Dragon Slayer Arcos
End All Life; Embrace Silence
10,000 years ago, the Earth was rife with pollution and disease. With the world failing, mankind unleashed several wars for declining resources. However no one thought that a virus would be the true end of humanity. A rapidly mutating thing, this virus thwarted every attempt to neutralize it. Within months, humanity's numbers had been wiped out. Fifteen percent of the human race survived the virus, but they were not unaffected, the virus had mutated their very DNA. Skip forward a thousand years and new races were spreading across the world, reclaiming the ruins left behind by humanity as the world truly began to heal.
Kingdoms rose and fell for centuries, wars and peace reigning the land in a continuous cycle. Then millennia ago, an object fell from the sky. This event would change the world in ways beyond our wildest dreams. Soon thereafter, certain people in all races began to develop amazing abilities. It was the beginning of a new era. Fast forward a couple centuries and those blessed with powers have become prominent in the lands. Trained to use their powers for the betterment of the world, these people are known as Mages.
Then several centuries ago, a Mage was conducting experiments with magic. He couldn't know what he would unleash upon the world. Whatever he did, he infected the Mana, or the magical energy that infuses everything in the world and makes magic possible. The Corrupted Mana created terrible natural disasters such as savage lightning storms, earthquakes, etc. If that wasn't bad enough, when enough Corrupt Mana gathers in one place, Demons are born. Demons are creatures of pure magic and incredibly dangerous. Mages were the only ones able to fight the Demons, and a war broke out.
The results are our current world 800 years later. Civilization exists in Barrier cities, protected from Demons but cutoff from everything else. Demons roam the lands, and make venturing outside of the Barrier Cities very dangerous. Mages are necessary for such a venture, and are always in high demand, especially the strong ones. We are still trying to figure out how to purify the Infinity Core, the source of all Mana and the object that fell to earth so long ago. If that could be done, maybe there might be a chance to stop the demons....
