So, uh yeah. This is still just in the idea phase, but I wanted to put this out there to see if it was worth expanding.

The premise of this role play will focus around a kingdom that has yet to be named. The King has died, poisoned one night in his sleep. No one knows who did it, and no one's about to step forth. Naturally, the throne would then pass to the former King's first son. However, the King's second son accused the first son of poisoning their father to take over the throne, claiming one of the maids saw him leaving the King's bedchambers the night he was poisoned. With two claims to the throne and half an army at their disposal, the two sons go to war against each other. Meanwhile, a third group, led by a local duke, is making plans to join the fray, aiming to kick both sons out of power and establish his own monarchy over the Kingdom.

Players will have the choice of being in one of the above three groups, or a fourth group that doesn't side with any of the three. Players will take key roles in the war between the three groups, and character choices will ultimately decide who gets the throne when the role play draws to a close.

Obviously, this idea needs some expanding, but it is currently 2:45am and I am making typos every five words, so I'm just going to drop this here and see who it brings in when I wake up.

Yay, thanks for the interest!

What we're going to need development-wise is someone to come up with the setting, ultimately deciding how much fantasy to incorporate. Will there be magic? Dragons? Elves and dwarfs and the such? Secondly, we're going to need some people to fill key roles. Specifically, the first son, second son, and the duke. I'd like to take one of these roles, and whomever decides to take one of the other two will help me co-GM the role play.

Aha! I think it might be too much work if we make this high fantasy, but we won't really incorporate a lot of the lore into the game. Although, if the characters will be mingling a lot with elves, dwarves and the like, then it'd be lovely to have some set lore for each one. So I guess, it really depends on whether you want to utilise magic or not.

I don't mind taking any of the key roles. Although, admittedly, the character I've began planning was more of an advisor to one of them x-x

Hm, yes, that's a good point. We don't really want this to be lore-heavy, for fear of clogging up the plot. So perhaps we could have magic, but not high fantasy races? Mythical creatures could possibly exist, but they'd be extremely rare?

There's no character limit yet, so theoretically you could do both.

Up to what extent would there be magic? Who can wield it? Is it seen as useful or demonic? I, for one, would be okay with having the magical creatures rare.

Theoretically, hm... I'll think further on it. I do have to go to bed now, though so

I think I'd be capable of taking the role of one of the sons.  Additionally, I think it'd also be fun to see the dangerous black magic taboo type stuff, as that is usually opted out of for the looser "just go do whatever you want anytime"  type of magic.  I'd be happy any way we did it, though, even if we decided to have no magic at all.  And rare mythical creatures is also something fun to incorporate.

Oh oh! Count me in pleaaase. I don't know how fit I'd be for any of the key roles because I'm a terrible idea-maker, but I'd so be willing to take part in this or help in what way I can.

Interested. As for magic and mythical creatures it would be easy to just copy the magic system some other media. A lot of them have magic that can't used will-nilly but also isn't so sparse it might as well not even exist. Same with the creatures.

I'm interested in joining, but I don't think I'd be any good in such central roles. I have more of a skulking spymaster or some sort of commander/soldier in mind.

Alright, it seems we have a whole lot of interested people now, and I'm sure we'll accumulate some more soon.  Do you think we should go ahead and try to set this up quicker by maybe posting some polls and whatnot to get this figured out?

i did hahah oops but im back now and we can get started if everyone's still interested!

I'm interested in joining, and I'm always interested in a chance to contribute ideas.

A suggestion for a cool way to treat magic would be something like an art, instead of something with set rules that you could learn academically (there's a problem in some settings that magic just turns into another science).  Instead it would be like a performance skill that would work by tricking the target into believing the magic was working. For example you couldn't use magic to set a bush on fire but if you could convince someone they felt like they were burning it would set them on fire.

I like the idea of mages as artists and performers as opposed to intellectuals, the metaphor stretches to different art forms as well,  vocal performances for regular spells, decoration/ make up for longer lasting enchantments, puppetry for summoning.

It could be that other creatures have more traditional magic. Another related concept was that dragons wouldn't be animals, instead a dragon would be something someone turned into if they because devoted/ obsessed enough with a single goal or ideal.

How's that sound?
