A new face

Syrrus

Wishful bard
The beautiful lands of his home. Valerik belonged to no tribe, no city and no family. He lived in between four deadly climates and near the sea of sand. It was for the best after all, Valerik was not a very good swimmer. The great Sea of Sand was in fact just that, a sea made out of sand, the winds were so strong that they managed to move great ships across the desert as if they were riding proper waves made out of proper water. It was an incredible sight and he had to admit that he enjoyed watching it more than sailing it.

Except the ocean of desert his house were also decorated by great mountain ranges, cliffs and beautiful shimmering waterfall. It was in the great lake just north of town where the fishermen lived for even though the Sea of Sand contained strange fish the lake actually contained them who weren't made of solid rock. It was a strange land indeed but it was home and Valerik had never witness anything different. Except the beautiful sparkling lake and the tall roaring waterfalls the mountain range was also dotted by cave systems, dark and cold. No one but the bravest would venture down there and Valerik would have been a fool not to admit that he had been one of them who did in on a daily basis. It was his job after all.

Today, when the sun was burning hot and throwing beams of gold down upon valley, Valerik was spending his time sitting upon the wooden steps to his tiny hut, just by the end of town. He lived there by himself. His different armors and weapons were decorating the walls indoor. His kitchen were connected to the bedroom and he had almost no space at all to attend guests. In fact, the only spacious about his property was the small farmland he had come to taken care of just outside. It wasn't too big either but large enough to grow some carrots, potatoes and other useful herbs and berries he needed for his great hunts.

Valerik was sitting quietly, making arrows for one of his beautiful bows while the sun danced over his ebony hair which was getting awfully curly down his neck. He was not wearing anything too fancy either. Just a simple white shirt, open over the chest, thick but good trousers that would keep cold and water away from his knees, as well as sturdy boots. He was nothing much and if it wasn't for his strong build and the fact that he had one long scar over his lip people could easily have thought that he was just a simple farmer in his thirties.

He knew nothing of what had been happening around his home. The great and terrifying beast were indeed a growing threat but he had never thought about it to be something unatural, they had always been there. Sure their strenght had grown but how could a man like he know that it was only the beginning of something even greater?

"Gill!" The Greatest Explorer Ever Known Hugo Markovic yelled do his dragon, Gill, above the winds. "Please tell me that town over there is just damn small and not super far away!" Markovic held the neck of the green wyvern as they soared quickly through the sky, their speed increased ten fold by the helpful winds behind them. It was perfect, really. Mark loved anything that ended as quickly as it started, but this trip, no matter how fast they were flying, took hours. They moved so quickly that he was sure that if he loosened his grip even for a moment, he'd go flying off of Gilligan's back and be lost forever in the Sea of Sand. He'd be dammed if he died in this place! All he had seen since they reached the great desert was sand, sand, and--not to leave any great details out--more sand. He had not seen water for what felt like decades and on a day as hot as this it was needless to say that he had run out of his own long ago. He regretted sharing with Gilligan, but he knew that he would never for a moment consider letting his pretty beast down that way, but now they were both thirsty. The powerful jetstream cut Gill some slack, but Mark knew good and well when his girl was tired. She answered him back with a weak call. It was like that same tired, weak response you could expect from someone who was tired and thirsty, but still had to run nonetheless. "I'll check!" He yelled again, this time weaker than before.

Mark reached carefully for his knapsack and fingered around inside before pulling out a small telescope. In the small moment he took to open the telescope, Mark had been pulled down his dragon. He had only saved himself by grabbing onto her again quickly before he was dragged completely off. Gilligan lifted her head to check on him.

"I-I'm fine," he managed to say, his heart beating a mile a minute. He took deep breathes. Great explorers aren't intimidated by death! Mark thought to motivate himself. It helped only a little knowing that he was always afraid of death. Mark pulled himself back up Gilligan's length, reminding himself once more to buy a saddle in the future, and looked through his telescope at the world yonder. With the naked eye Mark culd see a change in the landscape, but with his telescope it was so much clearer. From there he could see an end to the sandy madness. The Sea melted away into vegetation, it opened into a world with all but the monotony of endless sand. There were cliffs, a waterfall, a town even! And better yet, the sight that made Mark's heart soar with relief, a lake! Water! They had reached water! Another hour and he would have passed out from dehydration, heat stroke, or worse. "Gill-y! We're almost there!"

Gill roared weakly in response and their flight continued on. Mark watched anxiously as the lake came closer, though not fast enough. He could tell when it wouldn't be long. Gill had spotted the lake and moved faster now. It had taken fifteen or twenty minutes and now they would be upon the lake in mere moments. "Alright, Gill," Mark began. "Once we land by the lake, we'll--" Gill had already begun soaring towards the water, but she hardly slowed down. "Hey, you're listening to me, right!?" The wyvern continued her bee-line towards the center of the lake and as they approached, Mark understood her intentions. "Gill! Do not land in that lake!" It was coming closer. "We have things that can't get wet!" Closer. "Stop, dammit!" Gill complied then, but not in the way Mark had intended. Instead of stopping in the air she let herself go completely, letting go of all efforts and falling towards the lake. Mark's stomach tightened as they sped towards the ground. He felt himself lifting off of Gill's back. "DAMMIT GILL!" They crashed into the lake.

Mark could hear nothing but the rush of water by his ears. If it weren't for his goggles, he would have never been able to see the clear sky above them or the fish that lived in the lake swim desperately away from him. Gill had landed a ways away from him. Stupid, dragon. Still, as mad as he was at her, he was thankful for the relief the cool water brought. So what if he got wet? The sweat had already drenched him anyways. It was after a moment of rest that Mark began to swim back to the water's surface. As soon as he emerged, he was back to yelling.

"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU, GILL!?" Mark looked around the water and saw nothing, but soon enough Gill burst above the water's surface with a fish in her mouth which she devoured quickly. "Get out of the water, ya big dumbass! You can't even swim!" Seeing that Gill was ignoring him, Mark swam back to shore. He brushed his wet, red hair out of his face. "I hope something in there eats you!" He yelled back to her, ringing the water from his clothes with hopes that they'll dry.

(Sorry for the wait! Or if this was a tad too silly. X) )

He had seen everything and it hadn't only sparked his interests and grip his attention - causing him to cut his palm - but also made him completely lose his senses. He hurried up, tossed everything aside and without thinking he had started running. Valerik would usually consider wearing something thick, not just a open shirt and a pair of trousers, when venturing into the woods and towards the giant lake. He could hear the splash like thunder. That beast had been enormous! He proceeded through the woods, darting between the trees until he reached the valley he then just stood there, upon some rocks with one and on a rather thick vine for support ant stared at what had happened.

How stupid could someone be?! Never mind the fact that he had run head first through the forest without weapon or armor, but that stranger had thrown himself into the great lake! That was not good, not good at all. "Get out of there!!" The man shouted as he tossed himself from the rocks and ran forward. Panic in his eyes. They had disturbed the waters and not even by a little, he wouldn't have been surprised if that splash had removed every drop of water from the lake. Something bad was bound to happen. No one in their right senses messed with the Crystal Lake. No one! It was then he realized that he wasn't wearing anything that could protect his flesh from what would be crawling out of the water any second now. Never mind the stranger and his weird animal. How could anyone ride such a thing? Valerik trusted next to nothing, never mind animals and beasts of such size. Something that could swallow you whole was better to keep far-far away.

As soon as he realized he had nothing to protect himself with he stumbled forward, wobbled and then quickly started to move backwards as if he had gotten possessed. Waving his arms like if he had gotten caught in the wind. "Get out of there!" He was going to die, wasn't he? Because of a blasted stranger and his weird pet. Valerik grabbed the first thing he could find which was a piece of rock laying in the sand. It was hardly going to be enough to harm whatever lived in that lake, he had only seen the creature once or twice and he had never dared to challenge it, not even walked near it.

It was then something started to move through the water. The hunter spotted it at first as a shadow or perhaps just a very large fish. He knew his eyes was playing tricks on him. He knew exactly what was moving beneath the surface, moving upwards like a hellish monster. Ready to destroy, kill and eat whatever had dared to enter its domain. Valerik couldn't help but to shake. He wasn't a coward, far from it but he knew when he had done something that wasn't going to be good. No matter how brave, he'd be a fool if he wasn't terrified of what now broke the surface and showed its giant head. The long and sharp fangs was pearly white and matched the scales on the giant lizards head and back. Valerik knew the beast to be large, but not that large. He had never imagined that he would be the size of the creatures talons. He got so surprised that he dropped the rock into the sand as he widened his eyes. He wanted to scream but when he opened his mouth nothing but a tiny 'Eh' escaped him.

Damn his kindness, damn his curiosity and most of all damn the stranger who had decided that crash-landing into that lake was such a brilliant idea. Valerik was a monster hunter, he had the ability to take down great beasts but not with his bare hands and not without armor. If he ever survived this day he'd never dress in anything but a full body armor in case something like this would happen to him again. Not that he was going to survive. He had already prepared himself mentally for dying. That thing was going to eat him alive without even noticing! Valerik wobbled from side to side almost as if he was going to faint until he shook his head, rather violently and started to slap himself across the face. He had to keep himself collected. He still had his quick feet? Perhaps some on his traps was still around, maybe... Then the giant beast roared towards his general direction and the man's expression dropped completely.

No, he was going to die.

(Hah, that's fine! Sorry that mine doesn't contain the same lenght as yours. Oh and, my English isn't good enough to describe something such as this, so pardon the image of the Sea-creature.)

Eh? The Greatest Explorer Ever Known Hugo Markovic raised his head when he heard shouting the distance. When he looked up he could see a man running towards him and acting real strange too. He squinted his eyes when he heard the man yell, but not quite what he said. Mark leaned forward and as the man came closer, he yelled again. Get out of there! Oh hell. Mark looked back at his dragon in the lake, frowning. He watched as Gill swam towards him, looking a little more cheerful than he liked for the situation. The dragon was doing some sort of mix between the dog paddle, a duck swim, splashing, and... and... Hell he didn't know. Maybe he was just picking out things. Honestly Mark didn't know how she was getting across. He'd made attempts to teach her how to swim, but with a slow as she was going, it was certain he hadn't made much progress. A small smile came on Mark's face at Gill's appearance, finding it cute like a silly dog, but he yelled at her anyways like he always did.

"Ya hear that, Gill!? The man doesn't want you in the damn lake! Now get out, hear!?" Gill was halfway back to him when she responded back to him and halfway back when he noticed the shadows under the water. Mark's memory immediately went back when, just moment's ago, he had wished Gilligan become fish food by something in the water. Now he regretted it. "Seriously, Gill, move your ass!" He yelled again, this time his voice more panicked than last. He wasn't serious, not in the slightest! He prayed briefly to the Elders who watched over the dragons not to take him seriously and bring their daughter back to The Great Skies. He was just kidding. Seriously! He was just kidding! The shadow beneath the water darkened and Mark's heart quickened its pace. "Seriously! I said move it!" From where he stood, Mark could see that Gill had caught his drift and made an attempt to swim faster, but it had been too late by then. The shadow had grown so big that the lake couldn't contain it and it burst from the surface of the water, revealing itself as a great, scaled beast.

Mark looked wide-eyed at the tall beast that rose from the, what Mark could guess now, were the great depths of the lake. His face was horror-stricken at the sight of Gill with it, tossed in the air by the force of its breach. Gill looked like an ant next to that thing and he begged for her to regain balance, stop herself from spinning out of control, and fly away from this beast before it devoured her with jaws that could swallow the whole of the Sea of Sand. No words and no breath escaped Mark's mouth, but in his mind he screamed for Gill to do anything but fall down the beast's throat. He could see the glint of the crystal embedded into her chest and wondered if she could feel the strength of the one embedded into his own.

She felt it. He could feel it in the pulse of the crystal connected to his heart. Gill spread her wings, finally regaining her control, and flew out of the reach of the beast's glowing orange gaze. She flew from the lake towards him, going lower so he could reach up and grasp onto her leg so he himself was taken into the hair. They stayed high, but hovered over the area, watching the great beast in all its glory. Mark's heart still beat quickly, but he no longer felt that he or Gilligan's life would be taken within the next moment and his fear began to ebb. Mark crawled up Gill's leg, as he had done time and time again, and back onto her back. From there he could get a better view of the beast.

"Holy shit what is that thing!?" He exclaimed, pointing at the blue monster above the water. He asked no one and the man below him at the same time. He looked down at the man below him and his rock and yelled again. "I think you're going to need a damn boulder for this guy!" Mark looked back up at the monster and then down again at the man. "Or a mountain!" Mark's eyes rested back on the sea-creature which was as beautiful as it was terrifying. His mind swam in wonder and then raced to money.

(Haha, you're fine! It's about content, not length. And don't worry about your descriptions. I like pictures and they help me with my own poor descriptive abilities anyways. :P )

Valerik didn't know what to do. The beast seemed annoyed, or perhaps a little frustrated that someone had decided to swim in -his- lake. For the beast was a male, it was obvious due to how the horns and spiky scales turned and twisted the way they did, to look like weapons made for battle instead of grace and speed, which was a more female trait, at least when it came to water dwellers. Not only that but the males was generally bigger, not like the great sky lizards who actually had larger females. Gods, why couldn't this have been a female? Even though he was certain that a lady serpent would kill him just as easily, the size wouldn't terrifying him in the same type of fashion. He needed a weapon, even though he doubted he had skills to defeat something this large even with his favorite blade and strongest armor.

Watching the strangers pet getting push upwards the way it did was slightly hilarious, if Valerik could be completely honest but he also felt quite bad. It didn't look as if the wyvern knew what the heck was going on or what the hell they had encountered. The lake monster luckily found the wyvern a lot more interesting that the monster hunter on the beach or the man swimming in the water and was swiping at it as the wyvern pulled its master out of the strong current that had been created from the beast breaking the surface. Swallowing hard, Valerik realized that the best would peer down at him any moment now and smash him against the ground like an ant. Something he didn't wish to happen, not even a little.

Glaring angrily up at the stranger who dared to comment about his rock of choice Valerik shouted: "Shut up! Does it look like I can lift a---AAH!!" He screamed as he tossed himself to the side just as the serpents tail came flying towards him and created a crater in the sand. With a mouth full of sand, the hunter realized that he had never been in a more humiliating satiation his whole life and came to the conclusion that it was the strangers fault. Bloody foreigner. He was quick to get back on his feet though, just in time to avoid another big limb getting tossed his way. He imagined it as 'tossed' because of the sheer size of whatever limb it was that came flying through the air and landed just where he had been laying.

"I'm a monster hunter!" Valerik screamed after spitting sand for a second time, turning toward the beast who glared with mad eyes down at him. "How dare you make me jump around like a scared little jack rabbit?! I've killed things larger than you, you--- you freak!!" He shouted from the top of his lunges which caused the serpent to stop and listen for a moment. Saliva dripping from its jaw. It stood like that for what felt like minutes before craning its neck upwards, roaring as it started to charge up electricity through the giant crystals that decorated its back. Valerik's mouth fell open. He had never seen anything like it before. A giant sphere started to grow between the beasts jaws, bigger and bigger. It was sparkling with uncontrollable thunder and with reflexes quick as the wind it bent its neck forward facing the stranger, the wyvern and Valerik, launching the charged up ball of lightning in-between them, causing it the explode on impact, shooting volts and volts of electricity through everything it touched.

Valerik had turned around to run just as the beast had started to charge up its power. Clearly it wasn't very interested in who the hunter was or pleased to be call a freak for it aimed to kill. Not that the serpent had tried to play gently with them earlier. The hunter managed to get far enough to only get a small volt of electricity through his body, enough however to throw him straight forward into a nearby three which fell over by the impact. Dust and sand moved through the air like static, making it almost impossible to see anything but sparkling blue lightning running through the ground, trees and climbing rocks. As well as two glowing orange orbs.

"Whoa!" Markovic claimed as Gill jerked them out of the way of the large tail that was flung towards them. "Shit!" He yelled again as they had to dodge another limb. He patted Gill's neck urgently, a signal for her to rise upwards in the sky. She did so immediately, getting out of the range of the beast's massive body parts. "Gill-y we can get water at the next town over. It ain't too far away and I'm not trying to get killed a mile away from safety, get it?" Mark grimaced and gripped his chest as a sharp pain went through his heart. "Oh come the fuck on, Gill-y! Don't tell me you want to help this guy out! He either dies or gets away, we can't change anything by getting ourselves killed too! I mean we--" Mark was interrupted by the beast's powerful roar and when he turned his attention back to it, he could see the bright ball of lightning sparking in the lizard's mouth. Mark could feel the static growing in the air. It made his hair stand on end and he could hear the small pops from his now charged body. "Gill-y fly. Gill-y fly!"

The dragon did as she was told, turning around and flying farther away from the beast. It had been a few quick seconds before the screech of lightning and the boom of thunder sounded off behind them. The noise was as jarring as the attack was powerful. Mark hadn't even realized he was falling through the air until he finally opened his eyes. Oh not again, he groaned in his mind as he watched the ground rush towards him. He felt more sick than he did afraid after that attack. He looked up into the air and saw Gilligan flying towards him. He closed his eyes again.

When Mark opened his eyes again he was flat against Gill's back, her own body resting against a tree. He lifted himself up slowly, pain going through his body as he did. His fingers were blackened. Shit.

"Gill are you alright?" The dragon groaned in response and picked herself up from the ground. She was fine. Mark coughed the dust in the air from his lungs. He wiped the dust from his goggles and looked left and right through the dust. "You still tryin' to help this guy out?" He asked, thinking she would say no. Instead he felt the same tug on his heart through the crystal in his chest and he knew she was still adamant. He could protest, it wasn't as though she didn't feel the same pain he did. But Mark knew it would do no good and relented. "Fine. But if we don't find him by the time one of those spark ball things comes at us again we're leaving!" The pain stopped immediately and rush of relief came to him as Gilligan perked up, her search already beginning for the man.

"AYE GUY!" Mark yelled, wincing as he did. "IF YOU DON'T WANT YER HIDE COOKED I SUGGEST YOU FOLLOW MY VOICE BECAUSE I AIN'T PLANNIN' ON STAYIN'!" Gill roared afterwards, adding her own, much more nicely put words in addition. "I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO WITH THAT ROCK BUT THE ODDS AIN'T IN YOUR FAVOR, BUB!"

(Sorry for taking so long to reply. Got a bit busy. X))

"Why are you screaming, you dolt? I'm right here!" Valerik said from behind them, glaring angrily though the messy air and coughing heavily. "Do you want the monster to see you?! They're not def, you know." He hissed as he stroke red blood off his forehead. The giant lake monster seemed rather unhappy, and very interested in frying them alive. It wasn't possible to see but the air was feeling awfully tense, it was just a matter of time before it would charge another bolt towards them.

Valerik stroked black hair out of his face, glaring and scowling towards the stranger who had ruined his day. Not on purpose probably and it wasn't really his fault either. How could he know that Valerik would spot them and try and follow something crashing through the air? Frankly, no one would be so stupid. No one but Valerik, it seemed.

"And no offence, but I don't trust that thing you're flying around on." He pointed through the air, missing the wyvern completely, seeing as he couldn't see jack through the dust. "We're not far from the village, the beast wont leave the lake. Come, but don't call me 'guy' ever again." He turned, to certain he knew exactly where he was going but he knew it was away from the monster. That was good enough for Valerik. He walked, silently and as carefully as he could, if he trip and fell into the water by accident he'd be fish food. What moron decided to swim in an unknown lake anyway? This was all the strangers fault.

The blood was pouring down the left side of his face, getting into his eye and making his vision awfully blurred. Great, as if he didn't have enough problems as it was. He almost tripped over a patch of grass when he finally reached the forest, which was when he decided to run. Not far and not too quickly either. The blood on his head was enough to alert any monster and he didn't wish to lose the stranger, just incase he would have a hard time sleeping through the guilt.

He tripped again, this time enough to fall forward and face plant into the dirt. He couldn't hear the noise of the lake monster, that only meant that nothing big was following them. Good. He didn't wish to get the whole village ruined. In truth, he actually didn't know if the serpent would stay at the lake or not, it was just a well placed guess.

(That's alright. Sorry that my respons is a tad short...)

Mark and Gil turned around when they heard the man's voice behind them. Mark frowned and took offense to the man's quick return. Didn't he know they were going out of their way to do this? "So-orry I couldn't see through all this smoke!" Mark snapped back but this time whispering. Thanks to his goggles, if he could clear the air enough by waving his hands, he would be able to see somewhat. When he squinted through the dust he was certain the man wasn't facing the right direction. A small whine escaped Gill's throat after the man's comment. "Hey, guy she ain't a thing. Her name is Gill and she's the only reason I'm here right now. She wanted us to come back and save your ass, least you could do is sound happy about it!"

Without Mark being too willing, Gill started following the man as he plundered through the woods. He rested his hand on his head as they did, wishing for Gill to give up watching over a guy who probably thought of her as the same level as a lizard. Seriously, fuck this guy! Mark felt personally insulted for himself and on Gill's behalf. If she weren't such a sweetheart they would have been in town by now. Gill sped up as the man did and Mark raised his brow. He was going to run all of the way to town? Wow. That wasn't worth it. Mark lifted his head and then laughed quietly when the man tripped.

"It would be easier just to fly there." Mark pointed out. "Gill-y's way too nice. She wouldn't do anything even if I wanted her to. It'll take less than a minute to get there. If you don't like her that much we can drop you off in a second and then be outta yer hair a'ight, guy? Or... What's your name?"

(Sorry for the wait again! If you can't make a lot from this just message me and I can fix it.)

"Val." Valerik stroke sticks and leafs out of his hair. He still didn't seem to enjoy the presence of the beast behind him, nor the guy who kept speaking in the monsters favor. He was a hunter, it was his job to take down creatures like her - not that he had seen a wyvern that size before - no matter if there was people who liked them. There were cults out in the world who prayed to dangerous creatures who at the same time as being praised also slaughtered village after village. He had to stay neutral. Be good and not nice. Because nice is different than good. Good is just right.

"You do realize what I am right? Granted I'm not wearing my armor - which we will go to my house to get hold of before heading for town. It's just up this hill." The man pulled away tall grass, thick leaves and vines and continued on the path a head until they reached his hut and the tiny farm that belonged with it. It was a secluded place, protected by a tall cliff range and thick trees. Too narrow for any big trouble.

It didn't take long for the man to enter his home and then step back outside, dressed in what he would prefer to have been wearing when they meet the sea serpent.

It was red scaled armor, decorated with chainmail and monster bones. Big shoulder plates and a helmet that acted a lot like a hood, hanging over hi back with leather straps and chains. He had made the armor itself. It was enough to scare small beasts and good enough to protect him from heavy blows. Valerik felt a lot better now, the way be put his heavy two handed axe over his back. Sheathed and heavy.

"Can't believe you decided to wake the serpent. You have no idea how much pain you've caused the people back at Takiki village. That thing is not going to go back to sleep unless it eats you." Valerik face palmed and sighed all too heavily before glancing at the wyvern. "Gill, was it? Well. I can't be fancying one monster when I slay the rest, that would damage my repetition." It almost sounded as if he was planning on cutting the wyverns head off, though instead he simply folded his arms. Clearly not.

"What are you suppose to be anyway?" He looked over at the stranger, raising an eyebrow and then suddenly seemed to learn something called manners as his next question seemed wrong, coming from him. "Perhaps you both would like something to eat? I don't have much - nothing fancy. But it's the least I can do before we slay the serpent. You can barrow weapons from me, by the way, in case you need it."

(No worries! And no Worries again. If you can't understand what Val is saying, don't worry he's meant to take everything that happan for granted and make no sense...)

"What are ya? A little stubborn? HA!" Mark burst out laughing at his own well-crafted joke. Gill would have been laughing with him too if she weren't so concerned with their new companion. He was surprised that they had actually walked to Val's house. In all his adventures, The Great and Talented Explorer Hugo Markovic had never willingly walked so far. This guy was a stubborn. Real stubborn. The two companions waited for him outside of his home until he emerged fully clad in armor. Gill lifted her head in confusion at the same time mark lifted a brow.

"What the heck are you supposed to be?" He frowned, "And Gill ain't no monster, got it?" Mark said with a hint of anger in his voice. How could he say something like that? Monsters were great, evil beings that terrorized innocents and killed without reason. Gill's only fault was that she was fool enough to want to help this guy despite all of his insults. Didn't she know how to be angry like him!? Mark remembered the many dragons of his brothers who, like them, could rage like a beast. His anger was muddled momentarily by Val's next declaration. "You're gonna do what!?" Mark exclaimed, sitting up on Gill's back. Finally it seemed she agreed with him because she reacted similarly, rearing up and looking at Valerick as though he had said something unspeakable. "You can't kill it! And thanks for the meal but I'm not going to help you either."

Now Mark understood what exactly what Val was. One of those... Monster hunter guys. Basically bounty hunters, but for animals and stuff. Or so he thought. This guy just seemed like he was killing things for no reason!

"I thought you monster hunting guys were supposed to kill animals that terrorized cities or at the very least caught rare ones for money or something." Like fur traders or something, but entire animals. Did this guy even know what was in his job description or was he just out of the loop?

(Sorry for taking so long! D: Don't think I don't want to post, just busy. And sorry this post should have been better. X( )

Valerik frowned. This guy had no honor. It didn't seem as if they would ever get alone - fine by him. He wasn't one to try and get friends anyway, perhaps that was the biggest reason as to why he was such a unlikable jackass as so many liked to call him. "You do realize that the beast you woke up buy landing in 'his' pool is not going to rest a day until he finds you and on the way he's going to kill a lot of people." Never mind the fact that his scales, bones, horns, teeth and leather would be worth a mint. Valerik wasn't one to say no to gold after all.

"And 'we' Monster Hunters hunt to survive. I don't know what cloud you've been hiding behind all your life but the world isn't pleasant and..." He turned his head to face the lizard which the strange man seemed to treat like a friend, frowning slightly. "I apologize for insulting you." He said, simply and rightly before looking at the stranger again - who's name he had already forgotten, or perhaps the guy hadn't given it to him yet. "Don't tell me you're going to fly away like a scared winged bunny while that beast destroys anything in its path to find us again? Do you realize how much blood you'll have on your hands if that happens?" Valerik folded his arms and raised a thin eyebrow.

"I'll ask again: What weapon do you want. I'll lend you one because I'm such a good sport." Of course he was a good sport. He was the best sport. The most attractive, strong and intelligent monster hunter the world had ever seen. Though that had little to do with sport. He blew black hair out his face and waited patiently for the man to respond while eyeing his flying pet up and down. She didn't look too big, not too strong either.

Valerik almost wished that he had traveled the world a little longer and a little farther. It annoyed him slightly that he had no clue that there were people like this guy who used monsters like pets. Then again, perhaps this... Gill wasn't a monster but something else?
