Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;

______________
As a people, witches have two abilities that separate them from normal humans: 1. They have the ability to learn and practice various types of magic. 2. They are born with one or two abilities, allowing them to do things no normal human can. Because of this, witches have been feared and prosecuted throughout almost all of histoy. During the Salem witch trials, the real witches were smart enough not to get caught. They continued to move further and further South, eventually making their way to New Orleans. The wiccan witches there met with the priestesses of voodoo, and some of their practices began to overlap. As more people began to become suspicious of the practitioners, some of the witches (mostly wiccan descendants from Salem) split off to form a coven based on repressing powers.
______________
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,

______________
A council was created, laws put in place, and an academy created to help young witches control their powers. As time went on, some witches created separate academies that focus on honing these powers, creating a society of their own that mostly lives in secret.
______________
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;

______________

However, another group became dissatisfied with the council's ruling, abandoning the laws all together and moving to the bayou, creating a coven of their own in the dark swamps. The witches that didn't join the original societies, mostly practitioners of voodoo, continued to live among society and use their magic.

______________
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

______________
As the generations go by, things stay the same. Witches are born into covens, or their powers are discovered by a coven, and the witch is recruited. As tensions between these covens rise and fall, the balance of power in this supernatural world continues to shift. One determining factor is the Supreme: a witch who possesses multiple talents and, with proper training, can manifest a near-infinite number. With the rising generation, it's uncertain where this supreme will appear, and how her presence will change the covens.
____________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to our roleplay! For anyone confused: this is a modern-fantasy roleplay about witches and witch covens, inspired mainly by the third season of American Horror Story (i't's totally fine if you haven't seen it!). In this roleplay, you can create a character from any coven, as a part of any generation. Please feel free to also create a character who's not a witch! Just as a note: this roleplay will be dark. It will likely have mature themes (such as swearing, violence, themes of dark magic, etc.)

[/div][/div] [div class="Name"] Robin Knight [/div]

Nickname: None, yet.
Age: 10yrs old
Gender: Male
Orientation: Bisexual (Not that I think it'll matter much)
Height: 4ft 4inches / 1.32 meters
Weight: 62 lbs / 28kg
Features: Robin is a little short for his age, has a head of styled short-blond hair, and a pair of bright wide hazel eyes. He's fair skinned without freckles or obvious blemishes outside a small coffee-colored birthmark on the back of his right shoulder.
[div class="Line"][/div] Talent: Pyrokinesis - (A potent talent that has no doubt caused problems in the past)
Magics: Some very basic spellcraft. Robin's still very new to a lot of this but he'll proberbly pick up the basics of different kinds of magic as time goes on.
Coven: The Council (Recently adopted into it)
Role: Secondary Student
Likes: Inline skating, Bonfires, Watching scary movies (almost always above his age rating), Paper airplanes, Breaking the rules, and Sneaking out.
Dislikes: Long walks, Rain, Homework, Being told what to do, Liars, and Being short. (especially when a younger kid is taller than him)
Vices: Craves attention, Hot-headed, Dislikes authority, Stubborn
Virtues: Honest (sometimes to a fault), Couragous, Loyal, Tenacious
Fears: Darkness, and Small spaces (Claustrophobia)
Familiar: This ring covered in nordic runes which Robin currently wears on a cord around his neck.
[div class="Line"][/div] Personality: Robin is remarkably independant and resilient for his age, having never had a lot of stability he's gotten used to doing a lot of things by himself - This in part has also led to him being a free and rebellious young spririt, wanting to do what he wants and not what he's told. He is a good kid at heart, not the kind to go around smashing or torching stuff for the fun of it, and he'd be the first one ot admit it if he did. Robin simply dislikes and distrusts anybody who tries to act like they have authority over him. He's almost always full of energy, a kid who bores easily and can't sit/stand around for too long without doing anything. To the frequent frustration of his carers (and sometimes teachers) in almost every cirumstance he prefers to skate around instead of walk or run, frequently not taking them off after coming inside. (Though he's really good on 'em at this point, even with stairs and the like) Robin through all of this however is an attention seeker, breaking the rules, his skating around and getting told off, its all atttention - Frequently moving around from place to place without stability, being a bit of a rebellious class clown, it was a quick way to make friends, or atleast get people to notice him.
[div class="Line"][/div] History: On one foggy day around six years ago a small boy was found locked in the trunk of a stolen crashed car along the side of a highway, no driver or other other passanger to be found other than this child who was clutching an old ring. The police issues out requests and search warrents to try and identify the child or find his parents - but to no avail and the boy who must have been in the wreckage couldn't remember a thing when he awoke in the hospital days later. Eventually this case goes cold and the child is simply put up for adoption under the name Robin Knight, the surname taken from the officer who found the wrecked car.
Over the next six years Robin lived in and out of foster care, accruding a lot of different addresses in that time - Few wanted to keep the boy for long, though that wasn't entirely his fault. For Robin unbenounced to both his fosterers and himself was a Warlock, a fact that quickly caused issues as he accidentally set fire to a many things by accident early on as he was discovering this power. Robin knew something was different but he didn't know it was witchcraft, and any attempts to explain it didn't work - The boy's carers simply labled the boy obsessed with burning stuff assuming it was done with some matches or a lighter he manged to get, and with this on his rap sheet it quickly began the cycle of him being kicked from one carer to the next with few wanting to risk keeping the pyrokid around. Even after Robin had gained solid control of his talent he was still distrusted for it, afterall who would want to adopt the one kid who was supposidly pyromaniac.
This would likely still be continuing if it wasn't for his latest visit from a social worker, a potential adopter came to visit him but this wasn't any ordinary individual - For you see somebody had begun to put the dots togeather and took suspect that Robin wasn't simply bad kid, this person was a Council Witch. Confirming their suspisions, they revealed to Robin the truth of his powers, that he was a warlock and offered to have him taken out of foster care and enrolled at one of the Council's Boarding schools. Robin wanting to learn more about these powers of his, and actually being given a choice of where he'd live for once instead of it just being dictated agreed quickly - And so began a rapid change in Robin's life into a place where he and those around him would understand his gifts.
