fight crime, but with SHIELD oversight.

So as the first class of A-NEXT begins, the retired superheroes around the world are anxiously waiting to see what this new generation of superheroes will bring to protect the peace.

So the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game is fairly new, so I don’t expect a majority, or possibly any, of people to be familiar with it, but I would like to give it a try, as I’m willing to teach it. Using a simple 3d6 system, Marvel Multiverse RPG is a quick and cinematic game where you aren’t bogged down with a ton of numbers to sort through, just needing to know addition and single digit multiplication.

For those not familiar with the game I suggest watching the official how to play video made by Marvel themselves: link here. If you are still are interested in this, but don’t own the books, please PM me and I can help.

As far as the characters you will be playing, they will be teenagers who are a part of the new generation of powered individuals. This can mean that you are a child of a canon hero or villain, a new character taking up a familiar mantle like Moon Knight or Ghost Rider, or a fully original character as long as they fit in the Marvel universe.

As far as rules and character building goes, I have decided that you will be playing Rank 3 characters, and that I will allow for pretty much any powers combination as long as it abides by the power selection rules in the core book.

But yeah, I’ve had all the books for this roleplay system for awhile now, and I would love to get a chance to run it. So if you are interested in this, please let me know. If you have any questions or character concepts you want to share, please feel free and I will reply promptly.

Planning on running this in real time over something like Discord? Or via forum posts?

I have an idea or two for a character that might fit in the Marvel Universe.

Am not sure of a character concept. I do like to play nice together, so that if the others want a fighter concept and a teleport concept, for example, maybe I'll do a more social or cerebral character, so we cover more bases.

Like I said,I had two ideas ready, both on the...dramatic side.

First is a cybernetically augmented spy experimentally created by the government of Madripoor using assets that were retrieved after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. She was augmented with implants similar to that used by Omega Red,and is more stable, lacking the specific need to drain life force from people but with less enhanced physical attributes. Still has the arm tentacles to shock or constrict people though. At some point she got captured by SHIELD and became an asset for them. Still mentally and physically a teenager because she was kept on ice like Winter Soldier a lot.

The other is a mutant who has the ability to spread an infectious sickening compound and was experimented on by Dr. Rappacini of AIM using traces of the Extremis virus, giving her the ability to shroud herself in metallic armor and project heat and fire via a fusion reaction. As such she has two distinct forms with different powersets. Again, retrieved by SHIELD after a raid on AIM.

Assuming that this team is based in the US and affiliated with SHIELD,anyway.

I can also come up with something new to fit the planned plot and other characters more closely, though.

I have two concepts:

1. Masque - a master of illusion and tactics, he isn't a fighter, but he works to give every advantage possible to his allies so they can win the day, while remaining hidden from their enemies.
2. Sarashanti - This daughter of Sarasvati, the Hindu goddess, is a minor goddess of healing waters, and has learned some martial arts.

I like your first character idea. An experiment type character could be an interesting member of the party. As far as the back story goes, as long as they’re are still a teenage mentally and physically, as I intend for this game to have teen aged characters. Also you mentioned the fall of the Soviet Union, which happened at a time when no superheroes were active as supers weren’t really a thing till 2000.

As for your second character idea, having a mutant infected with the Extremis virus might work, but I’m not sure about the infection spreading power, as from what I remember how the powers are laid out in the rulebook I’m not sure if infection powers are a thing. However you could keep the extremis half and just change the mutant power half to a different power. Honestly either idea could work with a little bit of tinkering.

I like both ideas. For the first character do you think the illusions are telepathic power or a magic power? Also I’m not really sure if the Hindu gods are already established in Marvel comics, but I would allow you to flesh them out on your own because this is a unique universe.

Glad to have you here. Do you have any kind of character in mind?

Also I’m surprised to see that no one so far wants to play as the child of a canon character. I thought that would be the more popular choice, but I’m definitely fine with fully original characters.

For the first character, I was thinking magic powers, and in fact has put him down as a Magic: Sorcery origian.

As for the second character, am not sure if Marvel has used the Hindu pantheon in their comics. This is basically me wanting to play that character, since she was originally made for a Scion game that fizzled. One thing I did come across, is that Healing powers aren't in the core book, and am not sure if you allow powers from other books. I did come across the fact the the X-Men Expansion book seems to have Healing powers, but if you don't have it, or don't want to add it, that's fine.

Interested.

Ive got concepts

Kriyasor Petragon or Sylvan
An inhuman representative from the city of Attilan and the grandson of Gorgon Petragon and member of the Inhuman royal family. He's inherited the caprine body of his grandfather but his powers from terragenesis leans more towards speed and absorbing kinetic energy.

Kevin Mors or Razorback
Semi divine child of Ares he can take the form of a monsterous humaniod boar

I really like your child of Ares concept...

Upon some consideration I might play a straightforward symbiote host instead, depending on what everyone ends up going with.

Does anyone recall if the core book has any mechanics that enforce distinct powersets in multiple forms? Or if it's kind of on the honor system to go "this hero can only use X power in X situation"? Tags, probably.

Anyway, let me just post the bones of my character ideas here, the numbers and powers already in order. If this gets going and other people flesh out their characters,I'll decide which one to use.

I’m currently leaning towards your demigod character as they are more fleshed out, and I’m fine with you re-imagining a character from an older roleplay. I am open to having powers from any official book, though the thing is that I do own all the books, except for the Spider-Verse one that I’ll be picking up soon, physically I only have a digital copy of the core rules to share with you guys. So I guess if you have no access to the X-Men Expansion, you might need to rethink your character’s powers a little bit.

Glad to have you on board. Honestly I wasn’t expecting this much interest in a system that is not D&D. Do you have any kind of character in mind right now?

EbonChevalier EbonChevalier
I like both of your character ideas. The first one is cool in that having an Inhuman in the party could vary things up, but the second character would automatically have a connection if Claws plays their demigod character, as you could do the whole gods for parents thing. Honestly I’ll just leave it up to whichever one speaks to you more.

Nellancholy Nellancholy
Wow I didn’t expect someone to create a character sheet already, let alone three. They are all good mechanically, save Cobalt Blue who you still have one more attribute point to spend on them, and would work in this roleplay. It will all come down to what you want to play as, though we should probably give the other interested parties a chance to look over the sheets and comment on what they what character they would like to roleplay with.

I know what kind of person my character will be, but not her power or superhero name yet.

I have found the x-men expansion, and will share it with you, and make my demi-goddess character

Truth is that I'm not satisfied with the options available for Blight's "occupation",since she doesn't really have the background of a typical student either. Guess "test subject kept in a fake house who has never socialized for over a decade" doesn't really give an interesting set of traits.

Also I'm not locked in on Ravage as the symbiote's name,I'm open to any equally edgy suggestions.

Still,I'm perfectly ready to play whichever suits the group most.
