Fairy Tail: A Guild for New Ages
Fiore was once known across kingdoms and countries for its bountiful magic and for the energy of the mages - the heroes - who worked amongst their guilds to keep the country safe and to fight off the worst of all the evils the world had to offer. Names are still sung in epic ballads. Names like Erza Scarlet, Natsu Dragneel, Gray Fullbuster… many more go right along with them and the world remembers them with honor and delight. That’s all, though. The world remembers them, but does not seek their return or the rise of more like them.

Although some don’t fully recall, many are all too well aware of the disruptions to normal life that their presence caused. Homes were destroyed without second thought in epic battles that some felt didn’t really need to be fought. Lives were lost without anyone caring. When guilds decided they didn’t like each other, their home towns became ground zero to the wars that followed. Eventually, the non-magical population - joined by a fair few mages who completely saw and agreed with their point - decided that enough was enough. Laws were passed that outlawed mages gathering in large masses. Guilds were disbanded. Mages could still complete jobs, but they had to work on their own instead of through guilds. All of this had another effect of making it very difficult for individuals born with magic potential to learn to control it. Science had answers for this, though. Magic suppression drugs were created to prevent those without training from causing major accidents. It all worked out, really.

Any major problem that arose needing magic to resolve it could lean on the few powerful mages who decided to work on their own. Those who were never very strong in the first place could just blend in with the rest of humanity. Those who had potential but no teacher could receive the drugs that would suppress their abilities and go about their lives as though it had never happened to them in the first place. Military power ramped up in the absence of magic and the country managed much as it always had, albeit without the destruction of the age of heroes. People were very happy about that part specifically.

The world has proceeded this way for two hundred years.

Things have to change now, though, and they have to change fast. A portal has opened up in the mountains just beyond Fiore’s capitol, and bad things keep coming out of it. They’re progressively getting worse, too. The few free agent mages that were willing tried to tackle it on their own, but just got sucked into the void and no one knows what their fate was in the end. There’s nothing the military can do aside from tackle each thing that comes out individually, and they’re losing bodies fast. What else can the world do to manage such a conundrum? No one knows who caused it. No one knows why it’s happening now. All they know is that they have no one to look to.

Enter Horace Goodkin. He’s not a man of any magic potential in the slightest, but he is a man of a political mind. He’s made a proposition. Let’s reintroduce a singular magical guild with the purpose of working alongside the Fioran Government to address the issue. He’s gotten emergency authorization, too. The problem is, are mages willing to come back out into the open after so long in the shadows? Will they be capable of restraining themselves when they gather together again? Will the spirit of magic finally show that mages together are the true power of Fiore?

I’m creating a Fairy Tail themed roleplay and that’s the gist of it. It takes place two hundred years after canon. Those two hundred years have been years of far more modern and less magic centered existence. There’s a drug in circulation that suppresses magic. In the midst of it all, a new guild is being formed and a call went out seeking mages to join. Characters will be individuals who accept this invitation. The roleplay will be semi-detailed meaning that posts must all be at least one paragraph in length. It will hopefully move at a steady pace and expect each member to post at least weekly. It has a lot of room to grow into a much larger story, but it’s a plot that will also function with a smaller group of people.

My name is Comet and I’ve run roleplays like this before, but it’s been a while since I’ve had one actually be successful. I figure it’s time to try again.
