Fantasy A New Era: Beginnings

A tie? For.......what pray tell?
This Quest Log! Quest Logs are a special type of RP, to quote RPN, "Quests are a simple, fast, and extremely fun way of roleplaying. Similar to freeform, dice, nation building, and all the different styles of roleplaying here, quests involve members helping to move the story forward – but with a democratic twist!" Basically it is like a choose-your-own-adventure story, where participants determine the direction of the plot by voting on the choices the OP has given or in certain circumstances, write in options. The choice in question is what sort of strategy our main character, Wrytin (ha, get it? It was a write-in choice, so her name is quite literally, "Wrytin"), should use in dealing with a band of thugs.

Options:
1 | Attack head on!
2 | Go for defense first, then attack when you spot an opening!
3 | Make good use of the feints you've been practicing!

Edit: Whoops, didn't see that there was another page after this.

Hmmm......all three sound lke good strategies but, if you attack head on you are laying your cards on the table a bit too early and that will give them a chance to get back quickly. Going for defence is good if you have the stamina for it but it also damages you and leaves you weaker for the attack you want to go for later. The feints seem like a good balance of both. You don't take on as much damage and you still have strength and energy for attack, however, depending on how much you practiced it could turn on you and only use it a couple of times so that could be a bit risky. So, taking everything into consideration, I believe option three would make the best and most logical choice to both survive and win against bandits and thugs.

I concur. Let the leader build on his false assumptions and strike him down when he utterly drops his guard.

You decide that the best tactic is to use feints and dodge, then trick the lead mobster by striking where he least expects it.

He dashes towards you, a spiked club high in the air. He intends to bring it crashing down on you but you feint left and dart right, your speed and agility allowing you to keep one step ahead of his raw muscular strength. You keep feinting and then stabbing and soon enough he is riddled with cuts.

At long last he topples to the ground, a bloody mess.

"You did it!" Lyra exclaims, albeit with a look of repulsion at the fallen figure. "Let's get out of here." Quickly you make your way away from the confused and rather stupid-looking guys and towards the practice arena.

When you're finally there, Lyra is panting hard. "Whew... we actually got out of that with all the food too!"
You check your pack and see that your trusty blue backpack has kept your stuff safe yet again!

The rest of the day goes without much occasion. You train. Go for a water break. Towards the end of the final session of the day, the Weapons Master makes an announcement:

"Wrytin, you're not half-bad with a blade. Why don't you see if you want to enter the Tournament that's taking place soon?" He hands you a leaflet printed with the script of the country. You can only recognize half the characters. "There's a hefty reward in the end," he grins.

You...
1 | Remain silent, not making any commitments.
2 | Thank him and say you'll think about it.
3 | "I'll definitely take part in such a great opportunity! Thanks!"

2. I need more info first, and I'm betting that this choice will allow us to become more informed before committing to a decision.

It's a tournament. You enter. You fight opponents. And if you win, you get a prize.

I mean if you put it that way, how could we not enter!?!!?

Although I still prefer to refrain from committing just yet, don't know what other opportunities may present themselves.

if you get beaten it'll take a few days to heal. so it risks time. [/spoiler]

You choose to thank him and tell him that you'll consider it. After all, you wouldn't want to make such a hasty decision. With the quest in mind, you and Lyra walk away from the training arena and towards the farmstead.

It's getting dark and the stars are out.

"It's pretty," Lyra begins, gazing at the stars. There is a moment of silence as you both enjoy the stars for a moment. "So I was going to say that one time... that my mother is really sick." Her tone is despondent. "I don't think that she'll get better. But I hoped, that maybe, maybe you'd help us."

She looks at you with a sad and desperate look in her eyes. "I heard that there's a rare herb you can only find in the forest nearby. But there are Shadowbeasts there, so I am afraid to go alone. Then... seeing you defeat the gang leader, I thought that you'd be able to help me find it and bring it to the local doctor."

What do you say to her urgent plea?

1 | Of course I'd be willing to help you! We're friends after all.
2 | Apologize and say that you'll think about it. After all, you remind yourself that she is paid by some stranger to watch over you for whatever reason. A good night's sleep will help you think straight.
3 | Ask her further details (fill in).

I'm all for helping a friend in need, but I really need to get more information on the herb first. "How do you know it will help? How does it work? What does it look like? Maybe we should go talk to the doctor about it first." Or something along those lines. It is also worth knowing if something better could be purchased with coin (otherwise why would Lyra accept money to help us when her mother is so sick), and if there is, maybe attempting to win the tournament would be a better solution. (I'm assuming we will have to choose between a journey into the forest and participating in the tournament, but maybe this could be a way to get the best of both worlds.)

As much as I want to agree right away, we need to know more. It’s not about accepting or not, it’s about to know more to elaborate a strategy. 3.

You ask her to explain further.

"It's a real bad illness, the doctor said. He said that normal medicine can't cure it. If he had the herb, he'd be able to mix a healer's potion from it. But the problem is that there is a gang of robbers handing around the outskirts of town, so everybody's scared of going out now. I don't think there'll be too many near the forest but you never know. And I've tried begging a few other knights, but they just brush me off and say that there'll not only be gang members but Shadowbeasts as well. So every single one has turned me down," she explains. It's a heart-wrenching tale. But... do you believe it?

1 | 'Yes, absolutely! Lyra wouldn't lie to me and the story makes a lot of sense. I trust her.'
2 | 'Hm... maybe. I think I'll help her even if not everything accurate. It could lead to something important...'
3 | 'Not at all and I tell her so.'

I change my vote. Option 4: Bribe Mr. Deadpool for information :hornswhistle:
Haha! I think you'll find Deadpool loyal to me, my friend. And you have nothing to bribe him with.
