A Fallen Star [1x1] (LynxAmelia x Vizzy) [Inactive]

Even that slight touch of his hand over hers was enough to cause a sense of security to wash over her, leaving her feeling rather warm. Right ahead of them was a small ice cream shop. "Let's just get you that shake and go home," she said, walking towards it a little slowly. Somehow, this bump with her brother left her drained, not just of energy but happiness as well. Coming to think of it, she couldn't even remember the last time she was happy. All her happy memories seemed to have been erased at about the same time her parents grew a pair of wings and flew away where Walter had come from. Somehow she had this crazy idea that maybe they'd sent him. Looking down at her feet while walking, her small voice asked, "Have you seen my parents, Walter? Up there I mean... Have you talked to them?" she asked, an almost tiny hope peeking into her voice.

Walter inwardly trembled at her question, to answer was to shatter her reality and not responding would leave her forever guessing. The thing was, he hadn't seen much of anyone up there, mostly drifting around in an eternal recap of his very short life. However, he couldn't tell her about the fear of going back to where he once came. They made you a numb being, and he wasn't fond of it. "I was thrown by Gabriel, and I think I'd remember seeing them. I was...Battling my own inner demons, so I didn't pay much mind to anyone." Walter replied, taking caution to not be too blunt with his answer. He gripped Hayley's shoulder just a bit tighter, as if reinforcing his place at her side "I may not be the most observant person, but they have to be up there if they raised you.". Walter pushed the door open and reluctantly released her to hold the door "I'm sure they are up there, doing whatever I wasn't doing." .

"Oh.." Hayley said, stopping just short of the door. Then she looked up at him, her big blue eyes seemingly glinting in the sunlight, "You didn't see them there or they weren't there at all?" she asked, waiting for his response to the innocent question. Then she shook her head a little and walked into the shop, muttering, "Nevermind." Letting out a soft sigh, she looked up at him once more, "Which flavor would you like?" she pointed to a list put up on a board in the shop with every kind of wild and exotic as well as common flavors of shakes. "Maybe you'll find a new favorite flavor. Let me know when you've chosen one," she said, leaning against a nearby wall, her eyes slightly glazed over.

Walter wasn't hungry anymore, it felt like he'd been socked in the gut. He'd basically just brushed Hayley off, giving her some half-rate answer because he didn't want to remember his time being 'numb'. Even so, Walter looked at the board while his mind drifted off to find a way to sate Hayley's doubt. Sifting through over four decades of memories which you purposely repressed isn't the easiest thing to do; much less whilst on an empty stomach. One...Two...Three seconds felt like an eternity as he was once more 'forced' to remember every aspect of his life; both dead and alive. "They entered at different times. That's why I couldn't really remember them as a couple." Walter stated as he rubbed the bridge of his nose "Time wasn't worth much, but I was merely a corpse floating by the time they got there.". He cleared his throat and kept glancing over the board "Can't really say I saw much else of them, tons of faces, infinite space, and a bittersweet oblivion." Walter slipped his hand back into his front pocket and glanced over his shoulder. "That answer your question." Maybe it came out harsher than he had wanted, or maybe it was exactly as it was supposed to be; either way, he'd been through hell for the second time that day.

Hayley hadn't exactly been paying keen attention to him, but she gathered the gist of it. But his last words hit her like a ton of bricks. It wasn't what he'd said, but the way he said it. Instinctively, she backed up against the wall and turned her head to one side in a wince, her hands lifted in front of her in little fists as though it would offer some sort of protection against the verbal blows that she was anticipating. "I'm sorry," she said, her eyes downcast, tiny teardrops falling onto the hardwood floor, "It was none of my business, I shouldn't have asked. I'm sorry," she half whispered, whimpering ever so slightly before sobbing a little. Indeed, she believed she had done something wrong if he used a tone so stern, so hurtful.

Walter didn't necessarily feel bad, of course he felt something about making her cry. Surprisingly, it wasn't guilt. He thought it terrible to not feel guilty for making her cry, but the rage that boiled in his stomach pushed that emotion out with ease. She wasn't the only fragile person in the room, he didn't like to show it but he was at a constant breaking point. Walter loosed an exasperated sigh and turned around, his feet easily carrying him to post up in front of her. His larger frame acting as some sort of barrier and inevitably pinning her to that wall, and anything short of giving him a good shove would have made him immobile. "I'm not sorry." Walter croaked as either hand went to rest against the wall at either side of her head "Nor should you be.". He took a deep breath and tilted his head back "If anything, a girl from back home would have slapped me by now for being a 'brute'." his thin pale rose lips curled as his fingers gripped Hayley's chin and brought it up from the ground. "I don't like talking about it. Same reason why most people dislike talking about or accepting the death of loved ones. It hurts and makes me feel less than sane.".

Hayley remained silent. She knew better than to provoke a man twice her size who was furious already. Perhaps it was her experience dealing with her brother. But that didn't even come close to how she felt with Walter. With Charlie, she would end up spitting fire at him and getting beaten up for it. But with Walter, she was remorseful that she'd upset him so. She didn't know better, she had never been dead, she'd never seen heaven and she did not know how it felt to live again. She'd always thought heaven was a much nicer place to be than earth, that people who go there would be happier. She wanted to apologize but he had already asked her not to. So she remained mum, the last of her tears drying up on her cheeks as she peered up at him.

This little exchange between them wasn't heard by the rest of the world. All that the passers - by saw was a large man pinning a young girl against the wall and gripping her chin roughly while she was crying and unable to struggle. Most people steered clear of it, but one of the young guys behind the counter couldn't keep quiet about this. Soon, he was approaching them, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The man was probably as big as Walter was, perhaps a bit more. "What's going on here?" came a gruff voice once he was less than 10 feet from them. Hayley looked at him alarmed, obvious that he'd gotten the wrong idea. "Nothing at all," she squeaked, her bright blue eyes widened with fear as she looked between Walter and the man, "We're just talking."

"Great...Forgot, we aren't alone." Walter murmured and released Hayley's chin "You looking like a deer in the headlights isn't going to help the situation much either." he chortled softly before taking his hand from the wall and patting her cheek. Walter turned his back to her with his hands up in surrender "Sorry for causing a scene, sensitive subjects and lost tempers. You know how it is. Everything is fine now, I think. ". Walter's voice was eerily calm, and his posture was somewhat tense, but what Hayley couldn't see what the irritated grimace on his face and daring look in his liquid golden eyes. "Won't happen again, I promise. We should be going now anyway, we have this...thing." Walter gestured his hand toward the clock and fumbled with his excuse, but the apology seemed to be directed at Hayley behind him, not the man who couldn't mind his own P's and Q's. Walter lowered his hands, and let one slip back behind himself, urging Hayley to grab onto it by clenching and unclenching it.

Honestly, Walter needed an excuse to hit the guy, but none was given and Hayley really didn't need to see what he could do. Given the fact he'd threatened her brother and in some indirect manner her. He wanted to leave as is, and just find some sort of gym to wail on some heavybag or poor sparring sap. Not a naturally violent person, it was rare for him to get so wound up. Mostly because he didn't think this to be his home, at least not the one he fought to protect. He tossed that train of thought aside and focused on the task at hand, getting out of the parlor without a scratch.

Hayley took a deep breath to try and calm herself. Wiping her nose with the back of her hand, she slipped her other one forward to interlace her fingers with Walter's. Then she stepped up to his side and put the other hand on his arm in an attempt to calm him. She didn't want another fight, not now. She looked at the man who was obviously a staff in that place, "My apologies," she said with a small smile, "We will be going now."

The man was still suspicious though but gave a reluctant nod in Hayley's direction. "You stay safe," he muttered before walking away, turning his head repeatedly to glare at Walter and check if he was going to manhandle the girl again. Hayley, in the meantime, began tugging on Walter's hand in an attempt to pull him out of the shop. Once a short distance away, she chuckled wryly, "So much for getting a shake."
